In the modern rapidly developing theory of intercultural communication, special attention is paid to the study of professional communication and the analysis of language means used therein. Every branch of professional knowledge has its own language for specific purposes. In the sphere of linguodidactics, there is a language whose metalinguistic function presents certain difficulties for communicants. Linguistic terminology is a set of language means that describe, group and classify lexical units of both native and foreign languages. At the same time, linguistic terminology is an important component of a special professional language for specific purposes. At present, much attention is given to the study of professional languages, but the language for specific purposes in the field of philology has not been sufficiently investigated. The purpose of this research was to describe the main features of linguistic terminology and identify problematic issues of its functioning. The paper is relevant due to the general need for studying linguistic terminology as one of the important tools in the work of various specialists (philologists, translators, lexicographers, terminologists, terminographers, and teachers). This research is an interdisciplinary one, since it covers a range of topical problems addressed by lexicology and lexicography, terminology science and terminography, linguodidactics, theory and practice of translation, as well as general and specific theory of language. In this paper, general linguistic methods – definitive, comparative, contrastive, and descriptive – were applied. The language material and the results of its analysis can be used by specialists in such fields as lexicography, theory and practice of translation, native and foreign language teaching, as well as terminology science.

Summary The history of foreign language teaching in the Low Countries has not received a great deal of attention so far. The Low Countries cannot be said to be exceptional in that respect. Very little study has been made of the many primary and secondary sources that have come down to us from the Renaissance. What we do know of the history of Dutch FLT, shows no fundamental differences with what is known about FLT developments elsewhere. That conclusion holds true for the major issues of what aspects of language should be taught in FLT and how these should be taught, and for the particular role played in these matters by linguistics. The Netherlands, however, might turn out to be an extremely interesting country for the study of the history of FLT. It is a country in which there has always been a great deal of FLT and the country is internationally recognized for the quality of its FLT. On the other hand, there is virtually no Dutch contribution to the great developments in the field, especially with regard to reaching methodology.

Abstract The aim of the research is to identify, theoretically substantiate and empirically study the pedagogical conditions for the formation of senior preschoolers’ foreign language competence. The methods consist in authorial diagnostic procedures aimed at studying the interaction participants’ foreign language competence. The research identified the specifics of the interaction between subjects of preschool education. The authors revealed the influence of parents’ participation on the foreign language competence, motivation, attitude, and openness to learn foreign languages as well as preschoolers’ psychological anxiety toward the perception of foreign speech. The authors expanded the ideas on forming preschool children’s foreign language competence in pedagogical theory and practice and on the realization of the opportunities of interaction participants based on the social-pedagogical partnership, which allows improving joint activities between modern preschool organizations and families.

Abstract In recent years, in Nepal, while some languages of the nation are on the verge of extinction, some foreign languages (such as Japanese, Korean, Chinese) are emerging as new attractions among the youths and adults and are widely taught in the marketplaces through the private sector initiative. Against this backdrop, in this article, we have examined the current foreign language teaching and learning situation drawing on qualitative empirical data obtained from the institutes involved in foreign language instruction in a city in Gandaki Province of Nepal. The data were collected from a survey in forty institutes, ten individual interviews and five focus group discussions. Drawing on the data, an ecological model was adopted, which focused on dynamic interaction, co-existence, and competition among languages, and findings were discussed in line with these aspects of ecological understanding. Findings revealed that learning foreign languages has been established as a conduit towards economic gains and opportunities for employment and education, which has largely been contributory towards reshaping the ecological relationship among the foreign languages in Nepal.
