In line with the theories of variability, fluctuation and instability of ethno-cultural identities, this paper deals with some sensitive issues surrounding the creation of new (sub-ethnic and sub-cultural) microidentities within one nation, in this case within the Macedonian nation. The research focuses on the initiative for declaring one part of the Macedonian nation, the Macedonians of Islamic religion, to be a separate ethnic group in 2011. It analyses the regional and historical background from which this initiative originated, mostly as an echo of the multicultural strategies and policies in the European and international context. It shows how the unstable politics destabilized the already fragile and fluctuating identity of this group toward an identity of resistance or even heresy, inspite of having preserved their primary Slavic linguistic and cultural identity. The paper argues that the Macedonians of Islamic religion are a part of the Macedonian social, cultural and religious reality and should therefore be recognized as a specific cultural-religious community within the Macedonian national entity. This issue is seen as very important in the present context, since the Macedonian identity is preasured and relativized itself. The paper underlines that the Macedonian national identity is inclusive, layered, more general and complex than its religious factor. Therefore this researcher proposes inclusive state policies for all Macedonians regardless of religious affiliation, inclusive civilizational strategies with inter-connective spiritual values (inter-religious palimpsests and symbiosis) and inclusive state secular strategies as protection against religious radicalisms, atavisms and conflicts.

Abstract Tasawuf and Sufism have succeeded in donating their contributions to Islam. Follow conquering the nations that have not been touched by Islamic teachings. Its influence is most likely to reach Bangka whose motives could have an impact on the Muslim Community of multicultural Pangkalpinang City, also known as the Malay Muslim community that has a common sense with the Sumatran Muslim community in general (Palembang, Bengkulu, Padang, Riau to Aceh). Malay Islamic societies are more dominant and can coexist with more Chinese societies after Christianity, Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism, attracting them because they can show the phenomenon of peaceful and mutual respectful peoples. Of course, this is important to be explored and can be used as a pilot icon for especially for conflict-laden areas. The initial data compiled by the researchers is that there is a positive indication that behind the harmony and peace of religion, especially for the ummah of Islam, it can be assumed that the general character of Pangkalpinang has its own characteristic, the influence of tarekat teachings, in general, can be expected to follow the attitudes and behavior of Muslim community in Bangka city , as well as the influence of Khalifah Naqsyabandiyah's teachings in particular is synonymous with the teachings of self-awareness and repentance from taking care of the religion and the beliefs of others. Their religious cultures are framed by the spiritual values of Sufism that are strong in their respective religions, as for the followers of Islam and the Islamic religion, they believe the supernatural powers that grow from the pure tasawuf of Islam which is then known as Sufism.

The process of converting individuals to a particular religious community is one of the issues addressed by the Sociology of Religion. In the post-socialist Montenegrin society, there have been research works related to dominant religious communities, the Orthodox, the Roman Catholic, and the Islamic, while science has shown no interest in small religious groups. The Adventist movement in Montenegro, although present for a long period of time, has failed to mobilise individuals for conversion to a greater extent. Therefore, this research aims to find out when, under what conditions and in what way the individuals in Montenegro, as a post-socialist state, chose Adventism as religious affiliation, what affected this process the most, and were there any specificities in that regard. This paper is a result of a survey conducted via an in-depth interview with 17 believers of the Adventist Church. The obtained results indicate several valuable data: most respondents accepted the Adventist movement in Montenegro in the early 1990s; they got first-hand knowledge of this religion from their friends or wider family members and relatives, a consistent interpretation of the Holy Bible is the main reason for conversion. A significant factor in the process of conversion to Adventism is early religious socialisation within a family.

AbstractLiterature on immigrants’ religious activities highlights the importance of transnational ties between the host and home communities. This paper challenges the dominant discourse by looking at a Chinese evangelical church in Chiba, one of the seven prefectures in the Greater Tokyo Area, Japan. This ethnic church is an isolated religious community that grows with limited transnational connections and support. By exploring the structure and membership of this ethnic church, I argue that adopting a transnational approach may downplay the role of religious immigrants in the construction of ethnic religious community. I propose that the growth of this ethnic church with very limited connections with the host country and the homeland can be better understood using the concepts of cultural identity and diaspora. The data in this study originates from my ethnographic fieldwork in Japan, conducted from August 2010 to February 2011.

Women’s well-being is dependent on access to reproductive health care. Around the world, however, many women do not have adequate access to this essential health service. Barriers to accessing reproductive health services are especially problematic for Canadian First Nations youth, especially those living in rural and remote communities. This article explores the unique challenges of and approaches to teen reproductive health and sustainable development internationally. The international context of reproductive health and sustainable development can inform and set the context for a discussion of Canadian First Nations teens’ reproductive health. Of special interest is how the United Nations and the international community approached sensitive issues and generated consensus among many different countries, cultures, religions, and customs.

The sector of the creative economy brings benefits to the economy, more exactly, through the cultural sector, due to the unlimited resources needed to develop – the human resources represented by their mind or talent. The industrial development and innovation lead towards many changes in the cultural industries mostly due to the digitization effect, an irreversible change in the creation of various cultural goods and services, resulting even new cultural domains and also new regulation in the cultural field. The goods and services produced by the new cultural sector “encompass artistic, aesthetic, symbolic and spiritual values (...) their system of valorisation, which includes a characteristic irreproducible, is linked to its appreciation or pleasure” makes them different from other goods and services as Throsby mentioned (UNESCO, 2009:22). This paper aims to show some positive impacts of the creative economy, highlighting social and economic aspects, such as cultural diversity, tolerance, freedom of expression of the cultural identity and by the other hand, new jobs for artists, earnings’ increases, creative clusters, cultural employment etc. We will also show more clearly the activities and the occupations which concern the cultural employment and figures regarding cultural employment in Europe.

<p>Nowadays, during this intercultural era and global challenge, film can be interpreted as a practical strategy to develop meaning and Indonesian cultural identity. Through many singers of audiovisual creation, film has not only served as entertainment, but can also act as an instrument to reflect local values and traditional perspective through the storytelling that has been presented by film director. This role is a significant point to develop local insight and cultural value as the identity of Indonesian film. Although, at some point, this strategy still becomes a problem in Indonesian film fields. <em>Sang Pencerah</em> film that was directed by Hanung Bramantyo is one of Indonesian films that attempted to deliver local identity in its storytelling. This research is an endeavour to identify Indonesian cultural identity that has been represented through <em>Sang Pencerah</em> film. By applying cultural studies and interdisciplinary as their methods, the researchers acquired some interesting findings. Firstly, aesthetic and thematic elements in the film narrative had a significant relation to traditional and cultural values of Javanese society. Secondly, the meaning of cultural identity also had a linear proportion to spiritual values in life, such as determination, peacefulness, gloriness, tolerance, as well as social understanding. Therefore, it can be concluded that the <em>Sang Pencerah</em> film is a manifestation of Hanung Bramantyo regarding to the meaning of Indonesian culture that is based on Javanese society’s local wisdom.</p><p><strong>How to Cite:</strong> Puspitasari, D. The article examines the importance of the religious factor in the life of the poet. The anti-Catholic politics of England is seen as the historical context that influenced Pope’s life and personality. Alexander Pope appears as a man who was able to use his extremely unprofitable religious affiliation in forming a career as a professional writer. The author examines the function of Catholicism, the combination of deism, concepts of natural religion, and Christian ideas in Pope’s enlightenment consciousness.

In the first part of the introductory text, I present a theoretical framework that places the attitude towards the Ottoman heritage in a broader socio-cultural context. I distinguish between the two basic strategies in relation to the Ottoman heritage in the Balkan modern societies, and they are: de-Ottomanization (neglecting of Ottoman influences) and internalization. Furthermore, I point out that both strategies were created under the direct influence of the discursive practice of Orientalism, with which they share rhetoric and internal logic. Furthermore, I show, based on several examples of linguistic and cultural practices, how both strategies have been implemented in Serbia. In the second part, I present the papers in this thematic issue and identify the topics presented in it, namely: interreligious dialogue, negotiation of ethnic and religious affiliation in everyday life, religious conversion, inherited institutions of the Ottoman society and attitude towards them, (re)presentation of historical figures and events in literary narratives, Muslim religious organizations in the past and present. The thematic issue aims to contribute to academic dialogue in domestic and international context, in which strategies, topoi and actors related to the Ottoman heritage, Muslims and Islam are very current.
