The low level of students’ higher order thinking skills (HOTS) has been the main problem of education in Indonesia. This study aimed to determine the difference of students’ HOTS taught by using POE and Guided Discovery learning models. This quasi-experimental research involved 34 students of X IPA 3 and 32 students of X IPA 4 at SSHS 1 of Sungai Ambawang as the sample. The data obtained by using test which was analyzed using Mann-Whitney U-test. The results showed that the students’ HOTS who were treated with POE were significantly higher than those who were taught using Guided Discovery learning. Therefore, it is suggested to implement POE to improve students’ HOTS.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is any difference between students’ mathematical representation ability who were taught by using the learning model of Project Based Learning with students who were taught by Guided Discovery Learning; there is any difference in the students' mathematical representation ability based on high, medium, or low learning motivation categories, and there is an interaction between the learning model and the learning motivation toward mathematical representation ability. A quasi experiment was used with 2x3 factorial designs. Instrument used to collect data was mathematics test and learning motivation questionnaire. The hypothesis testing used two way analysis of variance with unequal cell. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, it can be concluded that there is a difference in the students' mathematics ability that was taught by using Project Based Learning model with students who were taught by sing Guided Discovery Learning model; there is a difference in the students’mathematical representation ability based on high, medium, or low learning motivation; and there is an interaction between the learning model and the learning motivation on the mathematics ability.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is three. First, describe the writing skills of exposition text of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 25 Padang before using discovery learning models assisted by audiovisual media. Second, describe the writing skills of exposition text of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 25 Padang after using discovery learning models assisted by audiovisual media. Third, describe the influence of discovery learning models assisted by audiovisual media on writing exposition text skills of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 25 Padang. The sample in this study was class VIII.2 with 29 students. The results of this study are three, namely as follows. First, exposition text writing skills before using the discovery learning learning model assisted by audiovisual media of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 25 Padang are in almost adequate qualifications with an average value of 53.45. Second, the skill of writing exposition text after using the discovery learning model assisted by audiovisual media of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 25 Padang is in a qualification of more than enough with an average score of 70.11. Third, based on the t-test, the alternative hypothesis (H_1) is received at a significant level of 95% and the degree of freedom (dk) = n-1 because of tcount> t table, which is 4.79> 1.70. This means that there is a significant influence on the use of discovery learning models assisted by audiovisual media on the exposition writing skills of eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 25 Padang. Kata kunci: Pengaruh, Discovery Learning, Keterampilan Menulis Teks Eksposisi

This experimental study aims to compare problem-solving abilities between students that are taught with guided discovery learning models and conventional learning models. This study involved all eighth graders as the research population. Furthermore, the sampling technique used is the simple random sampling technique in two classes in Junior High school SMPN 1 Kota Gorontalo by employing Superitem essay test as a data collection tool. This descriptive analysis is described in the frequency distribution and histogram tables, whereas inferential analysis was performed by using ANCOVA test. The results showed that guided discovery learning model is preferable to compare to the conventional learning model in improving mathematics problem-solving ability.

The teacher as the main implementer of learning to understand and master the application of learning models , make changes and to develop teaching skills . Teachers need to pay attention to the model of learning , because learning model is key to ensuring the learning process in the classroom .

There are three models of learning are applied to the curriculum in 2013 , namely the Discovery Learning model of learning , problem-based learning model and project -based learning model . The learning model discovery learning stimulation / arousal , statement / problem identification , data collection , data processing , verification / evidence and draw conclusions / generalizations .
By applying the method of Discovery Learning , students actively seek and cultivate their own information content of higher mental processes or more banyak.siswa will be active in the learning process because one of the friends group is more aware of the material can explain the material to friends who are not informed about .

This research is Classroom Action Research Discovery Learning models by applying the inquiry method . The subjects in this study were students of class XI MA Al - Mujaddadiyyah Madison school year 2013/2014 . The data was collected using the observation sheet to assess learning ability and questionnaire to the data sheet student interest . Analysis of data for learning and student interest using descriptive qualitative analysis , quantitative data by calculating the percentage of first cycle and second cycle .
The results showed that the use of methods can improve the ability of Discovery Learning Study abroad and student interest . Improved learning ability of students can be seen from the increasing number of students who are active in the second cycle , Increasing student achievement can be seen from the increasing student mastery learning and getting better value from each of the aspects which include : discussion of the results of expression , receiving the opinion of the right reasons , concerned about the group , tasks and helping friends .

In the effort of improving the learning process, teachers must try to apply learning models that are appropriate to the character of the subjects so that the students are more active and learning becomes more meaningful. Based on data taken from the results of the daily tests of class VII J, as many as 67.65% of the students scored below the passing grade, and the average daily tests were 67.73. Factors causing the low learning outcomes are learning models that are still teacher-centered, so students are less active. Therefore we need an effort to improve the students’ activities and learning outcomes. This study aims to improve the students’ activities and learning outcomes in the Organizational System of Life through Guided Discovery Learning Model. The subjects of this study were the students of class VII J of SMPN 2 Demak, totaling 34 people, consisting of 10 men and 24 women. This research is a Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles. The research is said to be successful if the average daily test minimum reaches passing grade (80), classical completeness is at least 80%, and the percentage of student activity is at least 75%. The data collection techniques are using student test results, observation sheets of teacher and student activities. The results showed an average grade of 82.0 in the first cycle and 90.9 in the second cycle. Completeness of classical learning outcomes reached 82.34% in the first cycle and 94.12% in the second cycle.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to describe things as follow. First, describes the writing skills of the exposition text of grade VIII Junior High School 31 Padang before using the discovery learning model. Secondly, describes the writing skills of the exposition text of grade VIII Junior High School 31 Padang after using the discovery learning model. Third, analyze the effect of discovery learning models on the exposition writing skills of grade VIII studensts of Junior High School 31 Padang. The type of this research is quantitative research using experimental methods Based on the results of the study, can be concluded three things as follows. First, the writing skills of the exposition text of grade VIII students of Junior High School 31 Padang before using discovery learning model are in fair qualifications (61,59). Secondly, the writing skills of exposition text of grade VIII students of Junior High School 31 Padang after using discovery learning model are in good qualifications (78,26). Third, there is a significant influence in the use of discovery learning models on the exposition writing skills of grade VIII students of Junior High School 31 Padang, so it can be concluded that H1 is accepted in H0 is rejected because the test results prove that tcount is greater than ttable (2,04>1,70). Kata Kunci: Pengaruh, Model Discovery Learning, Menulis Teks Eksposisi
