Background: Binjai (Mangifera caesia) is a herb derived from South Kalimantan possessing antioxidant properties which promote wound healing inhibiting oxidation radicals. The natural antioxidants present in binjai leaves can be extracted by fractionation. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the antioxidant activity of ethyl acetate fraction in 96% ethanol extract of binjai leaf. Methods: The study constituted a pure experimental study incorporating a post-test design with only random sampling technique consisting of two groups, namely; an ethyl acetate fraction as the treatment group and ascorbic acid as the positive control group. The leaves were treated in accordance with the soxhlet method and subsequently fractionated to extract ethyl acetate fraction. This was used to measure antioxidant activity with DPPH radical damping method using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. A linear regression calculation was performed with a standard curve to quantify the IC50 value, before the ethyl acetate fraction underwent a qualitative test of secondary metabolite. Results: An independent t-test indicated significant differences between groups, an average value of IC50 in ascorbic acid of 13.812 ppm with 0.996 linearity and a fraction of ethyl acetate 38.526 ppm with a linearity of 0.999. In contrast, at this linearity value ascorbic acid and ethyl fraction acetate demonstrate a very high linear connection between concentration and inhibition. A secondary metabolite test conducted on the ethyl acetate fraction produced positive results for flavonoid, tannins, and phenol. Conclusion: Based on the IC50 parameters, the fraction of ethyl acetate in 96% ethanol extract of binjai leaf produces very strong antioxidant activity in the content of the compounds in the fraction, namely: flavonoid, tannins and phenol.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate antioxidant activity and phytochemical screening of ethanol extract, fractions of water, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane from mistletoe tea (Scurrula atropurpurea Bl. Dans).Methods: Simplicia extracted using soxhlet equipment with 96% ethanol. Fractionation was conducted using liquid-liquid extraction using a solvent of water, ethyl acetate and n-hexane. Screening of phytochemical and antioxidant activity was performed against these fractions. Antioxidant activity was determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl method using ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry with ascorbic acid as standard. Phytochemical screening was conducted based on the method of Farnsworth.Results: The IC50 values of ethanol extract, water fraction, fraction of ethyl acetate, and n-hexane fraction were 21.92 ppm, 89.57 ppm, 14.08 ppm, and 162.09 ppm, respectively, whereas for ascorbic acid was 4.41 ppm. The ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction contained compounds were the same group, polyphenolic, tannins, flavonoids, monoterpenoid, steroids, triterpenoids, and quinones. Fraction of water contained compounds such as polyphenolic group, flavonoids, monoterpenoids, sesquiterpenoids, steroids, and triterpenoids. n-hexane fraction compounds contained steroids and triterpenoids.Conclusion: The ethanol extract, water fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and n-hexane fraction showed antioxidant activities. The ethanol extract, fractions of water, and ethyl acetate fraction contained flavonoids and polyphenolic potential as antioxidants.Keywords: Mistletoe tea, Scurrula atropurpurea, Antioxidant, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, Ascorbic acid.

This study aims to find the treatment of diabetes using natural materials by exploring plants in the province of East Nusa Tenggara. his research was conducted out by extracting the Strychnos nitida G.Don stem using a method of maceration by ethanol 70%. Ethanol extract was then fractionated using n-hexane and ethyl acetate. Simplicia from maceration and fractionation results were then tested for antioxidant activity, α-glucosidase inhibition activity and identification of active compounds. The results showed that ethyl acetate fraction had the lowest IC50 value of 86.83 μg / ml. Results of the α-glucosidase activity test showed that ethyl acetate fraction and n-heksan fraction at 900 ppm had the highest percentage of inhibition of 34.23% and 33.89%. Identification using LCMS/MS method showed that ethyl acetate fraction consist of Benzenemethamine, N, N-dioctyl- as an antioxidantcompound and compound 24-methyl-5-cholestone-hexol as an antidiabetic compound. From the results of this study, we concluded that the extract of kayu ular Strychnos nitida G.Don stem has inhibition activity toward α-glucosidase enzyme.

ABSTRACT Background: Recent studies showed that Interleukin-8 (IL-8), activated cytokine immune response which plays an important role in the development of acute and chronic gastritis. Harmless anti-inflammatory therapeutic alternatives have been proposed, for example, the consumption of Sechium Edule Jacq. Swartz (chayote). Antioxidant (flavonoid) and cell regeneration (alkaloid) agents were found in chayote. This study aimed to determine the effect of chayote Sechium Edule Jacq. Swartz extracts on the level of IL-8 in Wistar rats with aspirin- induced gastritis. Subjects and Method: This was a randomized controlled trial (RCT) conducted at the laboratory of Mathematics and Natural Science, Universitas Sumatra Utara from January to February 2020. A total of 35 male Wistar rats was selected for this study and randomly allocated into 7 groups: (1) Negative control; (2) Positive control; (3) 100 mg/ kg BW chayote ethanol extract ; (4) 200 mg/kg BW chayote ethanol extract; (5) 100 mg/ kg BW chayote ethyl acetate fraction; (6) 200 mg/kg BW chayote ethyl acetate fraction; and (7) 20 mg omeprazole. The rats in positive control and treatment groups were induced with aspirin (200mg/ kg BW). The negative control group received no intervention. The dependent variable was level of IL-8 measured by ELISA. The independent variables were treatment status. The data were analyzed by One Way Anova and post hoc test. Results: The mean differences of IL-8 level were not statistically significant between study groups (p= 0.327). Mean of IL-8 level was higher in positive control group (Mean= 160.80; SD= 6.90) than in negative control group (Mean= 141.20; SD= 10.98). The lowest IL-8 level was in 100mg/ kg BW chayote ethanol extract group (Mean= 149.94; SD= 40.4), followed by 200mg/ kg BW (Mean= 152.4; SD= 30.73) and 100mg/ kg BW (Mean= 164.60; SD= 25.04) chayote ethyl acetate fraction groups, 20 mg omeprazole group (Mean= 170.60; SD= 21.58), and 200 mg/ kg BW chayote ethanol extract group (Mean= 176.80; SD= 10.98). Conclusion: The low dose (100mg/ kg BW) chayote ethanol extract has the most potential antiinflammation effect on in vitro gastritis with the lowest IL-8 level of all doses of chayote ethanol extract, chayote ethyl acetate fraction, and omeprazole. The antioxidant activity of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin was established by a test reaction of interaction with free-radical 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). A cyclic voltammetry method was used to research the interaction of porphyrin and DPPH. According to the results of the completed research, it was established that H2T(4-OHPh) P has the highest antioxidant activity among all the porphyrins compounds studied by us. The results of the electrochemical experiment served as a basis for testing antioxidant qualities of porphyrin on living creatures – chickens of the “Moscow-black” breed. Chickens were divided into 5 groups: the control group was given the basic ration, the first — the basic ration + 1% ascorbic acid solution, the second — the basic ration + an aqueous solution of Twin-80, the third — the basic ration + an aqueous solution of Twin-80 with porphyrin (10–3 mol/l), the fourth - basic ration + aqueous solution of Twin-80 with porphyrin (10-4 mol/l). In the course of the experiment, the chickens were orally administered the 2 ml solutions studied once a day in for 14 days. Wherein no disturbance of physiological condition of the chickens was noticed, as well as any considerable change of body mass or causes of death. The introduction solution Twin-80 does not impair the blood indexes. In all four experimental groups, a decrease in the concentration of malonic dialdehyde (MDA) was observed compared to the control group: the best result - a decrease in MDA by 56% is observed in the fourth group. In the three groups an increase in serum level of ceruloplasmin was observed. The greatest increase in the concentration of CP also occurs in the fourth group of chickens. With the introduction of ascorbic acid a decrease in CP relative to the control group is not observed. How it was established the 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin with concentrations of 10-4 mole/l decline the amount of malonic dialdehyde and increases the amount of ceruloplasmin in blood, which leads to lowering the activity of oxidizing processes in a living organism and also empowers the protein synthesizing function of the liver.

 Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the antioxidant activity of Tarenna polycarpa (Miq.) koord. Ex Valenton. Leaf extract and fractions.Methods: Antioxidant activity was examined by DPPH method.Results: Ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, and ethyl acetate fraction with DPPH assay measured as half maximal inhibitory concentration were 55.21, 109.73, and 42.04 μg/mL, respectively.Conclusions: The results reveal that T. polycarpa extract and fractions have strong antioxidant potential. Our further study is to isolate compounds responsible for antioxidant components.

The effects of aqueous and ethanol extracts and leaf fractions of <em>Psychotria viridis</em> Ruiz &amp; Pavon (chacrona) at different concentrations on the germination and initial growth of <em>Lactuca sativa</em> L. were tested, and the phenolic and flavonoid compounds of these extracts and fractions were assessed. The bioassays consisted of the following treatments: crude aqueous extract (CAE) at 25, 50, 75 and 100% concentration, crude ethanol extract (CEE) and ethyl acetate, dichloromethane and methanol fractions at 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50 and 100% concentration and a control group. All treatments consisted of five replicates. The CAE, CEE and the ethyl acetate fraction of <em>P. viridis</em> caused both positive and negative effects on the seeds and seedlings of <em>L. sativa</em>.<em> </em>By contrast, the dichloromethane and methanol fractions only caused negative effects on <em>L. sativa</em>. The following compounds were identified in the extracts and fractions: gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, ellagic acid, catechin, orientin, vitexin, quercetin, apigenin, rutin and luteolin, and the presence of the alkaloid N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) has also been reported in the literature. <em>P. viridis</em> had allelopathic effects in all types of plant extracts and fractions tested, and one of these compounds or their combined action may account for these effects.

The extracts and fractions from the flowers of A. podalyriifolia were analyzed previously for antibacterial activity using diffusion in disk, Antioxidant properties were evaluated by determining radical scavenging power (DPPH test) and total phenol content was measured (Folin method). The present study describes the in vitro antibacterial (determining minimum inhibitory concentration) and antioxidant activities (by thiobarbituric acid reactive species - TBARS method) for the ethanol extract, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate fractions and two flavanones (naringenin and 5-β-D-glycosyl-naringenin) isolated from the flowers of Acacia podalyriifolia A. Cunn. ex G. Don. The flavanones naringenin and 5-β-D-glycosyl-naringenin had not previously been obtained from this species. The most effective antibacterial activity was observed in the ethyl acetate fraction (MIC=0.25 mg mL-1 against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, MIC = 0.125 mg mL-1 against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12229, MIC=0.5 mg mL-1 against Streptococcus pyogenes ATCC 19615, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 13883 and Proteus mirabilis ATCC 43071). The evaluated samples showed antioxidant activity on the TBARS test, especially for ethanol extract (1000 ppm), which was the most active (29.43% ± 0.65) followed by ethyl acetate fraction (1000 ppm, 24.84% ± 1,28), both demonstrating higher activity than that presented by ascorbic acid (1000 ppm, 21.73% ± 1.77), although lower than the BHT (1000 ppm 35.15% ± 3.42), both reference compounds. Naringenin and 5-β-D-glycosyl-naringenin demonstrated antioxidant action, but only naringenin inhibited the growth of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Karamunting (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (Aiton) Hassk) is a family of Myrtaceae which has been used by the community as traditional medicine. The purpose of this research is determine total phenolic and total flavonoid level and test antioxidant activity of Karamunting Leaves. Determination of total phenolic using gallic acid standard by the Folin Ciocalteu method. The results obtained total phenolic in water fraction of 99 mgGAE/g, ethanol extract 94,1 mgGAE/g, ethyl acetate fraction 83,3 mgGAE/g and n-hexane fraction 41,4 mgGAE/g. Determination of total flavonoid using standard quersetin with AlCL3 complex formation method, the results obtained total flavonoid in water fraction of 156,8 mgQE/g, ethanol extract 192,6 mgQE/g, ethyl acetate fraction 89,4 mgQE/g and n-hexane fraction 31,3 mgQE/g. Determination of antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH radical capture test (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl), the results obtained in water fraction with IC50 value 15,02 µg/mL, ethanol extract 14,06 µg/mL, ethyl acetate fraction 14,48 µg/mL with very strong activity of antioxidant, whereas in the n-hexane fraction was categorized as weak antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 264,02 µg/mL.

African leaves (Vernonia amygdalina Del.) are reported to have activity as anti-malarial, antibacterial, anticancer, antioxidant, and others. This is closely related to the secondary metabolite compounds, that are contained in african leaves. One of the secondary metabolites that have a big role in the efficacy of african leaves is flavonoids. So that the purpose of this study, to isolated and identified the flavonoid compounds from african leaves. The plants were picked directly in the Tabanan area, Bali. The stages of this study were making the ethanol extract of african leaves, skrinning of the secondary metabolite compounds from the ethanol extract of african leaves. After that, the isolation and purification of flavonoids in ethyl acetate fraction from extract of african leaves are doing. Then the isolate of flavonoid compounds are identified using Ultra Violet-Visible (UV-Vis) and Infrared (IR) spectrophotometer methods. From the results of this study, the yield of ethanol extract was 3.693% derived from maceration of African leaf simplicia powder using 96% ethanol as solvent. The results of phytochemical screening, African leaf ethanol extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, steroids, and saponins. The results of the fractionation obtained n-hexane fraction as much as 2.57 grams, ethyl acetate fraction 0.53 grams, and water fraction as much as 3.02 grams. The flavonoid compounds in the ethyl acetate fraction were separated and isolated, resulting in 2 isolates which were further identified by UV-Vis and IR spectrophotometry. The results obtained with the addition of shear reagents that the ethyl acetate fraction contains flavonoids of the flavone group (7-hydroxyl free), and on examination by IR spectrophotometry showed the presence of OH groups, aliphatic CH, C=O, aromatic C=C, CO alcohol, and aromatic CH.

The present investigation was planned to estimate total phenols and antioxidant activity in Clematis erecta aerial parts. Properly identified powdered plant was successively extracted in Soxhlet apparatus with solvents in order of increasing polarity viz., petroleum ether, chloroform, methanol and water. Ethyl acetate fraction and 1-butanol fraction of methanol extract were prepared using standardized procedure. Quantification of phenols was done on the basis of standard curve of gallic acid using standardized procedures. In vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH assay in comparison to standard drug rutin. Maximum phenols content and antioxidant activity was found in ethyl acetate fraction followed by methanol extract and 1-butanol fraction, whereas negligible phenols content and antioxidant activity was observed in petroleum ether, chloroform and water extracts. The available literature reveals that polyphenols have been reported to possess antioxidant properties. Finally, it can be concluded that these polyphenols may be responsible for antioxidant properties.
