Following the global outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, work is no longer being conducted in the traditional manner. This has created pressure on businesses to shift into a mode of remote working in order to avoid severe disruption. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has attempted to face challenges accompanying this crisis and explore solutions with the wise vision and constant support of its leadership. This paper examines the transition of working procedures at one of the most influential entities in the UAE; the Ministry of Education (MOE). The purpose here is to shed light on how obstacles have been turned into opportunities in order for MOE employees to continue working remotely during such critical conditions. This is illustrated by the efforts of ministry departments that were interviewed for their feedback during the study. This paper provides insights into the activation of remote work in response to sudden incidents by highlighting measurements and factors that contribute to entities’ readiness for such a transition. This study analyzes the value and originality of MOE remote working practices and their impact on the wider community.

Abstract This article compares consumer protection in the framework of discounts with the constituent elements of such sales and the relevant methods of protecting consumer rights, according to French, Emirati, Jordanian, and Tunisian legislation and judicial practice. The findings shed light on the operation of consumer rights and market protection, and argues that each legal system has developed divergent means to attain the same goal. While some legal systems have organised sales with detailed rules, others have engaged in very limited market intervention; in the latter case, consumers are prevented from enjoying an important set of rights, as consumer rights and market protection are determined by the merchants.

The main objective of this article is to know how the production of the digital didactic materials created by institutional portals of educational resources is organized, taking as a reference the perspective of its main responsible. In particular, the case of the institutional repository of resources of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, Ecoescuela 2.0; and the portal of open educational resources Procomún (Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports). This study aims to answer different questions related to the authorship of the materials, the process and development, as well as the criteria established by the institutional portals for their production. For this purpose, a qualitative research methodology is chosen, which tries to shed light on the existing processes regarding the design and production of said digital materials. The results indicate several issues: the need to continue researching this issue, the change of authorship in the creation of teaching materials, as well as the inclusion of teachers in the process of creating and developing them.

This article elucidates a problem of restoring ideologically removed terminological units to modern technical terminology. �Russian-Ukrainian dictionary of scientific terminology. Mathematics. Physics. Earth and Space Sciences�, published in Kyiv in 1998, �Defining Russian-Ukrainian-English Dictionary of Energy� edited by A. Rudnik, published in Kharkiv in 1999 and �Russian-Ukrainian Dictionary of Engineering Technologies� from the terminographic series Word World, published in Lviv in 2013 were analyzed. �Repressed� terms have been found in all analyzed lexicographic works, prepared and published by various Ukrainian schools. Having analyzed the term material of these terminological works, it has been noted that all the authors of mentioned dictionaries reasonably continue to revive the authentic Ukrainian terms. The purpose of the article is to identify tendencies of standardization of Ukrainian technical terminology, common for domestic terminological schools, on the basis of the analysis of �repressed� terms recorded in modern lexicographical works. In the dictionary article they clearly put terms on the first place, that are recommended by the permanent scientific terminological seminar of the Technical Committee for Standardization of Scientific and Technical Terminology of Derzhspozhyvstandart and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as well as the requirements of the State Standard. It was discovered that lexicographers of Lviv Polytechnic consistently continue the traditions of Ukrainian terminologists of the 1920s, who were employees of the Institute of Scientific Language of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, and use methods of describing terminological material typical for the �golden decade� Ukrainian terminology. Descriptive-analytical and comparative methods are applied in the study, according to which the observation of the analyzed lexicographic material is generalized, in particular, the terms that were removed from the Ukrainian technical terminology in the 30s of the twentieth century by terminological bulletins are described. The structural method contributes to the description of word-forming affixes of the studied terms. Analytical and synthetic elaboration of terminographic sources is used to shed light on the historiography of this issue. Based on the analytical-synthetic elaboration of lexicographic works of three domestic terminological schools, the article reveals the following common tendencies of standardization of Ukrainian technical terminology: return to the terminology of unfairly forgotten or forcibly removed nominations; creation of new terms according to Ukrainian word-forming models, restoration of etymological writing and sounding of technical terms; arranging scientific and technical dictionaries by teams of authors � specialists in various technical fields and terminographs; the common position of domestic terminological schools is to focus on the native language soil, taking into account the achievements of previous generations.

Remote work provides an alternative method of working for organisations, which in turn became a norm during the Covid-19 pandemic. In this, paper, we study adaptation practices introduced by both individuals and organisations as a way for managing the enforced remote work. The study draws upon 33 interviews collected over a year during different phases of the Covid 19 pandemic. We apply adaptation theory lenses to examine the adaptation process over time and new digital working practices. In our study, we extend technological practices by including organisational and behavioral practices. We approach adaptation as a way of coping with a radical change or dynamic situation and building resilience. Based on the data analysis, we expend the adaptation theory in relation to different forms of adaptation to new remote work practices (e.g. at technological, organisational, and behavioural level).

In recent years, Research Ethics Committees in academic colleges of education have constituted to review research proposals in the field of education. Yet, little is known about their work, composition, challenges, and relationships with external partners. This study explores the views and attitudes of 13 members and chairpersons of Research Ethics Committees in colleges of education in Israel, and two policy makers at the Ministry of Education about their roles, responsibilities, challenges, and limitations. Findings revealed an instrumental attitude towards the ethics committee. Committees are perceived as supportive rather than enforcing. Interviews shed light on the complex relationships between committee members, college lecturers/researchers, ethics regulators, and academic management. Moreover, the findings emphasized the lack of formal training and broad discussion on ethics. The study calls for strengthening committees’ raison d'être and the internalization of ethics among committee members, researchers, and lecturers in the field of education.

Today, technology has become an essential part of the everyday educational setting. Its use has proven to facilitate learning and communication of many students with and without disabilities. Assuredly, assistive technology (AT) has transformed education and empowered students with disabilities. In spite of the rapid changes taking place in all sectors in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the research studies investigating AT for students with special needs in the (UAE) are limited, if any. Quantitative and qualitative data collection methodology were used to explore the AT tools, services, barriers, and professional development available in the UAE special needs centers. Results showed that different types of AT devices existed in the classrooms which were available for students of different of disabilities. In addition, results revealed different types of barriers hindering the use of AT. Results may shed light on the use of AT in the UAE, teachers' perceptions towards this use and barriers impeding such use. Recommendations and suggestions to improve the use of AT wherever and whenever needed in the UAE are discussed.

Purpose: The main goal of the chapter was to shed light on the challenges that women entrepreneurs face during the Covid-19 pandemic and answer how women entrepreneurs reorient their businesses in this situation. Design/methodology/approach: The study used secondary data (literature and reports), along with direct interviews with women entrepreneurs located in Poland. Findings: The Covid-19 pandemic and the ensuing disruption have disproportionately impacted women. In the near future, women will experience increased unemployment and household responsibilities, along with the exacerbation of social injustice. At the same time, the Covid-19 pandemic catalyzed changes. The findings indicate that some women entrepreneurs aggressively adapted their businesses to resist the short-term impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. There appeared acceptance for remote work models, acceleration in the use of digital channels on both the demand and the supply side, and a shift toward digital over physical interactions, all of which have the potential to level the playing field, especially for women entrepreneurs. Research limitations/implications: Further research in this area should focus on the effects of protracted restrictions on doing business and the growing problems associated with managing a pandemic. Originality and value: The study adds anew dimension to entrepreneurship considerations by recognizing that gender issues are rarely considered in times of crises of economies.
