Background: Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) is a biological fluid derived from the gingival sulcus and can be elevated in the inflammatory state of periodontal tissue, such as gingivitis. In previous studies, the number of GCF could also increase after panoramic radiographic exposure. Increase in GCF due to panoramic radiography is a sign of cell damage. Objective: To analyze the effects of panoramic radiography on the volume of GCF in wistar rats with gingivitis. Method: This type of research was true experimental with post test only and control group design. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling. A total of 25 wistar rats were classified into two control groups without exposure (state without gingivitis and gingivitis) and three groups treatment of exposure (state of gingivitis with 1 time, 2 times, and 3 times the exposure). GCF sampling using filter paper was carried out 10 minutes after panoramic radiographic exposure. The filter paper was stained by 2% ninhydrin solution, after that the GCF volume was calculated. Results: There was a significant difference in the number of GCF (p<0.05) in the group without gingivitis and exposure compared to all other groups, the gingivitis group without exposure compared to the gingivitis group with 3 times exposure, and the gingivitis group with 1 time exposure compared to the gingivitis group 3 times with exposure. Conclusion: Panoramic radiography can cause an increase in the volume of GCF in wistar rats with gingivitis. Keywords: GCF, gingivitis, panoramic radiography

ABSTRACTBackground: Panoramic radiography is one of the most commonly used radiographic diagnostic tools. Panoramic radiography exposure can increase the GCF flow because of increasing vascular permeability.GCF flow can also increase in periodontitis conditions. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of 1, 2, and 3 times exposure of panoramic radiography to the volume of GCF in wistar rats with periodontitis. Method: This research was true experimental with post test onlycontrol group design. Thesampling technique used simple random samplingthat obtained 25 wistar rats comprising of 5 wistars from each group in which the GCF samples of each group was collected from. Results: The average number of GCF inhealthy rats groupthat was not exposed to panoramic radiographywas 0.114 µL, the periodontitis rats group that was not exposed to panoramic radiography was 0.246 µL, the periodontitis rats group that was exposed1 time was 0.286 µL, the group of periodontitis rats exposed 2 times was 0.294 µL, and periodontitis group of rats exposed 3 times was 0.374 µL. The results of the One-Way Anova and Post Hoc Bonferroni tests stated that there is a significant increase in the volume of GCF between the control group and all other treatment groups, as well as between the non-exposed periodontitis group and the periodontitis group with 3 times exposure. This study aims to analyze the effect of combination of motor vehicle particular matter exposure and high-fat diet in kidney histopathology, creatinine levels, and MDA levels in Wistar rats. This study used a posttest-only control group design. Eighteen healthy male Wistar rats were divided into three groups. The intervention groups received motor vehicle fume exposure for 100 s with normal diet (X1) or high-fat diet (X2), and the control group received no exposure (C). Data analysis was processed with a SPSS 25.0 computer program by using the one-way ANOVA test followed by post hoc LSD. The degree of kidney histopathological damage showed significant differences between the X1 and X2 groups when compared with the control group (p < 0.05). The results of the creatinine level examination found a significant difference between the X2 and C groups (p < 0.05) and the treatment groups X1 and X2 (p < 0.05). The results of kidney MDA level examination showed a significant difference between the treatment groups (X1 and X2) and the control group (p < 0.05). The combination of particular matter of motor vehicle fumes exposure and high-fat diet could induce kidney damage through histopathological change and increased creatinine levels and kidney MDA levels in Wistar rats.

Background: Oral mucosa ulceration which often occurs usually in the form of white-yellowish spot with concave surface, reddish edge and pain. Based on previous research, Aloe vera process anti-inflammation substance that could help quickening ulceration healing process. This research aims to know the effect of Aloe vera flesh extract on Male wistar rats oral mucosa ulceration in-vivo. Method: this research was quasi experimental research with the post-test only control group design using Male wistar rats as the testing animal. In the research, there were three treatment groups: The first groups which was given aquadest treatment, second groups with Aloe vera flesh extract, and third groups which was given chlorhexidine gluconate 0,2% treatment. The data collecting was based on histopathology observation concerning the increase of fibroblast quantity. Result: The research result based on comparison test among the three groups with One Way Anova showed that on Day 3th, the average quantity of fibroblast didn't have significant difference between the treatment group and control group positive that was p>0,05, meanwhile on Day 7th every group showed significant difference p<0,05. Conclusion: It concluded that Aloe vera flesh extract has influence on the healing of Male wistar rats oral mucosa ulceration as shown by fibroblast increasing quantity.

Background: Photoaging is a premature aging that occurs on skin due to the ultraviolet light exposure that causes the emergence of clinical symptoms, one of which is wrinkle. One kind of material that can prevent photoaging is antioxidant. A single clove garlic has the highest antioxidant activity compared to the other materials. Aim: This research aimed at investigating the effectivity of single clove garlic in inhibiting the clinical symptom of photoaging. Method: This research was an experimental research, utilizing pre-post-test control group design. The used sample were 30 male wistar rats which were divided into 6 experimental groups. All groups were exposed to UV-B light with the amount of 840 mJ/cm2. Control group (P1) was only exposed to UV-B while the other groups were treated with placebo cream (P2), sunblock (P3), 5% garlic cream (P4), 10% garlic cream (P5) and 20% garlic cream (P6) respectively. The clinical symptom in the form of wrinkle was observed by using dermascope and the observations were categorized based on Glogau Scale. The statistical analysis utilized Wilcoxon and Kruskal Wallis test which was followed by Mann Whitney test. Result: The result of the research showed that there was significant difference on the apparent wrinkle on P1 group and P3, P5 and P6. Meanwhile the comparison between P1, P2 and P4 was not significant. Conclusion: The single clove garlic extract can prevent photoaging and has the similar protective effect for the skin as of sunblock.

Panoramic radiography is a radiography technique which is commonly used in dentistry. X-ray radiation from panoramic radiography can cause biological damage, such as the increase of gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) volume. One of materials which was known having the ability to decrease the effect of panoramic radiography is β-carotene in mucoadhesive gingival patch form. The application of β-carotene mucoadhesive gingival patch reduce micronucleus increasing in previous study. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of β-carotene mucoadhesive gingival patch application on palatal gingiva of maxillary incisor teeth to the GCF volume of panoramic radiography exposed patients. This study involved 10 subjects (5 females and 5 males). The GCF sample was taken from the labial sulcus of 11, 12 teeth (treatment group) and 21, 22 teeth (control group) of each subject before and after panoramic radiography exposure. β-carotene mucoadhesive gingival patch was applicated on palatal gingiva before panoramic radiography examination. Sample was collected using an absorbent paper which is inserted to the labial gingival sulcus. The GCF on the absorbent papers were marked by adding ninhydrin 2%, then the GCF volume was measured using a sliding caliper. Paired t-test result shows a significant difference between GCF volume in each group before and after panoramic radiography exposure (p<0.05). Independent t-test shows no significant difference between the GCF volume difference in the control and treatment group (p>0.05). The result of this study shows that the application of β-carotene mucoadhesive gingival patch on palatal gingiva of maxillary incisor teeth shows insignificant effect in decreasing the increase of GCF volume in panoramic radiography exposed patients.

<p><strong><em> </em></strong></p><p><strong><em>Background: </em></strong><em>Oral candidiasis generally caused by Candida albicans with prevalence of 30-50%. C. Albicans proliferation in the oral cavity was canducted by decreasing immune system of the host. Lymphocytes activation in immune system happened when there is a contact between host cell with cell wall of C. albicans as a result of C. albicans antigen. One of therapy to suppress the Candida infection sistemically is by giving hyperbaric oxygen therapy. <strong>Purpose: </strong>To determine the effects of giving hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the amount of lymphocytes in oral candidiasis immunosuppressed models. <strong>Methods:</strong> This research was post test only control group design. We used 12 wistar rats which were divided into 3 groups(n=4/3): K-(normal/ healthy wistar rats), K+(oral candidiasis immunosuppressed wistar rats), P1(oral candidiasis immunosuppressed wistar rats which were given hyperbaric oxygen therapy 5 days). K+ and P1 groups were immunosuppressed by giving dexamethasone 0,5mg/day/rat orally for 14 days, added with tetrasiklin 1 mg/day/rat. On the 3rd day immunosuppression, the rats were inducted with C.albicans smeared in the dorsum linguae once every two days for 12 days. <strong>Results:</strong> The data were analyzed with one way Anova test and showed significant difference among groups (p&lt;0,05). AbstractThe current understanding of the pathogenesis of periodontal disease has resulted in adjunctive use of various pharmacologic agents in periodontal therapy. The objective of this investigation was to assess the efficacy of atorvastatin and simvastatin (because of their pleiotropic properties) as an adjunct to dental scaling and root planing (SRP) by local delivery, i.e. placing them subgingivally, in the treatment of chronic periodontitis.Local delivery systems for atorvastatin and simvastatin were prepared in sodium alginate suspension to be administered with calcium chloride solution. Patients diagnosed with chronic periodontitis were grouped as group 1, receiving SRP only (control), group 2, receiving SRP with subgingival delivery of 1.2% simvastatin, and group 3, receiving SRP with subgingival delivery of 1.2% atorvastatin. Clinical parameters and interleukin (IL) 1α levels in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) were assessed.All three groups showed significant reductions in clinical parameters and IL-1α levels in the GCF (p<0.05). However, the test groups did not show any statistically significant difference when compared with control.Subgingivally delivered atorvastatin and simvastatin as an adjunct to SRP is efficacious but did not demonstrate any added benefit as compared with SRP alone.

The aim of this study was the quantification of Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) in periodontal pockets of patients with periodontitis. This is an observational, descriptive, case-control study. Thirty subjects were selected: 15 controls and 15 cases. A periodontal study was conducted following the parameters of AAP 2017 for the diagnosis of periodontal diseases. A sample of saliva and gingival crevicular fluid was obtained from each subject and then analyzed with the Human S1P Elisa kit (MyBioSource #MBS2516132) accordingly to the manufacturer's instructions, in order to verify the presence of S1P and quantify it´s concentration when founded. Results showed a significant difference (p=0.05) between cases and controls. In the case of saliva samples, the concentration of S1P was higher than the ones found in the control group (72.94 ng/mL and 45.12 ng/mL). For GCF, a higher amount of S1P was found in patients with POD (20.09 ng/mL and 15.20 ng/mL). This work raises a possible route of bone metabolism, inflammatory process, and identification of periodontitis through oral quantification of S1P, however, future studies are needed.

The aim of this experiment was to determine the effect of meniran herbs (Phyllantus niruri L.) extract to blood triglycerides level in Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). This experiment was a laboratory experiment with pre and post-test with a control group design. The samples were 30 male Wistar rats with ±200 gram of body weight and ±2 months old. The samples were divided into five groups by using a purposive random sampling technique and each group consisted of six rats. Group I as a negative control, group II as a positive control, and groups III, IV and V as meniran herbs extract groups with first dose, second dose, and third dose. All rats were simultaneously given with hyperlipemic feed. Group II was simultaneously administered with Cholvastin 0.5 mg/200 grams body weight/day. Groups III, IV and V were simultaneously treated with meniran herbs extract at dose of 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg/200 grams body weight/day. The total period of this experiment was 21 days. At the day 1st and 21st, blood was collected from rat orbital venous plexus. Serum was analyzed for their pre and post-test blood triglycerides. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by a post-hoc test. The value of p=0.002 (p<0.05) showed there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test in delta means of blood triglycerides level among groups. Meniran herbs extract had a significant triglycerides lowering effect against blood triglycerides level of Wistar rats. The most potential of meniran herbs extract dose was 100 mg/200 gram body weight/day.

Introduction: Lead exposure has a negative impact on health. Lead can caused abnormality hematologic parameters. Orthosiphon stamineus Benth is one of the herbal medicines and known to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-angiogenesis. Objective: This study aims to prove the effect of Orthosiphon stamineus Benth on hematologic parameters in lead acetate induced Wistar rat. Method: The study used posttest only control group design. The samples were 30 male Wistar rats, divided into 5 groups. Normal control group (NC) was given normal saline. Negative control group (NG) was induced by lead acetate 30 mg/kg/day. GT-50, GT-100, GT-200 was induced by lead acetate and orally administered by 50,100, and 200 mg/kg Orthosiphon extract once daily for 14 days respectively. One-way Anova and post hoc LSD were used for statistical analysis. Result: Hemoglobin level and leukocyte count in all group were not different (p=0.56 and p=0.25). There was a significant difference in platelet count between all group (p=0.035). Platelet count in NC group (900 ±171 x103/μl) was significantly higher than NG group (656±201 x103/μl, p=0.016), NG group was significantly lower than GT-50 (869±134 x103/μl, p=0.032), GT-100 (930±162 x103/μl, p=0.008) and GT-200 (938±148 x103/μl, p=0.006) Conclusion: There is a decrement of platelets number in lead acetate exposure.
