English is one of the most studied and used languages worldwide. The process of acquiring reading is a complex task that involves mastering a set of strategies aimed at assimilating written information by the reader. Different studies have shown that the process of understanding reading in the mother tongue has certain similarities with this same learning in English because in both situations semantic and contextual information is used, but there are also several authors who point out that there are distinctions between reading models in a first and second language. This chapter delves into these relationships, which focus on analysing the variables that most influence the learning of comprehensive capacity in Spanish and English. A quasi-experimental design of comparison between groups with pre-test and post-test measurements was used. The study involved 120 students aged between 8 and 9. The results indicate that there are a number of factors that are related in learning to read in Spanish and English.

This research is motivated by the learning process carried out in class V of SD Negeri 8 Metro Timur, SD Negeri 1 Metro Barat, SD Negeri 1 Metro Utara dan SD Negeri 5 Metro Pusat. The implementation of the learning process carried out by teachers who generally still use conventional learning methods and models that are only fixated on books and more teacher-centered, students listen to explanations from the teacher, take notes, memorize information and work on problems. practice questions rather than doing practical activities through experiments or experiments. As a result, the learning process becomes less attractive and seems monotonous because students tend to be passive and less participatory in learning activities. Teachers lack innovation in the use of active and innovative methods or learning models that are more student centered. That is, learning that provides more opportunities for students to construct independently the process of understanding material through a more active learning process through search activities and problem solving. In response to this, researchers conduct learning using a project based learning learning model with the aim of improving students' science process skills and scientific literacy skills. The purpose of this study was to describe the influence of the PjBL model on process skills and scientific literacy skills. The type of this study is quasi-experimental research using the design of nonequivalent groups pre test-post test from Fraenkel and Wallen. The design of nonequivalent groups pre test - post test was started by setting the experimental group and the control group, then doing the pre test, followed by giving treatment to the two classes and ending with a post test. Objective - The fundamental scientific literacy skills of primary learners remains crucial as the STEM and Industry 4.0 thrusts begin to configurate across levels. Espousing the view that a visual fun-laden learning medium fosters learners’ understanding on natural phenomena and its scientific literacy, this research aims to examine the effect of inquiry-based science comics as a learning medium in improving primary learners' scientific literacy skills. Methodology/Technique –This study employs the quasi-experimental method, specifically, the pre-test/post-test control group design. Three levels of learners’ scientific literacy which covers scientific concepts and phenomena (LTC-1), thinking (LTC-2), and scientific inquiry processes (LTC-3) were quantitatively measured by using problem-set tests. The inquiry sequences of observing, questioning, exploring, discussing and evaluating were integral features of the inquiry-based comics and provided the direction of the learning sessions. Improvements in the learners’ scientific literacy skills were qualitatively triangulated through series of class observations, learners’ experiments and related artefacts, and post-mortem group discussion. Finding - The results show that there was a significant difference in students’ scientific literacy using the inquiry-based comic. The increase in gained score occurred in the first (LTC-1) and second (LTC-2) level of scientific literacy. The skills of making diagrams, charting data and drawing conclusions also progressed in the experimental group. This finding indicates that inquiry-based science comics provide a support platform in developing the fundamental scientific literacy skills of primary graders. Novelty - The results of this study contribute to the limited literature on the use of instructional inquiry-based science comics in order to leverage scientific literacy skills of primary years. Studies have pointed to the benefits of physical activity (PA), yet the level of PA participation among preschoolers islow. This in turn could have resulted in the limited research literature on the PA level or physical educationcurriculum (PEC) of preschool children. Those reviewed here are mostly from countries in the West, as those fromAsia are unavailable. To fill this gap, the present study was carried out to investigate the effectiveness of a formalPEC on the physical ability of a sample of five-year old children from several preschools in Singapore. Using aPhysical Ability Assessment (PAA) tool with five variables, a pre-test/post-test quasi-experimental design was usedto measure the effectiveness of the PEC with control and experimental groups for the comparative analysis. Theresults of the PAA are presented and the implications from the findings and analysis are discussed.
