<p><em>This research is entitled “Abbreviation in Everyday Converstion on Social Media: A Morphological Study”. The method used in this study is a qualitative method. The data are taken from everyday conversation on social media such as line, whatsapp, facebook, twitter, and instagram. The theory are used abbreviation process and slang language. The aims of this study are to describe the common features of abbreviation process used by young and adult Indonesian people. Based on the research, it is indicated that the participants used three most common abbreviation processes are acronym, blending, and clipping in everyday conversation on social media. Acronym and blending found as the most common abbreviation process among the three features. As for the reasons of this language phenomenon occurrence identified are the participants intend to save time, fill the communication gap or barrier among the users, and indicate the social group.</em></p>

Campaigns nowadays are oftenly carried through social medias, including campaigns concerning the environment. Based on previous studies, effectivity of campaigns through social medias were affected by many factors, such as the activity of the online administrator, additional socialization that were carried off- line, and also the involvement of the active followers in social medias. However, this paper views environmental campaign in social medias could be effective if viewed from another side,that is social network. This study sees how social network can improve the effectivity of environmental campaigns in social medias,therefore it’s safe to say that this study brings an addition to previous studies related tofactors that influenced the effectivity of environmental campaigns that utilized social medias as a channel of communication. The method used for this paper is qualitative method, with case study on Melawan Asap (Fight the Haze) campaign initiated by BEM UI (Executive Board of Students of University of Indonesia) in 2015 to form an alliance consisting several organizations from inside and outside of the university. Collection of data for this study was done with in-depth interviews with certain informants, based on a criteria established previously by the author, beside an observation upon social media accounts that were used for Fight the Haze campaign. The result shows that the involvement of networks in social media affects the effectivity of Fight the Haze campaign. Also, the social relation between organizations that are united under the alliance of Fight the Haze campaign are based on sentimental network.Kampanye kian marak dilakukan dengan menggunakan media sosial, tidak terkecuali kampanye lingkungan. Berdasarkan kajian-kajian sebelumnya, keefektifan kampanye dengan menggunakan media sosial dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor seperti adanya administrator online yang aktif, adanya sosialisasi tambahan yang dilakukan secara offline, dan juga terlibatnya pengikut/followers di media sosial secara aktif. Namun, tulisanini melihat kampanye lingkungan di media sosial dapat efektif dari sisi lain yaitu dari jaringan sosial. Kajian ini melihat bagaimana jaringan sosial berperan dalam membuat efektif kampanye lingkungan di media sosial, sehingga dapat dikatakan bahwa kajian ini menambahkan penemuan dari kajian-kajian sebelumnya yang berbicara mengenai faktor yang membuat efektif kampanye lingkungan dengan menggunakan media sosial sebagai media komunikasinya. Metode yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan studi kasus pada kampanye melawan asap yang diinisiatori oleh BEM UI 2015 untuk membentuk sebuah aliansi dengan menggandeng beberapa organisasi di UI dan juga dari luar UI. Pengambilan data dalam studi ini dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan informan- informan tertentu berdasarkan kriteria yang penulis tetapkan dan melakukan observasi terhadap akun media sosial yang digunakan untuk menyebarluaskan kampanye melawan asap. Hasil kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa keterlibatan peran jaringan di media sosial mempengaruhi efektifitas kampanye melawan asap, serta hubungan sosial antar organisasi yang tergabung dalam aliansi gerakan melawan asap terbentuk berdasarkan jaringan perasaan/sentiment.

This study aims to determine the social interaction of Lazis Darul Hikam and the community through Instagram social media and to find out the role of social media Instagram in building awareness of donation in Lazis Darul Hikam. The research uses symbolic interaction theory to photograph how people interact using social media, define the meaning of the symbols conveyed and ultimately lead to actions in this case giving donations. The method used is a qualitative method, the donor Lazis Darul Hikam, an active user of Instagram, is an informant in this study. The results showed that social media has the following roles: (1) Instagram is a medium for inter-institutional interaction with the community to introduce programs and reporting media, (2) Instagram social media is also able to build awareness of donations by collecting funds obtained through social media.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui interaksi sosial Lazis Darul Hikam dan masyarakat melalui media sosial Instagram serta untuk mengetahui peran media sosial Instagram membangun kesadaran berdonasi di Lazis Darul Hikam.  Penelitian menggunakan teori interaksi simbolik untuk memotret bagaimana masyarakat berinteraksi menggunakan media sosial, mendefinisikan makna dari simbol-simbol yang disampaikan dan akhirnya bermuara pada perbuatan dalam hal ini memberikan donasi. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif, donatur Lazis Darul Hikam pengguna aktif Instagram menjadi informan dalam penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa media sosial memiliki peran sebagai berikut: (1) Instagram menjadi media untuk berinteraksi antar lembaga dengan masyarakat untuk memperkenalkan program dan media pelaporan, (2) Media sosial Instagram juga mampu membangun kesadaran berdonasi dengan terkumpulnya dana yang didapatkan melalui media sosial

The emergence of social media over the last decade has substantially altered not only the means people communicate with each other but also the whole online ecosystems. For the common public in particular, social media enables and broadens the social conversation that anyone interested can engage in on urgent social problems such as environmental pollution. In China, the ever-thickening air pollution smothering most urban cities in recent years has provoked a nationwide discussion, and popular social media like Weibo has been fully utilised by various social actors to participate in this “green speak”. This paper examines the civil discourse about the deteriorating air pollution on China’s largest microblogging platform-Sina Weibo, and seeks to understand how different social actors respond to and reconstruct the reality. Through a discourse analysis aided by a text analytics/ visualisation software—eximancer, this paper investigates the civil discourse from three angles: the demographics, the discursive strategies and the potential social effect. The result suggests that proactive civil engagement in this issue has produced an environmental discourse with a wide range of topics involved, and that the benign interactions between social actors could give rise to a proactive interactional mode between Chinese state and civil society which would definitely be beneficial to the democratisation process in contemporary China.

From time to time, normal human beings not suffering from any mental illness have reported experiences either akin to or identical with hallucinations (Byrd, 1938; Slocum, 1948; Ritter, 1954; Bombard, 1955). The common features in these reports have been the social isolation of the people involved and the physical hardships of their living conditions. They have usually been solitary mariners or polar explorers. Scientific interest was not aroused in these phenomena until directed to them by the experiences of prisoners of war in Korea who had undergone “brain-washing” techniques. At this time, Hebb and his colleagues began a series of experiments which opened up an era of widespread research into the field of Sensory Deprivation.

Sustainability is an internationally discussed topic in the development of products and services. Frugal innovations aim to conserve resources in the manufacture and use of such products and services. It can therefore be assumed that the areas of sustainability and frugal innovation overlap. This work is intended to show the connection between sustainability, frugal innovations and household appliances in the form of washing machines in industrialized countries. For the analysis, the characteristics of frugal innovations are compared with the requirements of washing machines in industrial nations and then the parallels to the social development goals (SDG) are determined as characteristics for sustainability. The existing literature will be reviewed for evaluation. The aim of the work is to show the connection and give an indication of the sustainable development of an everyday product as a frugal innovation in the industrialized countries.

The precious data from online origin has developed into a extended research. The mass media and news media provides the daily events to the common people. Huge amount of information is been achieved by an online social media suchlike Twitter, which contains more information about news-associated content. It is necessary to find a way to filter noise, for these resources to be useful and grab the content that is depend on the similarity to news media. Despite after the noise is eliminated the excessive data still remain in the data so it is essential to prioritize it for utilization. We are introducing three factors for prioritization. The unsupervised technique finds the news topics that are common in the pair of social media and news media, and then ranks them by the applicability factors such as MF, UA and UI. Initially the temporal prevalence of the appropriate topic in news media focus (MF). Secondary the temporal prevalence of the appropriate topic in social media illustrates the user attention (UA). Finally the interconnection among the social media users who specify this topic demonstrates the power of the society who is discussing; it is termed as the user interaction (UI).

Resumo:O objetivo desse trabalho é identificar e verificar os sentidos de alguns termos e expressões presentes na linguagem de adolescentes que cumprem medidas socioeducativas de privação de liberdade em um Centro Socioeducativo, e constatar a possível dicionarização desses itens lexicais no dicionário Houaiss(HOUAISS; VILLAR, 2011). Do total desses itens, constatou-se que 40 se encontram no referido dicionário com o mesmo sentido atribuído pelos entrevistados, o que pode indicar que estes já migraram da condição delinguagem restrita a um grupo social específico para a linguagem comum; 64 itens se encontram dicionarizados, embora com um sentido diferente do atribuído pelos informantes, o que aponta o caráter polissêmico dessa linguagem; e 156 termos e expressões não se encontram dicionarizadas em Houaiss (2011), o que permite inferir o aspecto restrito e fechado que caracteriza esse código linguístico.Palavras-chave: Sociolinguística; Método qualitativo; Variação linguística, Adolescentes privados de liberdade. A SOCIOLINGUISTIC STUDY OF THE LANGUAGE OF ADOLESCENTS OF A SOCIO-EDUCATIONAL CENTERAbstract:The objective of this work is to identify and verify the meanings of some terms and expressions present in the language of adolescents who comply with socioeducative measures of deprivation of liberty in Socio-educational Center, and to verify the possible dictionalization of these lexical items in the Houaiss dictionary (HOUAISS; VILLAR, 2011). Of the total of these items, 40 were found in the dictionary with the same meaning as the interviewees, which may indicate that they have already migrated from the restricted language condition to a social group specific to the common language; 64 items are dictionary-based, although with a sense different from that attributed by the informants, which points out the polysemic character of this language; and 156 terms and expressions are not worded in Houaiss (2011), which allows to infer the restricted and closed aspect that characterizes this language code.Keywords: Sociolinguistic; Qualitative method; Linguistic variation, Adolescents deprived of their liberty.

Teenagers language is considered as variant of Indonesian language which socially mark that the social group who uses such language are teenagers. In various contexts, the using of teenagers language shows different forms. The using of Indonesian language in rubric “Deteksi” Jawa Pos brings particularity, syntactic, and lexicon level. This article aims to describe the language attitude of teenagers with using not standardized indicator of Indonesian language in rubric “Deteksi” Jawa Pos. The data in this research is in using Indonesian language in the forms of words, phrases and sentences. The method used in this research is qualitative method. Data collection was conducted by using observation method and taking note technique. The data analyzing applied distributional method. The research result shows that (1) there are some not- standardized indicators in rubric “Deteksi” Jawa Pos such as interferences, code mixing, and unexamined spelling in writing forms and (2) teenegers language attitude in term of the awareness of language norm. Abstrak Bahasa remaja dipandang sebagai varian bahasa Indonesia yang secara sosial menandai bahwa kelompok sosial yang menggunakan varian itu adalah kaum remaja. Dalam berbagai konteks, pemakaian bahasa remaja memperlihatkan wujud yang berbeda. Pemakaian bahasa Indonesia dalam rubrik “Deteksi” Jawa Pos menampakkan kekhasan, baik pada tataran fonologi, morfologi, sintaksis, maupun leksikon. Artikel ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan sikap bahasa kaum remaja dengan melihat indikator ketidakbakuan pemakaian bahasa Indonesia dalam rubrik “Deteksi” Jawa Pos. Data penelitian ini adalah kesalahan pemakaian bahasa Indonesia berupa kata, frasa, klausa, dan kalimat yang dimuat di rubrik “Deteksi” Jawa Pos. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode simak melalui teknik catat. Analisis data menggunakan metode agih. Hasil penelitian ini adalah (1) Beberapa indikator ketidakbakuan dalam rubrik “Deteksi” Jawa Pos antara lain interferensi, campur kode, serta ketidakcermatan ejaan dalam bentuk tertulis dan (2) sikap bahasa remaja ditinjau dari kesadaran akan norma bahasa.

This chapter aims at analysing the effects of social media on African society by focusing on WhatsApp usage. The chapter will; one, show how usage of WhatsApp is affecting interpersonal relationships in Africa. Two, evaluate the common uses of WhatsApp in Africa. Three, scrutinise the reasons people in Africa prefer using WhatsApp. Four, add theoretical perspectives on how social media is impacting on the communication landscape of the region. The chapter will also introduce two concepts, one; medium veracity wherein different media have varying levels of trust or credibility and two; the social media domino effect, wherein social media platforms are mutually dependent and have a symbiotic relationship. By examining why people are using WhatsApp, this chapter seeks to add to the empirical conversation on futility and the transformative potential of social media.
