The rapid development of technology today should be the main key in efforts to develop students' abilities and skills in the field of education and the learning process in dealing with the world of technology and information. The support and role of education is expected to increase the nation's competitiveness in the midst of global competition. The openness of information technology should be balanced with the progress of good reading literacy, but in Indonesia in particular, reading literacy skills for children are still at the bottom. Therefore, the development of digital literacy is expected to be a benchmark and a supporting factor in the development of student knowledge that can be accessed by digital media around the environment such as mobile phones, computers, laptops, etc. This article proposes a new conceptual framework for the concept of digital literacy, combining five types of literacy: (a) photovisual literacy; (b) reproductive literacy; (c) information literacy; (d) branched literacy; and (e) socio-emotional literacy that can support knowledge development.

Based on the assumption digital literacy needs a practical approach and actions, this chapter presents an initiative that intends to develop digital skills in a very creative way. Considering the challenge educators (for instance, teachers or librarians) face to promote digital literacy skills especially to young people in a very engaging way, some training was developed to create a possible answer to that problem. This chapter discusses the impact of that initiative that highlights the potential of humour and parody that we can find on digital media to teach digital literacy. According to some attendants, this approach was creative, engaging and built in their minds alternative paths to explore digital literacy and critical thinking.

In a high-tech environment where knowledge and information are delivered in a fast paced mode, the role of librarians serving children and young adults is being re-directed from being solely responsible for information and knowledge transfer to teaching and research. The children and young adult libraries at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina have been trying to extend their ways to deliver the services and understand the challenges in integrating various technologies. The chapter locates a series of technology competencies and skills that are currently expected of librarians working with children and young adults. In addition to their non-technical skills, librarians have to be technologically empowered and learn a variety of technical behaviors and acquire the digital skills needed to embrace the constantly changing complexities and advances in digital technology. This chapter upgrades the digital literacy skills in discipline-specific knowledge to support the integration of digital proficiencies as relevant skills for librarians to serve in their new role as teacher librarian.

It is necessary to develop digital literacy skills with which students can communicate and express their ideas effectively using digital media. The educational sectors around the world are beginning to incorporate digital literacy into the curriculum. Digital storytelling, one of the possible classroom activities, is an approach which may help engage and motivate students to learn digital literacy skills. To investigate this approach, the present small-scale study employs the methods including interviewing and analysing the artefacts of three students selected from a purposive sample on a multimedia course. The findings indicate that the three students have improved in terms of three aspects of digital literacy skills, namely, digital competence, digital usage and digital transformation regardless of their prior knowledge and levels of digital literacy.

The role of digital technology in shaping attention and cognitive development has been at the centre of public discourse for decades. The current review presents findings from three main bodies of literature on the implications of technology use for attention and cognitive control: television, video games, and digital multitasking. The aim is to identify key lessons from prior research that are relevant for the current generation of digital users. In particular, the lack of scientific consensus on whether digital technologies are good or bad for children reflects that effects depend on users’ characteristics, the form digital technologies take, the circumstances in which use occurs and the interaction between the three factors. Some features of digital media may be particularly problematic, but only for certain users and only in certain contexts. Similarly, individual differences mediate how, when and why individuals use technology, as well as how much benefit or harm can be derived from its use. The finding emerging from the review on the large degree of heterogeneity in associations is especially relevant due to the rapid development and diffusion of a large number of different digital technologies and contents, and the increasing variety of user experiences. We discuss the importance of leveraging existing knowledge and integrating past research findings into a broader organizing framework in order to guide emerging technology-based research and practice. We end with a discussion of some of the challenges and unaddressed issues in the literature and propose directions for future research.

The rapid development of computer and information technology is changing the face of the modern world, making it more and more sensitive to innovation. Changing technologies are having an increasingly rapid impact on the development of digital skills and literacy skills. The transition to a new technological order changes the gender balance of personnel in all spheres of life. Analyzing the gender dimensions of digital literacy and skills is important both from the point of view of social justice (unequal distribution of men and women in the exact and natural sciences) and from the point of view of improving the efficiency of the use of labor resources to ensure sustainable development.

Fashion was a contemporary phenomenon that increasingly developed to meet the needs of users in its digital industry era. The rapid development of fashion has made the industry compete to present the latest fashions faster and faster. The support and advances of the Internet in communication technology have helped to accelerate the spread of power through virtual networks. Digital media have brought people into a new experience, namely "post-reality", that had never existed. This study focuses on fashion consumption in the form of clothes with a fast production scale or fast-fashion along with low costs, as well as sneakers that were consumed by young people. One hundred and twenty-nine students at five universities in West Java Indonesia have interviewed. Using a qualitative method which was supported by the summary of the distribution of questionnaires, conducted throughout 2019 and early 2020, the results of this study were then analyzed using Guy Debord's theory of spectacle society. The study has found that the consumption of fast fashion and sneakers by students had an impact on their spending patterns, self-identity, self-confidence, and the role of the user as a commodity spectacle in today's fashion industry.

With some innovations brought by the age of technology and science, storytelling has also gained different dimensions. Digital storytelling has emerged with the addition of elements such as sound, video, image, effect and music to traditional storytelling and sharing these stories on digital media. In this study, it was aimed to determine the views of Turkish teachers about using digital storytelling in Turkish lessons. Case study, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The participants of the study consisted of 20 Turkish teachers who were determined through easily accessible situation sampling, one of purposeful sampling methods. The “Semi-Structured Interview Form” developed by the researchers was used to determine the teachers’ views on using digital storytelling in their lessons. Teachers’ views were analyzed through content analysis. As a result of the research, it was seen that most of the teachers did not have detailed knowledge about digital storytelling. It was determined that the digital literacy skills of teachers were not at the desired level. Teachers stated that they consider digital storytelling as a suitable teaching tool to be used in Turkish lessons, digital storytelling is an effective learning tool and that can support the development of the four basic language skills, especially listening and writing skills.
