The Law No. 21 of 2008 about Islamic banking, requires every Islamic business unit to spin-off if they have met the criterion. There are two spin-off’s methods can be selected by Islamic banks. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of spin-off method to profitability. The profitability indicator that used in this study is the return on asset. This study is using panel regression with random effect model. The result showed that spin-off method doesn’t have a significant impact on the Return On Asset (ROA) Islamic Banks from spin-off effect. Only BOPO and Non-Performing Finance (NPF) had a significant effect on Return On Asset (ROA). These results indicate that the Islamic business units that want to do the spin-off can choose one of two methods of the spin-off. The decision depends on the internal condition of Islamic business unit and the internal policies of conventional commercial banks.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of macroeconomic factors, namely the exchange rate, inflation, interest rates, and GDP per capita on third party funds in Islamic commercial banks. This research is a quantitative study with secondary data in the form of panel data. The analysis technique used is the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) multiple linear analysis method. The Hausman test results showed the right model in this study was the random effect model. All variables are significant, inflation and exchange rates have a positive effect while interest rates and GDP per capita have a negative effect on third-party funds in Islamic commercial banks. The results of this study have implications for banking businesses to determine the right time in attracting and channelling third party funds from the public. And can be a reference for issuing policies related to business. And for further researchers can be a reference to develop further research. In the next research, it is expected to be able to add other related variables besides the variables that have been examined in this study. The novelty in this study is the addition of variables that affect third party funds and also additional samples of Islamic commercial banks so that this research is expected to be more in-depth than previous research.

Purpose This study aims to spotlight and explore various determinants of Islamic social reporting (ISR) in Islamic banks of Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach The authors have used firm size, firm profitability, firm age, board size and board independence as determinants of ISR. The authors collected data from Islamic banks listed on Pakistan Stock Exchange for the period 2012–2019. Multiple estimation techniques, i.e. fixed effect model, random effect model and one-step difference generalized method of moment (GMM), have been applied. Findings Random effect model was found to be more robust as compared to fixed effect model and one-step difference GMM. The results reported by the random effect model, preferred among the three, show that firm size, firm profitability, firm age and board size are important determinants of ISR in Islamic banks of Pakistan, while board independence does not determine social reporting for Islamic banks in Pakistan. Although social reporting in annual reports of Islamic banks in Pakistan is increasing, further improvement and compliance is required to ensure accountability and transparency in financial reporting as recommended by Islamic teachings. The study has certain managerial implications, especially for top management of Islamic banks. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to discuss determinants of ISR in Islamic banks of Pakistan. The developed framework herein provides a precise guideline for Islamic banking to enhance their performance, which has never been discussed before.

Sharia-compliant companies had to add Islamic Social Reporting when disclosing Corporate Social Responsibility information due to its characteristics. Sharia-compliant companies in Indonesia still do not do this much, and it is very interesting to study, because every sharia-based entity must comply with sharia provisions in all aspects of its activities, including when compiling social reporting. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of profitability, liquidity, leverage, and an Islamic Governance Score on Islamic Social Reporting in Islamic commercial banks in Indonesia. The sampling is carried out using a purposive sampling technique for up to 10 Islamic commercial banks with a six-year observation period, so there are 60 units of analysis. The data are collected using a documentation technique. The analysis in the study uses panel data regression. Based on a Random Effect Model, the study showed that profitability and leverage do not affect Islamic Social Reporting, while liquidity and the Islamic Governance Score had an impact on the Islamic Social Reporting.
