The aims of this study are to identify the social issues which are being satirized in Emma Healey’s Whistle in The Dark and and explicate Healey’s ways in satirizing the social issues in Whistle in The Dark. The writer applies the theory of satire in order to analyze social issues in the novel.This study applied qualitative research because the writer interpreted the novel in order to answer the research questions. The data are the narrator’s narration and characters’ utterances in the novel which are taken through scanning and skimming reading technique. The data analysis was done by classifying the narrations and utterances into the types of satire, discussing the findings, and concluding.The results of this study revealed that there are several social issues in the novel that are being satirized by Emma Healey, they are; environmental racism, mother-daughter relationship, queer issue, society’s fairytale, religious issue, technology in society, high-class society, society’s judgement, work and occupation, cyber pornography, sexual behaviour, people’s dissatisfaction, people’s anxiety, women’s insecurity, and teenager’s mental illness. The most used satire in the novel is Narrative.

This article aims to illustrate how Hans du Plessis, in his novel Die pad na Skuilhoek [The path to Skuilhoek] (a place of shelter), subverts the way in which history had been presented in historical novels in the past by addressing social issues that contemporary readers find relevant. The first part of the article deals with the social codes that shape the identities of the main characters and how these identities are relevant in terms of the social framework within which the novel is received. In the second place the focus will shift towards Du Plessis’s representation of cultural and national identities. The question: ‘Who were the Afrikaners at the time of the Great Trek?’ will be answered with reference to these identities. In conclusion it will be pointed out how Du Plessis avoids dated practices of historical interpretation by choosing ecocrticism as the ideological framework for his novel and is, in this way, constructing a new social myth about the Great Trek.

The problem in this study is social impact from North Carolina citizen for the main character’s life. In the novel, Noah’s life is influenced by his social life, especially his love story with Allie. They are separated because of the difference of social class and people’s view about them who come from different status. From the result of this study found that, 1) social impact from people around to the main character in The Notebook novel, that is separating social class into three types, low class, middle class and high class, 2) social impact also influenced by the environment , which is North Carolina has beautiful view and make the people love their hometown by writing the poem, but in other side, environment makes space between people and their social status, 3) social impact is influenced by North Carolina citizen’s view who separate people based on the social class, and it makes the interaction between low class and high class is very limited, especially in relationship and marriage.

This article examines the archival documents — letters, drafts, and treaties of V. F. Odoevsky — related to his novel “Russian Nights” and dated around its publication. Odoevsky had not only preceded the writing of his novel in separate articles, but also in his numerous works, providing an insight to the content and form of his work. The reconstruction of these explanations goes together with the understanding and recognition of “Russian Nights” as a phenomenon in the unity of its problems, values, and artistic aspects. This study aims to analyze archival materials that could serve as the basis for such a reconstruction. The comprehension of a number of key concepts from the novel “Russian Nights” was made possible thanks to the connections and assessments revealed in Odoevsky’s manuscripts. They centered around the influence of German philosophy on the mood of society during that era, as well as the interaction of science, art, faith, and love. In his drafts, Odoevsky revealed in detail the nature of the social issues and relations between Russia and the West. He searched for an exact definition of skepticism and independently analyzed the image of Faust. This article shows how the collection of these archival documents complement each other, forming a single system. With this approach, the novel “Russian Nights” becomes just one of the elements of this system, leading to the general conclusion that without compiling and studying the rest of these elements, the pursuit for understanding the philosophical and artistic ideology of Odoevsky turns practically impossible.

This research is motivated by the importance of one’s actions in dealing with problem in everyday life, including the social life of the main character in the novel. This research aims to determine the forms of social behavior of the main character in the novel Aku Masenjaby Rumasi Pasaribu. Social behavior theory refers to the theory social behavior from a male expert from Germany named Maximilian Weber or often called Max Weber. The research subject used is the novel Aku Masenjaby Rumasi Pasaribu. The object this research is the social behavior of the main character based on Max Weber’s theory. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data analysis technique uses the reading technique and the note taking technique. Then the results of the data analysis are presented in descriptive form. The results of this study indicate that the dominant form of social behavior that often appears in Aku Masenja is affective social behavior in the form of falling in love, anger, sadness, and suprise. While other actions such as behavior of instrumental rationality in the form of making decision, the desire to make parents happy, and the desire to protect students who are affected by the problem of values rationality behavior in the form moral values and religious values, tradisional behavior in the form of Pasemah community groups, the customs of a tribe in Bengkulu, the use of regional languages only a few forms appear.

In this introduction, we discuss social issue research in the management and family business literatures, focusing on ethics, corporate social responsibility, and philanthropic practices of family enterprises. Next, we introduce and highlight four articles accepted for publication. The editorial concludes by presenting future research questions at the social issues—family business interface. Our review of 35 articles, as well as those included in this Special Issue, suggest that family businesses are more attuned and attentive to social issues and stakeholders than nonfamily business. Noneconomic motivations (e.g., reputation, socioemotional wealth, and stewardship) appear particularly salient to family enterprises.

This paper deals with the culture issues in Chetan Bhagat 2 States – the story of my marriage. He is one of the most popular contemporary Indian novelists in Indian English Literature. He has represented young ,modern Indian youth and culture. Different characters and incidents portrayed in the novel gives us a vibrant picture about the different culture and tradition prevailing in India. Chetan Bhagat’s novel 2 States focusses on how a particular phenomenon, the notion of love and marriage related to the concept of culture and society with its customs. The novel 2 States deals with the cross-cultural encounters and deals with different experiences . A simple but realistic novel, brilliantly explores the encounter of 2 States, Punjab and TamilNadu. 2 States: The Story of My Marriage is partly an autobiographical novel. The story is about a couple, Krish and Ananya, who hail from two different states of India, Punjab and Tamil Nadu respectively, are deeply in love and want to get married. The novelist while talking about marriage also explores the social issues like dowry in traditional marriages and the shifting paradigms of matrimonial alliances in multicultural and multinational societies. Chetan Bhagat also expresses the cultural diversities.

This study deals with the analysis of the novel Unmarriageable with reference to the (social) conflict by Soniah Kamal. The novel discusses important themes like materialism, feminism, marriages and fight against a conservative mindset etc. Thematically, the novel is very important because it deals with the conflictual aspect of present situation of Pakistani society regarding these important social issues. This is the time of advancement and liberty but the stereotypical families still force their children, especially girls to forced and unwanted marriages. This is one of the main problems that our young generation is facing. This research has been carried out using the qualitative paradigm and analysis of the text of the novel Unmarriageable. The study is limited to the analysis of themes with the help of theory of Formalism. This researcher has analyzed the novel and its main themes without going into the background, history or any personal information of the novelist because in Formalism it is all about the form, text, figures of speech, themes, cohesion, coherence and characters etc. The researcher analyzed and concluded that the writer used language, settings, characters and diction in a way that the novel disclosed and explicated these issues in influential and effective ways. There are several kinds of literary works. They are a poem, novel, fiction, drama,etc. Daisy Miller is one of the famous and popular novels. This novel is written inthe spring of London. The Author is Henry James. The writer analyzed this novel bythe sociological approach. This research applies qualitative research which thedata are taken from the analysis document and material from books and internetresearch. Data analysis concerns the interpretative technique that focuses onexamining data. The main source of this research is the novel Daisy Miller thisresearch is going to answer the research questions what is the characteristic ofdemocracy and Feudalistic is as reflected in Daisy miller novel? And what are thephenomena between democracy and Feudalistic in Daisy Miller novel? From theanalysis the author concluded that Daisy Miller is a representative of Americanwoman as same as democracy in the American Custom, She is going abroad toSwitzerland which is peaceful country inhabited by all kinds of people of differentrace, ethnic, language, skin color, religion, profession, from all over the world.The Henry James as the author showed Daisy Miller as a vulgar and as free asthe representation of American culture that has correlated with the social life. On theother hand, the author describes Mrs. Costello as a Feudalistic of Europeanculture. Mrs. Costello is a representation as European social-life that alwaysdistinguishes between high and low status and it is one of the character of Feudalism.The feudalistic was that the power of the ruling class or Aristocracy rested on theircontrol of the farmable lands, leading to a class based upon the exploitation of thepeasants who farm these lands.

This research article focuses on the theme of violence and its representation by the characters of the novel “This Savage Song” by Victoria Schwab. How violence is transmitted through genes to next generations and to what extent socio- psycho factors are involved in it, has also been discussed. Similarly, in what manner violent events and deeds by the parents affect the psychology of children and how it inculcates aggressive behaviour in their minds has been studied. What role is played by the parents in grooming the personality of children and ultimately their decisions to choose the right or wrong way has been argued. In the light of the theory of Judith Harris, this research paper highlights all the phenomena involved: How the social hierarchy controls the behaviour. In addition, the aggressive approach of the people in their lives has been analyzed in the light of the study of second theorist Thomas W Blume. As the novel is a unique representation of supernatural characters, the monsters, which are the products of some cruel deeds, this research paper brings out different dimensions of human sufferings with respect to these supernatural beings. Moreover, the researcher also discusses that, in what manner the curse of violence creates an inevitable vicious cycle of cruel monsters that makes the life of the characters turbulent and miserable.
