Centre-periphery dichotomy can be regarded as one of the crucial issues in human geography and regional science. The definition of periphery is far from unambiguous due to its relative expression and its content. This is the reason why can significant number of studies be found focusing on the delimitation of central and peripheral areas. The revolution of computer technology and the rapid development of GIS cause the more and more extended usage of these techniques in the human geography as well. These related studies were categorised by their approaches – namely the locational or developmental centreperiphery concepts – and their GIS tools. Application of spatial parameters with extended datasets and complex GIS based calculations mean the most precise and complicated use of GIS and computer tools in the delimitation of peripheral (and central) areas.

AbstractSpatial analysis studies in Palaeolithic archaeology arise as indispensable research tools for understanding archaeopalaeontological sites. In general terms, spatial studies have been specialised in the description of the distribution of materials and in the definition of accumulation areas, with the aim of distinguishing intentional activities or studying postdepositional processes. In recent decades, the development of GIS tools has enabled huge strides forward in the field of spatial archaeology research, such as spatial inferential statistics. These tools are particularly useful in the identification and location of clustering from statistical criteria, facilitating the subsequent analysis of accumulations through other archaeological, taphonomic and spatial techniques, such as fabric analysis or directional distribution. The cluster analysis, and its contextualisation considering all the archaeological and stratigraphical variables, allows the inference of some of the processes and factors that could have taken part in the accumulation of materials, as well as assessing how this affected the composition and preservation of the archaeological assemblage. The present article reviews the more traditional and innovative methods for studying horizontal distribution patterns and the objective definition of clusters, highlighting the parameters, uses and limitations of these techniques. We present an application of these methods to different Palaeolithic sites, going through different scenarios, such as location (open-air vs. cave), context, scale (large vs. small area), excavation methodology and spatial record methods.

Cities occupy only about 3% of the Earth’s surface area, but half of the global population lives in them. The high population density in urban areas requires special actions to make these areas develop sustainably. One of the greatest challenges of the modern world is to organize urban spaces in a way to make them attractive, safe and friendly to people living in cities. This can be managed with the help of a number of indicators, one of which is walkability. Of course, the most complete analyses are based on spatial data, and the easiest way to implement them is using GIS tools. Therefore, the goal of the paper is to present a new approach for measuring walkability, which is based on density maps of specific urban functions and networks of generally accessible pavements and paths. The method is implemented using open-source data. Density values are interpolated from point data (urban objects featuring specific functions) and polygons (pedestrian infrastructure) using Kernel Density and Line Density tools in GIS. The obtained values allow the calculation of a synthetic indicator taking into account the access by means of pedestrian infrastructure to public transport stops, parks and recreation areas, various attractions, shops and services. The proposed method was applied to calculate the walkability for Kraków (the second largest city in Poland). The greatest value of walkability was obtained for the Main Square (central part of the Old Town). The least accessible to pedestrians are, on the other hand, areas located on the outskirts of the city, which are intended for extensive industrial areas, single-family housing or large green areas.

With the rapid development and application of medical sensor networks, the security has become a big challenge to be resolved. Trust mechanism as a method of “soft security” has been proposed to guarantee the network security. Trust models to compute the trustworthiness of single node and each path are constructed, respectively, in this paper. For the trust relationship between nodes, trust value in every interval is quantified based on Bayesian inference. A node estimates the parameters of prior distribution by using the collected recommendation information and obtains the posterior distribution combined with direct interactions. Further, the weights of trust values are allocated through using the ordered weighted vector twice and overall trust degree is represented. With the associated properties of Tsallis entropy, the definition of path Tsallis entropy is put forward, which can comprehensively measure the uncertainty of each path. Then a method to calculate the credibility of each path is derived. The simulation results show that the proposed models can correctly reflect the dynamic of node behavior, quickly identify the malicious attacks, and effectively avoid such path containing low-trust nodes so as to enhance the robustness.

With the rapid development of computer technology, building pose estimation combined with Augmented Reality (AR) can play a crucial role in the field of urban planning and architectural design. For example, a virtual building model can be placed into a realistic scenario acquired by a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to visually observe whether the building can integrate well with its surroundings, thus optimizing the design of the building. In the work, we contribute a building dataset for pose estimation named BD3D. To obtain accurate building pose, we use a physical camera which can simulate realistic cameras in Unity3D to simulate UAVs perspective and use virtual building models as objects. We propose a novel neural network that combines MultiBin module with PoseNet architecture to estimate the building pose. Sometimes, the building is symmetry and ambiguity causes its different surfaces to have similar features, making it difficult for CNNs to learn the differential features between the different surfaces. We propose a generalized world coordinate system repositioning strategy to deal with it. We evaluate our network with the strategy on BD3D, and the angle error is reduced to [Formula: see text] from [Formula: see text]. Code and dataset have been made available at: https://github.com/JellyFive/Building-pose-estimation-from-the-perspective-of-UAVs-based-on-CNNs .

The article considers the geo-ecological situation of the Ili basin. The definition of the physical and geographical location, topography, soil and vegetation of the region was given. It was determined that the management of the efficient use of water resources in the Ili river basin depends primarily on the water resources of the rivers entering the basin and the level of Lake Balkhash. Factors determining the spring flow of the Ili River are shown. Due to the development of the middle reaches of the Ili River, the whole river ecosystem, rice fields and shangel massifs, excessive use of mineral fertilizers and chemicals has led to a decrease in the quality of river water. In addition to the shortage of water resources, anthropogenic measures related to the rapid development of agriculture affect the quality of river water. Physical and chemical studies of water samples taken from the Ili River were carried out. It was clearly observed that the content of trace elements of zinc, lead and iron in water is higher than the approved maximum allowable concentration. According to the results of the study, the effect of micronutrients on the human body was considered.
