Abstract PurposeThe Activity Impairment Assessment (AIA) is a 5 items questionnaire exploring the impact of acute cystitis on daily activities. It’s a self-administrated tool easy to use in primary care studies. The purpose of this study is to translate and validate a French version of the AIA: the AIA-fr.MethodsWe use a forward-backward translation before to analyze the psychometric properties of the French version. We proceeded to a quantitative, prospective, observational multicentric study. King Health Questionnaire and Ditrovie scale were used to determine convergent and divergent validity. Following an inclusion visit, each file was completed by the patient on day 0, 3 and 5.ResultsFifty-two files were received by the investigator of which two empty files. In the end, 50 files were included in the study. There was a 100% response rate for the AIA-fr on days 0, 3 and 5. Cronbach’s alpha was calculated at 0.87 with a 95% confidence interval between 0.78 and 0.92. We found that this coefficient was not improved by removing one of the items (Cronbach’s alpha 0.81–0.87). There is a negative correlation (p = 0.01 Rs = − 0.35) between the total AIA-fr score and the number of days between symptom onset and consultation (day 0). This implies that the higher the AIA-fr score the sooner women will seek medical care.ConclusionsThe French version of the AIA is a psychometrically acceptable self-report questionnaire for measuring the impact of acute cystitis on daily activities. It’s the first French tool evaluating this impact.

<b><i>Background:</i></b> The incidence of dementia is increasing dramatically worldwide. It is important to determine knowledge about the dementia for it’s prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, and care. The psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Dementia Knowledge Assessment Scale (DKAS-T) were evaluated in this study. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> The psychometric study was conducted. A total of 1592 participants were recruited between November 2019 and March 2020. The data were collected using a sociodemographic form and DKAS-T. The language and content validity, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to assess the validity of the scale. The scale’s reliability was obtained using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, a paired sample <i>t</i>-test, item-total score correlation, and Hotelling’s <i>T</i>-squared test. <b><i>Results:</i></b> The mean age of the sample was 29.38 (±11.50) years; 66.8% (<i>n</i> = 1064) were female, and 54.1% (<i>n</i> = 861) reported their income status as income equal to expenditure. The DKAS-T demonstrated content validity and adequate sensitivity (Kendall <i>W</i> = 0.155, <i>p</i> = 0.093). The scale consisted of seventeen items and was unidimensional, which explained 28.705% of the variance. All the factor loadings were found to be &#x3e;0.30 in factor analysis. In CFA, all of the fit indexes were &#x3e;0.95 and root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) was 0.033. A Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.836 was obtained for the entire scale. It was determined that the scale has invariance according to time (<i>t</i> = −1.362, <i>p</i> = 0.181). Homogeneity of the scale was 3.26%, and there was no absence of reaction bias (Hotelling’s <i>T</i>-squared = 2573.681, <i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001). <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> The results demonstrated that the instrument is reliable and generates valid data for the Turkish sample. This scale can be used to determine knowledge about dementia and planning educational interventions in the issue.

ObjectivesTo develop and validate a Patient-Centred Quality of Cancer Care Questionnaire in Spanish (PCQCCQ-S) appropriate to the Mexican context.DesignPsychometric validation of a questionnaire.SettingTwo public oncology hospitals in Mexico City.Participants1809 patients with cancer aged ≥18 years.Source of informationCross-sectional survey.MethodsThe validation procedures comprised (1) content validity through a group of experts and patients; (2) item reduction and evaluation of the factor structure, through an exploratory factor analysis based on the polychoric correlation matrix; (3) internal consistency using Cronbach’s alpha; (4) convergent validity between the PCQCCQ-S and supportive care needs scale; (5) correlation analysis between the PCQCCQ-S and quality of life scale by calculating Spearman’s rank-correlation coefficient; and (6) differentiation by ‘known groups’ through the Wilcoxon rank-sum test.ResultsThe PCQCCQ-S has 30 items with the following five factors accounting for 96.5% of the total variance: (1) timely care; (2) clarity of the information; (3) information for treatment decision-making; (4) activities to address biopsychosocial needs; and (5) respectful and coordinated care. Cronbach’s alpha values ranged from 0.73 to 0.90 among the factors. PCQCCQ-S has moderate convergent validity with supportive care needs scale, revealing that higher quality is correlated with lower patient needs. PCQCCQ-S has acceptable ability to differentiate by ‘known groups’, showing that older patients and those with low levels of education perceived lower total quality of care as compared with their counterparts.ConclusionPCQCCQ-S has acceptable psychometric properties and can be used to measure quality of patient-centred cancer care in Mexico and serve as a reference to develop PCQCCQ-S in other Spanish-speaking countries.

Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dampak HIV pada anak masih terkonsentrasi pada gangguan fungsi fisik, fungsi psikologis, dan gejala terkait HIV.Kata kunci: Instrumen pengukuran, anak terinfeksi HIV, kualitas hidupAbstractChildren with HIV/AIDS in Indonesia are increasing due to the increase of woman with HIV. A special instrument for measuring quality of life (QoL) of children with HIV is needed to be developed as the great impact of the infection to children. This study was conducted by modifying the existing QoL instrument of children for Indonesian context. The study indicated that thereliability of the instrument is quite good both for children under 5 and 5 – 11 years old. Reliability values (Cronbach’s Alpha) for under 5, domains of physical function, social function, and HIV-related symptoms are 71, 72, and 88 respectively while for children 5 – 11 years old, domains of physical, psychological, social, and school functions, and HIV-related symptoms are 76, 89, 67, 67, and 88 respectively. The study showed, for Indonesian context, 15% of CD4 is indicated as the threshold to detect the difference of QoL forchildren with HIV. However, for under 5 years old, only questions of HIV-related symptoms domain which is sensitive to detect difference QoL, whereas for children of 5 – 11 years old, the questions concerning physical and psychological domains which are sensitive to detect difference QoL. The study indicated that the impact of HIV on children is mostly on physical andpsychological functions and HIV-related symptoms.Key words: Measurement instrument, children with HIV, quality of life

A new construct, termed music receptivity, is introduced and discussed in this work. Music receptivity can be defined as a measure of the extent of internalization that an individual has, to a given piece of music, as measured at the point of listening. Through three studies, we demonstrate the psychometric properties of the construct—the Music Receptivity Scale (MRS). Exploratory factor analysis on a sample of 313 revealed good psychometric validity, with a four-factor solution (emotional experience, interest, attention, and hurdles), with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.89, and a two-factor solution (emotion experience and attention), with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.87. The tool also had a good test–retest reliability (r = 0.87 for a 15 day interval and r = 0.91 for 1 month interval). Overall, the tool had 20 items in the long form and 12 items in the short version. The MRS could distinguish musicians and non-musicians supporting its discriminant validity. We have also discussed the implication of the MRS in the field of music psychology.

This article describes the cross-cultural adaption and psychometric testing of the Family Nursing Practice Scale (FNPS) German version. The FNPS aims to examine self-reported family nursing practice skills and reciprocity in the nurse–family relationship. Using a cross-sectional design, 583 acute and critical care nurses were invited to complete the FNPS German version. Exploratory factor analysis was used to assess the structural validity. Internal consistency was determined using Cronbach’s alpha. A total of 317 nurses returned a completed online questionnaire. Principal axis factor analysis suggests a one-factor solution in which all 10 items are retained, accounting for 36% of the variance. Cronbach’s alpha was .84. In contrast to the original version, our findings indicate the unidimensionality of the construct. The FNPS German version appears to be a valid and reliable scale to assess nurses’ perception of their family nursing practice proficiency. Further testing is needed to confirm the unidimensionality and to establish test–retest reliability.

This study is conducted to investigate the impact levels of determinants on performance of accountants in enterprises in Vietnam. Data were collected from getting 205 questionnaires from firms doing businesses in Vietnam. Based on the data collected, we use Cronbach’s Alpha, EFA and run regression model for knowing the impact levels of each independent variable on dependent variable of accountant performance. The results show that four determinants including accounting framework (PL), job satisfaction (HL), supports from firms (HT), confidence of accountants (ST) have positive relationships with accountant performance. Based on the findings, some recommendations are given for improving accountant performances of firms doing business in the context of Vietnam.

Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between personality traits and attitudes toward learning communication skills in undergraduate medical students. The relation between students’ attitudes and personality trait could help us identify those who those who will need more support to develop communication skills, based on their personality traits. Methods: The data was collected data from an intentional and cross-sectional sample composed of 204 students from three Brazilian universities. The students answered questionnaires containing the Communication Skills Attitude Scale (CSAS-BR) and the Big Five Mini-Markers (BFMM) for personality. Data were analyzed using frequency calculations, principal components analysis, and the multiple linear regression model. Results: Seven among 26 items of the original Communication Skills Attitude Scale (CSAS) presented factor loads lower than |0.30| and must be excluded in the CSAS -BR that showed one domain including positive and negative attitudes. The value of Cronbach’s alpha of the 19-item scale was 0.894. The BFMM showed similar dimensional results with five domains with Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.804 for Extroversion, 0.753 for agreeableness, 0.755 for conscientiousness, 0.780 for neuroticism and 0.668 for openness. There were positive and statically significant linear associations with the CSAS-BR and agreeableness (β: 0.230, p<0.001), extraversion (β: 0.150, p=0.030), and openness to experience (β: 0.190, p=0.010). These personality factors drive social interactions and interpersonal relations, which involve the tendency to be friendly, flexible, and cooperative; to show a willing disposition; and the ability to actively engage with others. Conclusions: Based on the methods applied in this study, the results demonstrated a relation between agreeableness, extraversion and openness to experience with attitudes on communication skills in students from three Brazilian universities. Our results suggest that the evaluation of personality traits can contribute to the recognition of students for whom the establishment of special teaching strategies can improve communication skills.

Background: Stroke causes a wide variety of clinical manifestations that may have a negative impact on quality of life. Therefore, it is very important to use specific instruments for measuring quality of life in individuals who suffered a stroke. The aim of this study was to develop a psychometrically validated Spanish version of the Newcastle stroke-specific quality of life measure (NEWSQOL). Methods: A psychometric validation of the Spanish version of the NEWSQOL questionnaire was carried out in 159 patients. The reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient), validity (factorial analysis and Spearman’s coefficient), feasibility (response rate), and the ceiling and floor effects were calculated. Results: Internal consistency showed that Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.93. The test–retest reliability was high or excellent for all domains (range 0.71–0.97 p < 0.001). The response rate of the questionnaire was 100% and the average administration time was 20.5 (±7.2) min. No ceiling effect was detected and two domains (pain and vision) may have a significant potential for floor effect. Construct validity showed that all the variables are important enough to keep them all in the questionnaire. Concerning convergent construct validity, a high correlation was found with the Nottingham Health Profile, the Barthel Index, and the Modified Rankin Scale. Conclusion: The Spanish version of the NEWSQOL questionnaire is reliable, valid, and feasible to evaluate quality of life in the Spanish population.

Rationale, aims and objectives: Patient-centered care (PCC) is widely acknowledged as a central component of high-quality health care and it has been associated with many positive outcomes for patients. Although many studies support the benefits of PCC, the style of practice may vary from a caregiver to another. To measure PCC and investigate the factors that may be related to this concept, it is necessary to have rigorous instruments. Thus, the aim of this study was to adapt and validate a French version of the PPOS (F-PPOS) for the assessment of PCC in both nurses and physicians who work with chronic pain patients.Method: The PPOS was translated and validated in a French population of nurses and physicians according to the Hébert methodological recommendations for translation and validation. The final version of the F-PPOS was distributed to 21 nurses and 21 physicians working with chronic pain patients. The content validity and the internal consistency were assessed. Results: The expert panel was satisfied with the content validity of this instrument. The internal consistency was acceptable for the total score for all participants (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.60), for nurses (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.62) and for physicians (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.54). The F-PPOS showed good content validity and acceptable internal consistency. Conclusions: The F-PPOS could be used in future studies in French populations, in both nurses and physicians. This instrument can also be used to compare the type of approach between caregivers in worldwide since it is available in several languages.
