Background: Hamstring Strain is common among athletes which lead to development of injury. Superficial Backline stretching for improving range of motion and flexibility. Using Tennis ball is a form of self-myofascial release results in increasing range of motion. Literature lacks studies done on self- myofascial release and superficial backline stretching. Hence my intention towards this study in comparison to find out the effect of Self Myofascial Release using tennis ball and superficial backline stretching on hamstring strain in cricket players. Methodology: A total of 24 subjects who were between the age group of 15 -19 years were conveniently allocated based on the inclusion criteria. Subjects received self-myofascial release using tennis ball 60 sec with 3-4 repetitions and 1 min interval of rest between sessions and superficial backline stretching with different poses for 2-3 repetitions and then compared FMS score of all subjects pre and post intervention after giving the superficial backline stretches and myofascial release to all the subjects. Outcome measure: Functional movement screen (FMS) Results: The result shows that there is a significant difference in pre and post Score of FMS, pre-FMS score is 15.9167±2.60295 and post score increased to 19.2500±1.59483which shows thatthere is statistical and clinical difference between the pre and post intervention. Functional movement is measured as the primary outcome measure.There is an average improvement of 3.333 with t value 12.487 and p <0.05. Conclusion: The aim of the study was to compare and find out the effect of Self Myofascial Release using tennis ball and superficial backline stretching on hamstring strain in cricket players., the result showed that there is statistically significant self-myofascial release using tennis ball and superficial backline stretching.

AbstractBiomechanical imbalances and inefficient functional movements are considered contributing factors to running-related injuries. Clinical Pilates uses a series of exercises focused on retraining normal movement patterns. This study investigated whether a 6-week course of Clinical Pilates improves functional movement and thereby, potentially, reduces the risk of running-related injuries associated with movement dysfunction. A modified functional movement screen was used to analyze the functional movement ability of forty runners. Forty participants completed a 6-week course of Clinical Pilates delivered by a Clinical Pilates instructor. The movement screen was carried out 3 times for each runner: 6 weeks pre-intervention (baseline), within one week pre-intervention (pre) and within one week post-intervention (post). Repeated-measures analysis of variance and post-hoc tests found significant increases in scores between baseline and post (mean±SD; 13.4±2.4 vs. 17.0±1.7, p<0.01) and pre and post (mean±SD; 13.5±2.5 vs. 17.0±1.7, p<0.01), but no significant difference between baseline and pre (p=0.3). A 6-week course of Clinical Pilates significantly improves functional movement in recreational runners, and this may lead to a reduction in the risk of running-related injuries.

Movement assessments are commonly used to assess athlete&rsquo;s risk of injury as well as basic and specific skill movement patterns; however, dance is identified to be differing from sports because the average dancer&rsquo;s training load is higher than the athletes. This study aims to identify the difference in the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) level among traditional dancers in Malaysia. A quasi-experimental study design was adopted, which involved 66 dancers (M = 33; F = 33). The study comprised traditional dancers from three ethnic backgrounds, namely, Malay, Chinese and Indian. The descriptive analysis described the level of the dancers&rsquo; FMS, as follows: Malay (M = 16.18, SD = 2.062), Chinese (M = 18.50, SD = 1.102), Indian (M = 18.23, SD = 1.445). The ANOVA analysis found a significant difference in the FMS scores among all three groups of dancers, F (2,63) = 14.026, p &gt;.000. The deep squat, hurdle step, shoulder mobility, active straight leg raise and trunk stability tests for push-up indicated a significant difference, whereas the inline lunges test and rotational stability tests showed no significance difference. However, the Post Hoc analysis showed no significant difference between the Chinese and Indian dancers. It can be concluded that there is a difference in FMS scores between Malay, Chinese and Indian dancers. FMS may be a useful tool to help identify dancers about the risk of injury and improve their movement quality.

Context Predicting and promoting physical performance are important goals within the tactical professional community. Movement screens are frequently used in this capacity but are poor predictors of performance outcomes. It has recently been shown that prediction improved when movement quality was evaluated under load, but the mechanisms underlying this improvement remain unclear. Because balance, range of motion, and strength are mutually relevant to physical performance and movement quality, these attributes may mediate load-related decreases in movement quality and account for the resulting increase in performance prediction. Objective To quantify the roles of balance, range of motion, and strength in mediating load-related decreases in clinical movement-screen scores. Design Crossover study. Setting Research laboratory. Patients or Other Participants Twenty-five male (age = 23.96 ± 3.74 years, height = 178.82 ± 7.51 cm, mass = 79.66 ± 12.66 kg) and 25 female (age = 22.00 ± 2.02 years, height = 165.40 ± 10.24 cm, mass = 63.98 ± 11.07 kg) recreationally active adults. Intervention(s) Participants completed a clinical movement screen under a control condition and while wearing an 18.10-kg weighted vest as well as tests of balance, range of motion, and strength. Main Outcome Measure(s) Item score differences were assessed using Wilcoxon signed rank tests for matched pairs. Interactions between (1) balance, range of motion, and strength and (2) load condition were modeled using penalized varying-coefficients regression with item scores as the dependent measure. Results Except for the hurdle step, item scores were lower in the weighted-vest than in the control condition for all tests (P &lt; .05). Except for rotary stability, F statistics were significant for all models (P values &lt; .05, R2 values = 0.22–0.77). Main effects of balance, range of motion, and strength on Functional Movement Screen scores were observed (P &lt; .05); however, little evidence was found to suggest that these attributes mediated load-related decreases in Functional Movement Screen item scores. Conclusions Balance, range of motion, and strength affected movement quality but did not mediate the effect of the load treatment.

SummaryIntroduction: The aim of the study was to evaluate whether our own twelve-week Sensorimotor Exercise Programme (SEP) affected FMS results in canoe slalom athletes. The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a tool for detecting asymmetries and movement range limitations in order to prevent sport injuries. The screen evaluates mobility and stability in seven fundamental movement patterns.Material and methods: The study population consisted of 16 athletes from the Canoe Slalom National Team of Poland who competed in three sports categories: kayak single, canoe single, canoe double. The athletes, 13 men and 3 women, undertook the FMS screen twice before the starting season. Between the first and the second screen the athletes undertook a twelve-week long sensorimotor training programme.Results: The result analysis showed a statistically significant difference in FMS results. The mean FMS screen result after twelve weeks of training increased from 16.6 points to 19.6 points.Conclusions: An adequately designed SEP can lead to an improvement in athlete movement patterns. The FMS screen allows for assessment of changes in athlete movement patterns after twelve weeks of SEP training.

Background and Study Aim. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of functional movement screen and lower extremity training on hamstring/quadriceps (H/Q) ratio in football players. Material and Methods. 11 players from Sivas Belediyespor, affiliated to the Turkish Football Federation, participated in this study. The average age of the players involved in the study was 25.75±4.45, height averages 178.49±8.72 cm, and body weight averages 69.83±6.47 kg. Players who participated in the study had previously suffered a knee area injury. In addition to team training for 8 weeks, extra exercises to strengthen their hamstring and quadriceps muscles were conducted 3 times a week. Isokinetic force tests and Functional Movement Screen (FMS) tests were conducted in the study. Data obtained were evaluated in SPSS package 24 program. Results: There was a significant difference in the total score of FMS at the level of p<0.05. Deep squat 13.5%, hurdle step 10.49%, in line lunge 9%, shoulder mobility 3.44%, active straight 6.84%, trunk stability push up 6.84%, rotatuar stability 14.73% and FMS total score 17.24% showed improvement. There was a significant difference in the H/Q ratio between both the right knee and left knee pre-test and post-test at p<0.01 level. The right knee developed at a rate of 600 H/Q at a rate of 17.24% and the left knee developed at a rate of 600 H/Q. Conclusions: As a result, 8 weeks of extra lower extremity exercises can be said to increase the H/Q ratio of football players. It is also seen that the FMS score has increased. Thus, it is thought that the risk of football players having a sports injury again is reduced.

Aim: Pilates exercises were introduced by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. These exercises are based on 5 basic principles; centering, concentration, sensitivity, flow and respiration. All pilates exercises are applied with core stabilization. Functional Movement Screen (FMS™) is a screening system that shows functional deficiencies. The aim of our study was to investigate the effect of 12-week pilates group exercise training on functional movement scores in women. Secondarily; posture, depression level and quality of life were evaluated. Methods: 30 women were included in the study between 30-50 years of age. Primarly, Functional Movement Screen (FMS™) (Deep squat, Hurdle step, In line lunge, Shoulder mobility, Active leg raise, Trunk stability push-up, Rotation stability) secondarily; New York Posture Analysis Scale, Beck Depression Scale and Short Form 36(SF-36) were used. Pilates exercises were applied by a physiotherapist. The exercises continued for three sessions per week for 12 weeks. The evaluations were repeated before exercise and just after finish of the exercise. Results: Statistical significant difference was found in FMS total score, New York Posture Analysis Scale and SF-36 subscores except general health parameter. Conclusion: Participating in Pilates exercises can improve functional status, posture and health related quality of life.

This study was conducted to compare the functional movement patterns of female volleyball players from different countries. 34 the women&rsquo;s volleyball national team athletes from three different countries participated in the study; Turkey (n=9), Azerbaijan (n=16) and Kyrgyzstan (n=9). Functional movement screen of the athletes were determined by the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) test kit. The Kruskal-Wallis H Test was used for multiple comparisons from nonparametric tests in determining the difference between functional movement patterns of national teams. At the end of the study, it was determined that the FMS total scores of the teams were higher than 14 points which were considered as critical limits and there was no statistically significant difference between the FMS total scores of the teams (p&lt;0.05). However, there were significant differences between the teams in the hurdle step, shoulder clearing test and shoulder mobility tests which formed the FMS test battery. As a conclusion, the fact that volleyball players in each country have more than 14 points of FMS total score, which is the critical limit, shows that volleyball players have low risk of injury. This may be related to the elite level of volleyball players and the implementation of correct training models.

Abstract Background Pre-participation examinations are the standard approach for assessing poor movement quality that would increase musculoskeletal injury risk. On the other hand, the neuromuscular control plays a significant role in the prevention of injury and rehabilitation. The main purpose of this study was to determine the effect of an 8-week neuromuscular training on functional movement screen (FMS) in injury-prone military athletes. Methods In the present quasi-experimental study, forty injury-prone male military athlete were identified by functional movement Screen. Functional Movement screen were assessed before and after the 8-week program. Participants were placed into 1 of the 2 groups: intervention (n = 20) and control (n = 20). The intervention group was required to complete a neuromuscular training program that met 3 times per week for 8-week. Data analysis was done using the independent t-test and analysis of covariance at the significant level of p < 0.05. Results The comparison of total FMS score indicated a significant difference (P < 0.05 and effect size = 0.83) between intervention (17.75 ± 1.55) and control (11 ± 1.55) groups. A significant improvement in mobility (p < 0.05 and effect size = 0.39), stability (p < 0.05 and effect size = 0.77) and advanced movement (p < 0.05 and effect size = 0.75) were also found. Conclusion An 8-week neuromuscular training program enhances functional movement screen in military athletes. It seems that this training program can minimize injury risk in injury-prone individuals.

Introduction: Knee Osteoarthritis is a condition that frequently occurs in elderly which has a major impact on the elderly’s disability. As a degenerative disease, knee osteoarthritis occurs due to cartilage damage which is then accompanied by inflammation, pain, stiff joints and muscles thereby limiting the range of motion. This research aims to compare the effect of Kinesio taping and a combination of myofascial release and Kinesio taping intervention on ROM improvement in elderly with knee osteoarthritis.Methods: This study applies a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent group approach. Goniometer is applied as a measurement instrument. 25 people participated in this study who were recruited through purposive sampling. The sample was then divided into 2 groups which were given treatment 3 times a week in one month. The control group with Kinesio Taping treatment consisted of 14 samples and the case group with a combination treatment of myofacial release and Kinesio taping consisted of 11 samples. Furthermore, data analysis was performed with the Shapiro Wilk test, Wilcoxon rank test, and the Mann-Whitney test using SPSS version 25.Results: The comparison test results show that the significance value of p yields 0.6> 0.05, therefore H1 is rejected, and H0 is accepted. The interpretation of these results is that there is no significant difference between the effects of Kinesio taping and the combination of myofacial release and Kinesio taping on increasing ROM in the elderly with the risk of knee osteoarthritis.Conclusion: This study shows that there is no significant difference in the effect of the treatment of Kinesio taping and the combination of myofacial release and Kinesio taping in increasing ROM in the elderly with osteoarthritis.

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of 8-week corrective exercises applied to 12-15 age group basketball players on Functional Movement Screen Test (FMS) and motor skill (MS) score. 65 volunteer children between the ages of 12-15 participated in the study. The children were the control group (CG) (N = 25) who did not do any exercise, the basketball group that only trained basketball (BG) (N = 20), and the corrective exercise group (CEG) (N = 20) that did corrective exercises in addition to basketball training. It is divided into 3 groups. Basketball training was applied to children on BG 3 days a week. In addition to basketball training, an 8-week corrective exercise protocol was applied to the children in CEG. Functional movement patterns of children were determined with FMS test and MSs with Deutscher Motor Test (DMT). Kruskal-Wallis H Test was used to determine the differences children's pre-tests and post-tests after corrective exercises. As a result of the statistical analysis, a statistically significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-tests of FMS total scores and DMT scores in CEG (p<0.05). As a result, it has been shown that corrective exercises contribute to FMS total scores and the MS development of children. Özet   Bu çalışmasının amacı, 12-15 yaş grubu basketbolculara uygulanan 8 haftalık düzeltici egzersizlerin fonksiyonel hareket tarama testi (FHT) ve motor beceri (MB) puanı üzerine etkisinin incelenmesidir. Çalışmaya 12-15 yaş arası 65 gönüllü çocuk katılmıştır. Çocuklar herhangi bir egzersiz yapmayan kontrol grubu (KG) (N=25), sadece basketbol antrenmanı yapan basketbol grubu (BG) (N=20) ve basketbol antrenmanına ilaveten düzeltici egzersiz yapan düzeltici egzersiz grubu (DEG) (N=20) olmak üzere 3 gruba ayrılmıştır. BG’da bulunan çocuklara haftada 3 gün sadece basketbol antrenmanı, DEG’da bulunan çocuklara basketbol antrenmanlarına ilaveten 8 haftalık düzeltici egzersiz protokolü uygulanmıştır. Çocukların fonksiyonel hareket kalıpları FHT testi ile MB’leri Deutscher Motor Testi (DMT) ile belirlenmiştir. Çocukların FHT skorları ve DMT skorlarının ön testleri ile düzeltici egzersizler sonrası son testleri arasındaki farkı belirlemede Wilcoxon İşaretli Sıralar Testi kullanılmıştır. İstatiksel analizler sonucunda, DEG’da FHT toplam skorları ve DMT skorları ön test ile son testleri arasında istatiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmuştur (p<0,05). Sonuç olarak düzeltici egzersizlerin FHT toplam skorlarına ve çocukların MB gelişimine katkı sağladığı gösterilmiştir. Düzeltici egzersizlerin antrenman içeriklerine yerleştirilmesinin çocukların MB’lerini artırabileceği düşünülmektedir.
