Enterolobium schomburgkii (monkey ear) is important Amazonic forest specie, being used for wood and medicinal purposes and environmental recuperation issues. Biological treatment such as Trichoderma fungus is alternative method that may improve performance of seeds germination and provide healthy seedlings. We aimed to assess effect of Trichoderma fungus on development of E. schomburgkii seedlings. Five isolates of Trichoderma spp., in the concentration of 1.0 x 107 conidia.mL-1, were assessed and applied through four methods: seeds; pre-planting substrate; post-planting substrate; and seed + pre-planting + post-planting substrate. The seedlings were produced in polypropylene bags and kept in nursery for 10 months. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 5x4+1 factorial scheme, with 10 repetitions. We monthly assessed the plant height, collar diameter and number of leaves and leaflets. After 10 months, we assessed root length, dry matter of aerial part and dry matter of roots system. The results showed that variables were significantly influenced by Trichoderma isolates and its application modes, either individually or under interaction, except on the root length. Eight treatments boosted the plants height and five of them increased the collar diameter, compared with the control. The height of the seedlings was the variable that mostly influenced by the treatments. Application of Trichoderma in pre-planting substrate influenced the highest number of variables analyzed. Therefore, the isolates application used in this work is feasible for production of Enterolobium schomburgkii seedlings. Based on results of this experiment we do not recommended treatment of Enterolobium schomburgkii seeds with Trichoderma isolates, except using T. asperellum T09

The Medicilândia municipality is the main dried cocoa beans producer in Pará state, however, researches are being carried out in relation to the seedlings production. The study objective was to study the cacao seminal seedlings growth under a drip irrigation system, receiving different nitrogen doses with fixed doses of phosphorus (4,5 g) and potassium (3 g) through fertirrigation. The experiment was realized under greenhouse conditions with four treatments and five repetitions in a design of randomized blocks, being each composed by seven plants. Thus, T1 = check, without fertilization; T2 = 2 g of N + P and K; T3 = 7 g of N + P and K; T4 = 12 g of N + P and K. The treatments were scientific from the 31st to the 156th day after sowing, where the values of height, collar diameter and leaves number were obtained fortnightly. On the 156th day, the plants were harvested and obtained the root length, fresh matter and aerial part dry matter and root and the nutritional contents from the leaf and root plant tissue. The plants obtain results with the highest values of height, collar diameter and leaves number in the T2 treatment.

Abstract Adenium obesum (Forssk.) Roem. & Schult., widely known as desert rose, has attracted interest for its esthetic characteristics, which are influenced by the process of seedling production. Using two consecutive experiments installed fully at random, the study aimed at assessing the use of different substrates and hydrogel to produce desert rose seedlings in a protected environment. First, eleven substrates were tested, prepared as follows: OrganoAmazon®; PuroHumus®; soil; rice husk in natura; carbonized rice husk, sawdust and cattle manure. Then, three substrates were tested (S1 - OrganoAmazon® + PuroHumus®; S2 - OrganoAmazon® + PuroHumus® + rice husk in natura and S3 - OrganoAmazon® + PuroHumus® + carbonized rice husk) associated to four hydrogel levels: 0 (daily irrigation), 1, 2 and 3 g L−1 (irrigated on alternate days). Growth variables and quality index of seedlings were assessed. Six substrates (all of them without addition of sawdust and where used in mix) were grouped as those the promoted appropriate growth of seedlings, with height, number of leaves, collar diameter, root length and aerial part biomass superior to 6.5 cm; 13; 12 mm; 7.5 cm and 0.45 g, respectively. The substrate composed of OrganoAmazon® + PuroHumus® (1:1 v/v), when irrigated daily, was the one that favored most the production of quality seedlings. The use of hydrogel in substrates with shifts of irrigation on alternate days did not favor the production of desert rose seedlings.

The application of Trichoderma fungus can be used to obtain seedlings of higher quality for plantations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of Trichoderma isolates on the germination and initial growth of açaí seedlings. Two trials were set up. In the laboratory, the seeds were inoculated in suspensions prepared with each of the isolates for 24 h, and they were arranged in trays containing filter paper in a completely randomized design with five replicates containing 50 seeds each. For the control, the seeds were submerged only in water. Part of the seedlings resulting from seeds treated and not treated with Trichoderma were transferred to bags containing forest soil and were submitted to seven modes of application of Trichoderma and kept in a nursery. The speed of germination and hypocotyl were not influenced by the biological treatment. The application of the different Trichoderma isolates positively influenced the height, collar diameter, number of leaves, root size, leaf area and root, and aerial part dry mass of the açaí seedlings. The application of the Trichoderma isolate TAM01 on the preplanting substrate and biweekly applications on the postplanting substrate was the combination that most positively influenced the development of açai seedlings.

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of seed coating with Si in response to infection in a cultivar susceptible and resistant to Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, on the physiological and health potential of seeds and seedlings, during the initial development of bean culture. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomizeddesign, in a 2 × 2 × 2 factorial scheme, with four replications, where the factors were: cultivar (BRS Esplendor and IPR Tuiuiú), silicate application (with and without Agrosilício® coating) and inoculation (seeds inoculated or not with C. lindemuthianum). In the evaluation of the initial development of the culture, the following variables were measured: germination, first count of the germination test, emergence, emergence speed index (IVE), total seedling length, shoot and root length, total dry mass, aerial part dry matter, root dry matter and aerial part dry matter at 15 days after sowing (DAS). The incidence of C. lindemuthianumin beans was determined by the paper roll method. Covering the seeds with Si reduces the incidence and severity of C. lindemuthianumand provides greater growth of bean seedlings. The effect of responses potentiated by Si is more expressive in the cultivar of greater susceptibility.

The Cerrado has fruit species of great potential of use in commercial systems of agricultural production. They are obliged to carry out studies on the production of seedlings, contributing to a perpetuation of these species. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different substrates and different doses of Basacote® on the emergence and early development of B. gaudichaudii plants. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in the experimental area of the Goiano Federal Institute-Campus Ceres. Experiment 1 was composed of six treatments (six compositions) and experiment 2 consisted of 5 treatments (five doses of Basacote®). The experimental design was a randomized complete block with four replicates and 12 plants per experimental plot. The variables analyzed were emergence, height, lap diameter, number of leaves, root system length, survival rate and fresh and dry matter of the aerial part and root system. The substrate composed of bovine manure + Plantmax® + soil provides better conditions for growth and development of mamacadella plants. The mamacadela seedlings do not tolerate high levels of organic matter in the substrate. For the production of Brosimum gaudichaudii seedlings the use of the 6.48 g dose of Basacote® plant-1 is indicated.

Guarana (Paullinia cupana var. Sorbilis (Mart.) Ducke) is a species native from Amazon which has high caffeine concentration. The interactions between guarana and microorganisms in Amazonian soils need to be investigated, especially in relation to the seedling production process, due to its beneficial relationships such as biosynthesis and the supply of stimulating substances, which may result in shortening of the nursery garden or increased productivity. Thus, this research had the objective of evaluating the potential of growth caused by rhizobacteria (Burkholderia ambifaria and Bacillus sp.) in rooting of guarana seedlings. The root length, volume, dry matter of the aerial part, height, number of leaves, leaf area and dry matter of shoot were evaluated at 180 days after planting emergence. Were also determined the carbohydrate and proline content of the aerial part. The rhizobacteria did not influence the growth of the seedlings, however, the carbohydrate contents were higher when the inoculation of the rhizobacteria was carried out with the Burkholderia ambifaria bacteria in the cultivar BRS-Amazonas, with the best results. The proline levels were higher in the control treatment of the two cultivars.

The size of the container can affect the quality of the seedlings and, there is no recommendation of containers for the formation of flamboyant seedlings [Delonix regia (Bojerex Hook.) Raf]. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the production of flamboyant seedlings in different container sizes, besides performing trail analysis to identify the growth variables that characterize the quality of these seedlings. The experimental design was a randomized block design with seven container sizes (13 × 13 cm, 15 × 15 cm, 13 × 20 cm, 15 × 25 cm, 17 × 22 cm, 17 × 30 cm or 30 × 40 cm), with four replicates. Each experimental unit was composed of five containers, totaling 20 containers per treatment. The plant height, stem base diameter, number of leaves and the sturdiness quotient were measured at 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 days after emergence (DAE), and at 100 DAE were also measured the root volume, root dry matter, shoot dry matter, total dry matter, shoot/root dry matter ratio and Dickson quality index (DQI). The flamboyant seedlings have better grow when cultivated in polyethylene bags with size of 30 × 40 cm. The collar diameter, root volume, root dry matter, shoot dry matter and total dry matter are the most adequate variables to indicate the quality of flamboyant seedlings. However, because it is a rapid, simple and non-destructive measurement variable, the root collar diameter is more adequate to identify high-quality flamboyant seedlings.

BECKMANN-CAVALCANTE, M. NUTRITIVE SOLUTIONS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF POTTED CHRYSANTHEMUM  2 ABSTRACT             Although the information about nutritive solution for potted chrysanthemum is still incongruent, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of nutritive solutions in the development ofMiramarchrysanthemum cultivated in pots at FCAV-UNESP, Jaboticabal-SP. The experiment had a randomized block design with split-plot evaluation and treatments corresponding to four nutritive solutions consisting of commercial fertilizers (S1, S2, S3, S4) evaluated at 0, 14, 28, 42, 56 and 70 days after rooting (DAE), with five replications. The plant height, leaf area, number of leaves, stem diameter, total dry matter mass of aerial part and roots; number and diameter of inflorescences, and physiological indexes of growth analysis were evaluated. The nutritive solutions did not interfere significantly in stem diameter, number and diameter of inflorescences and dry matter of roots, although S3 and S4 provided the highest plants, leaf area, number of leaves, total dry matter of aerial part. The physiological indexes showed that plants presented an accelerated growth from 14 to 28 DAE with S4 and S3 solutions and therefore they were considered  the best solutions. KEYWORDS: Dendranthema grandiflora Tzvelev., physiological indexes, mineral nutrition.

Tomato is one of the most important plant species from an economic and social point of view. Nowadays, there is a growing interest in the use of beneficial microorganisms in agriculture, and some of them are being commercialized as biopesticidal and biofertilizer formulations. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of twenty (20) Trichoderma isolates to stimulate seed germination, colonize the roots, and promoting growth on tomato seedlings. In laboratory tests, it was possible to observe germination induction and longer root length, in addition to greater length of hypocotyls. However, in some cases, the presence of cotyledon lesions in the seedlings was observed, but without interference in the number and vigor of seedlings from inoculated seeds. In the greenhouse, the action of isolates as growth promoters was verified, due to the increase in the weight and length of roots and the aerial part of tomato plants. Twelve isolates were selected for the rhizocompetence assay, in which the ability to colonize the rhizosphere and also the plant rhizoplane was observed. None of the tests showed negative results in the evaluated parameters.

ABSTRACT The objective was to determine the growth and accumulation of macronutrients of two pineapple cultivars submitted to different concentrations of aluminum (Al). For this, a study was conducted in plastic pots containing 4 L of nutrient solution, in a randomized block design, in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme, corresponding to two pineapple cultivars (‘IAC Fantástico’ and ‘Vitória’) and five Al concentrations (0, 21.6, 43.2, 64.8 and 86.4 mg of Al plant-1), with four replicates. The following variables were evaluated: root length, dry matter of root, stem and leaf, stem diameter, number of leaves, chlorophyll content and accumulation of macronutrients at 60 days after treatment. The cv. ‘Vitória’ showed a linear decrease in chlorophyll content, root dry matter, root length and accumulation of N, P, K, Ca and Mg in most plant components promoted by the increase of Al concentration in the nutrient solution. The cv. ‘IAC Fantástico’ had lower total dry matter, stem dry matter, stem diameter and accumulation of N, Ca and Mg. However, the evaluated characteristics were not influenced by the increase of Al concentration, showing greater tolerance of this cultivar to Al in nutrient solution.
