Collections of insects in the museums are a part of natural heritage. Their preservation presents complexity, but is relevant for scientific, educational and exposition tasks. The history of entomological researches in the territory of Kemerovo region is described, the problem of discrepancy of data in references on stories of collecting entomological material to the maintenance of museum entomological collections in the region is analyzed.The generalizing research on existence and history of completing of entomological collections in the Region’s museums was never carried out earlier. 6 museums with such materials, the collections of the Department of Zoology and Ecology of Kemerovo State University and a number of private collections were revealed. Also detailed description of large collections of Kemerovo State University (materials of the Museum, the Department of Zoology and Ecology) and the Kemerovo Regional Museum of Local Lore is provided for the first time. The example of particular collections allowed observing the general regularity of merge of private collections with museum funds. Unambiguous leadership of of Kemerovo State University collections in quantity of units of storage and their importance is established. They are actively used and involved in research, educational, exposition and exhibition life of the University and the Region (with active support of private collections).

Статья раскрывает неизвестные страницы истории фольклористики Прикамья, связанные с фигурой известного пермского журналиста Галима Сулейманова (1928-2003). В период обучения на историко-филологическом факультете Молотовского (ныне - Пермского) государственного университета (1946-1951) он всерьез увлекся фольклором, во многом благодаря П. С. Богословскому, преподававшему в университете в 1946-1948 гг. Студент Г. И. Сулейманов проявил себя как талантливый, чуткий собиратель русского и татарского фольклора. Он неоднократно участвовал в фольклорных и диалектологических экспедициях в различные районы Прикамья. В 1948-1949 гг. на территории Юго-Осокинского (ныне - Кунгурский) и Соликамского районов Молотовской области (ныне - Пермский край) ему удалось зафиксировать пересказ былинного сюжета «Илья Муромец и Святогор» и контаминированный текст «Про Илью Муромца». Статья основана на архивных материалах, включающих в себя автобиографию Г. И. Сулейманова, его переписку с П. С. Богословским, тетради с фольклорными записями. Впервые вводятся в научный оборот прозаические пересказы былин, записанные Г. И. Сулеймановым, дается их краткая текстологическая характеристика, приводятся описания, позволяющие судить о методике работы собирателя. Рассматриваются факторы, в той или иной мере способствовавшие возникновению, сохранению и трансформации очагов былинной традиции в Пермском регионе. His article reveals unknown pages of the history of Kama Region folklore studies associated with the figure of the famous Perm journalist Galim Suleymanov (1928-2003). While studying at the Faculty of History and Philology at the Molotov (now Perm) State University (1946-1951), he became seriously interested in folklore, largely thanks to P. S. Bogoslovsky, who taught at the university in 1946-1948. Even as a student, Suleymanov proved to be a talented, sensitive collector of Russian and Tatar folklore. He repeatedly participated in folklore and dialectological expeditions to various regions of the Kama Region. In 1948-1949, on the territory of the Yugo-Osokinsky (now Kungursky) and Solikamsky Districts of the Molotov Region (now Perm), he was able to record the bylina stories “Ilya Muromets and Svyatogor” and the contaminated text of “About Ilya Muromets” in retold form. The article is based on archival materials, including Suleymanov’s autobiography; his correspondence with Bogoslovsky; and his notebooks containing folklore records. For the first time, the prose paraphrases of bylinas (Russian heroic epics) that Suleymanov recorded are introduced into scholarly circulation. Their textual characteristics are briefly described, and materials that allow us to judge the collector’s methodology are presented. Also considered are the factors that contributed to the emergence, preservation and transformation of the epic tradition in the Perm Region.

In the history of botany, Adam Zalužanský (d. 1613), a Bohemian physician, apothecary, botanist and professor at the University of Prague, is a little-known personality. Linnaeus's first biographers, for example, only knew Zalužanský from hearsay and suspected he was a native of Poland. This ignorance still pervades botanical history. Zalužanský is mentioned only peripherally or not at all. As late as the nineteenth century, a researcher would be unaware that Zalužanský’s main work Methodi herbariae libri tres actually existed in two editions from two different publishers (1592, Prague; 1604, Frankfurt). This paper introduces the life and work of Zalužanský. Special attention is paid to the chapter “De sexu plantarum” of Zalužanský’s Methodus, in which, more than one hundred years before the well-known De sexu plantarum epistola of R. J. Camerarius, the sexuality of plants is suggested. Additionally, for the first time, an English translation of Zalužanský’s chapter on plant sexuality is provided.

Abstract The growing number of foreign applicants looking forward to getting education in Ukrainian medical universities makes us find the ways how to improve and make effective the pre-professional training system of foreign medical applicants for further education. The article deals with the issues of the history of formation and development of the preprofessional training system of foreign medical applicants in Ukraine. On the ground of the electronic databases of the official websites of higher educational establishments, the data on years of opening first offices of the dean, departments and preparatory faculties for foreign medical applicants in Ukrainian medical universities are analyzed and systematized. Also the data on the setting up preparatory faculties at other universities who carry out licensed training of foreign students of the medical profile are presented. The data on the operating and management of such institutions in the system of the University administration are generalized. It’s revealed that during the years of its functioning the pre-professional training has changed, in particular the system was commercialized and the institutions involved in training foreign applicants have been reorganized. The modern trends in teaching foreign medical students at the preparatory faculties of the Ukrainian medical universities are displayed. Based on the analysis of the data it is concluded that the system of the pre-professional training of foreign medical applicants was set up in the 50s-60s years of the twentieth century. During this time, some positive experience in the preparation of future international medical specialists has been gained. The system of the pre-professional training of foreign medical applicants has been comprehensively improved and an effective system of managing foreign medical applicants has been created.

Hebrew incunabula amount to a rather modest, in terms of number, group of around 150 editions that were printed within the period from the late 60s of the 15th century to January 1, 1501 in Italy, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. Despite such a small number of Hebrew incunabula, the role they played in the history of the formation of European printing cannot be overlooked. Even less possible is to overestimate the importance of Hebrew incunabula for understanding Jewish spiritual life as it evolved in Europe during the Renaissance.Russian depositories house 43 editions of Hebrew incunabula, in 113 copies and fragments. The latter are distributed as following: the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences — 67 items stored; the Russian State Library — 38 items; the National Library of Russia — 7 items; the Jewish Religious Community of Saint Petersburg — 1 item. The majority of these books came in public depositories at the late 19th — first half of the 20th century from private collections of St. Petersburg collectors: Moses Friedland (1826—1899), Daniel Chwolson (1819—1911) and David Günzburg (1857—1910). This article looks into the circumstances of how exactly these incunabula were acquired by the depositories. For the first time there are analysed publications of Russian scholars that either include descriptions of Hebrew incunabula (inventories, catalogues, lists) or related to various aspects of Hebrew incunabula studies. The article presents the first annotated bibliography of all domestic publications that are in any way connected with Hebrew incunabula, covering the period from 1893 (the first publication) to the present. In private collections, there was paid special attention to the formation of incunabula collections. It was expressed in the allocation of incunabula as a separate group of books in printed catalogues and the publication of research works on incunabula studies, which belonged to the pen of collectors themselves and haven’t lost their scientific relevance today.

The history of the first «Korean Garden» design, development and establishment within the Irkutsk State University Botanic Garden in the harsh climatic conditions of Baikalian Siberia is described. The peculiarities of the selection of plants and landscape arrangements represent this garden as a unique ethnobotanical object – the cultural and natural heritage of Korea, an ecological and humanitarian resource for science, education and international cooperation.

The article is dedicated to the centenary of Belarusian State University and the centenary of biological university education in Belarus. The history of the faculty of biology is described, a retrospective of the development of its units since 1921 is presented. The most significant personalities and events are highlighted. The inseparable connection between the life of the faculty and the university as a whole is demonstrated.

Knud Rasmussen (1930–1985) was a famous Danish historian, Professor at Institute of Slavic Studies at University of Copenhagen, specialist in medieval Russia, author of a dozen of scientific monographs published in large editions including in Russian. In 1973, he defended his thesis titled “The Livonian crisis of 1554–1561”. According to the list of works published by J. Lind, 13 publications are devoted to the epoch of Ivan the Terrible. This article, published for the first time, is presented in the form of a report at the conference in Hungary. The scientist consistently outlined the main tasks and problems related to the study of Russian history abroad, in particular, in Denmark. He told what plan was built for the team of Danish historians who decided in the early 1970s to prepare a textbook on Russian history in the form of a problem historiographic course for Danish students, and how this plan was implemented. The study of works on Russian history and their systematization helped the team of Danish historians, which included K. Rasmussen, develop a special historiographic method and its principles, which led to developing understanding of the problematic historical field as a whole and placing individual research in it. As a result, a multivolume manual was written; by the time of K. Rasmussen’s speech, 3 volumes were published, covering the period of Russian history from the 17th to the 20th century inclusive. K. Rasmussen worked on preparing a volume on the Russian history of the 16th century. In the second part of his speech (article), the author shared his thoughts on the chosen approach to the assessment of historiography and spoke about the content of this volume, where he outlined the controversial problem of enslaving peasants, discussions on the reasons for backwardness of Russian cities as the basis of Moscow defeats in Livonia, possible ways of Russian revival, on the state and its institutions and on the development of historical events in the field of domestic policy. Nicholas Adonts (1871–1942) is one of the outstanding Armenian scholars who received an excellent education in Russia and Europe. During his studies at the University of St. Petersburg and later, when he improved his knowledge in well-known educational centers of Europe – in London, Paris, Vienna, Strasbourg and Munich, Adonts had the support of the great national benefactor Alexander Mantashiants. Eight volumes of Adonts’ works were published by Yerevan State University with the support of the Armenian branch of the Galust Gyulbenkian Foundation. Adonts left no autobiographical memories․ They would have been extremely interesting, since his life was really amazing. Tigran the Great (95–55 BC) was the most beloved historical figure of Adonts. He actually confirms that Tigran manifested himself as a world sovereign and enlightener, and his activities require new elucidation. Adonts presents the great deeds and military successes of the representatives of the princely house of Mamikonians in the Byzantine Empire. The study “The Fame of Bagratids” by Adonts is very interesting; it represents the branches of the Armenian royal house of Bagratids in Georgia, Caucasian Albania and Artsakh. In his extensive article “The Historical Basis and Ideological Value of the Novel David Bek”, the historian takes an exploratory approach while describing the historical events of the novel David Bek by Raffi. Especially rich is the heritage of the scientist in Byzantine studies, which has two branches of scientific and cognitive significance. Firstly, it presents important events of the history of Byzantium, and then the famous figures of this history, who were Armenians by nationality. In 1928 Adonts made a new discovery in Byzantine studies, exploring the “Historical basis of the Byzantine epic Digenis Acritas”. He proved that the epic poem was not Greek, since the homeland and place of activity of the main hero are the Euphrates valley, and his exploits take place in Western Armenia. Adonts was a devoted defendet of the Armenian Cause and dedicated many articles to this issue. Adonts left three monumental monographs as a legacy to science. These are: Armenia in the Era of Justinian (1908), Dionysius of Thrace and Armenian Commentators (1915) and the posthumously published Critical History of Armenia (1946). The scientific heritage of Adonts in the field of Byzantine studies and Armenology is rich with many scientific discoveries, whose value will be preserved forever.

This article is dedicated to the study of the nature of E. Agafonov’s creative ties with the theater – a topic that has been insufficiently covered in the native art history. The author’s field of view is set in the artist’s early Kharkiv period, marked as the years of 1905–1913. The article focuses on the exceptional role of E. Agafonov in the organization and the artistic practice of the first modernist theater “Blakytne Oko” in Kharkiv (1909–1911). Agafonov belonged to the constellation of masters who was very sensitive to the problem of evolving the artistic speech. He viewed the theater as a convincing platform for promoting and approving of the latest artistic values, discovered by Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Experiments in easel art (with color, plastic, line, techniques, materials, etc.), largely inspired by the work of D. Burliuk (1906–1908), were directly reflected in Agafonov’s stage practice, namely in numerous designs of the modernist productions based on plays by M. Maeterlinkc, A. Schnitzler, S. Pshybyshevsky and O. Blok. In turn, it was established that theatrical motives were reflected in E. Agafonov’s easel art, as well as in the art of the students of his artistic studio – O. Rybnikov, I. Terentyev, M. Sinyakova, and K. Storozhnichenko. In this regard, a special attention is given to the linocuts by F. Nadezhdin. It was found that the program of “total” design of theatrical space (stage and auditorium), as well as the implementation of production ideas in the cabaret theater “Blakytne Oko” were the result of the master’s fascination with the concepts of artistic synthesis, actualized in the era of Modern. Agafonov moved from dramatization of paintings (of A. Beklin, F. Malyavin, and O. Rodin) to staging experimental show-programs like “The Evening of Autumn”, “Visiting Pierrot” and “In the Middle of Nowhere”, partial reconstruction of which was undertaken for the first time by the author of the article. Agafonov was close to the idea of artistic synthesis, identified by him in F. Malyavin’s paintings, in V. Komissarzhevska’s theatre and I. Duncan’s choreography. The study of E. Agafanov’s theatrical art expands the understanding of the history of formation and development of Ukrainian scenography at the beginning of the twentieth century.
