Introduction: Copper is a very important metal because all forms of life require copper metals an essential micronutrient. Various biological processes, directly or indirectly are dependent on copper metal. Methods: Copper soaps are used as fungicides, bacteriosides, herbicides and insecticides. Copper complexes including heterocyclic compounds have attracted our attention in a magnificent way because of its utility in catalysis and biological functions. Their mechanism of synthesis, characterization and structural insight, are crucial for comprehending the criteria of the bonding and electronic interactions between the proximate metal center and chelating atoms. But still, there is a need to explore some of more biological properties for their wide applicability and significant usage in multiple fields because it is an untapped area with potentially tremendous value. Hence, in this paper, we report the synthesis and characterization of transition metal complex of N/S ligand by chromatographic, FT-IR, NMR, ESR, elemental analysis, conductometric and magnetic moment measurements. Results: The synthesized metal complexes namely copper palmitate with 4-nitrophenylthiourea and copper palmitate with 4-methoxyphenylthiourea were successfully investigated for biological activities against fungi Candida albicans and Trichoderma harzinum. Based on the results, we pronounced biocidal activities of the novel complexes. Conclusion: It is concluded that the activity of nitro phenylthiourea complex has greater antifungal activity than methoxy phenylthiourea complex against these test fungi. We can conclude that the antifungal activity of these complexes varies according to the nature of the groups attached to the ligands.

New benzoyl thiourea derivatives and their nickel and copper complexes were synthesized. The structure of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis, FT-IR, and1H NMR techniques. Four of the synthesized compounds are analyzed by X-ray single crystal diffraction technique. WhereasN,N-dimethyl-N′-(4-fluorobenzoyl)thiourea,N,N-diethyl-N′-(4-fluorobenzoyl)thiourea, andN,N-di-n-butyl-N′-(4-fluorobenzoyl) thiourea crystallize in the monoclinic system,bis(N,N-di-n-propyl-N′-(4-fluorobenzoyl)thioureato) nickel(II) complex crystallizes in the triclinic system. These ligand molecules form dimers through strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds such as N–H⋯S, C–H⋯O, and N–H⋯O. Moreover, there are different types of intramolecular interactions in the crystal structures.Bis(N,N-dimethyl-N′-(4-fluorobenzoyl)thioureato) nickel(II) complex has a nearly square-planar coordination. The distance of nickel atom from the best plane through the coordination sphere is 0.029 Å.

A novel linear benzoxazine-containing polytriazole was successfully synthesized via metal-free click reaction. Benefited from the advantages of click reaction, the synthesis procedure was easily and efficiently. The linear polymer could be transformed into crosslinked structure after ring-opening polymerization of oxazine induced by the increasing temperature. The FT-IR characterization verified the structure transformation between linear and crosslinked polymer. Moreover, the thermal properties and thermal degradation behaviors of linear polymer and the corresponding crosslinked polymer were studied by DSC and TGA. The novel polytriazole was proved to be a kind of thermal stable polymers with high thermal decomposition temperature (Td5over 300°C).

Changes in lifestyle and demographics, rising consumer incomes, and shifting preferences due to advanced knowledge about the relationships between food and health contribute to generate new needs in the food supply. Today, the role of food is not only intended as hunger satisfaction and nutrient supply but also as an opportunity to prevent nutrition-related diseases and improve physical and mental well-being. For this reason, there is a growing interest in the novel or less well-known plant foods that offer an opportunity for health maintenance. Recently, interest in plant foods and underutilized fruits is continuously growing, and agrobiodiversity exploitation offers effective and extraordinary potentialities. Plant foods could be an important source of health-promoting compounds and functional food ingredients with beneficial properties: the description of the quality and physicochemical traits, the identification and quantification of bioactive compounds, and the evaluation of their biological activities are important to assess plant food efficacy as functional foods or source of food supplement ingredients.

Andean blueberries are wild berries grown and consumed in Ecuador which contain high values of bioactive compounds, mainly anthocyanins, with powerful antioxidant activity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the profile and contents of (poly)phenols and carotenoids in Andean blueberry by HPLC-DAD-MSn and determine a wide range of its biological activities. The antioxidant capacity of this fruit was evaluated in vitro by three different methods and in vivo using the zebrafish animal model, also the toxicity effect was determined by the zebrafish embryogenesis test. Besides, the antimicrobial activity and the capacity of Andean blueberry to produce hemagglutination in blood cells were evaluated. Finally, the bioaccessibility of (poly)phenols and related antioxidant capacity were determined in the different phases of an in vitro digestion. The global results indicated no toxicity of Andean blueberry, weakly bacteriostatic activity, and high contents of anthocyanins and antioxidant capacity, which were partially bioaccesible in vitro (~ 50 % at the final intestinal step), contributing to the knowledge of its health benefits for consumers and its potential use in the food and pharmaceutical industry as functional ingredient.

A phthalonitrile precursor 4-(3-hydroxypropylmercapto)phthalonitrile (3) was synthesized via a base-catalyzed nucleophilic aromatic nitro displacement of 4-nitrophthalonitrile with the 3-mercapto-1-propanol. A novel tetrasubstituted metal-free phthalocyanine (4) ( M = 2 H ) and its metal complexes (5–8) ( M = Zn , Ni , Cu and Co ) bearing 3-hydroxypropylmercapto moieties were prepared by the cyclotetramerization reaction of (3) with the appropriate materials. The visible spectra of the zinc(II) phthalocyanine (5) was recorded with different concentrations and different ions as Ag +, Hg 2+ and Pb 2+ in DMF and also with different solvents as dimethylformamide and pyridine. Fluorescence spectrum of the compound (5) was also studied. Temperature and frequency dependence of AC conductivity for (4–8) was investigated in air and under vacuum and were found to be ~10-8–10-5 S.m-1. Thermal properties of the phthalocyanines were examined by differential scanning calorimetry. All the novel compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, UV-vis, FT-IR, NMR and MS spectral data and DSC techniques.

Four new Schiff bases have been derived from the condensation of acenapthoquinone and naphthylamines in 1:2 molar ratios. These Schiff base ligands were used to synthesise novel mononuclear Ni(II) complexes with square planar geometry. The ligands and the complexes have been investigated by elemental analyses, spectroscopic methods (FT-IR and UV-Vis.,), molar conductance and magnetic susceptibility studies. The electrochemical properties of Ni(II) complexes have been studied by cyclic voltammetry technique. The catalytic efficacy of the complexes has been analysed in the oxidation of toluene to benzyl alcohol, using H2O2. Biological activities of these ligands and complexes were checked against selected bacterial strains (E. coli and S. Aureus).
