Culture and humans are interdependent and fused by ecological processes and natural energy cycles. The author as the creator of the work cannot be separated from the cultural environment from which it originates. This study aims to reveal (1) cultural elements and (2) representation of cultural ecology in the novel. The material object of this study is Wisran Hadi's Persiden, Generasi Ketujuh novel. The uses a qualitative descriptive method that describes the research subject based on the facts of the visible cultural ecology. Data analysis of the study is done by classifying data, categorizing data, and finding important issues related to the study of cultural ecology. In addition, it is also supported by interactive-dialectical analysis or back and forth to track the overall findings. The results of the study reveal that (1) the universal element of culture (cultural system) is the basis for discussion of cultural ecology. The cultural system is very dominant and even becomes the author's frame of mind in presenting the reality of life in his work. The strengths and relations built by each system represent the operation of cultural ecology in literature; (2) cultural ecology can be considered through a shift in people's mindsets in adapting to their environment. This adaptation has implications for the division of community groups into two. First, one community makes adaptation by maintaining local identity, namely tradition. Second, other societies make adaptation by leaving the tradition to the modern (global) trend. Keywords: culture ecology, elements of culture, adaptation

The word culture is a word that contains solid cultural elements of a particular group or area. This word cannot be understood directly without any knowledge or explanation. This study includes an analysis of the word culture with the material object of the historical novel ‘Amāliqat al-Shimāl by Najīb al-Kīlānī. The word culture contained in the novel was collected, then included in each category based on the division of the cultural elements of Peter Newmark. The method used is descriptive qualitative by presenting the data in the analysis. The cultural words analyzed are given a general and concise explanation accompanied by pictures. This study aims to understand the novel’s content and strengthen the word culture, which is found as the Nigerian identity, which is the background of the events in the novel. The study results found 21 cultural words that have an identical effect on Nigeria. The cultural words are detailed in several subcategories, including one animal name, one plant name and eight place names in the ecological culture category, one name for traditional clothing in the material culture category, five names of state figures in social culture, and two names of beliefs, and three names of ethnic groups in the variety of social organization cultures.

Although it is already embodied in Islamic culture, acculturation can still be traced to elements of the supporting cultures. When the religion of Islam entered into Indonesia, the original culture was not brought with them, so the previous culture was continued by Islam. When the mosque concept is embodied as a cultural product, there are various forms and various buildings involved in the mosque. Mosques located in the Middle East are different from mosques in Indonesia. The form of the roof overlaps with that taken from the roof of ancient mosques in Indonesia. The form of roof overlap at mosques in South Konawe District has been traced by the author. This study aims to identify and analyse what cultural elements affect the shape of the roof of the mosque and the form of acculturation of the cultures at the mosques in the District of South Konawe. This research was used a qualitative descriptive method. This research concluded that the architecture as part of the Hindu cultural system, Islamic mysticism, and Europe acculturate is displayed in the roof of the mosque in the District of South Konawe. The roof shape of the two-tiered or three-storey mosque (Hindu culture and the Islamic principles of Mysticism) and the roof covered with mustaks shaped like onions (European culture) was formed by the acculturation of the three cultures.

Abstract:. This research aims to explain the cultural expression in the novel by Hasnan Singodimayan based on the perspective of cultural ecology. These cultural expressions include social patterns, political patterns, religious patterns. Hasnan Singodimayan's novel that was examined was the novel Kerudung Santet Gandrung and Niti Negari Bala Abangan. This research is a qualitative descriptive type and uses an interdisciplinary approach. Data collection using library techniques, while analyzing data using content analysis techniques. Content analysis is done by inference and analysis. The theory used is cultural ecology belonging to Julian H. Steward. The results showed that the cultural expression in the novel Kerudung Santet Gandrung and Niti Negari Bala Abangan contained human behavior patterns. This pattern is a social pattern, political pattern, and religious pattern. Social patterns can be found in community interactions and visiting activities and receiving guests. Political patterns exist in the Banyuwangi system of government during the Dutch, PKI, and current politics. Religious patterns are found in religious behavior that combines religion and culture. Based on data analysis, it can be concluded that cultural expressions in Kerudung Santet Gandrung and Niti Negari Bala Abangan form cultural patterns, namely reciprocal social patterns, historical patterns in the form of history or periods, and religious patterns which are a combination of religion and culture.Keyword: The benefits of learning motivation,  local wisdom of G1 Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan ekspresi budaya dalam novel karya Hasnan Singodimayan berdasarkan perspektif ekologi budaya. Ekspresi budaya tersebut meliputi pola sosial, pola politik, pola religi. Novel Hasnan Singodimayan yang diteliti adalah novel Kerudung Santet Gandrung dan Niti Negari Bala Abangan. Penelitian ini berjenis deskriptif kualitatif dan menggunakan pendekatan interdisipliner. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik pustaka, sedangkan penganalisisan data menggunakan teknik analisis konten. Analisis konten dilakukan dengan cara inferensi dan analisis. Teori yang digunakan adalah ekologi budaya milik Julian H. Steward. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekspresi budaya dalam novel Kerudung Santet Gandrung dan Niti Negari Bala Abangan terdapat pola prilaku manusia. Pola tersebut merupakan pola sosial, pola politik, dan pola religi. Pola sosial dapat ditemukan pada interaksi masyarakat dan kegiatan bertamu dan menerima tamu. Pola politik terdapat pada sistem pemerintahan Banyuwangi pada masa Belanda, PKI, dan politik saat ini. Pola religi terdapat pada perilaku beragama yang memadukan agama dan budaya. Berdasarkan analisis data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekspresi budaya dalam novel Kerudung Santet Gandrung dan Niti Negari Bala Abangan membentuk pola-pola budaya, yakni pola sosial yang bersifat timbal balik, pola politik yang berbentuk historis atau masa ke masa, dan pola religi yang merupakan perpaduan antara agama dan budaya.Kata Kunci: Ekspresi Budaya , Pola Budya, Ekologi Budaya

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mendekripsikan tanggapan pembaca terhadap novel Le Petit Prince (2) mendeskripsikan horizon harapan pembaca terhadap novel Le Petit Prince, dan (3) mendeskripsikan faktor-faktor penyebab perbedaan tanggapan dan horizon harapan pembaca. Penelitian ini termasuk jenis penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian berupa teks yang memuat tanggapan pembaca novel Le Petit Princeyang terdiri dari 20 orang, sedangkan sumber datanya berupa artikel dan makalah yang dimuat di media massa cetak dan elektronik termasuk internet. Instrumen penelitian berupa seperangkat konsep tentang pembaca, tanggapan pembaca, dan horizon harapan. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan cara observasi dan data dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian yang didapat sebagai berikut. (1) Seluruh pembaca menanggapi atau menilai positif unsur tema, alur, tokoh, latar, sudut pandang, gaya bahasa, teknik penceritaan, bahasa, dan isi novel Le Petit Prince. (2) Harapan sebagian besar pembaca sebelum membaca novel Le Petit Prince sesuai dengan kenyataan ke sembilan unsur di dalam novel Le Petit Prince, sehingga pembaca dapat dengan mudah menerima dan memberikan pujian pada novel Le Petit Prince. (3) Faktor penyebab perbedaan tanggapan dan horizon harapan pembaca selain perbedaan stressing unsur yang ditanggapi juga karena perbedaan pengetahuan tentang sastra, pengetahuan tentang kehidupan, dan pengalaman membaca karya sastra.Kata kunci: tanggapan pembaca, horizon harapan, Le Petit PrinceAbstractThis study aims to (1) describe reader’s responses to the novel Le Petit Prince (2) to describe the reader's expectations horizon of Le Petit Prince's novel, and (3) to describe the factors causing differences in responses and the horizon of readers' expectations. This research is a descriptive qualitative research type. The research data consist of a set of paragraphs that contains readers' responses to Le Petit Prince's novel, while the data sources are articles and papers published in print and electronic mass media including the internet. The research instruments are a set of reader concepts, reader responses, and expectations horizon. The technique of collecting data is observation and data are analyzed by using qualitative descriptive technique. The results obtained are as follow: (1) All readers respond and valuethe theme elements,plots, characters, background, point of view, language, titles, storytelling techniques, language, and extrinsic novel Le Petit Prince positively. (2) The expectations of most readers before reading Le Petit Prince's novels are in accordance with the nine facts in Le Petit Prince's novel, so readers can easily accept and give prise to Le Petit Prince's novel. (3) Factors causing differences in responses and horizon of readers' expectations other than the stressing differences of the elements being addressed also due to the differences in knowledge of literature, knowledge of life and literary reading experience. Sosiolinguistik memberikan pengetahuan tentang code switching (campur kode). Analisis teks novel untuk memahami penggunaan campur kode penutur dapat dilaksanakan untuk pengembangan ilmu sosiologi bahasa. Metode deskriptif kualitatif dalam menganalisis temuan dan mengklasifikasikan pencampuran kode dari Novel Andre Herata Sang Pemimpi. Analisis data berfokus pada kalimat dan paragraf yang menunjukkan penggunaan pencampuran kode di dalamnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada satu jenis pencampuran kode yang ditemukan dalam novel Sang Pemimpi yaitu pencampuran kode luar (bahasa Indonesia dan Inggris) yang kemunculannya ada dalam bentuk kata, frasa, dan penyisipan klausa. Penggunaan dan jenis-jenis pencampuran kode yang ada dalam novel Sang Pemimpi karya Andrea Hirata meyangkut pencampuran kode; pada pencampuran berbagai unit linguistik, seperti morfem, kata-kata, pengubah, frasa, klausa dan kalimat, terutama yang berasal dari dua sistem tata bahasa yang berpartisipasi dalam sebuah kalimat. Dapat disimpulkan narator menggunakan pencampuran kode dari Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, dan pencampuran kode luar dari Bahasa Inggris; punchbag, sprinter, fan, session, speaker, shock, slide dan Bahasa Arab. Abstract. Sociolinguistics gave knowledge of the switching codes. Text analysis of novels for understanding the interdiction of interpreting codes can be performed for the development of language sociology. The qualitative descriptive method of analyzing the find and classifying the code mixing of the novel Andre herata Sang pemimpi. Data analysis focuses on sentences and paragraphs that indicate the use of a code mixing in them. Studies have shown that one type of mixing code found in the Sang pemimpi novel is that it includes a mixture of outside codes (Indonesian and English) that appears in the form of words, phrases, and insertion of klausa. The use and kinds of coded blending in the book of Sang pemimpi Andrea hirata passes the mixing of codes; In the mixing of various linguistic units, such as morpheme, words, modifiers, phrases, clauses and sentences, especially those that come from the two grammatical systems that participate in a sentence. It could be inferred that the narrator used a code mixing from Indonesian, Malay, and a proprietary blend of English; punchbag, sprinter, fan, session, speaker, shock, slide dan Arabic.

Azab dan Sengsara is an Indonesian novel written by Merari Siregar (1921), one of the famous roman novelists in Indonesia in Balai Pustaka era. The novel is a material object of the present study. The study aims at revealing oppression, violence, exploitation of woman and all varieties of injustice to woman, revealing social symptoms ideological forms containing in the novel as a manifestation of a company condition in old era. This research uses a qualitative method and approaches of literary feminist and literary sociology as its support. This research succeeds in answering the problems of woman life, as manifestation of real life which reflects kinds of woman’s life in society of Indonesian, for example: marriage, custom, violence, etc. for the hero “Mariamin” (a woman). She is the manifestation of the authority life, besides talking on oppression of woman images of its community lives. The author succeeded offering solutions with various contradictions, conflicts, handling down the novel as manifestation in real life.

The novel Bumi Manusia is a controversial novel that contains Indigenous life in the Dutch colonial period. Pram depicts the cultural differences between Indigenous and Dutch with a very contrast in all aspects in more detail and depth. The purpose of this research is to expose the cultural differences which are framed in the novel Bumi Manusia. This research is also intended to expose the differences between Javanese and Dutch cultures which not only distinguish culture based on appearance and language. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with secondary data which are obtained from the library research, in the form of literature which are related to this research. The results of this study are: 1) Culture can affect one's personality and mindset. 2) The author describes broader cultural differences and is able to criticize the social gap or strata which are formed from the different cultures at the same time. Keywords :Framing Analysis, Media Studies, Bumi Manusia

his research investigated  Deixis used in the novel entitled The Good Muslim by Tahmima Anam.This study was conducted to find out; (1) types of deixis contained in utterances of the novel entitled the Good Muslim by Tahmima Anam, (2) types of deixis were used most in the Novel entitled The Good Muslim by Tahmima Anam. Therefore, it gived significant to the author herself, the learners, other researchers and english teachers. The writer used levinson’s theory in analyzing the data. The methodology of this research  was qualitative descriptive study. The technique used to collect the data was documentation. The data was taken from 1.972 utterances of the novel entitled the Good Muslim by Tahmima Anam. From the data have been analyzed, it was found that there were five types of deixis, they were person deixis occured 1.723 times (87.4%), place deixis occured 53 times (2.7%), time deixis occured 68 times (3.4%), discourse deixis occured 83 times (4.2 %), person deixis occured 45 times (2.3 %). The most commonly used types of deixis was person deixis occuring 1.723 times (87.4%).

This study is about the influence of the environments toward Jean LaBarge's in Sitka. The novel analyzed with qualitative descriptive research method and sociological approach. The analysis shows that character of Jean LaBarge gets influences from nature and other characters in his development. Jean is influenced by the great swamp and Alaska which makes him brave, independent, and ambitious. In addition, there is some social environment influencing him. His father, Captain Hutchins, Peter Hovey, Rob J. Walker, and Princess Helena Gagarin. Jean's characteristics were formed by both nature and social environment.

The purpose of this study was to describe the author's social context and socio-cultural elements in the novel About You by Tere Liye. This research was a qualitative research with sociology of literature approach. This research was to describe author's social context and socio-cultural elements in the novel About You by Tere Liye. The results of the discussion in this study were obtained story fact that related to their social values namely violence, starting a business, product marketing, malaria events (January 15 disasters), friendship, and betrayal. While the social values contained in the novel About You by Tere Liye included: patience, obedience, forgiveness, helping others, caring for others, working hard, loyalty, mutual trust between friends, help between friends, and honestly. The results of this study conclude: (1) author's social context of the novel About You by Tere Liye work consists of the theme and facts of theory, and (2) socio-cultural elements of the novel About You the moral values contained in Tere Liye's novel About You are: (a) human relationships with self that include fear, death, longing and revenge, (b) human relationships with humans.
