“The spiral of silence” theory was first funded by Professor Elizabeth Noelle Neumann in 1972. This theory indicates that, if a person feels that his opinion is belonging to minority, he is less likely to express it, because he is afraid of being retaliated or isolated by majority. This theory assumes that people are always estimating what the public opinion is, and they often judge it through the media. The theory also assumes that we have an inherent fear of isolation and that we know what perspectives can lead us to isolation by majority. This theory also explains why there are always such minority groups in the society and they dare to raise different opinions. With the flash development of the Internet, more and more self media have broken the old pattern of mass media as the information publisher. So it is a big question whether “the spiral of silence” theory is still applicable to the Internet environment. This paper, from the perspective of the basic hypothesis and core theory of “the spiral of silence”, focuses on whether the theory is applicable to the communicative behavior in We-Media.

The power of the media and the persuasive properties of the “seventh force” have always intrigued the public, as well as media theorists, sociologists, psycholo- gists and even physicians, who have investigated the influence of media content on hormone levels in the body or bodily deviations due to excessive use of media. In this paper, the effects of the media on individuals and the audience are sublimated through some of the most famous media theories, seeking support in the field of media psychology and social psychology. The persuasive impact of the media is described through the agenda setting theory and the theory of the spiral of silence, observing the effects of these theories, from printed to digital media. The paper also emphasizes the influence of the media through the decor and mise-en-scène in the TV studio, through advertising, market consumerism, and the importance of the information avalanche for the persuasive action of the media.

Local press is defined as a press that serves to introduce and train the public and to provide the public opinion.  Local press gives information about the cases happen around the region that it is published and it forms public opinion about the problems of that region.  New communication technologies havehave an important role in the forming and enhancing the news contents in the media. Changeovers have occurred in the production,  process and distributiondistribution of the news by developing the new media. On the other hand,  Internet journalism used by many press institutions is occurredoccurred as a new concept in mass communication.  National and local newspapers do not remain insensitive to this new mass communication and it attempts the Internet journalism. Firstly,  pressed newspaper had been turned into Web sites as similar but later new application about the transferring the news to the reader have occurred when we look at this application about the transferring of the pressed newspaper to the Internet environment.  In this study, the Internet websites if Adanaher from Adana,  Olay from Bursa and Ege'nin Sesi from Izmir have been compared with each other.  The form, content and interaction of these three newspapers have been discussed and the usage of social media and importance given to the local news have been analyzed.

The development of the Internet and social media and networks as a media environment and communication channels combined with the specificity of the journalistic profession in the online environment are a factor which contributes to the emergence and proliferation of fake news. The lack of reliable fact checking by the media and the fast news consumption by the public lead to mass disinformation about certain issues or subjects. The current paper examines fake news from several points of view and describes the models of their use – as harmless jokes, as lack of journalistic competence or professionalism and as means of manipulation and intentional misleading of public opinion. The attempts of big media corporations to fight fake news are also described.

The spiral of silence effect describes individuals’ tendency to silence minority opinions, whilst using the media to gauge majority opinion. While the spiral of silence effect has been explored in controversial political contexts, the phenomenon has not been scrutinized in its relation to religious communication. The current study applies this concept to further the current understanding of communication as it applies to religion. A questionnaire was distributed electronically to 94 students at a large university in the southeastern United States. Using survey methods, this paper finds that religiosity is positively correlated to willingness to communicate about religion. This paper also finds that media exposure is not related to either willingness to communicate about religion or religiosity.

This epilogue comments on the changes within the Polish American community and the Polish-language press during the most recent decades, including the impact of the Internet and social media on the practice of letter-writing. It also poses questions about the legacy and memory of Paryski in Toledo, Ohio, and in Polonia scholarship. Paryski's life and career were based on his intelligence, determination, and energy. He believed that Poles in the United States, as in Poland, must benefit from education, and that education was not necessarily the same as formal schooling. Anybody could embark on the path to self-improvement if they read and wrote. Long before the Internet changed the way we communicate, Paryski and other ethnic editors effectively adopted and practiced the concept of debate within the public sphere in the media. Ameryka-Echo's “Corner for Everybody” was an embodiment of this concept and allowed all to express themselves in their own language and to write what was on their minds.

The presence of mass media in the current era of globalization is nothing special, various kinds of media appear, grow and develop like mushrooms in the rainy season, especially with the internet that allows connections between individuals in this world. The media enter into people's lives and have an influence on one's beliefs, this is in line with the opinion of Jhon Vivian who said that mass media is a facility that carries messages to the public. A person's religious behavior arises because of an internal urge, which then gets an influence from the environment. In subsequent developments, religious behavior is much influenced by factors of religious experience, personality, psychological elements and others. Human life experiences several phases in the level of development of the religious soul in itself, including the children's phase, the adolescent phase, the adult phase, and the advanced phase. Each phase has its own characteristics and uniqueness. One of the formers of religious character in these phases is the mass media. Mass media in the present era is not only a complement but also a part of life. This media has both positive and negative influences on humans.

Media and public discourses are constantly changing as a result of their effect on one another. The Consultation Commission on Accommodation Practices Related to Cultural Differences which roamed the province of Québec in late 2007 was widely reported on in the mainstream news-media. This paper provides a critical content analysis of 105 articles in three Québec daily newspapers (La Presse, Le Soleil, and The Gazette) during the months of September to December 2007 when the public forums discussing the reasonable accommodation of minority groups took place. By making theoretical linkages with the data collected, the findings show that the media discourses between the three newspapers vary slightly and are not accurate representations of the public discourses surrounding the issue of reasonable accommodations amongst the Québec population.

This article discusses the issue of the influence of digital technologies on manifestations and transformation of the spiral of silence phenomenon. An analysis is given on the role of the Internet as a public sphere, and the results of recent researches on spiral of silence manifestations on online-based platforms are discussed. The author comes to the conclusion that manifestations of spiral of silence are crucial in the process of the development of the Internet as a public sphere, and, communicative, technological and social-psychological factors, discussed in this paper, will determine whether and how online-based platforms will contribute democratic processes.

Representation of a tourist destination on the media which able to reach around the world is very crucial in order to introduce and promote it to the large scope of the public. The internet, particularly website is one of the media to let people recognise and realise a destination as the place to visit. A study found most tourists visit and explore an official website and then to respond as if they were planning to travel to the destination (Jeon, et.al, 2017). This indicates that the official website still plays an important role in tourists’ decision making pre-visiting. Jakarta, for example, as one of a tourist destination, at once is also a capital city of Indonesia, central of business in Indonesia and a modern city. Therefore, the concepts of representation play an important role to depict Jakarta as a destination, for example, the use of themes to represent Jakarta as a holiday place on the website, such as focusing on the traditional and modern Jakarta (Djumrianti, 2016). Thus, the purpose of this paper is to analyse how the exoticism concept is used through twenty-five photos and fourteen sections of texts on the official websites which last update in 2014. The study found exoticism idea is one of the strategies used by the Jakarta government in the representation of the city on the Enjoy Jakarta website and the Portal Site of Jakarta Capital City. This concept influences on the commercialisation of Jakarta as a whole a tourist destination.
