In this article we also made an attempt at revealing the essence of these methods in the educational process at bachelor’s level. They turned out to be the main methods for the formation of students’ universal and professional competencies. The project method and case method act as an integral factor in the gamification of educational process contributing to the formation of skills of expedient action, activation of thinking, instilling the skills of independent search for solutions in standard and non-standard situations that may come up in the course of professional activity. Students actively and productively master the necessary competencies while revealing their latent potential. When faced with a formulated problem, students concentrate on finding a solution to the problem and the teacher’s skillful interpretation of the problem directs students to search for non-standard ways. Everything mentioned above leads to the development of integrative thinking and significantly expands students’ capabilities. The practice of working with the case method and the project method in the classroom confirms their effectiveness in the professional development of university students, expanding their professional horizons and the formation of professional thinking.

University social responsibility (USR) is an important assessment criterion of the QS Stars. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the social orientation of universities as intellectual leaders in the development of society gains particular importance. The research purpose is to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the university activity directions in the framework of strategies (USR). An empirical assessment of the level and complementary factors of USR in the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) was conducted, using the method of integral and expert assessment. Grounded on scoring according to the principal component analysis, the structure of the factors of the USR development in the BRICS countries was determined. Multifactor regression modeling allowed substantiating the priority of factors stimulating the development of USR in the BRICS countries in modern conditions and arguing the main barriers to introducing the concept of social responsibility into university activities and expanding the stakeholders’ circle in it. The research results showed that the university management creativity, effective communication with the public and stakeholders, the quality of the educational process and the development of scientific activities stimulate USR development in the BRICS countries and should be used as the basis for the strategic planning of activities in the context of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. Conceptual trends in the USR development can be useful for universities in the studied countries when adapting strategic development plans regarding the social needs of modern society.

The need to specify the types and forms of communication between the subjects of the educational process in the university is becoming acute. This practice is network communication. The universality of interaction, the multiplicity, the diversity of levels, the extreme complexity of representation, put forward problems becomes important. Today, in the social world, interaction acquires special, new characteristics due to the specifics of the interacting forces. And above all, when the bearer of these forces is the person himself, the social subject acting and projecting his own actions. The research studies consider the technologies of interaction of students at different stages of professional development. Therefore, the problem of involving students in new educational and social practices on the basis of network interaction resources – resources used in everyday life-is becoming more relevant. The education towards the job of a social employee requires the learning of specific knowledge that ensures the interdisciplinary and versatile preparation of a future professional. In this aspect, social projects are of particular importance as due to their multitasking requirements they stimulate student activity, allow for the combination of knowledge with action and activate reflexive behaviour, which allows for the evaluation of the designed activities. The preparation and implementation of projects are related to the necessity to assume a number of roles, creating the opportunity to test oneself in new activities and to determine the degree of self-readiness to do/perform the job. The aim of the article is to highlight the educational values of designing and presenting the structure of social projects realized at the Social Work Unit at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Silesia. ABSTRACTIn Higher Education is becoming widespread a teaching method founded on the constructivist and competency-based learning which is developed in the methodological context of cases, problems and projects that several universities have standardized. In this article, we study its relevance in the light of an experience in the lecture room and we also make progress as for the possible connection between those methodologies and qualitative tradition of the Social and Educational Sciences. To conclude, we contribute to its positive effect with regard to the learning efficiency and to preserve an ethical aim in the educational process. Contacto principal: [email protected]

This article is devoted to the person and his views on the role of scientific activity in the life of the university and its significance for the social life. Kazimierz Marciniak represented geography and he specialized in climatology and bioclimatology. His extensive academic experience, gained through studies and scientific work at several Polish universities and in the Institute of Balneology in Poznań, made him not only an excellent researcher, but also a scholar whose views on the role of science in the life of the university and in social life were influencing the generation of representatives of many sciences who worked at the WSG University in Bydgoszcz. The convictions of the scholar in question, his broad vision of science not only as an enterprise calculated on commercial values, place him among the outstanding Polish scientists and philosophers. He shared with them not only the conviction about the cognitive function of science, which was engaged in economic activity, but also noticed its highly humanistic and ennobling role in relation to the researcher, in which the creative aspects of his work are present. Scientific work also contributes to the improvement of the educational process. Participation of a student, in any form of scientific activity, shapes his intellectual and even moral skills, educates in the spirit of the culture of the word, especially the written one. In the opinion of the discussed author, the main function of science for the entire social life is to forecast phenomena. Exploratory and exploratory functions are important, however, they are subordinated to the former. His methodological and philosophical views on the structure and dynamics of scientific theories were characterised by inductivism and probabilism. Some of his views on the questions of the nature of phenomena, the structure of reality and the relation between scientific theory and reality, were not presented in an unambiguous way; it also seems that they evolved towards anti-phenomenalism, anti-foundationalism and essentialism, which distanced him from scientism, as a worldview quite characteristic of representatives of the natural sciences of the 20th century.
