SUMMARY This study examined the effects of food-simulating liquid (FSL) on the hardness and roughness of giomer restoratives based on pre-reacted glass ionomer (PRG) technology. The materials investigated included a regular (Beautifil II [BT]) and a recently introduced injectable (Beautifil Flow Plus F00 [BF]) hybrid PRG composite. A direct hybrid composite (Filtek Z250 [ZT]) and an indirect hybrid composite (Ceramage [CM]) were used for comparison. The materials were placed into customized square molds (5 mm × 5 mm × 2.5 mm), covered with Mylar strips, and cured according to manufacturers' instructions. The materials were then conditioned in air (control), distilled water, 50% ethanol solution, and 0.02 N citric acid at 37°C for seven days. Specimens (n=6) were then subjected to hardness testing (Knoop) and surface profilometry. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and post hoc Scheffe test (p<0.05). Mean Knoop hardness values for the control group (air) ranged from 53.4 ± 3.4 (BF) to 89.5 ± 5.2 (ZT), while mean surface roughness values values ranged from 0.014 ± 0.002 (ZT) to 0.032 ± 0.001 (BT). All materials were significantly softened by FSL. The degree of softening by the different FSLs was material dependent. The hardness of giomers was most affected by citric acid and ethanol. The smoothest surface was generally observed with the control group. Giomer restoratives were significantly roughened by citric acid.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of the bioactive glass, the glass ionomer, and the Erbium YAG laser as liners on the remineralization of the affected dentin. Methods: The present study was conducted on 64 healthy extracted human molars divided into 4 groups, 1 control group and 3 experimental groups. After artificially inducing dentinal caries lesions, each of the experimental groups was applied to the cavity floor and then restored with a composite. The samples were stored after thermocycling in an incubator for two months. Finally, the hardness of the cavity floor was measured at 3 depths of 20, 50 and 100 μm by the Vickers microhardness tester. The dentin conditions underneath the liners were also evaluated with FESEM. Statistical analysis was performed by two-way ANOVA and the post-hoc Games-Howell test (P<0.05). Results: Among the groups, the lowest microhardness value was in the control group (P<0.05) except at a depth of 100 μm; therefore, there was no significant difference between the control group and the bioactive glass (P>0.05). The laser group had the highest microhardness value, which was significantly different from the control group (P<0.05). There was a significant difference between the laser and bioactive glass (P<0.05), except at a depth of 20 μm. The laser and glass ionomer had only a significant difference at a depth of 100 μm (P<0.05). The microhardness value induced by glass ionomer was higher than bioactive glass, which in no depth was significant (P>0.05). Partial dentinal tubule occlusion was observed with FESEM in each of the experimental groups as compared to the control group. Conclusion: The microhardness values were higher in all groups than in the control group. The laser might be more successful in remineralization than the other ones.

Abstrak Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh penurunan prestasi atlet futsal SMA Antartika Sidoarjo. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji pengaruh latihan Ladder Drill dengan metode latihan ascending dan metode latihan descending terhadap peningkatan kecepatan dan kelincahan pada siswa ekstrakurikuler futsal SMA Antartika Sidoarjo. Jenis penelitian dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan metode quasi-experiment. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design yang dilaksanakan dalam 24 kali pertemuan dalam 8 minggu. Instrumen tes kecepatan menggunakan lari 40 meter, sedangkan instrumen kelincahan menggunakan shuttle run test. Analisis data yang digunakan untuk mengolah hasil penelitian menggunakan uji-t, MANOVA, dan Post Hoc dengan uji Scheffe. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan kecepatan dan kelincahan yang signifikan dari metode ascending dan descending. Sedangkan analisis post hoc uji Scheffe tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok ascending dan kelompok descending terhadap kecepatan dan kelincahan. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa kedua metode ascending dan descending, dapat meningkatkan kecepatan dan kelincahan sama baiknya terhadap atlet futsal SMA Antartika Sidoarjo. Abstract This research was motivated by a decrease in the achievement of futsal athletes at SMA Antartika Sidoarjo. This study aims to examine the effect of ladder drill training with ascending training methods and descending training methods on increasing speed and agility in futsal extracurricular students at SMA Antartika Sidoarjo. The type of research in this research is quantitative with a quasi-experimental method. The design used in the study was the Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design which was carried out in 24 meetings in 8 weeks. The speed test instrument uses 40 meters running, while the agility instrument uses the shuttle run test. Analysis of the data used to process the research results using the t-test, MANOVA, and Post Hoc with the Scheffe test. The results showed a significant increase in speed and agility from the ascending and descending methods. While the post hoc analysis of the Scheffe test, there was no significant difference between the ascending and descending groups in terms of speed and agility. The results of this study concluded that both ascending and descending methods can improve speed and agility as well as futsal athletes at SMA Antartika Sidoarjo.

Posterior endodontically treated teeth are exposed to risk fracture due to the great masticatory forces developed in the area. Fiberglass posts are considered a practical solution for such situations, but their main disadvantage yet remains the poor adhesion to the remaining tooth structures. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate a material that could replace the use of fiberglass posts on posterior teeth. 32 premolars were selected and divided into 4 groups (n=8): the first group was considered the control group; the second group was composed of endodontically treated teeth that were filled with gutta-percha, but without any coronal restoration; the third group was composed of teeth that received the same endodontic treatment as in the second group but were restored with a fibreglass post and a light cured microfilled hybrid composite material; the fourth group was similar to the third one, except teeth were restored with a short-fibre-reinforced composite (EverX Posterior, GC Europe N.V., Leuven, Belgium) and a microfilled hybrid composite over it. The fracture resistance of all the teeth was tested using a universal testing device. One-way ANOVA and the Tukey post-hoc variation tests for multiple comparisons were used to analyze the results. The short-fibre-reinforced composite material increased the fracture resistance of endodontically treated teeth (1159.42 N), twice as much as that obtained by using fiberglass posts (522.35 N)). Within the limitations of the present study, EverX Posterior represents a better alternative compared to fiberglass posts in the crown and root reconstruction of posterior endodontically treated teeth.

Aim: To investigate the surface roughness, surface hardness, and solubility of bulk-fill composites after exposure to food-simulating liquids (FSLs). Materials and Methods: A total of 200 disc-shaped samples (8 mm diameter × 4 mm depth) were prepared using four bulk-fill composites (SonicFillTM, Tetric® EvoCeram Bulk Fill, Beautifil-Bulk Restorative, FiltekTM Bulk Fill Posterior Restorative) and a microhybrid composite (FiltekTM Z250) ( n = 40). Following the measurement of initial weights of the samples ( m1), the surface roughness measurements were gauged using a contact-profilometer. The samples were stored in four different FSLs for 7 days, and then the second surface roughness values were recorded. The samples were stored in a desiccator to reach the constant mass and the values were recorded as m2, then the solubility levels were calculated. The Vickers microhardness values of the samples were determined. A total of 20 specimens were evaluated in terms of surface morphology with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Data were statistically analyzed with the two-way ANOVA and Bonferroni tests ( P < .05). Results: Beautifil-Bulk Restorative was affected at most in terms of surface roughness after storage in FSLs and citric acid caused the highest values in this group ( P < .005). Beautifil-Bulk Restorative and Filtek Z250 showed the highest surface hardness values, while the Tetric EvoCeram group had the lowest. The highest solubility values were found in Beautifil-Bulk Restorative, and citric acid and ethanol yielded the highest solubility values for all of the composites. Conclusion: Beautifil-Bulk Restorative is the most affected group in all parameters evaluated and also affected overly by citric acid among the FSLs in consequence of its prereacted glass ionomer fillers.

Pendahuluan: Resin-Modified Glass Ionomer Cement (RMGIC) atau Semen Ionomer Kaca Modifikasi Resin merupakan salah satu bahan restorasi yang digunakan di bidang kedokteran gigi. Pengembangan resin-modified glass ionomer cement dimulai sejak tahun 1967 untuk memperbaiki sifat fisik dan mengurangi sensitivitas air dari glass ionomer cement konvensional. Resin-Modified Glass Ionomer Cement (RMGIC) sebagai bahan kedokteran gigi memiliki beberapa keuntungan yaitu: RMGIC dapat melepaskan fluoride, kekuatan RMGIC lebih besar dibandingkan dengan glass ionomer cement konvensional, dan estetika lebih baik daripada Glass Ionomer Cement. Tujuan Penelitian: Untuk mengetahui pengaruh perendaman susu UHT dan susu sapi segar terhadap resin-modified glass ionomer cement. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Eksperimental Laboratorium yaitu pengujian yang dilakukan di laboratorium dengan bentuk penelitian berupa Pre Test-Post Test with Control Group Design. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan adalah True Eksperimental Laboratorium. Hasil: Berdasarkan uji one way anova sebelum perendaman diperoleh p-valuesebesar 0,795 (p>0,05) Berdasarkan uji one way anova setelah perendaman diperoleh p-value sebesar 0,669 (p>0,05) Berdasarkan uji post hoc multiple comparison diperoleh perbedaan rata-rata antara susu sapi segar dan susu UHT sebesar 0,1114500 , untuk aquades dan susu UHT sebesar -0,022000.  Kesimpulan: Tidak terdapat perubahan yang signifikan terhadap kekasaran resin-modified glass ionomer cement.

Abstract Background: This study aimed to assess the efficacy of titanium brush, 915 nm diode laser, citric acid and the combination of latter two with titanium brush for decontamination of SLA surface mini-implants.Materials and Methods: Seventy-five mini-implants contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) were randomly divided into five experimental groups (n=12) of titanium brush (TiB), laser, citric acid (CA), brush-laser, and brush-acid, positive [n=12; chlorhexidine mouthwash (CHX)] and negative [n=2; phosphate buffered saline (PBS)] control groups and one no-treatment group (n=1). After counting the colony forming units (CFUs), data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn post-hoc tests.Results: Regardless of the no-treatment and negative control groups, maximum and minimum CFUs were noted in the titanium brush and positive control groups. After CHX, minimum CFUs were noted in brush-acid group followed by brush-laser, laser, and acid groups. Generally, the Kruskal-Walli test revealed a significant difference between the groups regarding the colony count (P<0.001). Dunn post-hoc test showed that the difference between the titanium brush and acid-brush group was significant (P<0.001) while the differences between the brush and laser groups with the brush-laser group were not significant (P>0.077).Conclusions: Maximum reduction in colony count was noted in the positive control group. Combination of titanium brush and laser was also effective for decreasing the colony count; however, combined use of titanium brush and citric acid yielded superior results compared to other groups.

The aim of this study was to assess the Knoop hardness of three high viscous glass ionomer cements: G1 - Ketac Molar; G2 - Ketac Molar Easymix (3M ESPE) and G3 - Magic Glass ART (Vigodent). As a parallel goal, three different methods for insertion of Ketac Molar Easymix were tested: G4 - conventional spatula; G5 - commercial syringe (Centrix) and G6 - low-cost syringe. Ten specimens of each group were prepared and the Knoop hardness was determined 5 times on each specimen with a HM-124 hardness machine (25 g/30 s dwell time) after 24 h, 1 and 2 weeks. During the entire test period, the specimens were stored in liquid paraffin at 37ºC. Significant differences were found between G3 and G1/G2 (two-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test; p<0.01). There was no significant difference in the results among the multiple ways of insertion. The glass ionomer cement Magic Glass ART showed the lowest hardness, while the insertion technique had no significant influence on hardness.

AIM: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the leakage of bleaching agents through 3 different bases into the obturated pulp space and dentinal tubules in intra coronal bleaching. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty-five freshly extracted, intact non-carious single rooted teeth were collected and stored in formalin until used. The specimen divided into experimental and control group. Experimental group were further subdivided into 3 subgroups on the base of cervical base materials. Group I was Type II GIC, Group II was Fuji II LC and Group III was Hybrid composite. The control groups was divides into negative group (received the bleaching agent and received complete external coating including access cavity) and positive control group (did not receive any external coating). The obturated pulp space were removed at a level of 3 mm below the cemento enamel junction and filled with dry cotton pellets and temporized with temporary cement, stored at ± 37°C and 100% relative humidity for five days, the bleaching material were placed in the pulp chamber (a paste of sodium perborate i.e. 0.15g and 30% hydrogen peroxide 0.05ml), and then stored for 3 days in an incubator. Later on the teeth were immersed in India ink dye and stored at ± 37°C and 100% relative humidity for 5 days. Specimens were examined under binocular microscope with a stage micrometer to analyze the degree of dye penetration. RESULTS: The minimal leakage values were observed with type II glass ionomer cement followed by light cure glass ionomer cement and lastly by hybrid composite. CONCLUSION: The present invitro investigation evaluated the microleakage observed with different cervical base materials during non-vital bleaching procedures.

Background: Clobazam (CLBZ) metabolized primarily by Cytochrome P-450 isoenzyme CYP3A4 than with CYP2C19, Whereas Levetiracetam (LEV) is metabolized by hydrolysis of the acetamide group. Few CYP enzymes are inhibited by Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) Pantoprazole, Esomeprazole, and Rabeprazole in different extents that could affect drug concentrations in blood. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of these PPIs on the plasma concentrations of LEV and CLBZ. Methods: Blood samples from 542 patients were included out of which 343 were male and 199 were female patients and were categorized as control and test. Plasma samples analyzed using an HPLC-UV method. Plasma concentrations were measured and compared to those treated and those not treated with PPIs. One way ANOVA and games Howell post hoc test used by SPSS 20 software. Results: CLBZ concentrations were significantly 10 folds higher in patients treated with Pantoprazole (P=0.000) and 07 folds higher in patients treated with Esmoprazole and Rabeprazole (P=0.00). Whereas plasma concentration of LEV control group has no statistical and significant difference when compared to pantoprazole (P=0.546) and with rabeprazole and esomeprazole was P=0.999. Conclusion: The effect of comedication with PPIs on the plasma concentration of clobazam is more pronounced for pantoprazole to a greater extent when compared to esomeprazole and rabeprazole. When pantoprazole is used in combination with clobazam, dose reduction of clobazam should be considered, or significance of PPIs is seen to avoid adverse effects.

We investigated the effect of a multidomain lifestyle intervention on the risk of dementia estimated using the validated CAIDE risk score (post-hoc analysis). The Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER) is a 2-year randomized controlled trial among 1,260 at-risk older adults (60–77 years). Difference in the estimated mean change in CAIDE score at 2 years in the intervention compared to the control group was –0.16 (95 %CI –0.31 to 0.00) (p = 0.013), corresponding to a relative dementia risk reduction between 6.04–6.50%. This could be interpreted as a reflection of the prevention potential of the intervention.
