<em>The purpose of this research was to know the suitable food for snake head fry rearing. This research used experimental method with completely randomized design with three treatment: A (used Artemia sp.), B (used Daphnia sp.) and C (used Tubifex sp.), each treatment was replicated 3 replication. Major parameters was growth rate and specific growth rate while minor parameters was temperature, dissolved oxygen and pH. The result showed that treatment C which used Tubifex as feed resulted the highest growth rate with 1.25 %/day and also the highest of spesific growth rate was resulted from treatment C which used Tubifex as feed with 1.39 %/day. This was caused that protein content in Tubifex was the highest than in Artemia and Daphnia (63.05 %). Protein was the major nutrient that affected fish growth performance. Protein supplied essential and non essential acid amino that needed to muscle formation and enzimatic function, beside that protein also had a role to energy availability preservation. The result of water quality measurement showed that water quality was suitable for snake head fry growth. Water quality toward that temperature between 20 oC - 27 oC, DO 3 - 4,50 mg/L and pH range from 5 to 8.42</em>

Abstract. Syahrinudin, Hartati W, Sudarmadji T, Krisdianto N, Ibrahim. 2019. Biochar enriched with organic fertilizer improves the survival and growth rate of Anthocepalus cadamba seedlings planted on degraded spodosols. Biodiversitas 20: 3741-3750. The application of biochar for the improvement of soil properties and fertility has drawn enormous interest worldwide nowadays and numerous application options are now available. This research was aimed to evaluate the effects of the application of biochar and organic fertilizers on the survival and growth of Anthocepalus cadamba seedlings planted on degraded spodosols soil on bioassay trial in the nursery. Bioassay trial was carried out in the nursery of Faculty of Forestry, Mulawarman University, Samarinda, Indonesia, employing a 2-factors Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with factor 1 was the rate of biochar application (i.e. six levels of treatment: 0 (control), 2, 5, 10, 25 and 100%v of biochar), and factor 2 (enrichment of organic fertilizers, i.e. with enrichment and without enrichment), and each treatment combination had 3 replications. The results showed that biochar application alone improved height and diameter growth rate of A. cadamba seedlings by 253% and 116% of control treatment (without biochar), respectively. Enrichment of organic fertilizers gave further improvement in height and diameter growth rate of A. cadamba seedlings to 386% and 150% of control treatment (without biochar), respectively. Furthermore, biochar application improved survival and biomass growth rate of the seedlings. Enrichment of organic fertilizers into biochar improved not only seedling growth rate but also more interestingly the carrying capacity of spodosols to biochar application rate. We concluded that biochar application complemented with enrichment of organic fertilizers on spodosols is highly promising for the improvement of both soil carbon sequestration and plant growth performance.

Status:PostprintOrganic fertilizer is capable to decrease the use of in-organic fertilizer due to release of plant nutrients and improvement of other soil properties. The objective of this experiment was to compare the growth and yield of green mustard as affected by cattle manure and litter compost. The experiment was conducted employing Completely Randomized Design with 8 treatments. Treatments included litter compost and cattle manure at rate of 25 Mg ha-1 and 15, 20, 25 Mg ha-1 with addition of 1.85 g nitrogen per plant, respectively. Each treatment was replicated 5 times. Soil used in this experiment was Ultisol collected at depth of 0-20 cm. Five kg of soil was mixed with organic fertilizer according to each treatment and placed in 10 kg polybag. Green mustard was planted to each polybag. Nitrogen fertilizer was applied a week after planting. The experiment revealed that application of litter compost and cattle compost at rate 25 Mg ha-1 with additional nitrogen fertilizer resulted in higher green mustard fresh weight per plant and number of leaves. On the other hand, application of both organic fertilizers at rate of 25 Mg ha-1 without addition nitrogen fertilizer as other treatments did not provide significant differences on most variables observed. This indicated that use of in-organic fertilizer (nitrogen) was able to be reduced in green mustard cultivation by applying organic fertilizer.
