The Quran contains the basic principles of science and civilization. These sciences include natural science and mathematics. The study of mathematics covers algebra, statistics, logic, geometry, measurement, and others. This research aimed to examine the verses of the Quran, which contain geometry and measurement concepts. This research employed the descriptive-qualitative method with library research design. This research revealed that the Quran contains five concepts of geometry: three concepts of line and two concepts of angle. Meanwhile, the Quran also contains fourteen concepts of measurement: six units of time, five units of weight, two units of area, and two units of length or distance.

AbstrakArsitektur dari suatu bangsa, pada suatu masa sering berbeda-beda, baik dalam hal bentuk maupun konsep-konsep yang melandasinya. Hal ini tentu disebabkan adanya perbedaan kebudayaan dari suatu masyarakat dengan masyarakat lainnya. Setiap suku bangsa biasanya akan menunjukkan identitas budayanya melalui benda-benda budaya yang mereka buat. Demikian halnya masyarakat Dayak Kanayatn memiliki ciri tersendiri dalam bentuk arsitektur bangunan khususnya bangunan rumah tinggal. Bentuk arsitektur masyarakat Dayak Kanayat’n yang tinggal di Desa Sahapm tercermin dalam bentuk Rumah Betang atau Rumah Panjang dan hingga kini masih dijaga dan dihuni oleh masyarakat. Bentuk rumah Betang juga menunjukkan hidup kebersamaan bagi penghuninya. Dalam  Rumah panjang atau Rumah Betang mereka berinteraksi antara bilik yang satu dengan bilik yang lainnya. Tujuan penulisan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk arsitektur Rumah Betang dan keberadaannya pada saat ini, selain itu penelitian ini juga  mendeskripsikan kehidupan masyarakat di Rumah Betang. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan tehnik pengamatan dan wawancara dalam menggali data di lapangan serta studi kepustakaan sebagai menggali bahan untuk menulis. AbstractThe nation has a diverse architecture, both in terms of form as well as the underlying concepts. The diversity of architecture due to differences in the culture of a society. Each tribe will usually show its cultural identity through cultural objects that they create. Similarly with Kanayatn Dayak community has its own characteristics in the architecture, especially residential buildings. Architectural form of the Dayak people who live in the village Dayak Kanayat'n reflected in the form of Rumah Betang or Rumah Panjang and is still maintained and inhabited by people. Betang shapes also showed live together or togetherness. The people who lived in Rumah Panjang interact with each other in one room to other room. The main purposes of this study is to describe the architectural form and its existence today. In addition, this study describe betang people's lives at home. The method used is descriptive-qualitative method using the techniques of observation and interviews to collect data in the field and library research.

The research aims to describe the functions of humor used in an American comedy movie The Boss. The subject of the research was American comedy movie The Boss. Descriptive qualitative method was used to conduct the research. Data collection was done through library research and documentation. Data analysis was done through identification, coding, classification and description. The researcher found several findings. Supported by Meyers theory of joke, there are 6 functions of jokes found in the movie such as to insult someone, to express anger, to tease someone, to relieve tension, to get attention, and to amuse others. The dominant function was differentiation particularly to insult and to express anger 21 times, the second was clarification particularly to relieve tension humorous lines and amuse others 15 times, the third was enforcement particularly to tease 18 times, and the last was identification particularly to relieve tension and to get attention 27 times. These functions were also analyzed and discriminated by different setting and participant based on formality and participants distance. According to the analysis, most jokes occurred in informal situation with intimate relationship among the participants and functioned to tease someone and to relieve tension. This finding also proves that American humor is expressed with more slapstick and vulgarity as the characteristic of American humor used in daily communication. Dysphemism is an expression with connotations that are offensive either about the denotatum or the audience. It is used to talk about one’s opponents, things one wishes to show disapproval of, and things one wishes to be seen to downgrade. The topic of dysphemism is crucial to investigate because dysphemism is the infraction of the rules of politeness that deals with the matters of face and face effects.This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The approach used in this research is library research. Data taken from taking notes and observation.This article is written to explain dysphemism in the perspective of Semantics, Sociolinguistics, and Discourse Analysis.

The writer conducts the research related to class conflict which is presented in Khaled Hosseini’s “The Kite Runner” novel. This qualitative research is written to analyze the conflicts that happen in Afghan society which is mainly caused by difference of social class. The research is conducted by using library research. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method as the data are described in the form of sentences. The steps of collecting the data in this research are reading both the novel and the supporting theories related, analyzing, organizing and displaying the data to allow conclusions to be drawn. The results show that the society in the twentieth is fundamentally separated by two large groups namely Pashtun and Hazara. They are inhabit Afghanistan as told in The Kite Runner. The Pashtuns act as the dominant upper class and the Hazaras fill the society of the lower class which fits the theory of Marxism.

AbstractThis research is entitled An Analysis of Figurative Language in Taylor Swift's song lyrics it aims to know the types of figurative language that are used in Taylor swift lyrics and describe the contextual meaning of the figurative language used in Taylor's lyrics. The research data is obtained from two songs from one albumof Taylor Swift. The album titled Red with three songs taken entitles Red and 22. This research uses descriptive qualitative method in observation and library research in collecting data of this research. Figurative language found consists of simile, metaphor, hyperbole, paradox, irony and personification. In this research, these findingsshow that hyperbole is the most dominant in Taylor Swift’s song and based on the contextual meaning of overall song lyrics of Taylor Swift tell about conflict, pain heart and deeply treachery.Keywords: song, lyric, figurative language, contextual meaning

This paper discusses about verb clean activity using water in Balinese. Unlike Indonesian that are only have less variation words to clean human body like mandi and keramas. Balinese has some more variations to say specific meaning for clean using water. From this phenomenon, the verbs are interested to discuss particularly using theory of Natural Semantic Metalanguage by Anna Weirzbicka’s in her book entitled Semantics: Primes and Universal which was published by Oxford University in 1996.This paper was analyzed using Descriptive Qualitative Method and did both library and field research method. Library research had done by finding the verbs in Balinese books and articles. Afterwards field research did with observation with asking some Balinese speakers. Five words are found to clean a human body; Mambuh (For cleaning hair), Mesugi (face) etc. Meanwhile one word (ngumbah) is neutral??. It means the word can be used to describe in human body and non-human body.Then the last, there are two words in Balinese which were found to describe cleaning activity using water in Balinese to clean something or the activity which not to clean human body like nyusud and ngepel.

This paper is entitled Analysis of Slangs Used by Characters in Movie Script “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell”. The aims of this study are to identify and classify based on the types of slang word, this paper also described the context of situation of slang used in the movie script I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell. The data source was taken from the movie script I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell (2009). The data collection was conducted through library research method and note taking technique. The first step was done through reading attentively, noting the slang word, and classifying based on the types of slang and context of situation. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method with the theory of Allan and Burridge (2006) for types of slang and theory of context of situation proposed by Holmes (2013). The result of analysis shows that there are four types of slang used by character in I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell movie script. Meanwhile, for the context of situation there are four components. The meaning behind each slang words and phrases in I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell movie script depends on the context of situation. Besides, the interpretation of meaning takes important roles in the analysis.

This study describes anthropomorphism that contains ethics and values education within East Nusa Tenggara folktales in Indonesia. The study explored the data on anthropomorphism based on the students’ textbooks of the local content subject, “Pengetahuan Lingkungan dan Sosial Budaya Daerah Nusa Tenggara Timur Sekolah Dasar Kelas 2” and“Cerita Rakyat Nusa Tenggara Timur Sekolah Dasar Kelas 6”. The textbooks containing the folktales were published in 2012 by CV Jala Makmur – Kupang. There were 20 folktales in the textbooks, but the anthropomorphisms investigated were only within four folktales, in which the animals behaving like human beings. The study was library research based, using a descriptive qualitative method. The study applied a moral approach since the value of anthropomorphism is to educate the readers. The results of this study showed that there were eight values to learn in Hoga Woe, three in Nenek Bupu Repu, five in Asu Nok Maleobibi, and five in Dhone dan Kaju. This study concludes that folktales can be one of the teaching and learning materials for introducing morals, attitudes, and good judgments to the young students in ethics and values education. In addition, folktales can be developed into plays, from which the students can play the characters in order to easily absorb moral education in a fun and interesting way.

Self-identity is an aspect that every human in the world has. Without it, a person is in danger of being negatively affected by those around him/her and by the outside world. Some people are grappling with this identity-forming phase in their search for self-definition. This is reflected in Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. Therefore, this research aims to describe the main characters' search for self-identity as seen in the novel. The type of this research was library research. This research applied a psychological approach, and the data were analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that Kathy and Tommy's quest to find their true selves occurred in childhood, adolescence, and adulthood stages. Narrated by Kathy, she flashed back the memories of how they, Kathy and Tommy, are puzzled because of too many mysteries in Hailsham, the boarding school where they live. They connected each puzzle which could be the answer. But, in the novel, the question they belong to for being different brought them to another question. The process of findings itself flowed as long as they grew. In the end, they found information about their identity as a clone and as an individual.

This study investigated the values and symbols within the traditional festival of Pujawali (Perang Topat) in West Lombok village of Lingsar and the relation between the values and symbols and tourism. The “perang” or war uses “ketupat” made from rice boiled in plaited coconut leaves as a weapon. The existence of the tradition nowadays becomes more popular. This tradition is not only about local celebration, but more about values and symbols beyond it. This study employed descriptive qualitative method, using interviews, observations and library research as techniques to collect data. The interviewees were the older members of two communities of Hindu and Muslim in Lingsar village. The finding indicated that Pujawali contains values, including historical, religious, and social values, and contains symbols of tolerance, brotherhood, and solidarity. The study suggests that the values and symbol which are represented in the traditional festival reflect the characteristics of Lingsar people—diverse but united.
