As an adaptive behavior, career exploration needs to be developed in vocational students who have difficulty in getting a job. The more career-related information obtained, the more likely it is for them to find the right job or the one that has the desired impact. To develop career exploration behavior in vocational students, it is necessary to know the factors that play a role in improving career exploration behavior. This study examined the mediating role of career decision self-efficacy in the relationship between parenting styles and career exploration behavior. Participants in this study were 824 senior vocational high school students from nine schools in Jakarta and Depok. The Parental Authority Questionnaire, Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form, and Career Exploration Survey were used to measure parenting styles, career decision self-efficacy and career exploration behavior. The results showed that career decision self-efficacy fully mediated the influenced of authoritative parenting styles in mothers and fathers on career exploration behavior in vocational students. Interestingly, the authoritarian parenting style was also found to have a positive and significant influence on career exploration behavior in vocational students. The implication and limitation are discussed.   Sebagai perilaku adaptif, eksplorasi karier perlu dikembangkan pada siswa kejuruan yang mengalami kesulitan dalam mendapatkan pekerjaan. Semakin banyak informasi tentang karier yang diperoleh, semakin mungkin bagi mereka untuk menemukan pekerjaan yang tepat atau pekerjaan yang membawa dampak yang diinginkan. Untuk mengembangkan perilaku eksplorasi karier pada siswa kejuruan, maka perlu diketahui faktor-faktor yang berperan dalam mengembangkan perilaku eksplorasi karier. Studi ini menguji peran efikasi-diri keputusan karier dalam memediasi hubungan antara pola asuh orangtua dan eksplorasi karier. Partisipan dalam studi ini merupakan 824 siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan dari sembilan sekolah di Jakarta dan Depok. Untuk mengukur pola asuh orangtua, efikasi-diri keputusan karier, dan eksplorasi karier, penelitian ini menggunakan Parental Authority Questionnaire, Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale Short-Form, dan Career Exploration Survey. Hasil uji menunjukkan bahwa efikasi-diri keputusan karier memediasi secara penuh pengaruh pola asuh otoritatif dari ayah dan ibu terhadap eksplorasi karier siswa kejuruan. Menariknya, penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa pola asuh otoritarian berpengaruh positif terhadap eksplorasi karier siswa kejuruan. Abstract This study aimed to determine the correlation of career decision-making self-efficacy and career decision making. The hypothesis of this study that there is a correlation between self-efficacy and career decision making. Subjects in this study are 405 high school students in Jakarta. This study used quantitative research methods and data collection using CDSE-SF (Career Decision Self Efficacy- Short Form) and CDS (Career Decision Scale) which has been translated into Indonesian. The result of the reliability test for CDSE-SF scale was 0.840 and 0.866 for CDS scale. The result validity test of CDSE-SF from 0.310 to 0.551; while CDS of 0.334 to 0.641. The process of data analysis using SPSS 17 applications, Pearson product moment correlation. These results contrast with the hypothesis, there was no correlation between career decision making self-efficacy and career decision making (r = 0.094, p> 0.05). It can be concluded that the proposed hypothesis is rejected. This study has contributed in the field of educational psychology research additions adolescent career.Keywords: career decision-making self-efficacy, career decision making

This present study aimed to analyze the role of self-oriented perfectionism in mediating the effect of fathers’ and mothers’ parenting styles on Career Decision Self-Efficacy (CDSE) among students in Grade 11 Senior High School. The participants of the study comprised 179 students who were selected through convenience sampling method. This study employed three instruments, namely Career Decision Self-Efficacy Short Form, Parental Authority Questionnaire, and Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale. Data were analyzed by Hayes’s PROCESS Macro. Generally, the results show that fathers’ permissive parenting and mothers’ authoritarian parenting have an influence on the degree of CDSE among students which is mediated by self-oriented perfectionism. Moreover, the effect of fathers’ authoritative parenting predicts CDSE directly without the mediation effect of self-oriented perfectionism, whilst mothers’ authoritative parenting influences CDSE both directly and indirectly. Therefore, considering the actualization of proper parenting styles is necessary in order to build perfectionism personality which supports students’ effectiveness in career decision making.Keywords: Career decision self-efficacy, parenting styles, self-oriented perfectionism, studentsAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran perfeksionisme orientasi diri dalam memediasi pengaruh gaya pengasuhan ayah dan ibu terhadap Efikasi Keputusan Diri Keputusan Karir (Career Decision Self-Efficacy/CDSE)  siswa kelas XI SMA. Sebanyak 178 partisipan terkumpul melalui teknik convenience sampling dalam pengisian tiga macam skala, yaitu Career Decision Self-Efficacy Short Form, Parental Authority Questionnaire, dan Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale yang sudah dilakukan adaptasi ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan PROCESS Macro dari Hayes. Secara umum, hasil uji menemukan bahwa gaya pengasuhan permisif ayah dan gaya pengasuhan otoriter ibu berpengaruh terhadap tingkat CDSE siswa melalui perfeksionisme orientasi diri. Sementara itu, pengaruh dari gaya pengasuhan otoritatif ayah terhadap tingkat CDSE siswa hanya terjadi secara langsung. Adapun pengaruh dari gaya pengasuhan otoritatif ibu terhadap tingkat CDSE siswa dapat terjadi baik secara langsung atau tidak langsung melalui mediasi perfeksionisme orientasi diri. Untuk itu, dengan penerapan gaya pengasuhan yang tepat, perkembangan pribadi perfeksionisme siswa dapat mendukung kenaikan efektivitas keputusan karier masa depan.

An earthquake struck Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia in 2019, and Sigi Regency was one of the most affected areas. Based on a psychological perspective, studies were significant to understand how earthquakes impacted Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. This study aimed to examine the effect of social support on CDSE (Career Decision Self-Efficacy). As many as 141 high school students as the earthquake victims in Sigi filled out the Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale Short-Form (CDMSES-SF) and Adolescent Social Support Scale (ASSS). The data were analyzed using the multiple regression approach in IBM SPSS Software Version 23.00. The findings showed that teachers’ social support successfully enhanced CDSE. Also, CDSE was significantly affected by social support received from peers. On the other hand, this study confirmed that there was no significant effect of parents’ social support on CDSE. The results contributed to the career counseling program for high school students by taking into account teachers’ and peers’ social support.

Abstract –Adolescence is an important period for career development. Parent support and adolescent’s skills in seeking career opportunities from unexpected encounters contribute to adolescent’s self-efficacy in career decision making. The present study examined the mediating role of planned happenstance in the relationship between career-related parent support and self-efficacy in career decision making among junior high school students. Participants comprised of 136 junior high school students. The instrument used in this study were the Indonesian translations of Career-Related Parent Support Scale, Career Decision Self-Efficacy-Short Form, and Planned Happenstance Career Inventory. Results suggested that career-related parent support affects career decision-making self-efficacy directly or through the mediation of planned happenstance. The study concludes by outlining the importance of future studies to analyze the relationship between career-related parent support and planned happenstance. Abstrak — Masa remaja merupakan masa yang sangat penting dalam pengembangan karier. Dukungan orang tua dan juga keterampilan remaja dalam memanfaatkan peristiwa tak terduga sebagai peluang karier memengaruhi efikasi diri dalam membuat keputusan karier. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran planned happenstance dalam memediasi hubungan career-related parent support dan efikasi diri pengambilan keputusan karier pada siswa SMP. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari 136 siswa SMP. Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah Career-Related Parent Support Scale, Career Decision Self-Efficacy-Short Form, dan Planned Happenstance Career Inventory yang diadaptasi ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa career-related parent support memengaruhi efikasi diri pengambilan keputusan karier secara langsung maupun melalui mediasi planned happenstance. Penelitian selanjutnya dapat menganalisis hubungan career-related parent support dan planned happenstance.

In this study, the role of a proactive personality as a mediator in the relationship between parental involvement and self-efficacy in high school students’ career decisions was examined. The participants included 758 grade 11 students in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek). The instrument that used in this study are Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale Short Form (CDSES-SF), Parent Career Behavior Checklist (PCBC), and Proactive Personality Scale (PPS). The results revealed that a proactive personality partially mediates the relationship between parental support and parental action with self-efficacy in career decisions. Furthermore, parental support and parental action directly influence self-efficacy in career decisions.

In facing the industrial 4.0 era, adolescents, especially high school students, need to complement their knowledge and skills learnt from school with behaviors that can help their career journey, namely the career exploration behavior (CEB). Referring to the triadic reciprocal determinism theory and gender role in Indonesian culture, this study aimed to examine the effect of parenting styles and gender on CEB. Specifically, this study examined the effect of paternal and maternal parenting styles on CEB in adolescent and compared its effect on boys and girls. Participants in this study were 427 boys and 397 girls with an average age of 17 from nine high schools. Career Exploration Survey and Parental Authority Questionnaire were used to assess participants’ CEB, and paternal and maternal parenting styles. Regression analysis showed different patterns effect of paternal and maternal parenting styles on CEB between boys and girls. For boys, parenting that was found to improve CEB were paternal authoritative parenting and maternal authoritarian parenting, while for girls, parenting that was found to improve CEB were paternal authoritarian parenting and maternal authoritative parenting. These results indicated that boys and girls need different parenting factors from father and mother. Limitation and suggestion are discussed.
