A version of using "sliding modes" in performing discontinuous control of dynamic objects for matrix frequency converters (MFC) as part of an on-board aircraft network is proposed. Unlike the way used in the existing MFC control algorithms, the sinusoidal voltages available in the primary network are processed according to the proposed modernized technology of "sliding modes". The level of discontinuous voltages is selected from the condition of minimum deviations from the target, which has a favorable effect on the spectrum of output voltages. On the selected time interval, the input primary network phase voltages and the specified output network phase voltages are sampled. A positive minimum difference between the primary network phase voltage closest to its desired value and the specified secondary network phase voltage is produced. This difference acts as a positive discontinuous control. A negative difference acts as a negative discontinuous control. Over the calculated interval, the average deviation from the specified phase voltage is zero. Owing to this feature, the smallest distortions in the MFC output voltage spectrum are obtained at arbitrary loads and evolutions of the primary network voltage frequency and amplitude. Versions of three-phase and six-phase primary sources are considered. The effectiveness of the proposed version of using "sliding modes" has been confirmed by simulation.

The use of static frequency converters, which have a high switching frequency, generates voltage pulses with a high rate of change over time. In combination with cable and motor impedance, this generates repetitive overvoltage at the motor terminals, influencing the occurrence of partial discharges between conductors, causing degradation of the insulation of electric motors. Understanding the effects resulting from the frequency converter–electric motor interaction is essential for developing and implementing insulation systems with characteristics that support the most diverse applications, have an operating life under economically viable conditions, and promote energy efficiency. With this objective, a search was carried out in three recognized databases. Duplicate articles were eliminated, resulting in 1069 articles, which were systematically categorized and reviewed, resulting in 481 articles discussing the causes of degradation in the insulation of electric motors powered by frequency converters. A bibliographic portfolio was built and evaluated, with 230 articles that present results on the factors that can be used in estimating the life span of electric motor insulation. In this structure, the historical evolution of the collected information, the authors who conducted the most research on the theme, and the relevance of the knowledge presented in the works were considered.

The article analyzes the methods for compensating for higher harmonics in the ship network of the unified electric power system (UEPS), in which the main electric power consumers are electric propulsion systems (EPS). Three compensation schemes for higher harmonics created by uncontrolled rectifiers that are part of frequency converters are considered. Computer simulation of a fragment of the UEPS structure patented by Siemens, an 18-pulse rectifier circuit, and also circuits with two 12-pulse rectifiers were carried out. The simulation results showed that in the Siemens UEPS structure, a propulsive transformer provides compensation for only a part of the higher harmonics, due to which, voltage waveform distortions in the ship network can be significant. The circuit, containing two 12-pulse rectifiers, as well as a three-phase transformer with four three-phase windings having a phase shift of 15 electrical degrees, showed the best current quality indicators, providing effective compensation for 5, 7, 11, 13 harmonic components of the current. The proposed circuit with two 12-pulse rectifiers allows the use of three-level autonomous voltage inverters, which are characterized by high quality current in the windings of the propeller motor, as part of the frequency converter.

We report a broadband microwave frequency converter based on a coherent Kerr optical micro-comb generated by an integrated micro-ring resonator. The coherent micro-comb displays features that are consistent with soliton crystal dynamics with an FSR of 48.9-GHz. We use this to demonstrate a high-performance millimeter-wave local oscillator at 48.9-GHz in the Q-band for microwave frequency conversion. We experimentally verify the microwave performance up to 40 GHz, achieving a ratio of −6.8 dB between output RF power and IF power and a spurious suppression ratio of > 43.5 dB. The experimental results show good agreement with theory and verify the effectiveness of microwave frequency converters based on coherent optical micro-combs, with the ability to achieve reduced size, complexity, and potential cost.

Efficient and compact frequency converters are essential for frequency stabilization of terahertz sources. In this paper, we present a 3.5-THz, x6-harmonic, integrated Schottky diode mixer operating at room temperature. The designed frequency converter is based on a single-ended, planar Schottky diode with a sub-micron anode contact area defined on a suspended 2-um ultra-thin GaAs substrate. The dc-grounded anode pad was combined with the radio frequency E-plane probe, which resulted in an electrically compact circuit. At 200 MHz intermediate frequency, a mixer conversion loss of about 59 dB is measured resulting in a 40 dB signal-to-noise ratio in a phase-locking application. Using a quasi-static diode model combined with electromagnetic simulations, good agreement with the measured results was obtained. Harmonic frequency converters without the need of cryogenic cooling will help in the realization of highly sensitive space and air-borne heterodyne receivers.<br>

The example of judicial construction and technical examination of the constructed water intake well in one of settlements is considered in this article. The analysis of failures occurred during the operation of the newly built water intake well was carried out. The point moments on the quality and timing of the work performed there are often disputable when putting objects into operation. If these questions cannot be resolved by mutual agreement of the parties, their decision is transferred to the courts, which appoint judicial construction and technical expertise. The type of judicial engineering and technical expertise, judicial construction and technical expertise plays an important and sometimes decisive role in legal proceedings, including the consideration of civil disputes in courts of General jurisdiction and arbitration courts. Judicial construction and technical expertise was appointed on the basis of the decision of the arbitration court for a new water intake well built in one of the settlements of the Kursk region. The reason for the appointment of the examination is that this well has ceased to provide the planned flow rate, and the produced water meet the quality requirements. Two main reasons led to the decline in the technological characteristics of the well and the deterioration of the quality of the produced water: the wrong choice of the pumping unit and the lack of a water tower on the network. The selected ECV 6-16-140 pump created excess pressure in the network, which was then reduced by the installed automation (frequency Converter), and accordingly the well flow rate decreased. The use of frequency converters is not always useful, but can even have a harmful effect on the operation of the water supply system. In addition to reducing the flow rate, the operation of the frequency Converter caused the combustion of several pumps operating in unacceptable modes. The work of the frequency Converter installed on the pump unit with overestimated characteristics led to the turbidity of the produced water, there was an uneven consumption of water from the well.

Abstract This paper proposes the use of a frequency converter used in the AC motor drives to build a fast charging battery converter for electric vehicles (EV). The possibility of using semiconductor integrated modules with two-level inverters and diode rectifiers for the construction of high power voltage DC/DC converters has been demonstrated. The DC voltage of the EV battery during charging is obtained by rectifying the three-phase voltage of the PWM inverter. A 600 V DC microgrid was used to power the inverter. Simulation tests of the DC/DC converter model were carried out. The results of simulation tests were verified experimentally on a laboratory stand.
