Abstract: This study investigated the principals’ communication styles and school culture in vocational colleges in Selangor. A total of 244 teachers involved in this study. Data was collected using Google Form due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This study adapted questionnaires known as “Principals’ Communication Styles Questionnaire for Teachers” (PCSQT) and Revised School Culture Element Questionnaire (RSCEQ) and employed a correlational research design. The findings revealed that most of the dominant communication styles practiced by the principals at vocational colleges in Selangor was assertive communication style. The results also showed that the level of school culture at vocational colleges in Selangor was high based on three factors which are shared leadership and vision, collegial teaching and learning, and professional commitment. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was used to investigate the relationship between principals’ communication styles and school culture. The results showed a moderately significant relationship between principals’ communication styles and school culture at vocational colleges in Selangor. In short, when principals are proven to be good role models for teachers, it is also important to enhance on the effective communication with useful tools and application for a highly needed leadership competency to enable them to work with teachers of varying characteristics.   Keywords: Communication styles; School Culture; Vocational Colleges

This study aims to research the mediating effect of customer reliability in the relationship of the beauty professionals' communication styles and the intention to revisit to increase the reliability and revisitation of the customers who use beauty services. A self-administered survey with 23 questions related to general characteristics, communication styles, customer reliability, and intention to revisit was given to 413 customers. Through SPSS 20.0, frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, regression analysis, and mediation regression analysis were performed. The result showed that communication style has 3 factors: cooperation type, control type, and professional type and that the customer reliability and the intention to revisit drew single factors, respectively. And all the effects of the beauty professionals' communication style on the customer reliability, the customer reliability on the intention to revisit, and the communication style on the intention to revisit appeared to have a positive effect. Also, the customer reliability showed the mediating effect in the relationship between cooperation type and the intention to revisit. And in the relationship of control type, professional type, and intention to revisit, by the full mediation effect, the customer reliability appeared to work as an essential variable in the relationship of communication style and intention to revisit. Based on this result, the author expects that this study can help expand the training for the communication style that fits the beauty service environment and create profits with the competitiveness reinforcement by the strategy development of proper service training and marketing for beauty professionals.

Kualiti pengajaran telah menjadi salah satu agenda penting bagi universiti di dunia. Pengajaran yang baik dan berkualiti bukan hanya menjadi tanggungjawab pensyarah, malah ia menjadi kritikal dalam menentukan kredibiliti sesebuah universiti. Salah satu daripada konsep yang penting dalam proses dan aktiviti pengajaran ialah konsepsi pengajaran. Konsepsi pengajaran menjadi dasar dalam memotivasikan tindakan pensyarah semasa pengajaran dalam kelas dan juga di luar kelas. Konsepsi pengajaran seseorang pensyarah merupakan satu ‘model’ dalam mindanya berkenaan amalan, konteks dan tujuan mengajar yang mempengaruhi perancangan, membuat keputusan dan tindakan mereka. Persoalan yang dikaji dalam artikel ini ialah apakah konsepsi pengajaran dan persepsi persekitaran pengajaran pensyarah, serta bagaimanakah hubungan antara kedua–duanya. Seramai 313 orang pensyarah daripada Universiti Teknologi Malaysia terlibat dalam kajian ini. Data diperolehi menggunakan soal selidik Lecturer’s Conception of Teaching and Learning dan Perception of Teaching Environment. Keputusan menunjukkan kebanyakan pensyarah lebih cenderung kepada konsepsi pengajaran orientasi memudahkan pembelajaran berbanding orientasi pemindahan ilmu pengetahuan, serta mempunyai persepsi yang positif terhadap persekitaran pengajaran mereka. Kata kunci: Konsepsi pengajaran, persekitaran pengajaran The quality of teaching has become one of the important agenda for universities all over the world. Good and quality teaching are not only the responsibility of lecturers, but it is critical towards the quality of a university. One of the important concepts in the learning processes and activities is ‘teaching conceptions’. Teaching conceptions is fundamental in motivating lecturers’ actions during lectures and also outside class when interacting with students. Teaching conceptions is considered a ‘model’ in lecturers’ mind regarding their practise, contexts and motives in teaching that influence their actions, planning and decision making. This article discussed lecturers’ teaching conceptions, their perceptions towards their teaching environment and, the relationship between lecturers’ teaching conceptions and their teaching environment. A total of 313 Universiti Teknologi Malaysia lecturers were involved in the study. Data were collected using Lecturer’s Conception of Teaching and Learning and, Perception of Teaching Environment questionnaires. Result showed that majority of the lecturers are inclined towards the learning facilitation orientation compared to the knowledge transmission orientation of teaching conceptions and, have positive perceptions towards their teaching environment. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana gaya kepemimpinan  KH Dede Saepudin dalam meningkatkan kinerja Asatidz di Pondok Pesantren Al-Mua’awanah. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini yaitu melalui observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumentasi. Adapun analisis data dilakukan melalui penafsiran logika yang dihubungkan dengan konteks Manajemen Dakwah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: Pertama, Gaya Komunikasi KH. Dede Saepudin dalam meningkatkan kinerja asatidz Pondok Pesantren Al-Mu’awanah menggunakan dua gaya komunikasi, yaitu gaya komunikasi satu arah kepada para santri dalam proses belajar mengajar dengan metode sorogan, setoran hafalan dan ceramah.; Kedua, Jenis pemberian motivasi yang digunakan oleh KH. Dede Saepudin kepada para asatidz adalah motivasi positif yang berupa non-materiil berupa dukungan sosial dan psikologis berupa pendekatan face to face dan musyawarah keluarga setiap bulannya.; Ketiga, Proses pengawasan KH. Dede Saepudin terhadap kinerja asatidz dilakukan dengan cara melihat dari segi kehadiran dan peningkatan belajar santri yang akan dibahas dalam musyawarah keluarga setiap bulannya.   This study aims to find out how the style of KH Dede Saepudin's leadership in improving Asatidz's performance at Al-Mua'awanah Islamic Boarding School. This research method uses descriptive method. Data collection techniques in this study are through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The data analysis is carried out through the interpretation of logic which is related to the context of Da'wah Management. The results showed that: First, Communication Style KH. Dede Saepudin in improving the performance of asatidz Al-Mu'awanah Islamic Boarding School using two communication styles, namely the one-way communication style to the students in the teaching and learning process with the sorogan method, rote deposit and lecture; Second, the type of motivation given by KH. Dede Saepudin to the asatidz is a positive motivation in the form of non-material in the form of social and psychological support in the form of a face to face approach and family deliberations every month; Third, the supervision process of KH. Dede Saepudin on the performance of asatidz is carried out by looking at the presence and improvement of students' learning which will be discussed in family meetings every month.

This research is based on the phenomenon that is happening related to the relationship between teacher role models with disciplinary behavior and the influence of role models on student disciplinary behavior. This research is quantitative with descriptive correlational research. The sample in this study replaced 272 students who were determined through a proportional stratified random sampling technique. The instruments used were the teacher’s exemplary questionnaire and student disciplinary behavior questionnaire. Besides that, the researcher also used a Likert scale model instrument with five alternative answers. Data analysis techniques using simple regression analysis. And the results of the study show the influence of teacher exemplary behavior on student disciplinary behavior at school.


This study was conducted to examine the relationship between coaching and mentoring guidance and the levelof metacognition among Malay language teachers. In 2013, the Ministry of Education Malaysia implemented the District Transformation Programme as a pilot project before it was expanded nationwide in the following year.This step was taken to empowerteachers through the School Improvement Specialist Coaches (SISC) programmethat develop the teachers’ competencies, metacognition and expertise. Using a quantitative approach, the study analysed data were collected from 186 teachersteach in the Tuaran district, Sabah. Study data were analyzed using descriptive and inference analysis. Overall, the findings show that the level of coaching and mentoring is high, thus illustrating that teachers are ready to receive coaching and mentoring guidance in order to develop metacognition ability as well as to improve their teaching and learning performance. Although not entire coaching and mentoring items have a significant relationship in terms of teachers’ metacognition, there is a significant relationship between coaching and mentoring guidance and teachers’ metacognition in terms of declarative knowledge element.

Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) highlights the mastery of skills as a key element before entering a career field. This study was conducted to identify the relationship between learning motivation and competency-based learning (CBL) and fashion designing skills for students in the Fashion Design Programme at Vocational colleges. This quantitative study with correlational research design involved 200 Diploma in Fashion Design Programme students. Simple random sampling technique was used, and data was collected through questionnaires. Findings of inferential analysis showed that fashion designing skills and learning motivation were at a moderate level with mean = 2.88 (SD = .43) and mean = 4.05 (SD = .30). Meanwhile, Competency-Based Learning recorded a mean of 3.08 with a standard deviation of .35. It was found that learning motivation had a weak relationship (r = .249, p <0.05) while CBL had a strong relationship (r = .542, p <0.05) with fashion designing skills. These findings indicate that motivation and competency-based instruction implemented during Teaching and Learning are related with mastery skill. Following that, lecturers need to ensure that the knowledge and skills imparted can be mastered by the students. It can be concluded that the management of Vocational colleges needs to provide continuous motivation to the students as well as support the lecturer to increase their knowledge on CBL in order to produce students who are highly skilled in Fashion Design.

The research aimed at the exploration of gender differences in the quality of close relationships with a mother, a father, a sibling, a partner, and a friend concerning the negative exchange in the form of conflicts and antagonism, as well as the role of personality traits and communication styles in the development of individual differences. The sample consisted of 400 participants (69% females), age from 19 to 51. Data were collected using the short version of personality questionnaire Big Five Plus Two (VP+2-70), questionnaire about close relationship quality Network of Relationship Inventory (NRI), and the scale for estimating communication skills, Communicator Style Measure (CSM). The results confirmed gender specificities concerning a degree of the negative exchange in the relationship types, and their correlations with personality traits and communication style. Females had stronger negative exchange with partners and fathers, while males had it with siblings. Extraverted females had more conflicts with their mothers. Higher Openness and Positive Valence of males was followed by greater conflicts with partner and lower Antagonism with friends, whereas the higher Consciousness was followed by greater negative exchange with siblings. Daughters with more assertive communication and sons with more expressive communication had stronger degree of confrontations with parents. On the other hand, males with more assertive communication, and females with more expressive communication had stronger conflicts with partners. Stronger negative exchange of females with fathers and partners was probably due to their greater orientation to deal with relationship problems and emancipation needs. The result that more assertive women had stronger degree of conflict with parents maybe the results from the fostering of the honest communication in the family of origin. Confronting more assertive women with their parents may stem from fostering honest and directive communication in the family of origin. Given that the society pressures males to be independent, the result that more expressive males had stronger negative exchange with their family of origin had been expected. These findings showed that expressiveness indicate immaturity. The willingness of more assertive men to engage in a negative exchange with a partner indicates their involvement in the relationship.

Abstract. The problem that occurs at MA Al-Hidayah Ibun in learning Islamic Cultural History (SKI) is the one-way teaching and learning interaction that makes the teacher's role very dominant and learning becomes passive. Only students can get the information provided by their teacher, the teacher who is talking about it is very active and students become passive. This study uses a quantitative approach to the type of correlational research that is to find the relationship between variable x and variable y. Data collection methods used in this study are through questionnaires, observations, interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that: (1) The tendency of teacher-student interaction variables is 10% (3 students) in the high category, 73.4% (22 students) is in the medium category, and 16.6% (5 students) is in the low category. These results indicate that the educative interaction of teachers with students in the MA Al-Hidayah Ibun included in the medium category. (2) The tendency of students' interest in learning variables in SKI subjects is 13.3% (4 students) in the high category, 70% (21 students) is in the medium category, and 16.7% (5 students) are in the low category. These results indicate that students' interest in learning SKI subjects in MA Al-Hidayah Ibun is included in the medium category. (3) There is a significant correlation between teacher's educational interactions with students on student learning interest in History subjects Islamic Culture at MA Al-Hidayah Ibun. This is evidenced through hypothesis testing using product moment correlation, obtained correlation coefficient value r count = 0.5304, then consulted with the value of r product moment with n = 30 at a significant level of 5% or 0.05, 0.361. Then the conclusion is that r count > r table, so Hypothesis 1 is accepted. Abstrak. Permasalahan yang terjadi di MA Al-Hidayah Ibun dalam pembelajaran Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam (SKI) adalah terjadinya interaksi belajar mengajar satu arah yang menjadikan peran guru sangat dominan dan pembelajaran pun menjadi pasif. Sehingga siswa hanya mendengarkan informasi yang diberikan oleh gurunya, yang akibatnya guru sangat aktif dan siswa menjadi pasif. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian korelasional yaitu untuk mencari hubungan antara variabel x dan variabel y. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu melalui angket, observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Kecenderungan variabel interaksi guru dengan siswa yaitu sebanyak 10 % (3 siswa) berada pada kategori tinggi, sebanyak 73,4 % (22 siswa) berada pada kategori sedang, dan 16,6% (5 siswa) berada pada kategori rendah. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa interaksi edukatif guru dengan siswa di MA Al-Hidayah Ibun termasuk pada kategori sedang. (2) Kecenderungan variabel minat belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran SKI yaitu sebanyak 13,3 % (4 siswa) berada pada kategori tinggi, sebanyak 70 % (21 siswa) berada pada kategori sedang, dan 16,7% (5 siswa) berada pada kategori rendah. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa minat belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran SKI di MA Al-Hidayah Ibun termasuk pada kategori sedang.3) Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara interaksi edukatif guru dengan siswa terhadap minat belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran Sejarah Kebudayaan Islam (SKI) di MA Al-Hidayah Ibun. Hal ini dibuktikan melalui uji hipotesis menggunakan korelasi product moment, diperoleh nilai koefisien korelasi rhitung = 0,5304, kemudian dikonsultasikan dengan nilai r product moment dengan n = 30 pada taraf signifikan 5% atau 0,05 yaitu 0,361. Maka diambil kesimpulan bahwa rhitung    rtabel, sehingga Hipotesis 1 diterima.

Apperception at the beginning of teaching and learning process is the common activity done by the teacher which determine the effectiveness of the process. This study aimed to determine the relationship between scene setting at the beginning of the learning process and student’s learning motivation. This was a correlational research in which the population was seventh-grade students at MTs. Madani Alauddin Pao Pao. The number of samples was sixty students, taken from 50% of the population by using simple random sampling. The instruments used were scene setting activity observation sheet and motivational questionnaire sheet, they both used the Likert scale. The data obtained were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis. The results indicated that there was a significant correlation between the scene setting and students' learning motivation in Integrated Science subject in class VII of MTs. Madani Alauddin Pao Pao (p < 0.05). The relation between scene setting and learning motivation was in a strong category (R = 0.600). Thus, the better the scene setting activities, the more optimum the students’ motivation.

The paper seeks to investigate the level of productive knowledge of ESL learners, the writing quality and the relationship between the vocabulary knowledge and the writing quality. 150 final year students of English language in a university in Nigeria were randomly selected as respondents. The respondents were asked to write an essay of 300 words within one hour. The essays were typed into Vocab Profiler of Cobb (2002) and analyzed the Lexical Frequency Profile of the respondents. The essays were also assessed by independent examiners using a standard rubric. The findings reveal that the level of productive vocabulary knowledge of the respondents is limited. The writing quality of the majority of the respondent is fair and there is a significant correlation between vocabulary and the witting quality of the subjects. The researchers posit that productive vocabulary is the predictor of writing quality and recommend various techniques through which teaching and learning of vocabulary can be improved.
