It has been claimed that ‘no individual’s linguistic repertoire is perfect’ (Maleki 2007, as cited in (Hmaid, 2014)). Both indigenous and non-native participants of any community frequently encounter obstacles, relying on restricted verbal tools to convey their intention. Communication strategies are the methods through which speakers seek to bridge the barrier amongst all individuals who wish to convey and the instantly accessible language assets. The significance of English cannot be overstated. Paragraph fragmentation, run-on phrases, and general topic alignment are the major opponents of proper grammar. Communicating is the most fundamental mode of interaction. That is the only fundamental human privilege with the fewest limits and is regarded as extremely essential by the legislation. Currently, fluency in English is practically a must for accomplishment in the globe. This research paper reveals a mixed-method methodology in scrutinizing possible effective modules and types for oral communication skills in the English language. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were taken into consideration throughout the whole investigation, where the studies of Dhani Ram Sharma, Apisara Sritulanon, Panna Chaturongakul, Thapanee Thammetar, Anne Syomwene, Zhanli Yang, Yaseen Hmaid, JD Singh had a huge impact on the results and discussions of the research. The main obstacles illustrated throughout the research were lack of preparation, lack of spoken English, poor vocabulary, inability to clearly understand native speakers or others speaking this language, and inability to express ideas that were discussed and analyzed with the offered solutions. The following research objectives are being analyzed throughout the investigation: making a significant commitment for persuading instructors & others; developing a conceptual method for instructors; promoting the benefits of communication skills; offering a skill different from conventional learning speaking skills to learning English; examining the efficacy of conversation skills. Examples, strategies, and recommendations illustrated by the authors in the following sections of the research paper underline the importance of oral communication skills both in the teaching environment and in the professional sphere. Furthermore, the analysis of statistics made by Dhani Ram Sharma, stressed the positive impacts of strategies used by them in improving and developing students’ communication skills. Moreover, the results and discussions concerning the revealing of research findings affirm that activities and strategies implemented were successful enough for future professional accomplishments of oral communication skills.

The graduates of Jazan University (Saudi Arabia), like anywhere else in EFL or ESL settings, require effective oral communication skills in English language for a highly competitive and expanding market economy of the country, and the worldwide too. The study was taken to evaluate the students’ perceptions about the need of speaking skills and the urgency to participate in language enhancement activities keeping in view the generally unsatisfactory position of the Saudi students in speaking English language. The sample population for this research was taken from three colleges, i.e. the first grade students from Engineering, Business and Computer Science of this university. A survey method technique was adopted in which data was obtained using a structured questionnaire about students’ responses on multiple items indicating their understanding of the importance of speaking skills, their existing level of oral communication and the need to participate in the extra coaching programs offered by the university. The quantitative data were analyzed by using SPSS 17. The data shows the participants’ understanding of the importance of communication skills for social needs, personality development, attaining and survival in the job market, and their needs for attending extra language training sessions other than their normal routine courses.

International research findings and anecdotal evidence alike suggest that new accountancy graduates often begin their careers with inadequate oral communication skills. However, there is a lack of well-grounded empirical data concerning precisely what accountancy employers mean by “oral communication” and what specific skills they value most highly. This article describes a research project investigating the importance of 27 oral communication skills for students intending to begin an accountancy career in New Zealand, as perceived by chartered accountancy professionals. It also examines how frequently accountancy employers are finding these desired skills in new graduates. The findings reported in this study offer important guidance concerning the oral communication skills that new graduates will find most useful in the New Zealand accountancy workplace and suggest useful directions for accountancy students internationally.

In today's global environment, the nursing profession is regarded as a noble, challenging and competitive profession. Malaysian trained nurses are highly in demand due to their training and on-going efforts are made to ensure that the standards are well-maintained. This paper describes a part of a larger study. It reports the findings of a study pertaining to the needs of English language communication skills for nurses in a private hospital in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. The study focused on the needs of English language communication skills at the workplace. These skills were written and spoken English communication, reading, listening, and interpersonal communication. By identifying these communicative competency needs, the study has given insights into helping the nurses to increase their work performance, meet their work demands and help the employability of the nurses globally.

The ultimate goal of learning the English language is oral communication. Virtual scenario teaching (VST) provides the speaking and listening opportunities for learners of spoken English, and allows students to actively participate in the creation of an English environment. Based on VST, this paper summarizes the status quo of spoken English teaching, applies VST to the teaching of spoken English, and evaluates the teaching effect. The results show that VST enhances the students’ ability of language expression, and stimulates their learning interest. With the aid of VST, students can master relevant knowledge, learn spoken English more fluently, and acquire better skills of oral expression. About 95% of teachers speak highly of VST. The research results lay a theoretical basis for reforming and improving the teaching of spoken English.

Employing technology has become imperative to accelerate learning efforts and offer methods to enhance interactions between learners, and among learners and tutors. In this paper, we investigate the difficulties faced by learners in learning virtually and, specifically, in English language learning, with a focus on oral communication skills. Research questions of this study are related to the main difficulties that students face to enhance their English oral communication skills. The tools and methodologies that worked best for them for this purpose are also in focus. In the literature we present a review of pertinent studies connected with learning responses in the COVID-19 period and those specifically related to the topic of our study. The methodology used for the study was an exploratory survey research design using a questionnaire to collect the necessary data for our research. Results showed that students highlighted technical problems as some of the main challenges, as well as not feeling completely comfortable in the online learning environment due to the lack of real communication, which also had an impact in the perception of their progress. They also found group video or audio calls to be the most useful tool for communication purposes. The results of this preliminary study are relevant to educational developers and policymakers. They give an understanding of aspects to be considered to improve the efficacy of learners’ when it comes to enhancing their English communication skills, such as difficulties regarding interaction or level of satisfaction in an online learning environment.

The objective of the study was to assess the extent to which the first grade English language book reflects an average of verbal communication skills. The methodology of the study: The descriptive approach was followed by a content analysis. The researcher reviewed the relevant literature and previous studies and extracted a list of verbal communication skills and then evaluated the FULL BLAST English book for the first grade in the light of these skills. Results: The study developed a new list of oral communication skills in five areas: social interaction, information, opinions, needs, drafting. The study found deficiencies in the units of the book in general, especially the first book of the inclusion of many of the necessary skills that would be found to help complete the construction of the system of oral communication in English, in addition to the weakness of the distribution of these skills in a consistent and appropriate to the ability of students to absorb and benefit from them and showed the results The second book surpassed the first book in verbal communication skills in its four units.

This study investigated the effect of utilizing Facebook activities on enhancing oral communication skills for English as Foreign Language learners (EFL) in the English Department at Yarmouk University, Jordan. Participants of the study were first year English Language Bachelor degree students who speak English as a foreign language. The researcher hypothesized that if these learners practiced Facebook activities, their oral communication skills may be improved. For answering questions of the study, the researcher designed a pre-post oral communication skills test to determine the participants’ mastery of oral communication skills. Furthermore, she uploaded the activities on a Facebook account that were made available for all the participants of the study. Results revealed that the suggested Facebook activities were effective on improving participants’ oral communication skills. Then the study recommended that Facebook activities may be utilizing on improving other skills such as speaking and listening or even English language pronunciation.


Communicating effectively in English does not come naturally to undergraduate engineering students in India and presumably everywhere where English is not the first language or the mother tongue. In India, English is used as official language in most of the states. It is also the medium of instruction in most educational institutes. Teaching methods and objectives to be achieved while imparting knowledge of English language mainly focus on ability of students to reproduce the learned facts in written form in the examination. Focus on the oral communication and development of English as a medium to share and express original ideas is not really observed at school or university level. Employers worldwide have acknowledged that the conventional engineering curriculum that is focused on imparting technical knowledge has proved to be inadequate in equipping engineers with the adequate employability skills. The objective of this paper is to present a framework for design, teaching and evaluation of a course on communication skills/professional communication for engineering students. A proposed pedagogical framework has been discussed and illustrated as appendices. Guidelines regarding improving communication skills have been made keeping in mind that rather than emphasizing upon incorporating a course on communication skills in the engineering education, communication should be made an integral part of the curriculum
