This study is aimed to find the empirical evidence of the relationship between CSR expenditures and financial distress probability of 85 Indonesian’s manufacturing public company listed on BEI. A quantitative method was used to analyze the direct relationship between CSR expenditures and financial distress probability and the indirect effect of the two variables intervened by firm reputation. Observation data was obtained from each of the company’s annual and financial report from the official website of BEI, particularly between the years of 2014 to 2016. Through path analysis method, the results showed that there was an insignificant positive direct relationship between CSR expenditures and financial distress probability of 4.9%. The indirect effect between the two variables also showed the value of 3.7%, but the relationship was rather negative. In total, an increase in one standard deviation of CSR expenditures increases the probability of a firm to be financially distressed by 1.2%. However, with the value of 45.1%, it is proven that CSR expenditures and firm reputation has a positive relationship.

This study analyzes the relationship between agricultural foreign direct investment (FDI) and food security on Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries in a panel framework over the period 2006–2015 using correlation analysis, the specific-effect model, and the 2SLS technique. The study aims to: first, analyze the correlation between agricultural FDI and food security for each country, individually; then, investigate whether there is a direct relationship, using the specific-effect model. Finally, by taking one step further, this study uses the 2SLS method to determine whether there is an indirect relationship through agricultural productivity. Our results show that the sampled countries have clear differences in the direction of the relationship between food security and agricultural FDI. But, in general, the agricultural FDI has a positive direct and indirect effect on food security; this effect is seen clearly when the country attracts agricultural FDIs steadily.

The purpose of this study to examine the relationship of cash flow ratios in predicting financial distress companies, with industrial and consumer product companies in Bursa Malaysia as the sample. The study on financial distress is critical as it can lead to bankruptcy, which may adversely affect the economy of the country. Therefore it is worth exploring any indicators that can identify the possibility of financial distress in the company. The tools enable to address the potential problems that can mitigate from distressed financial position.  Most prior studies in Malaysia focus on traditional financial ratios, while this study exploits the strength of cash flow ratios. The liquidity ratio, solvency ratio, efficiency ratio and profitability ratio utilized in this study are derived from the statement of cash flows. The Altman Z-score is used to measure the level of the financial distress. The findings show mixed relationships between solvency ratio and financial distress and a negative significant relationship between profitability ratio and financial distress, whilst efficiency ratio has no relationship with the financial distress. These results suggest that cash flow ratios are reliable tools to predict financial distress for Malaysian context. The study is useful in giving insights to the stakeholders in their decision making.

In this article, we examine the effects of paternalism on experienced incivility across two studies. Study 1 examines the paternalism—experienced incivility relationship in a sample of health care employees, and Study 2 examines a moderated–mediated relationship, with incivility climate as the moderator of the paternalism—experienced incivility relationship, and counterproductive work behavior as the outcome. Results from these studies suggest that paternalism has a significant positive direct effect on incivility, and an indirect effect on counterproductive work behavior through experienced incivility. Moreover, our results suggest that the relationship between paternalism and experienced incivility is moderated by incivility climate, such that the effect of paternalism on experienced incivility is stronger at higher levels of incivility climate tolerance and lower levels of incivility climate policy.

This study attempts to clarify whether using a hybrid model based on non-financial variables and financial variables is able to provide a more accurate company financial distress prediction model than using a model based on financial variables only. The relationship between the model test results and the De la Rey K-Score for the subject companies is tested, employing Cramer’s V statistical test. A movement towards a Cramer’s V value of one indicates a strengthening relationship, and a movement towards zero is an indication of a weakening relationship. Against this background, further empirical research is proposed to prove that a model combining financial variables with true non-financial variables provides a more accurate company distress prediction than a financial variable-only model. The limited evidence of a strengthening relationship found is insufficient to establish the superiority of the proposed model beyond reasonable doubt.

Financial distress prediction models of Altman, Springate, Zmijewski, Grover, and Khaira have been widely applied to predict financial distress and financial health. This study aims to analyze score correlations within the prediction results of the mentioned models applied in manufacture companies listed in the Indonesian Stock Exchange. The sample includes 30 companies which faced financial distress during economic crisis in 1997–1998 and, as comparison, incorporates 28 financially healthy companies. Observations were made during one and two years before the financial distress occurred, i.e. between 1995 until 1999, as well as from 2015 until 2018 to measure the financial health level in the companies. In this study, we use the correlation analysis. The results showed that  models which have a strong and significant relationship at alpha 5% are models from Altman - Springate, Altman - Khaira, Springate - Khaira, and Zmijewski - Khaira. Grover model which does not have the predictor in the form of leverage, however has a weak correlation with other model as well as the actual condition
