AbstractThe paper presents and analyses two facets of a controversial educational reality, emphasising the presence of this duality also in the military education. A lot of scholars argue that indoctrination is a reprehensible psycho-pedagogical action, because an indoctrinated person is no longer able to think independently. This is the exact opposite of education and ideals of education, which aim to endow people with rationality, autonomy and cultural openness. Other scholars, even some of those mentioned, admit that education necessarily involves a certain dose of indoctrination of young people, in order to ensure the preservation of the values of communities and organizations. In order to be able to function as a unit and fulfill its missions, the military institutions turn to indoctrination to some extent, proposing and imposing values and desirable ways of behaving on its people. This controversial educational practice must be made aware and kept under control in order to prevent major deviations.

AbstractInternational studies have shown effects of family relations on Internet addiction in young people. This research aimed to outline a discriminant profile of young people classified as dependent and not dependent on the Internet regarding to socio-biodemographic variables to parenting practices, parent-child conflict and interparental conflict. The sample consisted of 200 students (152 girls and 48 boys), between 15 and 24 years of age, 85.5% reside in Rio Grande do Sul and 14.5% in other Brazilian states. Participants responded individually to the protocol available online. The results showed that interparental conflict, parent-child conflict and the educational practice of supervision of paternal behavior discriminate dependents on Internet. The educational practice of maternal emotional support was the only discriminating variable for non-dependents. These national findings corroborate the international context studies and reinforce the importance of including the family in promotion and prevention of mental health of young people.

Project Learn School community is a unique school coop in Philadelphia Founded 30 years ago, Project Learn was created as a cooperative between teachers, parents and students. The main philosophical principle, derived from J. Dewey?s educational theories is the principle of equality between the parties in the educative process. Other guiding philosophical principles are: the emphasis on the unique constellation of abilities of every student creating opportunities for meaningful personal involvement in the learning process, developing a sense of responsibility in students for themselves and for the larger world, and, finally, educating the whole person rather than just teaching academic skills. Although Cultural Historical Activity theory of L.S. Vygotsky was not very well known in the United States at the time of it?s founding, this school embodies several basic principles of Cultural Historical Activity theory. Among them is the principle of social mediation of the relationship between the subject and the object. The same principle is actualized through the rich use of cultural tools and symbols such as very developed programs in art, music and drama, as well as the frequent use of play and play like activities both to motivate and to create a collaborative learning atmosphere. Furthermore, the unique style of governance, where all families participate without delegation of their decision making powers, provides for a powerful model of human relationships, rules and norms believed to be the most beneficial for individual learning and the over all social development.

The article deals with one of the directions of educational practice — practice-oriented training. In the implementation of practice-oriented training in modern education can help institutions of additional education, because they have a high adaptation to changes in society, quickly respond to individual educational and other needs of children, and most importantly, unlike regulated school education, offer the freedom to choose programs, directions of training, education and development. New requirements for the organization of the educational process in the system of additional education was a prerequisite for the development of a model of formation of universal educational actions on the basis of Children’s Ecological and Biological Center of Zheleznogorsk, Krasnoyarsk Krai. When creating the model, we took into account that the educational activity of the Children’s Ecological and Biological Center is based on a system-activity approach, which will ensure: the formation of readiness for self-development and continuous education, design and construction of the social environment of students in the education system, active educational and cognitive activity of students, construction of the educational process taking into account the individual age, psychological and physiological characteristics of students. The proposed model can be implemented in all institutions of additional education of natural Sciences.

Focusing on Rio de Janeiro, the epicenter of the countercultural scene in Brazil, the first chapter analyzes the emergence of a local hippie movement, known by the neologism desbunde, in the late sixties and early seventies, the most repressive period of military rule. For young people who opposed the authoritarian regime, there seemed to be three options: join the clandestine struggle, leave the country, or desbundar, or “drop out,” and live on the margins of society. The author analyzes the circulation of countercultural ideas and styles in a vibrant alternative press, such as O Pasquim, and the spaces associated with them, such as the Ipanema neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. The author devotes a section to the work of Luiz Carlos Maciel, a journalist who propagated countercultural ideas and practices with reference to Brazilian and international contexts. The author also focuses on the work of Raul Seixas, a Brazilian rock musician who advocated for an “alternative society.” This chapter examines the tensions between the counterculture’s disengagement from capitalist society and the emergence of a consumer market with its own advertising language, which sought to appeal to a broader section of urban middle-class youth.
