Abstract Naming can sometimes be associated with particular situations or someone’s birth. This study intends to find out the association between Datooga names and socio-cultural backgrounds. The study employs a qualitative research approach, in which case the collected data was subjected to descriptive analysis. Data have been collected from Datooga speaking students studying at the Dar es Salaam University College of Education, through Interviews and Questionnaire. The analysis is based on the Kripke’s three arguments in naming as described by Speaks (2007). The theory explains how naming is achieved with reference to the modal argument, the semantic argument and the epistemic argument. The findings of the study have revealed that in the Datooga society, naming is associated with different phenomena particularly time of birth and prevailing situations, traditions, norms and customs.

The application of fiqh principles to Islamic economic issues often uses general principles outside the muamalah field, even though general fiqh rules in the muamalah field and detailed rules have been formulated. This article aims to describe the development of fiqh principles on Islamic economic fatwas issued by the DSN-MUI from 2000 to 2019. This study uses a qualitative research approach with descriptive analysis, using a library research approach. This study's results indicate that the development of fiqh principles in the DSN-MUI fatwa can be analyzed from two perspectives. First, the ten fiqh rules with the most significant number are the rules "Basically all forms of muamalat are allowed, unless there are arguments that prohibit them." This rule occupies several repetitions of 125 times (36%). Then the fiqh rule ranks tenth with the intensity of the repetition of 8 times (2%), namely the fiqh rule: "Every debit and credit that brings benefits is usury." Second, the DSN-MUI Fatwa Commission has used the theoretical level because its use includes: core principles, basic principles, general rules, special rules, to detailed regulations.

In the field of Onomastics, many researchers have delved into the study of personal names, place names, church names and school names, among others. This paper gathers another exciting data, (i.e. names that are ascribed to pets in Nzema society) and seeks to examine the morpho-syntactic features of the ‘pet names’. The paper employs the qualitative research approach in providing a descriptive analysis of the linguistic properties that feature in pet names among the people of Nzema. In this paper, ninety (90) pet names are discussed. Relying on Haspelmath’s notion of Framework-free Theory of Grammatical Analysis, the paper demonstrates that the morphological structures of Nzema pet names include single root morphemes, lexical compounding, derivational and inflectional processes, lexical borrowing, and reduplication. These word formation processes are accompanied by some phonological processes such as vowel elision and harmony. At the syntactic/sentential level, the pet names function as simple declarative sentences, imperatives and interrogatives. Compound and complex-embedded clauses were also prevalent in the structure of the pet names. It is ascertained that these pet names are grammatically insightful and can provide a window to understanding the morphosyntactic features of the Nzema language.
