The purpose of this study was to determine the tendency of tamarind (Tamarindus indica L.) leaf extract damage at different temperatures during storage and to determine the storage temperature that can sustain the antioxidant damage of tamarind leaf extract (Tamarindus indica L.) during storage time. Tamarind leaf extract was stored for 4 (four) weeks at 3 (three) different temperature conditions (room temperature / 27 ± 2?C; cold temperature / 5 ± 2?C; and freezing temperature / -10 ± 2?C) and analyzed for total phenolic, antioxidant capacity. and weekly levels of vitamin C. The data obtained were tabulated and analyzed descriptively. The results of this study indicate that at room temperature (27 ± 2)?C, cold temperature (5 ± 2)?C, and freezing temperature (-10 ± 2)?C, total phenolic, vitamin C levels, and antioxidant capacity have a tendency to decrease during storage. four weeks. The highest decrease in total phenolic occurred at room temperature (27 ± 2)?C, the highest decrease in vitamin C levels and antioxidant capacity occurred at freezing temperatures (-10 ± 2)?C. Storage with cold temperatures (5 ± 2)?C can retain the antioxidant content of tamarind leaf extract for four weeks and is the best storage condition. Medicinal products have quality standards or qualities that are very important to determine the therapeutic effect of a drug. One of the external factors that affect drug quality is temperature, because temperature can affect the instability of the quality of a drug product. This study aims to determine the effect of storage temperature of commercial capsule drugs on organoleptic. The research method uses a quantitative approach and experimental method by measuring the ascorbic acid content of the vitamin C tablet drug samples, with variations in temperature, namely cold (5°C), room temperature (27°C) and excessive heat (48°C) for a long time 180 minutes time. The results showed that temperature had a significant effect on the content of ascorbic acid in commercial vitamin C tablets with the results in sample I cold temperature (5°C) 101.2%, room temperature (27°C) 97.6% and overheating temperature (48°C). 90.5%. In sample II the cold temperature (5°C) was 101.8%, the room temperature (27°C) was 103.3% and the overheat temperature (48°C) was 95.3% after 180 minutes of storage.   Keywords: Temperature, Capsule Medicine, Organoleptic ABSTRAK   Mutu atau kualitas suatu produk obat merupakan faktor penting untuk mengetahui efek terapetik dari suatu obat. Salah satu faktor eksternal yang dapat mempengaruhi mutu obat adalah suhu karena dapat mempengaruhi ketidakstabilan sifat fisikakimia senyawa aktif dalam sediaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh suhu penyimpanan obat kapsul komersil terhadap organoleptik. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan eksperimental dengan cara mengukur kadar asam askorbat dari sampel obat tablet vitamin C dengan variasi suhu yaitu dingin (5°C), suhu ruang (27°C) dan suhu panas berlebih (48°C) dengan lama waktu simpan 180 menit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa suhu berpengaruh secara nyata terhadap kandungan asam askorbat dalam obat tablet vitamin C komersil dengan hasil pada sampel I suhu dingin (5°C) 101.2%, suhu ruang (27°C) 97.6% dan suhu panas berlebih (48°C) 90.5%. Pada sampel II suhu dingin (5°C) 101.8%, suhu ruang (27°C) 103.3% dan suhu panas berlebih (48°C) 95.3% setelah 180 menit penyimpanan.   Kata Kunci: Suhu, Obat Kapsul, Organoleptik

In this research, the total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant capacity (FRAP and DPPH•× assays) of pulps and peels of advanced selection of apples grown in Brazil were investigated. The correlation analyses between the activity of polyphenoloxidase enzyme (PPO), vitamin C content, total titratable acidity, and color parameters were performed. The results indicated that the data differed significantly among the apple genotypes studied. The peels of the selection Epagri 170-91 and Epagri 170-25 showed the highest TPC and antioxidant capacities. In addition, the pulps of the Epagri 170-91 presented the highest TPC and antioxidant capacities, the lowest enzymatic browning, highest amount of vitamin C and lowest enzymatic activity when compared with other genotypes. The TPC and antioxidant capacities were significantly correlated in all genotypes analyzed. High correlation values between enzymatic browning and factors that affect the apple color were also found in all analyzed pulps, except between enzymatic browning and TPC. The results demonstrated that the enzymatic browning and TPC, as well as the antioxidant capacity and chemical characteristics, vary considerably depending on the apple genotypes and fruit tissues analyzed.

In present study, fruit weight, fruit firmness, external fruit color, soluble solid content, pH, titratable acidity, vitamin C, total phenolics, total anthocyanins, and antioxidant capacity of eight wild bilberry grown in Coruh valley in northeastern Turkey were determined. The blueberry cv. ‘Bluecrop’ is also included study to make comparison with bilberry genotypes. Antioxidant activity of bilberry and blueberry fruits were comparatively assessed by FRAP (Ferric reducing antioxidant power) assay. Significantly higher content of phenolics and anthocyanins was found in bilberry fruits than in blueberry fruits. However blueberry cv. ‘Bluecrop’ exhibited higher fruit weight and vitamin C content than bilberry fruits. Total phenolic and total anthocyanin content was 327 mg gallic acid equivalent and 142 mg of cyanidin-3-glucoside equivalent in 100 g fresh fruit in cv. ‘Bluecrop’ while it was between 492-563 mg gallic acid equaivalent and 307-342 mg of cyanidin-3-glucoside equivalent in 100 g fresh fruits of  bilberry accessions. Moreover, wild accessions approximately had 2-3 folds higher antioxidant capacity than cv. ‘Bluecrop’. Results suggest the possibility of improving the bioactive and antioxidant properties of bilberry cultivars based food products by using wild ones in cross breeding. It was also concluded that genotypes significantly affect their bioactive content and consequently the possibility of using wild bilberry fruits as a potential source of natural antioxidants in food industry.

In this study, plant growth, yield and sprout quality were investigated by planting at three different periods in three different Brussels sprout varieties in Çukurova Region. In this research, the effects of four different sowing and planting times on plant height (cm), main shoot diameter (mm), leaf number (number/plant), yield (g/m2), sprout weight (g), sprout diameter (mm), sprout height (mm), vitamin C (mg/100 g), antioxidant capacity [μmol trolox equivalents (TE)/g] and total phenolic content [mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/100 g] were investigated in Franklin Fı, Maximus Fı and Divino Fı Brussels sprout varieties. According to the research results; Maximus Fı variety was found to be longer, thicker and more leafy than the other varieties in terms of plant height, main shoot diameter and number of leaves. Based on yield, Maximus Fı variety was recorded to be more efficient (584.88 g/m2) than the other varieties (367.97 g/m2 and 259.82 g/m2 in Franklin Fı and Divino Fı, respectively). Maximus Fı was superior than the other Brussels sprout varieties, Franklin Fı and Divino Fı in terms of sprout weight, sprout diameter and sprout height. When the planting times were evaluated, it was recorded that the 1st period was more suitable in terms of both yield and sprout characteristics compared to the other periods. In the vitamin C content, antioxidant capacity and total phenolic content, Franklin Fı was showed higher rates than the other varieties and more nutrient content was detected in the late plantings.

Kepok bananas are processed bananas that have ABB genotype, the letter B indicates that banana kepok has a stronger resistance to disease and chilling injury in cold temperatures storage. Storage at cold temperatures can extend the shelf life of bananas, because cold temperatures can slow down the respiration and enzymatic processes. The purpose of this study is to observe the effect of storage temperature on quality and shelf life, and to determine optimum storage temperature. The method used is storage temperature at room, 15oC and 10oC until the banana is damaged. The parameters observed were respiration patterns, weight loss, hardness, fruit skin color, total acid, vitamin C, pH, and total soluble solids. The results showed that bananas stored at cold temperatures (10oC and 15oC) can last up to 20 days while at room temperature only lasts for 10 days. Kepok bananas stored at 10oC have not shown symptoms of chilling injury.

AbstractThe study evaluated some agro-morphological (fruit weight, fruit flesh ratio, fruit skin colour, number of fruits per raceme, number of racemes per bush), biochemical (vitamin C, soluble solids content, organic acids), and bioactive (total phenolics, total anthocyanins, total flavonoids, and antioxidant capacity) characteristics of the fruit of a number of selected European Cranberrybush (Viburnum opulus L.) genotypes grown in the Sivas province of Turkey. To evaluate the antioxidant capacity, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays were performed. The results showed genotype-specific differences in most of the agro-morphological, biochemical and bioactive characteristics. The range of fruit weight, number of fruits per raceme, and number of racemes per bush was between 0.67 and 0.82 g, 40.7 and 57.1, and 470 and 581, respectively. The highest vitamin C and soluble solids contents were found in the fruits of genotypes SIV-9 and SIV-6 as 39 mg per 100 g and 12.6%, respectively. Tartaric acid was the main organic acid in all the genotypes; it ranged from 120 to 144 mg per 100 g of fruit FW. Total phenolic, total anthocyanin and total flavonoid contents ranged from 621 to 987 mg gallic acid equivalents per 100 g, 15 to 51 mg cyanidin-3-rutinoside equivalents per 100 g, and 202 to 318 mg rutin equivalents per 100 g, respectively. Genotype SIV-10 had the highest antioxidant capacity (34.90 μmol Trolox per g, based on FRAP assays). The present study shows the potential of the evaluated European Cranberrybush genotypes for improving the nutritional value through germplasm enhancement programmes.

Background: A high proportion of Asteraceae species are considered weeds, some of them have recognizable biological properties. To design production protocols and ex situ seed conservation programs is necessary to determine the effect of storage temperature on seed viability and longevity. It is known that cold temperatures maintain seed viability and thus prolong seed longevity. Hypotheses: The seeds of Aldama dentata, Verbesina virgata, Stevia origanoides and Roldana barba-johannis stored at low temperature (5 ºC) will have greater longevity than when stored at room temperature (16.45 ± 1.94 oC) and will decrease their viability as they age. Study site and dates: Seeds of the four Asteraceae were collected (November-December 2015) in The National Park “El Tepozteco”, Morelos, Mexico and in the “Chamilpa” campus of the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos. Methods: The monthly germination experiments (11) were implemented with seeds stored under both temperatures, germination (%) and mean germination time were registered to estimate seed longevity. The seed viability stored at room temperature was evaluated with the tetrazolium test. Results: Germination and viability decreased with seed age. Along the experiment, seed germination was similar at both storage temperatures. A. dentata and S. origanoides showed the highest germination but A. dentata alone reached the major seed viability. The oldest seeds germinated faster. Conclusions: Seed longevity of all the species exceeded one year. For propagation purposes, it is recommended to use seeds between 8 and 9 months of age, when their germination and viability are the highest.

The aim of this work was to assess and compare different extraction methods by using high hydrostatic pressure (HHPE), ultrasound (UE), agitation (AE), and their combinations for the extraction of bioactive compounds of Chilean papaya. Extract antioxidant capacity was evaluated by three methods (i.e., DPPH, FRAP, and Voltammetry) and phenolic compounds and vitamin C were determined by HPLC. Papaya sample extraction was performed by HHPE at 500 MPa for 10 min and UE and AE for 30 min, respectively. The combined-extractions: HHPE-UE and HHPE-AE, were carried out for 5 min and 15 min, respectively. The highest values found were total phenolic 129.1 mg GAE/100 g FW, antioxidant capacity by DPPH 20.6 mM TE/100 g FW, and voltammetry 141.0 mM TE/100 g FW for HHPE-UE method in free compound extraction. Regarding vitamin C content, its highest value was found by HHPE-UE (74 mg/100 g FW) a combined extraction method. The phenolic compounds rutin andp-coumaric acid were found in all the extracts, both in free and bound forms, respectively. Besides, the combined techniques improved the extraction of bioactive compounds.
