Author(s):

The results of experimental studies of reagent wastewater treatment with a three-component composition (coagulant, flocculant, alkaline reagent), which were carried out at DalVODGEO LLC (from 2015 to 2018, when one of the authors, S.B. Kundenok, worked as a chief project engineer in this organizations), then jointly with the Far Eastern Federal University (2017–2020). The ratio of reagents in the composition was experimentally selected, and the flocculant is dissolved in soda ash and introduced after the coagulant. Tests on effluents from food production (with a high content of organic and mineral suspended substances), with an insufficient alkaline reserve, confirm the greater efficiency of purification and a smaller volume of sediment in the case of using the composition in comparison, with the separate injection of reagents. Keywords: waste water, intensification of reagent treatment, coagulum, flocculant, alkalizing reagent, coagulating-flocculating alkaline composition Contribution of the authors: the authors contributed equally to this article. The authors declare no conflicts of interests.

This paper provides a review of an emerging field in the food processing sector, referring to efficient and safe food supply chains, ’from farm to fork’, as enabled by Artificial Intelligence (AI). The field is of great significance from economic, food safety and public health points of views. The paper focuses on effective food production, food maintenance energy management and food retail packaging labeling control, using recent advances in machine learning. Appropriate deep neural architectures are adopted and used for this purpose, including Fully Convolutional Networks, Long Short-Term Memories and Recurrent Neural Networks, Auto-Encoders and Attention mechanisms, Latent Variable extraction and clustering, as well as Domain Adaptation. Three experimental studies are presented, illustrating the ability of these AI methodologies to produce state-of-the-art performance in the whole food supply chain. In particular, these concern: (i) predicting plant growth and tomato yield in greenhouses, thus matching food production to market needs and reducing food waste or food unavailability; (ii) optimizing energy consumption across large networks of food retail refrigeration systems, through optimal selection of systems that can be shut-down and through prediction of the respective food de-freezing times, during peaks of power demand load; (iii) optical recognition and verification of food consumption expiry date in automatic inspection of retail packaged food, thus ensuring safety of food and people’s health.

Microevolutionary relationships between the Far Eastern StY-genomic species Elymus ciliaris and E. amurensis were studied using a set of experimental methods. No relationship was found between the formal species affiliation of a particular accession and the component composition of protein spectra. The consensus neighbor-joining (NJ) dendrogram based on the variability of ISSR markers showed the features of differentiation among different morphotypes of the two species. Pubescence of leaf blades is not a marker of differences between the studied species. A level of crossability in E. ciliaris s. l. did not allow to study the inheritance of morphological traits. According to the results of sequencing of the nuclear gene GBSS1, the sequences of the St subgenome are the most informative in terms of microevolutionary differentiation. It is proposed to return to the early treatment by N.N. Tsvelev, where E. ciliaris and E. amurensis were considered as subspecies of E. ciliaris s. l.

General chronological frameworks created recently for the Neolithic complexes of China, Japan, Korea, and far eastern Russia allow us to reveal temporal patterns of Neolithization, origin of food production, and the emergence of civilizations. Pottery originated in East Asia, most probably independently in different parts of it, in the terminal Pleistocene, about 14,800–13,300 BP (uncalibrated), and this marks the beginning of the Neolithic. Agriculture in the eastern part of Asia emerged only in the Holocene. The earliest trace of millet cultivation in north China can now be placed at ∼9200 BP, and rice domestication in south China is dated to ∼8000 BP. Pottery in East Asia definitely preceded agriculture. The term “civilization,” which implies the presence of a state level of social organization and written language, has been misused by scholars who assert the existence of a very early “Yangtze River civilization” at about 6400–4200 cal BP. The earliest reliable evidence of writing in China is dated only to about 3900–3000 cal BP, and no “civilization” existed in East Asia prior to this time.

The results of the study of the possibility of using additional technological influence in the formation of doped coatings are presented. The distribution of thermal fields has been calculated, which makes it possible to estimate and predict the influence of additional influence on the formation of the coating in a simplified manner. Experimental studies have shown that additional technological influence promotes mixing of the melt, leading to an increase in the transition of alloying elements, as well as an increase in the mechanical properties and quality of the weld metal.

The data on the dynamics of e-waste generation in different countries are presented and modern methods of handling this type of waste are analyzed. The characteristics of the component composition of electronic waste are given. The problem of neutralization and disposal of mobile phone screens has been studied. An analysis of possible methods for extracting metals from electronic waste has been carried out, which has shown the promise of a biotechnological method based on the ability of the biomass of microscopic algae to selectively, under certain conditions, sorbs metals. Based on the analysis of the research results of domestic and foreign scientists presented in the literature the process of extracting indium from the screens of mobile phones using microscopic algae was simulated under laboratory conditions. When justifying the choice of indium as an extractable metal, two criteria were used: limited distribution in the earth's crust and the difficulty of obtaining from natural ores, as well as demand in various industries. In experimental studies, the parameters of the effective extraction of indium by the biosorption method have been determined.

The article presents the results of theoretical and experimental studies of coalescence, disruption, and fragmentation of liquid droplets in multiphase and multicomponent gas-vapor-droplet media. Highly promising approaches are considered to studying the interaction of liquid droplets in gaseous media with different compositions and parameters. A comparative analysis of promising technologies is carried out for the primary and secondary atomization of liquid droplets using schemes of their collision with each other. The influence of a range of factors and parameters on the collision processes of drops is analyzed, in particular, viscosity, density, surface, and interfacial tension of a liquid, trajectories of droplets in a gaseous medium, droplet velocities and sizes. The processes involved in the interaction of dissimilar droplets with a variable component composition and temperature are described. Fundamental differences are shown in the number and size of droplets formed due to binary collisions and collisions between droplets and particles at different Weber numbers. The conditions are analyzed for the several-fold increase in the number of droplets in the air flow due to their collisions in the disruption mode. A technique is described for generalizing and presenting the research findings on the interaction of drops in the form of theoretical collision regime maps using various approaches.
