Retrospective analysis of foreign literature present in PubMed was carried out with the purpose to define possible influence of superinvasive opisthorchiasis on possible development of cholangiocellular carcinoma. After the research we conclude that O. Felineus doesn’t have an entry point during the initiation stage of carcinogenesis but rather acts as a promotor of cholangiocarcinoma (СС), and therefore cannot be considered a primary cause of the disease without additional influence of another carcinogens and specific factors that increase the probability of cholangiocarcinoma development (chronic inflammation, free radicals). Keywords: superinvasive opisthorchiasis, parasitism, immune system, carcinogenesis.

In the paper, selected problems that are related to the measurements of thermal parameters of power MOSFETs that are placed on a common heat sink are analysed. The application of the indirect electrical method, the contact method, and the optical method in measuring self and mutual transient thermal impedances of these transistors is presented. The circuits that are required to perform measurements are presented and described. The errors of measurements are assessed for each of the considered methods. In the case of the indirect electrical method, an additional influence of the selection of a thermo-sensitive parameter and the function approximating thermometric characteristics on the measurement error are taken into consideration. The measurement results of the thermal parameters of the investigated transistors that were obtained using the considered measurement methods in various supply conditions are presented and discussed.

Motivated by environment preservation, the increased use of eco-friendly materials such as biodegradable polymers and biopolymers has raised the interest of researchers and the polymer industry. In this approach, this work aimed to produce bioblends using poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and high-density biopolyethylene (BioPE); due to the low compatibility between these polymers, this work evaluated the additional influence of the compatibilizing agents: poly (ethylene octene) and ethylene elastomer grafted with glycidyl methacrylate (POE-g-GMA and EE-g-GMA, respectively), polyethylene grafted with maleic anhydride (PE-g-MA), polyethylene grafted with acrylic acid (PE-g-AA) and the block copolymer styrene (ethylene-butylene)-styrene grafted with maleic anhydride (SEBS-g-MA) to the thermal, mechanical, thermomechanical, wettability and morphological properties of PLA/BioPE. Upon the compatibilizing agents’ addition, there was an increase in the degree of crystallinity observed by DSC (2.3–7.6% related to PLA), in the thermal stability as verified by TG (6–15 °C for TD10%, 6–11 °C TD50% and 112–121 °C for TD99.9% compared to PLA) and in the mechanical properties such as elongation at break (with more expressive values for the addition of POE-g-GMA and SEBS-g-MA, 9 and 10%, respectively), tensile strength (6–19% increase compared to PLA/BioPE bioblend) and a significant increase in impact strength, with evidence of plastic deformation as observed through SEM, promoted by the PLA/ BioPE phases improvement. Based on the gathered data, the added compatibilizers provided higher performing PLA/BioPE. The POE-g-GMA compatibilizer was considered to provide the best properties in relation to the PLA/BioPE bioblend, as well as the PLA matrix, mainly in relation to impact strength, with an increase of approximately 133 and 100% in relation to PLA and PLA/BioPE bioblend, respectively. Therefore, new ecological materials can be manufactured, aiming at benefits for the environment and society, contributing to sustainable development and stimulating the consumption of eco-products.

Marinades based on vegetable oil blends for the production of natural marinated meat semi-finished products significantly affect the rheological and structural and mechanical parameters of the product. They determine the plasticity and consistency of semi-finished products made from raw materials of grades 1 and 2. Therefore, the purpose of the work was to develop recipes for marinades and to establish the effect of marinade based on vegetable oil blends enriched with bromelain enzyme on the structural and mechanical properties of natural marinated meat semi-finished products during storage. The use of vegetable raw materials in the technology of natural marinated meat semi-finished products allows the use of raw meat of 1 and 2 grades and the output is a tender, juicy, easily digestible product. To determine the effect of marinade based on vegetable oil blends enriched with bromelain on the structural and mechanical properties of natural marinated meat semi-finished products, studies have developed 8 samples of semi-finished products, namely: 4 samples using pork: 1 control sample without marinade and 3 samples with marinades based on vegetable oil blends; and 4 samples using beef: 1 control sample without marinade and 3 samples with marinades based on vegetable oil blends. In this regard, we came to the conclusion about the feasibility of using vegetable oil blends and enzymes in the marinade. Better organoleptic and structural and mechanical parameters in comparison with control samples are an additional influence on natural marinated meat semi-finished products. Therefore, in view of the set tasks, marinade recipes with different ratios of refined vegetable oils enriched with enzyme have been developed, which allow to increase the hardness for pork semi-finished products and to reduce the hardness for beef semi-finished products during storage.

AbstractIn healthy participants, corticospinal excitability is known to increase during motor simulations such as motor imagery (MI), action observation (AO) and mirror therapy (MT), suggesting their interest to promote plasticity in neurorehabilitation. Further comparing these methods and investigating their combination may potentially provide clues to optimize their use in patients. To this end, we compared in 18 healthy participants abductor pollicis brevis (APB) corticospinal excitability during MI, AO or MT, as well as MI combined with either AO or MT. In each condition, 15 motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) and three maximal M-wave were elicited in the right APB. Compared to the control condition, mean normalized MEP amplitude (i.e. MEP/M) increased during MI (P = .003), MT (P < .001) and MT + MI (P < .001), without any difference between the three conditions. No MEP modulation was evidenced during AO or AO + MI. Because MI provided no additional influence when combined with AO or MT, our results may suggest that, in healthy subjects, visual feedback and unilateral movement with a mirror may provide the greatest effects among all the tested motor simulations.

The article is devoted to the so-called “Alan” bronze one-sided crosses found on the territory of historical Alania, including directly in the Alanian catacomb burials on the territory of modern North Ossetia. The crosses have figured endings with pair of inscribed medallions. In the medallions are represented rudely executed masks, and in the center of the crosses is a Crucifix or Our Lady of Hodegetria. Currently, nine corresponding samples are known. Two of them were clearly mimic the reliquary crosses. Finds of crosses in complexes allow us to consider the lower chronological boundary of the existence of crosses of this type among the Alans of the North Caucasus of the XI–XII centuries. One of the types of underwear crosses from the territory of Ancient Russia is close to them in form and chronologically. It is assumed that it was the product of a provincial Byzantine workshop. But directly “Alanian” crosses, as the researchers have established, are comparable to the unique type of processional cross, originating from Constantinople and also chronologically close. It should be assumed that the direct samples for the “Alanian” crosses were similar procession crosses, which would testify to the established special connection with them the Alans, or reliquary crosses, most apparently, the samples of which remain unknown until now. Other Byzantine and Russian reliquary crosses may also have an additional influence on the development of their forms. The processional cross makes it possible to clarify with specific images of roughly depicted characters in medallions, which were previously defined only as «saints». At the same time, the local conversion of images on the “Alanian” crosses is undoubted. Some additional observations, among other things, suggest an ideological convergence between the ideas reflected in the processional crosses and the traditional Alan solar beliefs.

AbstractBackgroundDeciphering the function of the many genes previously classified as uncharacterized “open reading frame” (orf) completes our understanding of cell function and its pathophysiology.MethodsWhole-exome sequencing, yeast 2-hybrid and transcriptome analyses together with molecular characterization are used here to uncover the function of the C2orf69 gene.ResultsWe identify loss-of-function mutations in the uncharacterized C2orf69 gene in eight individuals with brain abnormalities involving hypomyelination and microcephaly, liver dysfunction and recurrent autoinflammation. C2orf69 contains an N-terminal signal peptide that is required and sufficient for mitochondrial localization. Consistent with mitochondrial dysfunction, patients show signs of respiratory chain defect and a CRISPR-Cas9 knockout cell model of C2orf69 shows comparable respiratory chain defects. Patient-derived cells reveal alterations in immunological signaling pathways. Deposits of PAS-positive material in tissues from affected individuals together with decreased glycogen branching enzyme 1 (GBE1) activity indicate an additional impact of C2orf69 on glycogen metabolism.ConclusionOur study identifies C2orf69 as an important regulator of human mitochondrial function and suggests an additional influence on other metabolic pathways.Graphical Abstract

AbstractLactoferrin is part of the innate immune system, with antiviral activity against numerous DNA and RNA viruses. Rhinoviruses, the leading cause of the common cold, are associated with exacerbation of respiratory illnesses such as asthma. Here, we explored the effect of bovine lactoferrin (BLf) on RV-B14 infectivity. Using different assays, we show that the effect of BLf is strongest during adhesion of the virus to the cell and entry. Tracking the internalisation of BLf and virus revealed a degree of colocalisation, although their interaction was only confirmed in vitro using empty viral particles, indicating a possible additional influence of BLf on other infection steps.

C-reactive protein (CRP) is the best-known acute phase protein. In humans, almost every type of inflammation is accompanied by an increase of CRP concentration. Until recently, the only known physiological function of CRP was the marking of cells to initiate their phagocytosis. This triggers the classical complement pathway up to C4, which helps to eliminate pathogens and dead cells. However, vital cells with reduced energy supply are also marked, which is useful in the case of a classical external wound because an important substrate for pathogens is disposed of, but is counterproductive at internal wounds (e.g., heart attack or stroke). This mechanism negatively affects clinical outcomes since it is established that CRP levels correlate with the prognosis of these indications. Here, we summarize what we can learn from a clinical study in which CRP was adsorbed from the bloodstream by CRP-apheresis. Recently, it was shown that CRP can have a direct effect on blood pressure in rabbits. This is interesting in regard to patients with high inflammation, as they often become tachycardic and need catecholamines. These two physiological effects of CRP apparently also occur in COVID-19. Parts of the lung become ischemic due to intra-alveolar edema and hemorrhage and in parallel CRP increases dramatically, hence it is assumed that CRP is also involved in this ischemic condition. It is meanwhile considered that most of the damage in COVID-19 is caused by the immune system. The high amounts of CRP could have an additional influence on blood pressure in severe COVID-19.
