Ophelia of Pirandello: reflections around female madnessAbstractThe article is devoted to an analysis of Luigi Pirandello’s drama As You Desire Me which drawsinspiration from an actual event connected with questions on the identity of a person sufferingfrom amnesia. Unlike the real incident, the main character of Pirandello’s is a woman knownonly by her alias Stranger, as the main theme of the drama is establishing her true identity. Thepresent article aims at proving that Pirandello’s drama is not a criminal mystery, but rathera deep reflection on the notion of human personality which in the case of a woman receivesnew, interesting meanings. One of them is spotting the correspondence between Pirandelli’sStranger and Shakespeare’s Ophelia, as madness of both characters appears to have similarroots: female’s insanity seen through the prism of both dramas appears as defiance againstthe culture of patriarchy, but also stems from the conviction of one’s own emptiness andundefinedness. In this context, referring to studies on feminist criticism (E. Shawalter,K. Kłosińska, K. Woźniak), including studies on female hysteria is of relevance. Even thoughthe structure of drama appears to lead to a finale in which the truth about the character isuncovered, Pirandello does not reveal her true identity. This research analyzes the elements of personality in the main character of Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Barber of Fleet Street by Tim Burton. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative methods because the results of this research are words which are then described. In this research, the reseacher found the elements of personality in the main character of Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Barber of Fleet Street by Tim Burton such as Todd id as the desire wants to revenge Turpin and Beadle because of what they did to Todd’s family, the desire wants to kill Pirelli because he knew his the real identity, and the desire wants to kill Mrs. Lovett because she lied him. The desires as Todd’s id realized and supported by the ego. The way how ego realized all of id in Sweeney Todd, the ego does his role with an action. Thus the superego does not appear much as the id. His role only related with a good value such as when Todd wants to reveal the fake barber about his crime.Keywords: Sweeney Todd, id, ego, superego.

The theme of Kant’s autobiographical novel «The Stay» (Der Aufenthalt, 1976) is the spiritual rebirth of German prisoner of war, a soldier of the Hitlerite ar-my. The article reveals the interaction of two components found in the novel: the fic-tional and the real ones in depicting this complex psychological process. The analysis of the chapters (X, XV, VI) shows various forms of artistic –aesthetic processing of authentic autobiographical material. In Chapter X the author «collects» his own emotional impressions, experienced by him in different periods of his life (such as cold, loneliness, hunger) and «ties» them to the situation of the main character sitting in a lonely cell in a prison. In Chapter XV he «adds» to real autobiographical facts an important artistic detail –a school pencil case of a Jewish girl killed by Nazis. In Chapter VI Kant makes a masterful use of temporal and narrative distance: the hero estimates the decisive episode of his youth –a conversation with a Russian woman-doctor from the viewpoint of a mature person recalling his life.

Resumo: O primeiro romance de Moacyr Scliar, A guerra no Bom Fim, publicado em 1972, é tecido pela rememoração de um menino judeu que narra preciosos momentos de sua in-fância no bairro Bom Fim, na mesma época em que eclode a Segunda Guerra Mundial na Europa. O imaginário do protagonista Joel está repleto de acontecimentos relacionados à guerra que permeiam suas lembranças e fazem parte de sua narração, mesclando realidade e fantasia em seu texto. Esse universo bélico mágico criado pelo garoto tem origem, princi-palmente, nas notícias que escutava sobre o que se passava em solo europeu a partir das conversas entre os adultos, dos meios de comunicação do período, bem como das idas ao cinema Baltimore, onde os cartazes dos filmes atraiam os jovens nas matinês de domingo. Fredric Jameson, em seu texto War and Representation, percebe oito variantes nos textos que tematizam a guerra, são elas: a) experiência existencial da guerra; b) experiência coletiva da guerra; c) líderes, oficiais e o exército; d) tecnologia; e) paisagem inimiga; f) atrocidades; g) ataque à pátria e h) ocupação estrangeira. Com isso em mente, tentaremos desvelar as va-riantes bélicas propostas por Jameson no texto de Scliar, a fim de compreender a experiência existencial pela qual passou a personagem que, para se defender das brutalidades do mundo real, passa a criar um cenário fantástico-maravilhoso em que a história e as lendas judaicas ganham vida, enfatizando a via crucis de toda uma geração de imigrantes que chega ao Bra-sil e sofre com o desenraizamento, preconceito e condições precárias de vida. Abstract: Moacyr Scliar's first novel, A guerra no Bom Fim, published in 1972, is woven by the reminiscence of a Jewish boy who recounts precious moments of his childhood in the Bom Fim neighborhood at the time of II World War in Europe. The imaginary of the pro-tagonist Joel is full of events related to the war itself that permeate his memories and are part of his narration, mixing reality and fantasy in his text. This magical warlike universe created by him has its origins mainly in the news he heard about what was happening on European soil from the conversations between the adults, the media of the period, and the trips to the Baltimore cinema, where the posters of the films attract young people on Sun-day matinees. Fredric Jameson, in his text War and Representation, remarks eight variants or categories in the narratives that have the war as the main theme, they are: a) the existen-tial experience of war; b) the collective experience of war; c) leaders, officers, and the insti-tution of the army; d) technology; e) the enemy landscape; f) atrocities; g) attack on the homeland, and h) foreign occupation. With this in mind, we will try to unveil the warlike variants proposed by Jameson in the text of Scliar, in order to understand the existential ex-perience through which the character passed, whose defense against the brutalities of the real world was to create a fantastic-wonderful scenario in that Jewish history and legends come to life, emphasizing the via crucis of a whole generation of immigrants that arrives in Brazil and suffers from rootlessness, prejudice and precarious conditions of life. Childhood, for this purpose, remains the fundamental stage for the subsequent development and initiation of the child in the “real” world, constituting at the same time, the foundation for his/her human “ becoming”.

In this article we explore "E. T. A. Hoffmann’s complex", which includes real and imaginary worlds, the problem of the mechanisation of life and society, the duality, the romantic irony and grotesque in the series of short stories "Earth Axis" by Valery Bryusov. Following E. T. A. Hoffmann’s tradition, Velery Bryusov creates a special type of romantic the dual world based on the principle of mirror reflection of the real world. The dominance of the unreal world leads to the absorption of the main character. The problem of mechanisation of a life and a man in the series is manifested in the tendency of loss of spirituality in society and an attempt to fill the spiritual emptiness with "inanimate" objects ("Flat", "Defence"). Valery Bryusov creates a grotesque picture of a society ("Earth", "Rise of the Machines"), where the living changes are replaced by the nonliving (machines). Romantic irony and grotesque, which are destructive, become a stylistic device in the work of Valery Bryusov.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan fenomea konflik yang dialami tokoh utama dalam novel Re:karya Maman Suherman. Mengetahui bentuk konflik dan upaya penyelesaian konflik yang dialami tokoh utama dalam novel Re:karya Maman Suherman.Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah psikologi sastra Karen Horney yang menitikberatkan sastra sebagai cerminan masyarakat. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalahmengetahui fenomena konflik yang terdapat dalam novel yang kemudian dikorelasikan dengan kehidupan nyata. Korelasi konflik dalam novel dengan kehidupan nyata dapat dilihat dari adanya persamaan konflik yang terdapat dalam novel Re: karya Maman Suherman dengan kehidupan nyata.   The purpose of this research is describe life phenomenon of conflict which is experiencedthe main character in the novel titled Re: by Maman Suherman. Understandingform of conflict and conflict resolution efforts experienced by the main characterthe novel Re: by Maman Suherman. Approach used in this research is psychology literature of Karen Horney which is focusing literature as society reflection. The result of this research is was to knowthe phenomenon of conflict disclosures contained in the novel and then corelating with the real life of society. The corelation between conflict in the novel with real life can be seen from the equation of the conflict contained in the novel Re: by Maman Suherman and in the real life is able to be found from similarity of conflictwhich is existed in the novel and existed in the real life.The approach in this study is the psychology of literature Karen Horney, Results froms this study is the disclosure of conflict present in the novel then correlated with in real life. Correlation of conflict in the novel with of real life can be seen from equation of conflict in the novel Re: by Maman Suherman with real life.

This creative work is about a young adult who is excited to explore her identity of someone who has a magical ability. It explores the issue of identities in young adults and its correlation to rebellion in the form of running away, which is common in Indonesia. It aims to bring the readers alongside the main character on her journey of exploring her identity, as well as dealing with her parents’ rejection of the identity that she is most comfortable in. To further understand how she deals with her parents’ pressure to take an identity she does not like, Erik Erikson’s fifth psychosocial stage—Identity vs. Role confusion is used as the first theory of this work. The second theory, James Marcia’s identity status, is used to understand how the main character explores her identity in different statuses. The genre of this creative work is low fantasy, which is a subgenre of fantasy that uses minimal magical elements and is set in the real world.

The method used in this research is qualitative by using historical approach. The outcome of this research are (1) The setting used in this drama are ?é?á(a) historical setting; the drama takes place from the year 1950?óÔé¼Ôäós until 1960?óÔé¼Ôäós in America and (b) geographical setting; the drama takes place in Pittsburg, America; (2) Troy as the main character in ?óÔé¼?£Fences?óÔé¼Ôäó has characteristics as (a) realistic man and when its compared to the life of black people in that era, it is still hard for the black people to achieve their dream such as the baseball player because he knows the condition at that time is hard for black people who want to be athletes; (b) uneducated, illiterate man and it is appropriate to the education condition in that era for blacks are segregated and very poor; (c) high tempered is as the consequence of the racial tension and discrimination toward blacks at that time. ?é?á Keywords: setting, historical approach, characteristics, Black American people.

Borrowing Mikhail Bakhtin’s notion of the grotesque, this chapter explores how the use of remixed classical works contributes to the game Catherine’s pervasive focus on opposing dualities. The chapter describes in detail how, for example, music comments on the real world and horrific dreamworld experienced within the game by the main character, Vincent, who is in the midst of a major life crisis. It explores how the careful selection of musical works in Catherine, along with the irreconcilable combination of high and low arts, mirrors dualistic structures found throughout the game, from the mixing of unlikely gameplay genres to its narrative details.
