Rice is one of the main agricultural commodities in Tobing Julu Village, Huristak District, Padang Lawas Regency. Rice farming business in general is the main source of livelihood of the local village community. Men and women each play an important role in managing the rice farming, starting from seeds, plowing, planting, matching, fertilizing, harvesting, lifting from the paddy fields to the roadside to be brought home, cleaning the rice (airing). There is still a gap between women and men. then women experience subordination experiencing multiple workloads. Thus the purpose of this study is to analyze the extent of the relationship between farmers' socioeconomic factors (gender, age and level of education) with gender relations in the division of labor and household gender equality in Tobing Julu Village and to analyze the division of labor between men and women related to local socio-cultural aspects. The location of this research is Tobing Julu Village, Huristak District, Padang Lawas Regency. The results of the analysis show that gender inequalities in the form of subordination and multiple workloads still occur for women, especially in farming as one of the main commodities to fulfill the family's needs

This article analyses the relationship between the representatives and the represented by comparing elite and mass attitudes to gender equality and women’s representation in Britain. In so doing, the authors take up arguments in the recent theoretical literature on representation that question the value of empirical research of Pitkin’s distinction between substantive and descriptive representation. They argue that if men and women have different attitudes at the mass level, which are reproduced amongst political elites, then the numerical under-representation of women may have negative implications for women’s substantive representation. The analysis is conducted on the British Election Study (BES) and the British Representation Study (BRS) series.

Observing the relationship between men and women, actually recognized the existence of two relationships that are connotative be distinguished, that, sexual relations and gender relations. Sexual relationship is the relationship between men and women based on the demands and biological categories. Whereas gender relations is a concept and a different social reality, in which the sexual division of labor between men and women is not based on an understanding of normative and biological categories, but on the quality, skills, and roles based on social conventions. Thus, the concepts and manifestations of gender relations more dynamic and has the flexibility to consider psycho-social variables were developed. Based on this understanding, it could be someone who is biologically classified as a woman, but from the point of gender may play a role as a man or vice versa. Therefore, we need to reorient the roles of women, especially their involvement in the organization of the Islamic community, which often marginalized.

In this chapter, the author aims to present, through a review of literature, that the gender equality assumption of the human resource management (HRM) approach is not taken for granted. It seems there exist two sides of the same coin, one representing the HRM approach and the other representing the gendered approach to HRM practices. This chapter reviews HRM practices in work organizations as the potential facilitator of gender inequalities in organizations. In addition, the contentious function of HRM practices in maintaining gender inequalities within work organizations is reviewed. In spite of knowing the implication of HRM practices on being a gender-diverse organization, there remain few studies on the relationship between HRM practices and gender inequality in work organizations. Such research will add a different perspective to HRM practices and contribute to the awareness related to the gendered nature of organizations and their organizational practices.

We studied the influence of levels of income and education on QuickDASH scores. The scores were collected in a random sample of 1376 residents of Norway. The level of income was divided into four bands and level of education into five bands. The mean QuickDASH score for both men and women fell with every increase in education and income level. For women the mean score was 30 for those with the shortest education and 9 for those with the longest ( p < 0.001). The corresponding figures for men were 19 and 7 ( p < 0.01). The women with the lowest level of income had a mean score of 23, compared with 8 for women with the highest income level ( p < 0.001). For men the corresponding mean scores were 20 and 5 ( p < 0.001). Analysis of variance showed that age alone accounted for 16% of the variability of the scores among women and 7% among men. When levels of education and income were added to the analysis, these three factors accounted for 21% of the variability among women and 13% among men. We conclude that socioeconomic factors significantly influence QuickDASH scores. Level of evidence: 3

In this study, we sought to understand, from a gender perspective, the experiences of mining couples in Antofagasta, Chile, especially the balance between their intimate lives and the absences of their partners due to the shift work modality. We analyzed testimonies from men and women living in Antofagasta, which is considered to be one of the world’s three largest mining regions. Among the main findings, power relations based on the hegemonic gender model supported by the sexual division of labor were identified, which persist in this mining area, despite progress in gender equality issues in Chile. Although there are differences between the discourses of men and women and their subjective positioning, we propose that both actively collaborate with the reproduction of social gender relations marked by male domination. We propose that the way in which couples live is associated with the organization of mining work and especially the shift system, which is central to the reproduction of the gender order with a heteropatriarchal tone.

The thought of Husein Muhammad regarding the teachings of Islam in society still raises many questions in the world of Qur’anic study and Hadith, especially his thoughts on the relation between men and women known as gender equality. As a person who wrestles in the world of pesantren, this gender deviation takes place because of the perspective of societys influenced by religious doctrines, in this classical Islamic literature is considered biased toward women. The mainstream interpretation by the classical scholars is still believed by the majority of Muslim societies to this day, still placing men as superior beings against women. This perspective is clearly contrary to the ideals of the Qur’an itself, namely equality and freedom to determine life’s choices without any threat and violence or coercion from anyone. The interpretation that is considered biased towards women, caused by mistakes in interpreting religious texts, does not occur because of the inability to interpret a text, but because of the sociocultural influence on the interpreter in which they live, involved in interpreting the texts . Not only that, the taking of traditions of the Prophet as explanation and advocate of opinion of scholars sometimes not known the quality, not shahih, maudhu ‘even dai’f. Husein’s ideas are different from other Islamic feminists. The peculiarity of Husein’s ideas in carrying the discourse of Islam and gender is the depth of Islamic classical literature in analyzing or counterarging arguments against gender inequalities in societies rarely shared by other feminists. It is considered necessary to know how Husein Muhammad reinterpreted verses of the Qur’an that were considered biased against women. Though his thoughts were widely opposed by the ‘ulama, Husein has given so much to the idea of defending and liberating women from oppression.

This paper explores young heterosexual Indian Gujaratis’ ideals and experiences of intimate relationships in the UK and India, focusing particularly on gender relations. Men and women in both contexts had similar aspirations of intimacy, but women were likely to be more in favour of egalitarian values. What this meant was interpreted differently in India and the UK. In neither setting, however, was gender equality fully realised in the lives of the participants due to both structural and normative constraints. Despite this gap between ideals and experiences, participants portrayed their relationships as broadly equal and conjugal. It appears that the heavy emphasis on love and intimacy is making it difficult for women to negotiate a more egalitarian relationship with their partner, since any ‘flaw’ in the relationship potentially brings into question its loving foundations. In this way, women tend to ignore or justify the gendered roles and inequalities apparent in their relationships and paint a picture of blissful marital equality despite evidence to the contrary.

Marxism women-theory advocates women to achieve gender equality and liberation through employment. But due to the influence of culture,if the promotion of female employment, women may face the dual pressure of housework and work, that is, the promotion of female employment may deviate from the ruling effect of people’s happiness. This study aims to explore the relationship between labor time, cross-generational care and women’s subjective well-being by using the data of CFPS (2016). Findings are as follow. Firstly, the time spent on housework differs between men and women, and the burden of housework still falls on women. Secondly, women’s employment reduces women’s subjective well-being to a certain extent, but this effect turns into a positive one under the moderating effect of cross-generational care. China’s family culture weakens the negative impact of the increase in working hours of women to a certain extent.

Abstract From the 20th century to the 21st century, feminist model of interpretation has been developing rapidly. The majority of feminist interpreters, both men and women, criticize the centrality of men in interpreting the Qur'an.They emphasize the argument that the interpreter's gender bias is still dominated by men, most of which have shaped the paradigm of understanding the Qur'an and Islam in general. In contrast to secular feminists, Muslim feminist scholars do not reject Islam itself. Instead, they refer to the Qur'an and the Prophet's Sunnah to support their claim that the Qur'an needs to be reinterpreted. This research specifically tries to study and explore the concept of gender equality in Islam, especially in the perspective of Muhammad Syahrur's hermeneutic thinking. This research analyzes the real relationship between men and women in Islam, whether the views of past scholars are still relevant in positioning the status of men and women. In other words, this research tries to carry out a contemporary reading of the gender equality concept in Islam, which specifically refers to Muhammad Syahrur's hermeneutic. On this basis, this study uses an analysis-hermeneutic approach. Through Syahrur's hermeneutics, the researcher critically analyzes the relationship between men and women in Islam, and carries out a contemporary reading of it. Therefore it  is expected to be able to produce a new thought product about gender in Islam that is more contextual and in accordance with the dynamics of the times.
