Echinochloa colona (L.) Link is distributed throughout the world is a persistent weed species. It is a valuable fodder and traditionally used in spleen and hemorrhage problems. Recently found that it has wound healing, antioxidant and antimicrobial property. The objectives of this review to present existing information to pin point key findings which would helpful to explore medicinal importance of this weed.

Abstract Ballota nigra, also known as black horehound is a common medical herb used in folk medicine around the world. First reported mentions of its medical properties and use goes as far as the 13th century. The use of black horehound depends on regions and countries. It is used mostly to treat e.g. mild sleep disorders, nervousness, upset stomach, wound healing. It can be used as an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiprotozoal, antifungal drug. Moreover, it has been reported as a potential cancer drug. This extensive usage is particularly interesting for us. The aim of this review is to present available data on B. nigra pharmacological effects and known traditional uses gathered from a wide range of scientific articles published in 1997–2020.

Invasions of adventive weed species are one of the leading factors in the transformation of agrobiocenoses and urban cenoses. Naturalization of new species leads to serious ecological, social and economic consequences. One of the dangerous invasive plants is ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L.), which is widespread in many countries of the world, including Russia. This weed plant causes significant economic damage and harmful impact on human health, since its pollen is a strong allergen. Modern technologies of agricultural production do not always give positive results in the fight against this plant. Therefore, it is necessary to develop new ecologically low-hazard methods to control it, aimed at reducing the productivity of pollen and seeds in order to reduce allergic diseases among people and limit the expansion of its range.

Cyperus rotundus (nut grass in English) is a perennial erect sedge plant and is distributed in over 90 countries of the world, where it has been mostly classified as a highly invasive weed. Despite this classification, the plant has been considered from traditional times to be medicinally important. The traditional uses of the plant in various countries include uses against various gastrointestinal tract disorders, skin diseases, leprosy, fever, and neurological disorders. Evaluation of the plant and especially its rhizomes in a scientific manner has revealed the presence of numerous phytochemicals and wide-ranging pharmacological activities, which include anti-microbial, gastrointestinal, wound healing, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, anti-malarial, anti-obesity, hepatoprotective, and anti-pyretic activity. The scientific validation of a number of traditional uses strongly indicates that the plant may prove useful in the discovery of a number of lead compounds and novel drugs.

Developing a multiple functional wound dressing suitable for different stages of wound healing is important for patients with special wound such as burn or decubital ulcers. In this study, poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA), dextran, and chitosan are integrated to produce ideal wound dressing where glutaraldehyde (GA) is used as the cross-linker. The result demonstrated that 6% PVA hydrogel with 0.25% chitosan was found to provide antimicrobial ability. The PVA/chitosan hydrogel combined with 4% dextran utilizing GA cross-linking also presents the high cell proliferation ability, which suggests that the hydrogel is potential as a wound dressing. In the following physical analyses, the addition of chitosan and dextran appeared to promote the thermostability, mechanical properties, water retention, and moisturizing ability in the PVA hydrogel. In conclusion, the PVA/chitosan/dextran hydrogel has promising potential such as high water content, antimicrobial property, and well cell proliferation, which can be applied to wound healing application.

Introduction: Treatment of the pilonidal sinus, due to the various surgery method, remains the current topic of discussion during surgeon meetings around the world. The newest methods of treatment consist in the excision and simultaneous closure of the wound with the cleft lift techniques. One of such methods is the Bascom 2 technique widely used in the world and less popular in Poland. Aim of the study: To evaluate the results of treatment of pilonidal cysts using the Bascom 2 method performed by one operator. Material and method: 50 patients (40 men, 10 women), Avg. 30.6 years of age, All patients treated with the Bascom 2 method in one surgical ward by one operator (resident during specialization training) with the use of a uniform surgical care for all operational protocols. The following were assessed: BMI, average hospitalization time, pain, post-operative complications, wound healing time, patient's quality of life, and the percentage of recurrences after surgery. The follow-up period ranged from 12 to 52 months. Results: Average BMI 27.13 kg / m2. Avg. time of hospitalization 2.95 days. Postoperative pain in the first 24 hours was on average 4.55 points. (+/- 2.24 points); on the 10th day of. 2.04 points (+/- 1.58 points); in the 30th day of the 0.76 points (+/- 1.1 points). Pain after healing 0.14 points (+/- 0.40 points). Postoperative complications occurred in 28.57% of patients (partial wound dehiscence (16.32%), serum leak (10.2%), hematoma (6.12%), total wound dehiscence (0%), wound infection (0%). The average time of full healing was 2.94 weeks. The recurrence occurred in one patient (2.04%). Conclusions: Bascom 2 method is characterized by low recurrence rate and short wound healing time. It is a safe, effective and patient-accepted treatment method. Statistically significantly improves the patient's quality of life one year after surgery in terms of both physical and mental health.

This review describes the genus Crotalaria focusing on its secondary metabolites and their medicinal applications. The genus Crotalaria of Fabaceae or Leguminosae family have about 600 species which are distributed in tropic and sub-tropic regions of the world. They are medicinally important due to production of various compounds. Traditional early medicines and drug discovery were based on natural products. Organisms produce some chemical compounds by their metabolic pathways that are not necessary for their growth and development and are known as secondary metabolites. This diverse group of compounds is synthesized by algae, plants, animals and fungi. These metabolites consist of variety of compounds such as phenols, coumarins, terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids and fatty acids. Secondary metabolites obtained from crotalaria exhibit anticancer, anti-rheumatoid arthritis, anti-allergic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiaging and wound healing activities along with many other medicinal applications.

It is estimated by the World Health Organization (WHO) that most of the world’s population depends on herbal medicine for their health care.Nigella sativa (N. sativa),also known as black-caraway and as “Kalonji,” is a well-known seed all over the world. It is one of the most common medicinal plants worldwide and contains many useful chemical constituents that we can find in its fixed oil, such as thymoquinone, thymohydroquinone, dithymoquinone, thymol, nigellicine, carvacrol, nigellimine, nigellicine, nigellidine, and alpha-hederin. Due to these numerous important ingredients it was found that it affects different areas of our body and has many pharmacological effects as antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and wound healing effect and also for acne vulgaris, skin cancer, pigmentation, and many cosmeceutical applications. Based on the folklore usage ofN. sativaseeds and oil, they are used in various systems of food and medicines. The aim of this article is to provide a detailed survey of the literature of cosmeceutical and external applications ofN. sativawhich is expected to stimulate further studies on this subject.

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum) is one of the most important pulse crops but it’s productivity in India is quite low. There are various reasons for low productivity. Weed control is the basic requirement and the major component of crop management. Weeds on an average reduce the crop yield by 40-87 per cent. Deciding time to control weeds requires detailed knowledge of the weed populations in the field. Different management practices like altering spacing, competitive cultivars, etc. can help in enhancing the productivity. With the world entering the precision-farming era, more emphasis is being put on the use of post-emergence herbicides. Application of two or more herbicide at the same time or as a double knockdown and integrating with hand-weeding provides desirable control of different weed species besides reducing the hazard of chemical weed control.

Thermal burns in animals represent an urgent problem for veterinary medicine, since the anti-burn drugs available on the world pharmacological market are not always adapted for use on animals and are approved for use in veterinary medicine. In this regard, the aim of the work was to use the wound healing spray “Acerbin” for medical purposes in the treatment of thermal burns and to evaluate its therapeutic efficacy by the rate of epithelialization of burn defects in the skin in laboratory animals. The work was carried out at the Department of Surgery and Therapy of the Kursk State Agricultural Academy, on laboratory white mice in the amount of 60 individuals, in which thermal burns were simulated in the croup and treated with applications of the Acerbin spray. To assess the rate of growth of epithelialization, planimetric measurements of the area of burns were carried out before treatment on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th and 14th days of treatment, as well as the corresponding mathematical calculations of the rate of reduction of burn defects. According to the research results, it was found that when applying the Acerbin spray, the burn rate index on the 3rd day was 0.25 ± 0.06; on the 5th day 0.58 ± 0.03; on the 7th day 0.74 ± 0.01; on the 10th day 0.86 ± 0.02; on the 14th day 0.95 ± 0.01. Thus, at the end of the therapeutic period, the index of the epithelialization rate of thermal burns approached the most physiologically justified numerical expression equal to “1.0”, which allows it to be recommended for use in veterinary medicine as the preparation of choice for the treatment of thermal burns of the skin in animals.
