The authors attempt to analyze and summarize the scientific contributions of the members of the Ukrainian Historical Association, mostly published in The Ukrainian Historian journal in 1965–1991 and in the book format. At the same time, the main attention is paid not only to research issues but also to research tools of individual members of society, formed both by their professional training and socio-cultural environment of their lives and scientific creativity, which determined the level of research opportunities. The society was founded in 1965 on the initiative of the eminent researcher and organizer of science Lubomyr Roman Wynar (1932–2017), with the support of other scientists. The Ukrainian Historian journal, around which the unification took place, was founded by the scientist in 1963. The Association brought together researchers from different periods of the Ukrainian historical process, who belonged to several scientific generations, lived on different continents and, due to different life scenarios, did not always belong to the Western university environment, yet created the scientific product in Ukrainian and foreign languages. Based on correspondence and publications, the authors attempt to trace the reception of approaches to the formulation and elucidation of scientific problems, by members of the Western and Ukrainian Soviet Science. The article draws attention to the possibility of using source materials on the history of Ukraine, approaches to the study of sources, the creation of a source base for the study of events of the twentieth century by the Ukrainian scholars abroad. Particular attention is paid to the importance of the Ukrainian language in publications, and the possibility of interaction with the Western scientific world.

The article explains the key concept "multicultural education of future teachers of foreign languages". The essence and content of the notions "multiculturalism", "multicultural education" are clarified; the connection between them is established. The influence of these concepts on the process of professional training of future teachers of foreign languages is also revealed. The concept of culture is defined, namely the origin and history of ancient, medieval and modern times of the use of this concept. The relevance of teaching humanitarian disciplines in higher education institutions, especially a foreign language, is highlighted, which expands the language knowledge of students and gives them the opportunity to become full members of a multicultural environment. Also, synonymous terms for the concept of "polyculture" and the main goals of polycultural education are presented. So, we can state that the multiculturalism of the personality of future teachers of a foreign language consists in striving during intercultural communication with representatives of other languages; to understand a specific foreign language system of language and concepts of culture, their system of value-semantic guidelines, to integrate new experience into one's own system of language and concepts of culture, and also to analyze the system of one's own culture through cognition of a new culture, which leads to the formation of multicultural value guidelines.

Nowadays the development of medicine and rehabilitation in Ukraine is especially important for society. Leading Ukrainian specialists are acquainting the foreign experience, in particular, French one, and use the best achievements in daily practice. The purpose of the article is to analyze the history of kinesitherapy in France from 1914 till 1969. The obtained results can be used to supplement and expand courses in higher education institutions of medical and physical culture and sports profile. The scientific novelty of the paper consists in the fact that for the first time in the Ukrainian educational system the history of kinesitherapy in France in the twentieth century will be presented. To achieve this purpose the complex of scientific (analysis, synthesis, generalization) and special-historical (historical-typological and historical-systemic) methods have been used. Results. It was found that the consequences of the First and Second World Wars had a significant impact on the development of kinesitherapy in France. The use of massage and remedial gymnastics contributed to the processes of rehabilitation and functional recovery of the wounded people. The profession of masseur-kinesitherapist was officially founded in France in 1946, April 30. It was the combination of massage, remedial gymnastics, functional recovery and physiotherapy. The professional training of masseurs-kinesitherapists at schools lasted two years. The main attention was paid to the peculiarities of the use of massage in combination with physical therapy in traumatology, neurology and rheumatology. One of the principal conditions for those who wanted to study was French citizenship and perfect health. The French medical community tried to qualify the professional actions of massage therapists in accordance with the needs of the specialists they cooperate with. The three year studies was officially introduced only in 1969.

Abstract The growing number of foreign applicants looking forward to getting education in Ukrainian medical universities makes us find the ways how to improve and make effective the pre-professional training system of foreign medical applicants for further education. The article deals with the issues of the history of formation and development of the preprofessional training system of foreign medical applicants in Ukraine. On the ground of the electronic databases of the official websites of higher educational establishments, the data on years of opening first offices of the dean, departments and preparatory faculties for foreign medical applicants in Ukrainian medical universities are analyzed and systematized. Also the data on the setting up preparatory faculties at other universities who carry out licensed training of foreign students of the medical profile are presented. The data on the operating and management of such institutions in the system of the University administration are generalized. It’s revealed that during the years of its functioning the pre-professional training has changed, in particular the system was commercialized and the institutions involved in training foreign applicants have been reorganized. The modern trends in teaching foreign medical students at the preparatory faculties of the Ukrainian medical universities are displayed. Based on the analysis of the data it is concluded that the system of the pre-professional training of foreign medical applicants was set up in the 50s-60s years of the twentieth century. During this time, some positive experience in the preparation of future international medical specialists has been gained. The system of the pre-professional training of foreign medical applicants has been comprehensively improved and an effective system of managing foreign medical applicants has been created.

This study was an attempt to understand how the available alternative source materials, such as oral testimonies can serve as valuable assets to unveiling certain aspects of maritime history in India. A number of themes in maritime history in India failed to get the attention of the generation of historians, because of the paucity of written documents. Unlike in Europe, the penning down of shipping activities was not a concern for the authorities at the port in India. The pamphlets and newsletters declared the scheduled departure of the ship in Europe but, in India, this was done verbally. Therefore, maritime history in India remained marginalised. Hence, in this article, I make an endeavour to perceive how the oral testimonies can help shed some new light on certain aspects of maritime history in India, such as life on the ship, maritime practices, and perceptions among the littoral people in coastal societies. This article also outlines an approach on how the broader question on the transformation of scattered maritime practices among coastal societies can be adapted and transferred into an organised institution of law by the nineteenth century, and how these can be pursued in future. I also suggest in this article that the role of Europeans, especially the British, in the process of transformation, can be investigated further through oral testimonies in corroboration with the colonial archival records.

The article is devoted to the memory of Lyudmila Mikhailovna Koval (October 17, 1933 – February 15, 2020), historian, Head of the History sector of the Russian State Library (RSL) and the Museum of Library history. The author presents brief biographical information about L.M. Koval, the author of more than 350 scientific and popular scientific works in Russian and in 9 foreign languages. She published 29 books in Publishing houses “Nauka”, “Kniga”, “Letniy Sad”, ”Pashkov Dom”, most of the works are dedicated to the Library. Special place in the work of L.M. Koval is given to the Great Patriotic War theme. The article considers the works devoted to the activities of Library staff during the War period. L.M. Koval paid much attention to the study of activities of the Library’s Directors. She prepared books and articles about the Directors of the Moscow Public and Rumyantsev Museums and Library from the end of the 19th century and almost to the end of the 20th century: N.V. Isakov, D.S. Levshin, V.A. Dashkov, M.A. Venevitinov, I.V. Tsvetaev, V.D. Golitsyn, A.K. Vinogradov, V.I. Nevsky, N.M. Sikorsky. The author notes contribution of L.M. Koval to the study of the Library’s history. Specialists in the history of librarianship widely use bibliography of L.M. Koval in their research. The list of sources contains the main works of L.M. Koval, and the Appendix includes reviews of publications by L.M. Koval and the works about her.

The article examines the work of the “Moscow Longevity” state project/program. The analysis is carried through on the assessments given by the elderly residents of Moscow, as well as specialists from social welfare institutions responsible for the implementation of the program. The program is newly established and has been working in Moscow for over two years. The author names 4 stages for the implementation of the program: preparatory, trial, main, and “special” stages. This staging is based on the existing legal acts regulating the implementation of the project, as well as on the analysis of sociological research. The primary sources of data are: interviews conducted by the author with elderly residents of Moscow regarding the “Moscow Longevity” program (April-May 2020); surveys and focus groups conducted by the author during her work at the Moscow Institute of Additional Professional Training of Social Workers (2016-2017). The article examines statistics and publications in the mass media concerning the success of the “Moscow Longevity” project. Elderly Muscovites and employees of social organizations highly appreciated the ongoing activities, noting their relevance and timeliness, both for involving senior citizens in an active lifestyle and for adapting the elderly to a new period of life “for themselves”. Participants of the program take computer courses, study foreign languages, attend dance lessons, go to sports classes, develop artistic and aesthetic skills, master tourism, and visit cultural sites in Moscow. However, the program also has significant drawbacks, eliminating which requires significant material and technical resources as well as personnel work. Each year the participants voiced the same problems associated with the poor condition of the premises and the lack of an individual approach to activities’ organization. The “special” stage related to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic revealed a lack of computer skills among the program participants (despite the conducted computer classes) and inability to quickly adapt to new conditions.

This paper first addresses the question: what is a dust explosion? Afterwards, some specific issues are briefly reviewed: materials that can give dust explosions, factors influencing ignitability and explosibility of dust clouds, the combustion of dust clouds in air, ignition sources that can initiate dust explosions, primary and secondary dust explosions, dust flash fires, explosions of “hybrid mixtures”, and detonation of dust clouds. Subsequently, measures for dust explosion prevention and mitigation are reviewed. The next section presents the case history of an industrial dust explosion catastrophe in China in 2014. In the final section, a brief review is given of some current research issues that are related to the prevention and mitigation of dust explosions. There is a constant need for further research and development in all the areas elucidated in the paper.

The completion in 1967 of thirty years of Irish Historical Studies has been the occasion for a stocktaking (still in progress) of the achievement of those years in Irish historiography. They are coming to be seen as an era of remarkable advances in specialist research, in professional technique, in historical organisation, and in the publication of special studies, source materials, bibliographies and aids to research. Though this research has been unevenly spread, it has produced an impressive body of new knowledge on many periods and topics. The conditions for scholarly work on Irish history have thus been transformed; and there is a world of difference between the prospects for Irish historiography in 1938 and now.

The history of literature in Persian has not been sufficiently studied although it is almost twelve centuries old, and was at times in widespread use in Afghanistan, Eastern Turkestan, India, Turkey and the Caucasus, as well as in Iran and Central Asia. The comparatively late development of Iranian studies and the condition of source materials are to blame for this situation.
