Abutilon indicum belongs to the family Malvaceae is known as Indian mallow commonly. The plant was traditionally claimed to possess many medicinal properties and was used in folklore and traditional system s of medicine like Ayurveda. It contains various chemical constituents like flavonoids, phenols, sterols, tannins etc. and was scientifically investigated for many activities like an immune stimulant, dieresis, anti-epileptic, anti-ulcer and anti-parasitic activities. This article reviews the research work that was performed on the plant to publish its phytochemistry, Pharmacognosy and Pharmacological profile of the plant.

Tinospora is highly distributed in the tropical and subtropical region of India. This climbing deciduous shrub widely reported in China, Bangladesh and Srilanka. The plant is rich in many phytoconstituents that are useful in drug designing. It is highly used against cancer, tumour suppression, and act as an anti-allergic compound. It is commonly known as gudhuchi, belongs to the family Menispermeaceae. Tinospora is most valuable herb known for its medicinal properties from Vedic periods and cures various diseases such as malaria, asthma and urinary disorders. The genus Tinospora consists of many classes of chemicals such as alkaloids, diterpenoids lactones, steroids, aliphatic compounds and polysaccharides. It is the best remedy for both children as well as adults against respiratory tract diseases. The plant shows various antioxidant, anti-hyperglycemic, anti-neoplastic and hepatoprotective properties. In this review article medicinal property, chemical constituents and full description have been explored.

Abstract Background Rosa alba L. belongs to the family Rosaceae. This species is widely cultivated in Europe, Asia, North America, and Northwest Africa due to its fragrance, ornamental, and medicinal values. It is commonly known as white oil-bearing rose, white rose, white rose of York, backyard rose, and sufaid gulab. Main text Rosa alba L. has many biological properties like antioxidant, antimicrobial, antifungal, antifertility, teratogenic, memory enhancing, cytotoxic, and genotoxic activities. The essential oil of Rosa alba L. possesses good antimicrobial activity and consists of many chemical constituents like- citronellol, geraniol, nerol, linalool, citral, carvacrol, eugenol, etc. Conclusion This article briefly reviews the cultivation, traditional uses, phytochemistry, and biological activities of Rosa alba L. Many research papers have been published on the proposed plant and still, there is a very vast scope of research on it. Therefore, this review will be very fruitful for those scientists who are doing or plan to do research work on this plant. All the scientific findings written in this review are explored from Google web, Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Abstracts (MAPA), and SciFinder. To date, it is the first systematic review article of such kind, on this plant.

Andrographis paniculata (AP) is commonly known as creat or green chiretta belongs to the family Acanthaceae. It is also known as Kalmegh and popularly called as King of bitters. It was widely used in the traditional system of medicines such as Siddha system, Ayurvedic system and Chinese medicine for the regular treatment of a common cold. Some of the reported health benefits are Antidiabetic, Antipyretic, Hepatoprotective, Antioxidant, Antimalarial, Anti-cancer, Antityphoid, Anti-diarrhoea, antioedema, etc. Whole plant possesses medicinal property and leaves are explicitly used for therapeutic care. The plant contains four major diterpenoids such as andrographolide, neoandrographolide,14-deoxyandrographolide, 14-deoxy-11,12-didehydroandrographolide and also includes other phytoconstituents such as flavonoidssesquiterpene lactones, etc. Andrographolide is found as major constituent in the leaves and reported for a wide variety of pharmacological activities. The purpose of this review is to brief the plant's literature survey via internet sources such as google scholar and PubMed providing a medium to explain the plant's ethnobotany information on conventional usage, essential chemical constituents and selected plant pharmacology activities are obtained from existing research articles to frame the review. The present analysis also illustrates the pharmacological and phytochemical characteristics of Andrographis paniculata from which researchers may get benefited for further qualitative research.

 Objective: The main objective of review is an effort to give detailed information on Valeriana jatamansi and its multiple medicinal properties. Methods: As per the literature, the plant V. jatamansi is a perennial herb and found at subtemperate Himalayan regions of the Kumaon and Garhwal. The plant most popularly known as “Valerian.” The plant belongs to the family Valerianaceae. The roots and rhizomes of the plants are traditionally used to treat ulcers, jaundice, dry cough, seminal weakness, skin diseases, leprosy, and for sleep enhancement due to the presence of a variety of different chemical constituents such as sesquiterpenes, coumarins, iridoids, lignanoids, alkaloids, and flavonoids. From literature, the reported methods performed for different pharmacological activities have been thoroughly discussed and complied. Results: Most of the studies compiled from literature shown that V. jatamansi possess antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, anxiolytic, and neuroprotective activities. Conclusion: The review reveals that continuous research on this plant is needed to know the exact molecular mechanism and further elaborative studies can lead to develop safe therapeutic use in modern medicine.

Background: Citraka or Sveta Citraka (Plumbago zeylanica L.) is an important medicinal plant mentioned in Ayurvedic classics, belongs to the family Plumbaginaceae. The root of the plant exhibits medicinal properties. It has a broad range of pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, antidiabetic, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, wound healing and cytotoxic. Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate phyto-pharmacognostical standardization with HPTLC fingerprinting of root of P. zeylanica, one of the most accepted and beneficial medicinal plant in Ayurveda. Materials and Methods: P. zeylanica was collected from Konni, Kerala, India during the month of May 2018 and its root was studied for macroscopic, microscopic, physico-chemical, preliminary phytochemical screening and HPTLC fingerprinting following the standard protocol recommended by The Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India and Quality Standards of Indian Medicinal Plants. Results: The root is long, stout, cylindrical and reddish to dark brown in colour. The transverse section of root showed 5-7 rows of small cubical or rectangular celled cork with light yellow walls, polygonal or slightly tangentially elongated cortex cells containing starch grains and coloured contents, phloem containing small groups of fibres, radially arranged xylem vessels and narrow, 1-4 seriate medullary rays. Physico-chemical analysis showed water soluble extractive value as 26.11±0.01 w/w and alcohol soluble extractive value as 15.85±0.00 w/w. Preliminary phytochemical analysis of root decoction showed the presence of alkaloids, carbohydrates, tannins, saponins, resin and quinones. Conclusion: The information obtained from this research work may be useful to establish the botanical as well as analytical standards for the root of P. zeylanica.

Wheatgrass (Triticum aestivum Linn.) refers to the young grass of the common wheat plant which belongs to the family Poaceae. It is known as thepowerhouse of nutrients and vitamins. The juice of wheatgrass is known as “green blood” which contains an excessive amount of chlorophyll content(70% of the total chemical constituents), antioxidants, active enzymes, vitamins, and other vital nutrients which are used to enhance lungs and heartfunction. Wheatgrass juice is also taken as a supplementary diet to boost the immune system and provide strength to the human body. From reportedstudies, it is proved that molecules of human blood hemoglobin and wheatgrass chlorophyll contain the same structure and can act as a substitute forhemoglobin in hemoglobin deficiency conditions. It is a highly nutritive plant and is used to cure diseases such as cancer, diabetes, ulcer, rheumatoidarthritis, hyperlipidemia, thalassemia, anemia, kidney stone, asthma, digestive problems, and skin diseases. Pharmacologically, wheatgrass carriesproperties such as anti-diabetic, anti-allergic, antioxidant, anti-ulcer, anticancer, hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antiarthriticproperties. In this review paper, attempts have been made to provide a brief overview of wheatgrass, its pharmacological activities, andayurvedic view.

Leguminosae is one of the largest family with three sub-families and it has a great ethno-botanical and ethno-medicinal importance in indigenous and urban communities throughout the Chhattisgarh. Leguminous plants are widely used for many purposes by peoples of rural areas and it includes many important cultivated economic food crops. The research work was initiated to get information and reports the traditional and medicinal uses of the family leguminosae by tribal peoples of Chhattisgarh. The paper also deals with an account of endemic and rare plants of Leguminosae existence of Chhattisgarh. In our field survey we got 3 rare plants species Alysicarpus bupleurifolicus, Flemingia stricta,and Zornia gibbosa belonging to Papilionatae sub-family. They had highly medicinal properties that’s why their more exploitation done by tribal people and get become a rare plant species which is also included in BSI report of endemic and rare plants of Chhattisgarh 2004. A total of 63 medicinal plant species are used by the local health healer for the treatment of different disease. The medicinal plants used by the traditional users of Rajnandgaon and Balod district are arranged alphabetically followed by botanical name, common name, flowering time, habit and their uses.

Dendrophthoe falcata (L.f.) Ettingsh is an important medicinal plant belonging to the family Loranthaceae. It is perennial, climbing and woody parasitic plant of family Loranthaceae. It is ethnomedicinally used for treating ulcers, asthma, impotence, paralysis skin diseases and wounds. In the present study, an attempt was made to investigate the phytochemical constituents present in the Dendrophthoe falcata (L.f.) Ettingsh stem. The preliminary phytochemical screening in different solvents extract was done by using standard methods. The phytochemical screening revealed the presence of carbohydrates, protein and amino acids, fixed oils and fats, saponins, sterols, alkaloids, phenols, tannins, flavonoids, anthocyanin and anthraquinones in different solvent extracts. GC-MS analysis was performed on the methanolic extract to find out the chemical constituents. The GC-MS study revealed the presence of about 51 bioactive compounds. Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Cycloheptasiloxane, Cyclooctasiloxane, Cyclononasiloxane, Phthalic acid, Hexadecanoic acid, Cyclodecasiloxane, Cyclononasiloxane, Tetracosane, Tetratriacontane, Benzoic acid, 1-Monolinoleoylglycerol trimethylsilyl ether, Octadecane, ç-Sitosterol are some of the major phytoconstituents reported from the sample. Further research work is needed on these identified compounds to analyse their mode of action and usefulness in phytopharmaceutical industries.

Since ancient times human utilized the nature to cure various ailments. The knowledge of medicinal plants resulted in the development of various indigenous systems of medicine worldwide. Serendipitous discovery as well as scientific approach on the reason for medicinal properties of plants gave the knowledge of chemical constituents such as secondary metabolites in plants. Wrightia tinctoria which is commonly known as ‘Danthapala’ is a known potential medicinal plant, the leaves of which is traditionally used in the treatment of psoriasis and non-specific dermatitis in Siddha and Ayurvedic systems of medicine and distributed in tropical region belongs to the family Apocynaceae. This plant is beneficial for the treatment of dandruff, various scalp and skin disorders. Phytochemical and pharmacological investigation on the various parts of the plant showed anti-ulcer, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anthelmintic, anti-cancer, anti-dandruff, wound healing and anti-anxiety activity. The current review focus on providing an update on the recent pharmacological and phytochemical investigations on the plant by researchers around the globe with special emphasis on Antisporiatic, Antifungal, Antibacterial, Antiviral, Cytotoxic, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-diabetic, Analgesic, Hepatoprotective, Anthelmintic, and Wound healing activities.

Cinnamon zeylanicum is one of the species of cinnamon plant from the family of Lauraceae. It is not only the main ingredient of spices but also exhibits many medicinal properties. Anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-tyrosinase, anti-carcinogenic and anti-mutagenic are some of the activities shown by cinnamon. Radical scavenging and reducing properties of cinnamon are considered as beneficial and important in the field of medicine. Cinnamon zeylanicum consists of a variety of phenolic and flavonoid compounds in different parts of plant. These compounds play major role in antioxidant potential just because of their significant structure and moieties. Cinnamon essential oils are also used for treatment of chronic disorders and it proves to be best alternative to synthetic antioxidants. In present review article we summarized the Cinnamon zeylanicum antioxidant activity by using antioxidant assays, its chemical constituents, its beneficial effects on humans and its applications in various industries as antioxidants.
