The article presents the study results of clinical effectiveness of orthopedic rehabilitation for patients with dentition defects with different designs of implant-supported dental bridges. The work describes and analyzes complications that occurred during the operation of dental bridges and identifies the optimal design with the most predictable prognosis. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the results of prosthetics in patients with dentition defects with various implant-supported dental bridge designs in different observation terms. Materials and methods. For the clinical investigation we selected 90 patients with dentition free-end defects, who were divided into three groups, 30 patients in each group. Group I patients had dental bridges with cobalt-chromium alloy, faced with feldspar ceramic made, patients of II group – prosthetic constructions on the basis of zirconium dioxide with feldspar ceramic coating, patients of III group – zirconium dioxide framework with following press-ceramic coating. Oral hygiene index OHI-S and Leus comprehensive periodontal index, compliance of the fabricated dental bridges with clinical requirements, and the most common complications that occurred during the use of these fixed prostheses were evaluated for all patients. Results. After 36 months, we found that the highest mean value of OHI-S index was in patients of group I, specifically 1.24±0.19 points. Significantly (p<0.05) lower this index was in patients of group II – 0.64±0.09 points. Minimal OHI-S index was found in group III patients, being at 0.43±0.04 points, it was significantly (p<0.05) different from indicators of group I and group II patients. The mean values of comprehensive periodontal index also differed significantly (p<0.05) in all groups, their indices ranged between 1.24±0.21 points, 0.35±0.03 points and 0.24±0.02 points, respectively. Group II patients' orthopedic constructions turned out to be the most effective, with 96.7% of the prostheses having no malfunctions after 3 years of use. The only violation that occurred in this group was full fracture of intermediate part of one dental bridge. The number of dental bridges that functioned without complications in groups I and III during the same term was 70.0% and 90.0%, respectively. Among the complications, the most frequently observed were chipping of the aesthetic coating of the prosthesis, integrity and retention violations of the dental bridges in different terms. The worst hygienic and comprehensive periodontal indexes were recorded in patients with metal-ceramic dental bridges. Conclusion. The use of zirconium dioxide frameworks and veneered feldspar ceramics provides the most reliable functioning of fixed implant-supported dental bridges and the minimum number of complications in the observation period of 36 months

Background. The specificity of acupuncture points (acupoints) is one of the key concepts in traditional acupuncture theory, but the question of whether there is adequate scientific evidence to prove or disprove specificity has been vigorously debated in recent years. Acupoint laterality is an important aspect of acupoint specificity. Data is particularly scarce regarding the laterality of the same channel, namesake acupoint located on opposite sides of the body. Our previous study results suggest that Neiguan acupoint (PC6) has the laterality. The aim of this study was to investigate whether Hegu (LI4) also has laterality from the perspective of heart rate variability.Methods. A total of twenty-eight healthy female volunteers were recruited for this study and were randomly separated into the group I (n=14) and the group II (n=14) according to the register order. In the group I, left LI4 was stimulated in the first epoch and the right LI4 was stimulated in the second epoch. In the group II, right LI4 was stimulated in the first epoch and left LI4 was stimulated in the second epoch. Electrocardiogram was recorded and heart rate variability was analyzed.Results. The results show that there were no significant differences of heart rate variablity between the group I and the group II in the time domain and in the frequency domain.Conclusions. Bilateral Hegu acupoints have the same effect on the heart rate variability of the healthy subjects.

Study Objective: To assess, based on 3D-ultrasonography data, endometrial receptivity to implantation in women who have undergone conservative surgery for ovarian endometriomas (OE). Study Design: This was a prospective, comparative, clinical study. Materials and Methods: One hundred and seventy-two women who had undergone excision of OE were examined in the study: 114 patients with anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels below 1.2 ng/mL (Group I, including subgroup A made up of 44 women younger than 35 and subgroup B made up of 70 women aged 35 to 40) and 58 patients with AMH ≥1.2 ng/mL (Group II). 3D-ultrasonography was performed at six and 12 months after cyst removal (between days 6 and 8 after ovulation). The VOCAL software was used to assess endometrial volume and volumetric blood flow indices, such as vascularization index (VI), flow index (FI), and vascularizationflow index (VFI). Study Results: One year after the surgery, endometrial volume in women from subgroup IA and Group II and volumetric blood flow indices in women from Group II did not significantly differ from population mean values. In subgroup IB endometrial gland volume remained reduced throughout the observation period; hemodynamics did not improve in either the endometrium (VI: 2.39 ± 1.57% after six months and 2.32 ± 1.44% after 12 months) or the subendometrial layer (VI: 10.96 ± 5.68% and 11.86 ± 4.59%, respectively). Conclusion: The structural and hemodynamic abnormalities revealed in the endometrium in the postoperative period should be viewed as factors worsening endometrial receptivity to implantation. Keywords: ovarian endometriosis, endometrial disorders, 3D-ultrasonography, volumetric blood flow indices.

The study of the process of adaptation of the Belgian breed bovine cattle to the conditions of the Voronezh Region was based on the biochemical blood parameters and mineral metabolism. The experiment included 20 animals divided into four groups (five heads in each group): Group I – covering age heifers, Group II – heifers, Group III – first-calf cows a month after calving, Group IV – one-month-old heifers. In some groups, adaptation processes resulted in deviations from the reference values. In Group II, the level of BUN was 4.7% higher than the norm. In Groups I and IV, the levels of glucose were higher by 7.6% and 38.5%, respectively. In Groups II and III, ALT levels were higher than the norm by 9.1%; in Group I – by 15.7%. In Group II, the level of AST was higher by 5.8% in comparison with the norm. The analysis of mineral metabolism showed that the content of iron was lower than the reference values in first-calf cows in Group III and in heifers in Group IV by 14.4 and 10.8%, respectively. In Group II, the content of copper met the upper border of the reference values. In Group IV, it was elevated by 18.2% in comparison with the norm. The specified deviations indicated the intensification of the metabolic processes during the adaptation of animals to new conditions. The study results showed that the animals of the Belgian breed were capable of adaptation, which provided successful adaptation to new conditions of the Voronezh Region (Russia).

Background/Objective: Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) is an abnormal growth of prostate observed commonly in elderly males. Artemisinin has been reported to reduce the levels of testosterone. This study is designed to evaluate the efficacy of Artemisinin on testosterone propionate (TP) induced benign prostate hyperplasia. Materials and methods: Male wistar albino rats (n=24) were separated into four groups of six rats each. Group I was served as control and distilled water using tween 80 an emulsifying agent was administered subcutaneously. BPH was induced by testosterone propionate 3mg/kg (Group II), S.C. daily for 28 days. Group III was BPH + Finasteride treated group (10mg/kg orally for 28 days) and BPH + Artemisinin treated group (Group IV) (50 mg/kg orally for 28 days). Result: The study results showed significantly high levels of serum prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and an elevation in prostate weight and prostatic index in Group II (BPH) when compared with Group I. The histopathological examination showed an increase in the epithelial proliferation of prostatic cells with involutions protruding into the lumen in BPH group when compared to the normal group. Treatment with Artemisinin (50 mg/kg) reduced the levels of PAP, LDH, prostate weight and prostatic index to a significant extent and restored the histoarchitectural features of the cells. Conclusion: The present study concludes that the Artemisinin is efficacious in testosterone propionate induced BPH. This could be attributed, at least partly, to its anti-inflammatory property or its role in testosterone level reduction or as a Vitamin D receptor modulator.

Introduction/Aim. Gingivitis is a common occurrence in children and may well be thought as a risk factor for the appearance and progression of the diseases of parodontal tissues. It is thus necessary to react in a timely and adequate fashion to prevent the disease to become serious and produce parodontopathy. The aim of the study was to establish the efficacy of hyaluronic acid in the treatment of chronic gingivitis in children. Methods. The study enrolled 130 children with permanent dentition. All of the examinees were divided into three groups: group I - 50 patients with chronic gingivitis in which only the basic treatment was applied; group II - 50 patients with chronic gingivitis in which hyaluronic acid was applied in addition to basic treatment; group III - 30 examinees with healthy gingiva (control group). Assessment of oral hygiene and status of the gingiva and parodontium was done using the appropriate indexes before and after the treatment. Inflammation of the gingiva was monitored by way of cytomorphometric studies. Results. The pretreatment values of the plaque index (PI) were high: in the group I PI was 1.94; in the group II PI was 1.68. After the treatment, the PI value was reduced to null in both groups (PI = 0). In the group III PI was 0.17. The bleeding index (BI) in the group I was 2.02 before and 0.32 after the treatment; the BI value in the group II was 1.74 before and 0.16 after the treatment. In the group III BI was 0. In the group I, the Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN) was 1.66 before and 0.32 after the treatment; in the group II, the CPITN value was 1.5 before and 0.24 after the treatment. In the group III, the CPITN value was 0. In the group I, the size of the nuclei of the stratified squamous epithelium of the gingiva was reduced, although not so much as the nuclear size in the group II of examinees. Conclusion. Basic treatment is able to successfully treat chronic gingivitis in children. The use of hyaluronic acid together with the basic treatment can markedly improve the treatment effect.

Study Objective: To optimize pregnancy management and improve delivery outcomes in women with infertility of endocrine origin after the use of assisted reproductive technologies (ART). Study Design: This was an analytical prospective study. Materials and Methods: One hundred and twenty patients with singleton pregnancy were observed: 74 women with infertility of endocrine origin who had undergone in vitro fertilization (IVF) (Group I) and 46 women who became pregnant spontaneously (Group II). The main group (Group I) was divided into subgroup IA (n = 44), in which a comprehensive approach to pregnancy was applied (obstetric pessary and micronized progesterone), and subgroup IB (n = 30) consisting of patients for whom micronized progesterone alone was used. Study Results: Groups I and II differed significantly in miscarriage risk rates: 60.8% and 30.4%, respectively. This complication was most often observed in subgroup IB (80.0%), 2.6 times more often than in Group II (χ2 = 5.700; p = 0,029). There were also statistically significant differences between the groups in the rate of preterm delivery (PD), which was 5.6 times higher in the main group than in the control group (24.3% vs. 4.3%, χ2 = 4.915; p = 0.027). The greatest difference from the control group (9.3 times higher rate) was observed in subgroup IB (χ2 = 10.156; p = 0.004). Conclusion: A comprehensive approach makes it possible to prolong pregnancy, reduce rates of PD by a factor of 2.9 and achieve full-term pregnancies in 86.4% of cases. Keywords: pregnancy, IVF, ART, obstetric complications, perinatal outcomes, Arabin pessary.

The objective of this case report was to describe the clinical sequence for occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) recovering with the manufacture of removable partial dentures (RPD) produced by computer-aided design and rapid prototyping. The patient presented to the Dentistry Department of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte reporting dissatisfaction with the superior RPD. At clinical investigation, a fracture in the minor connector and support at the region of tooth 15 was observed, in addition to severe OVD loss. In this case, after obtaining correct OVD, four more sessions were necessary for RPD fabrication. In the first appointment, intraoral scanning was performed to generate STL files used for path of insertion determination in the CAD software. The need for a guide plane on tooth 15 was observed, thus a preparation guide was designed and 3Dprinted to aid axial tooth reduction. At the second visit, after mouth preparation, another intraoral scanning was performed to acquire virtual working models. The RPD framework was designed and 3D printed in a castable resin pattern and invested for cobalt-chromium alloy melting. In the third visit, clinical evaluation of the framework and teeth and artificial gingiva colors selection were performed. The articulated models were then 3D printed, enabling pre-fabricated teeth to be assembled and acrylized. On the fourth appointment, RPD was installed and the patient received routine instructions. In this sense, the use of CAD/CAM technologies presented as a valuable tool to enhance restoration of OVD by the manufacturing of RPD.

Study Objective: To evaluate the effect of low molecular heparin (LMH) therapy on non-invasive prenatal DNA screening (NIPS) for chromosomal pathologies. Study Design: cross-sectional study. Materials and Methods. We have examined two groups of pregnant women: group I included 49 patients with constantly low foetal DNA (twice lower than 4%) selected out of 1,505 women examined at Kulakov National Medical Scientific Centre of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Perinatal Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Russia during the last 2 years. 17 women were administered LMH and 32 women did not receive it. Group II included 113 pregnant women with a normal foetal DNA fraction (at least 4%), that were selected randomly out of patients who were examined during the same period. 56 pregnant women were administered LMH and 57 were not. Next Generation Sequencing was used as an NIPS method. In order to determine the foetal DNA level, we amplified DNA loci with single nucleotide polymorphisms. Study Results. In group I (low foetal DNA fraction), where no LMH therapy was initiated, median values were 3.5% (3.2–3.8%); if LMH was administered, these values made 3.6% (3.4–3.9), while in group II — 7.7% (6.1–9.5%) and 7.9% (6.0–10.5%), respectively; no significant differences (p = 0.29 and p = 0.7, respectively) were recorded in both cases. Conclusion. Use of LMH does not affect NIPS; therefore, it is not necessary to adjust the LMH therapy in pregnant women prior to NIPS. Keywords: non-invasive prenatal DNA screening, heparin, anticoagulants, low molecular heparins, habitual abortion, pregnancy complications.

The objective of the present study was to investigate the effects of various types of fixed prostheses on periodontal tissues and explore the association of gingival biotype and gum recession in relation to prosthesis types. The study participants (N = 95) were divided into three groups based on the type of dental prosthesis: Group-I: cobalt-chrome (Co-Cr) ceramic prosthesis fabricated by the conventional method (n = 35); Group-II: consisted of patients with Co-Cr ceramic prostheses fabricated by a computer-aided design and computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique (n = 30); and Group-III: zirconia-based prostheses fabricated by the CAD/CAM technique (n = 30). Following the use of prostheses, periodontal examinations were performed using the Community Periodontal Index (CPI) and Modified Approximal Plaque Index (MAPI). In addition, the gingival biotype was examined using a probe transparency method. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), Version 20 (IBM Company, Chicago, IL, USA), was used to analyze the results, and the significance level was set at p = 0.05. It showed the MAPI results after the use of prosthetic rehabilitation for 12 months of periodontitis in 87.9% ± 15.4 of patients in Group-I, in 80.6% ± 17.97 in those in Group-II, and in 62.5% ± 21.4 in those in Group-III (p < 0.01). The CPI index results indicated a high prevalence of periodontal disease in all groups. The number of people with healthy periodontium constituted 17.1% of patients in Group-I, 24.2% in Group-II, and 37.1% in Group-III. Our study concluded that prosthetic treatment with periodontal diseases showed better outcomes while using dental prostheses fabricated by the CAD/CAM technique compared to the conventionally fabricated dental prostheses. The thin gingival biotype is more often associated with gingival recession than the thick biotype.
