The journey of the Indonesian government in implementing women representation policy has evolved. In the election of 2004,women representation policies have not mentioned the target of achievement for political parties. The policy only states that political parties are expected to implement gender equality in nominating candidates. Then in the year of  2009 election, the government had changed  the policy clause, and  states the percentage that must be achieved by political parties. However,  in 2004 and 2009 election only a few political parties,  implemented the policy. Yet, the  policy, which is implemented, in the 2014 election has changed. The clause of the policy became more distinct, for it contains sanctions which are applicable to any political parties that are not implementing the policy. The present study yielding that the more distinct the policy, the more likely it would be complied by all participating political parties. The effect of the complying political parties would be the increase of women participation in politics as candidates of legislatives.

Abstract: This article discusses political participation of women from the perspective of Islamic law.  In paricular, it will highlights a women political organization called KPPI (Kaukus Politik Perempuan Indonesia or Indonesian political women caucus).  There are obstacles and challenges for improving women political participation due to personal, internal and external issues. Women who run in local elections (constituencies) are still considered minimal. This condition is very apprehensive because the constitution has mandated the quota of 30 percent of women who must be filled political parties. But the quota has not been met due to the lack of political participation of women in the struggle for power in politics. Participation is low due to gender discrimination that shaped the social and psychological environment of women itself, thus narrowing women's political opportunities. Therefore, political parties are expected to seriously encourage the participation and political education of women.

The 1905 Revolution was often considered by workers writing memoirs as the most important event in their lives. This paper examines biographical reminiscences of the political participation of working-class militants in the 1905 Revolution. I scrutinize four tropes used by working-class writers to describe their life stories narrated around their political identity. These are: (1) overcoming misery and destitution, (2) autodidacticism, (3) political initiation, and (4) feeling of belonging to the community of equals. All four demonstrate that the militant self cannot be understood in separation from the life context of the mobilized workers. Participation in party politics was an important factor modifying the life course of workers in the direction resonating with their aspirations and longings. The argument is informed by analysis of over a hundred of biographical testimonies written by militants from various political parties in different political circumstances.

This article examines the involvement of women in Politics within two different periods in Indonesia. It is common to find the number of women's political participation across some countries that are lower than men. It can be affected by some factors including social, cultural and political situation. Before Reform Era, under Soeharto governance, women as Members of Parliament (MP) in many local parliaments in some provinces in Indonesia can be counted were few. It related to the number of political parties in Indonesia that were only three at that time. After Reform Era, it is assumed that this Era gave women's politicians greater opportunities to run for office. It is also expected that the political situation in Reform Era affected their electability that can increase the number of women's political participation in parliament and then will bring good impact on women's quality life through many women MPs and their public policies toward women. This paper uses the qualitative method. In-depth interview and observation of women's politicians who become MPs during two different periods have been done with eight women's politicians. The result shows that the changing political situation positively associated with an opportunity for women's politicians to participate in many different political parties, but only have less effect on their electability, public policies and women MP as decision makers.
