Purpose – While research often elaborates on outcomes of youth remand more broadly, the specific impact that remand has on indigenous young people can be overlooked, particularly in Australia. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – This paper analyses interview data gathered from eight individual service providers from six community youth organisations in a city in Queensland, Australia. Findings – Participants reported the specific effects of remand for indigenous young people and their families, noting especially the negative impact on the young people’s emotional, social and psychological development. Originality/value – Results strongly suggest there is a blurring of the welfare and justice systems inherent within remand processes with indigenous young people, with remand employed so frequently that it has itself become a form of social support.

The following problems are discussed: influence of upbringing styles and parental attitudes on various aspects of psychological development of adolescents; contribution of relationships with parents and peers into social and personality development in adolescence; peculiarities of teenagers’ attachments to parents; child-parent conflicts. The recent studies of family education and its influence on psychological development confirm the positive role of authoritative parenting style, the negative impact of rigid parenting style on adolescent aggression and so on. It is shown that excessive parental control does not contribute to the development of self-esteem and increases self-criticism in adolescent girls. In relatively new researches devoted to "technoference" the negative impact of technical means (phone, gadgets) on interaction between parents and children is shown. The article stresses the importance of attachment to parents in adolescence; the role of the quality of attachment in formation of autonomy; capacity to solve problems and cope with difficulties associated with Internet addiction; aggression and school performance. The article also presents studies of positive and negative aspects of the impact of conflict with parents on the personality development of adolescents, gender differences in behavior during the conflict between mother and father, the contribution of marital conflicts to psychological development in adolescence.

The study explored the potential impact of emerging trends in the formal written English language of youths which hitherto is uninvestigated in South-east Nigeria. Through a random sampling process, 2000 copies of pretested and validated questionnaire written in English were administered to undergraduates at five federal universities in south-east Nigeria. In addition, print-out of a couple of group conversations on Facebook and WhatsApp and Key Person Interview (KPI) was used to supplement the questionnaire data. In all, 1940 copies of questionnaire representing 97.00% were completed and returned for analysis. Results showed that emerging trends in written English conversation as social media convention is common among students in tertiary institutions. Findings revealed that 98.87% of participants used emerging trends during classes which indicates a massive infiltration of formal written English with social media trivialities while a statistically significant 34.54% have had to use these emerging trends though unconsciously during exams which reflects their deep and deliberate learning of these most potentially contentious tools of informal written conversation. Ultimately, the study confirmed that activities on social media was taking its toll on the students’ performance in written English as they can no longer tell the appropriateness of one variety or another. In conclusion, the study established that emerging trends have profound negative impact on written English and recommends that teachers/instructors must make purposeful efforts to unteach that which has been wrongly learned by insisting that students begin to imbibe the culture of standard and formal writing regardless of the purpose of the writing.

Working outside can be harder than inside; one may be physically more active, regularly battling against the elements and often more alert – watchful for potential dangers. Overall education out of doors is physically and mentally taxing. We have to be convinced all the effort is for a good reason (Bilton, 2010, p. 12). The researchers applied the mixed method with covergent parallel design (Creswell, 2016). The results showed that 1) The initial description of prosocial behaviour of young children in Joy Kids Kindergarten, Mangasa Subdistrict, Tamalate Makassar District, showed that teachers paid attention to improve and look for activities in the form of play so that things that were worse towards prosocial behaviour of children could be avoided. 2) The traditional game-based outdoor learning module produced has been accepted from the results of an assessment of the utility, feasibility and accuracy, carried out by two experts in the field of education and an education practitioner. 3) The traditional game-based outdoor learning module that is produced affects the development of prosocial behaviour of young children. Based on the validator’s evaluation, it is declared valid to be used, its practical value is feasible to be used in the field without the need for revision, and all the devices previously presented can be declared valid for use.
