The research aims to understand the design parameters of steam ejector nozzle on the performance of flash evaporation induced by the effect of a steam jet passing through it. The research concentrates on studying the effect of ejector nozzle outlet diameter on induced flow from preheated water in a specified evaporator using a subsonic ejector. The thermal energy extracted from the condensed steam mixture in the condenser is used to heat the water in the evaporator. The experimental tests investigate the effect of nozzle geometry on the induced evaporation process by changing nozzle outlet diameter while keeping the pressure of evaporator, condenser and primary steam constant. The experimental results proved that both primary and secondary steam mass flow rates increase versus nozzle outlet diameter, while the entrainment ratio of secondary to primary steam flow rates decreases due to the restricted increase of the secondary steam mass flow rate. The mathematical model prepared to simulate the behaviour of the subsonic ejector is validated using the comparison between experimental and theoretical results. The mathematical model showed that maximum entrainment of 0.57 is obtained at a primary steam pressure of 2 bars when the nozzle outlet diameter is fixed at 1.5 mm, while minimum entrainment ratio of 0.17 is estimated at 1.5 bar pressure related to primary steam when the nozzle outlet diameter is fixed at 2.5mm. The authors recommend defining nozzle geometrical parameters according to the operating conditions of the experimental test rig to enhance ejector efficiency.

The performance of a steam ejector was simulated using FLUENT. The performance of steam ejector was studied by changing the distance between primary nozzle outlet and mixing chamber inlet (DPM) while operating pressures and other geometric parameters were not varied. The entrainment ratios of the steam ejector with different values of DPM were calculated. The optimum range of DPM was given, which is changed from 1.8 to 2 times of the throat diameter of hybrid diffuser pipe. The errors of the CFD results to the experimental results of the entrainment ratio are not more than 15%.

In the process of cooling or refrigeration, are required components where capable to flow the fluid to create a cycle of the cooling process. Among some of the vapor compression systems, the usage of ejector is the simplest system. Ejector has three main parts: primary nozzle, mixing chamber and diffuser. Various experiments of steam ejectors developed to increase the value of the COP. Entrainment ratio directly affects to the COP value generated by the system, where the geometric shapes and operating conditions in the steam ejector will affect to the value entrainment ratio. This research was carried out numerical simulations using CFD commercial software with k-epsilon to predict flow phenomena which passes through the ejector nozzle in the ejector converging-diverging which varying exit diameters 3.5 mm; 4mm; 5 mm; and 5.5 mm. Respectively the simulation results showed exit nozzle steam ejector that the smallest diameter of 3.5 mm give the optimum performance because it provide the highest speed of fluidity. While the state of vacuum in mixing chamber increase, it cause the secondary mass flow higher as well as the value of the entrainment ratio.

Ejector flow in an ejector air conditioning system using R245fa is analysed for entrainment ratio and potential refrigeration effect, at varying temperature and heat input conditions in  the generator ranging from 60C to 100C and 2kW to 5kW respectively. The effect of varying generator temperature in cooling capacity of the system when the vapour ejectoris operating at design evaporator and condenser temperatures of 10C and 35C respectively is investigated. The mathematical model of the vapour ejector with optimum area ratio is developed and validated. A critical entrainment ratio of 0.385 is obtained corresponding to generator temperature of 100C. When the generator temperature is varied from 60C to 100C, the cooling capacity range from 0.3kW at generator heat input of 2 kW to 1.78 kW at 5 kW heat input. Further, the operation of the system is analysed for off design operating condition corresponding to reduced heat input rate in the generator. In that case the state of primary refrigerant flow in ejector inlet will be two phase and a mathematical model for two-phase ejector flow is developed and validated. Ejector flow analysis revealed the minimum quality of flow at ejector inlet to maintain adequate backpressure for condensation to occur range from 0.72 at 60C to 0.22 at 100C. The corresponding refrigeration refrigeration effect produced is less than the respective designed operation value byits  12.2% to 8%. Further, analysis of the system shows that at least 7 kW heat input at 100C is required to produce 1 ton of cooling effect. The prediction of flow rates at which the vibration-induced instability takes place in tubular heat exchangers due to cross-flow is of major importance to the performance and service life of such equipment. In this paper, the semi-analytical model developed in [1] for square tube arrays was extended and utilized to study the triangular tube patterns. A laboratory test rig with instrumented test section is used to measure the fluidelastic coefficients to be used for tuning the mathematical model. The test section can be made of any bundle pattern. In this study, two test sections were constructed for both the normal triangular and the rotated triangular tube arrays. The developed scheme is utilized in predicting the onset of flow-induced instability in the two triangular tube arrays. The results are compared to those obtained for two other bundle configurations; namely the square and rotated square arrays reported in [1]. The results of the four different tube patterns are viewed in the light of TEMA predictions. The comparison demonstrated that TEMA guidelines are more conservative in all configurations considered.

We developed a mathematical model for determining the parameters of mass transfer in the compressor chambers during the processes of compression and discharge. The mass flow rates through the end and radial gaps were determined. Also we analyzed the processes of mass transfer in a clamped volume. We investigated the influence of the number of vanes on the compressor efficiency, taking into account changes in the compressor geometric parameters. We established that overflows through the end surfaces of rotor mainly affect the compressor performance. In order to reduce overflows during the period of discharge, it was proposed to increase the angle of closure of the discharge window at a fixed angle of its opening. The mathematical model allows one to make recommendations on the choice of the optimal number of vanes for a particular design.

Air gap membrane distillation experiments of different temperature and mass flow rate of working fluid were done for the use of solar power and setting up the mathematical model of AGMD’ heat and mass transfer. The calculation correctness of mathematical model was discussed and the thermal efficiency of membrane distillation system was calculated. The results showed that the experimental flux of membrane distillation reached 49kg/m2•h and the biggest relative error is less than 9% between results of experiment and mathematical model calculation. The mathematical model can be used to forecast the process parameters of membrane distillation. The highest thermal efficiency of this system is 68% and the main influencing factors of thermal efficiency are temperature and mass flow rate of working fluid.

Abstract Material throughput measurement is important for many applications, for example yield maps creation or control of mass flow in stationary lines. Quite perspective can be the capacitive throughput method. Segmented capacitance sensor (SCS) is discussed in this paper. SCS is a compromise between simple capacitive throughput sensors and electrical capacitance tomography sensors. The SCS variant with partially released inactive segments is presented. The mathematical model of SCS was created and verified by measurements. A good correspondence between measured and computed values was found and it can be stated that the proposed mathematical model was verified. During measurement the voltage values on the inactive segments were monitored as well. On the basis of the measurement there was found that these values are significantly influenced by material distribution.

In any economy there is a need for the bulky goods transportation which cannot be divided into smaller parts. Such cargoes include building structures, elements of industrial equipment, tracked or wheeled construction and agricultural machinery, heavy armored military vehicles. In any case, tractor-semitrailer should provide fast delivery of goods with minimal fuel consumption. In order to guarantee the goods delivery, tractor-semitrailers must be able to overcome the existing roads broken grade and be capable to tow a semi-trailer in off-road conditions. These properties are especially important for military equipment transportation. The important factor that determines a tractor-semitrailer mobility is its gradeability. The purpose of this work is to improve a tractor-semitrailer mobility with tractor units manufactured at PJSC “AutoKrAZ” by increasing the tractor-semitrailer gradeability. The customer requirements for a new tractor are determined by the maximizing the grade to 18°. The analysis of the characteristics of modern tractor-semitrailers for heavy haulage has shown that the highest rate of this grade is 16.7°. The factors determining the limiting gradeability value were analyzed, based on the tractor-semitrailer with a KrAZ-6510TE tractor and a semi-trailer with a full weight of 80 t. It has been developed a mathematical model to investigate the tractor and semi-trailer axles vertical reactions distribution on the tractor-semitrailer friction performances. The mathematical model has allowed to calculate the gradeability value that the tractor-semitrailer can overcome in case of wheels and road surface friction value and the tractive force magnitude from the engine. The mathematical model adequacy was confirmed by comparing the calculations results with the data of factory tests. The analysis showed that on a dry road the KrAZ-6510TE tractor with a 80 t gross weight semitrailer is capable to climb a gradient of 14,35 ° with its coupling mass full use condition. The engine's maximum torque allows the tractor-semitrailer to overcome a gradient of 10.45° It has been determined the ways to improve the design of the KrAZ-6510TE tractor to increase its gradeability. Keywords: tractor, tractor-semitrailer vehicle mobility, tractor-semitrailer vehicle gradeability.
