‘Kanthapura’ is a Gandhian saga which appears more as a ‘sthala-purana’. It is dominated by the place and not by the people. Raja Rao has not created any heores or heroines in this novel. It is not the story of the actions of any hero or god or goddess. It is the story of the actions of the entire village. The novel deals with its topography, its products, its myths and legends, its religion and society and its caste-ridden people. It describes the impact of the Gandhian freedom movement on this tiny village, its unequal fight against the forces of British imperialism and the sufferings of the people. The end of the novel sees the end of this village. There is an exodus of the survivors to Kashipura. The village rose as one man against foreign rule and was temporarily defeated. The village houses were destroyed. But the spirit that was generated was undying and ultimately resulted in complete independence of the country.

The human species is in great danger of extinction due to the novel coronavirus that was first detected in China around December 2019. By March 2021, the world had witnessed over 116million cases, of which 36,223 are Zimbabwean. The disease that the coronavirus stimulates is quite fatal and has seen 2.57million lives succumbing to it, of which 1483 are Zimbabwean, by the same date. No cure has been discovered for it yet, though scientific researchers have already discovered several vaccines with varying efficacies. Employing a socio-pragmatic approach, the chapter explores the impact of fake covid-19 social media communications on efforts to minimize infections and fatalities in Zimbabwe, an already endangered country. It accomplishes this by qualitatively analyzing purposively sampled fake communications in circulation on social media as well as some of the utterances and behaviors people make in response to them. The chapter demonstrates the negative impact of the communications on international mitigating efforts and emphasizes the need for the government, media practitioners and social workers to always be watchful for such misleading communications and in every case to quickly counter their impact by availing correct information to the people.

This research uses qualitative methods by collecting data through interviews and observations. Interviews were conducted with the village government, religious leaders, and the people of Pancasila Village, Sukoreno. The data analysis technique used an interactive model. The results showed that the 'pagebluk' paradigm is still strongly attached to rural communities in responding to the Covid-19 virus. Pagebluk is an assumption that is believed by the community in the form of "balak" or disease. This disease is believed to provide a deterrent effect to the community because they have neglected to carry out the orders and traditions in the Pancasila Village area, Sukoreno. The existence of Pagebluk causes social and cultural transformation in the local community. Various policies, regulations and agreements related to the handling of Covid-19 are relevant to changes in the socio-religious routine in society. The impact of Covid-19 is used as a strengthening of the relationships that are built in the community in dealing with Covid-19 by using the cultural basis and local wisdom of each religion and belief. The cultural-religious basis is the main aspect of carrying out social transformation by collaborating together across religions as a form of integrity in facing Covid-19. In addition, social reality confirms that the village level FKUB (Religious Forum for Religious People) can optimize the value of mutual cooperation in order to respond to the batara times that caused riots in a religious plural society. So that religious leaders have an important role in disciplining the community to carry out religious rituals in Pancasila Village, Sukoreno. social reality confirms that the village level FKUB (Religious Forum for Religious People) can optimize the value of mutual cooperation in order to respond to the batara times that caused riots in a religiously pluralistic society. Kanthapura is considered the magnum opus of Raja Rao which portrays the considerable influence of Gandhi’s ideology on the sleepy and remote village. Raja Rao is very successful in carving out the real picture of Indian village in pre-independence era. Kanthapura is the microcosm of the Indian traditional society and what happened in Kanthapura was also happened in India during 1919-1930. It is not only a political novel, but also a novel which concerns with socio-religious and economic transformation during the struggle for independence. Though his novels stray far afield, his heart is clanged to his sublime ancient Hindu tradition.  The novel can be considered Gandhi-epic. It depicts impact of Gandhi’s Ideology on the paralytic Indian masses. Gandhi’s influential personality and his ideology is felt everywhere in the novel. Indeed, Gandhi doesn’t appear in this novel personally, but the plot of the novels revolves around his ideology.  This research article, ‘Gandhi’s Ideology-Raja Rao-Moorthy in Kanthapura,’ aims at how the Gandhi’s ideology influenced Raja Rao which resulted in the creation of the character of Moorthy.  It also focuses on how Moorthy, under the influence Gandhi, tries to inspire the people towards the Freedom Struggle.  Gandhi is the way, the truth, life to Raja Rao. Similarly, Gandhi’s ideology is the way, the truth, and the life to Moorthy in the novel Kanthapura.
