Media literacy is a concept that describes a person's ability to utilize media, analyze information, and communicate it. This concept is used by researchers to see a person's ability to relate to information media. This study discusses the level of media literacy of archivists in the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). The archivist has a strategic position in information management of the university. In this respect, it needs to be reviewed related to the competence of the media literacy of archivists. In this era of information, archivists are faced with various job challenges due to the development of information technology, including the fast in disseminating information and the emergence of false or misleading information (hoaxes). This condition causes archivists not only to be required to have competence in utilizing information technology but also to be able to analyze and communicate information correctly to provide a fast, accurate, and reliable service. This competency will be reflected in the level of media literacy of archivists. This research uses the descriptive quantitative method by focusing on the aspects of a phenomenon and the reality of media literacy by archivists in  ITS. The level of media literacy can be seen from the Individual competence framework presented by the European Commission (2009). The result of the study showed that the media literacy of archivists in ITS is at a medium level, which indicated the competence is more focused on the ability of technical skill and critical understanding. While in the social competence aspect are classified as passive users.

In the process of continual change from the hand axe to the factory and now to industrial production 4.0, technology has had, and still has, two basically invariable functions: control and rationalisation. Each of these two terms is to be understood in a very comprehensive sense, in technical, engineering, commercial, legal and also social terms. This tenet also applies to television and to information technology. In my lecture, the terms “above” and “below” stand for a model of social stratification; they stand for capital and labour. The terms “outside” and “inside” stand for the external conditions of the class struggle from “above” and “below”. The external conditions mean the social and the inside conditions mean the psychological environment. Both television and information technology rely on content and organisational forms that run from above to below (from top to bottom). Moreover, contrary to Gutenberg’s invention of moving letters, today innovations in the media and IT fields no longer run from the bottom up, but only from the top down. While television conditions the individual from outside, users of social media internalise that same conditioning as a liberation from constraints.

Objective - This study aims to determine the ability of the digital media literacy of students in Jakarta, in particularly of the usage of social media. Methodology/Technique - The research used the instrument of Social Competence Framework based on European Commission (2009) to determine the level of digital media literacy of students. Findings - The results showed that the media literacy of students in Jakarta including medium level based on their social competence. Novelty - The result can be used as a foundation in creating digital media literacy education programs. The paper presents data from the research Interrelationships Communication and Education in the Context of Basic Education, which involved 3.7 thousand students and more than 500 Brazilian teachers, and addresses the theme of social acceleration of time. Developed by the Educommunication Mediations group (MECOM), which is linked to the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA / USP), the survey extended from September to December 2018. The results show that educators are subjected to stressful working hours and that the media, especially mobile devices, cross the school ecosystem. Through their smartphones, even accessed in the classroom, students rearrange and re-signify the experience and time of education.

This article explains about online media iNews.id in implementing gatekeeping function. This study aims to find out how gatekeeping efforts iNews.id in the production process on the issue of preaching restrictions on worship in mosques during Ramadan in 2020. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the current media situation, especially in the midst of a crisis, encourages the public to become heavily dependent on media coverage. With a qualitative approach, researchers analyzed five levels of influence on the gatekeeping process in online media iNews.id. The results of this study show that factors that influence the way iNews.id in the production process of preaching restrictions on worship in mosques due to the Covid-19 pandemic are the individual level of media workers, the level of media routine, the organizational level, the extramedia level, and the social system level. The conclusions of this study state the most dominant levels is the organization level and the media routine level in the iNews.id.

This study investigates the individual researcher's perceived environment as a pre-condition of entrepreneurship within the university. Our objective is to identify the micro-level antecedents that shape a university researcher's decision about whether to embark on an entrepreneurial venture. We conducted a series of both entrepreneurial and non-entrepreneurial case studies through in-depth interviews with six university researchers. The comparative case data generated inclusive descriptions of the social conditions surrounding the researchers and their individual characteristics as criteria for explaining their decisions on whether to become entrepreneurs. Our findings add to the macro-perspectives typically discussed, and advance knowledge of the entrepreneurial university by incorporating the individual's perceived environment as a micro-level condition for academic entrepreneurship. Drawing on the context of Thailand's emerging economy, in which social inequality exists alongside growth, our findings shed light on the university researcher's entrepreneurial role as a leader for social change through the commercialisation of science and technology research.

Aims The objective of the study was to explore perceptions of different addictions among Swedish addiction care personnel. Data A survey was conducted with 655 addiction care professionals in the social services, health care and criminal care in Stockholm County. Respondents were asked to rate the severity of nine addictions as societal problems, the individual risk to getting addicted, the possibilities for self-change and the perceived significance of professional treatment in finding a solution. Results The images of addiction proved to vary greatly according to its object. At one end of the spectrum were addictions to hard drugs, which were judged to be very dangerous to society, highly addictive and very hard to quit. At the other end of the spectrum were smoking and snuff use, which were seen more as bad habits than real addictions. Some consistent differences were detected between respondents from different parts of the treatment system. The most obvious was a somewhat greater belief in self-change among social services personnel, a greater overall change pessimism among professionals in the criminal care system and a somewhat higher risk perception and stronger emphasis on the necessity of treatment among medical staff. Conclusion Professionals' views in this area largely coincide with the official governing images displayed in the media, and with lay peoples' convictions.

The research «Cinema, Diversity and Networks» tries to isolate the principal stimuli or reticences in the consumption of products generated by small cinematographies, analyzing the particular case of the diffusion through the digital interactive networks of cinematographic contents produced in Galicia. It is a multicentral investigation with the collaboration of the universities of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay – the countries with a significant migratory Galician presence, with special focus on the university groups of reception for their special predisposition to the media intercultural consumption. Our work addresses a statistical determination of the social-demographic and axiologic profile as well as the habits of consumption of the participant groups as an introduction to the confrontation with some representative films produced in Galicia between 2003 and 2008 in order to establish the influence of certain thematic, formal and linguistic variables in the acceptance or objection to certain messages. The study can be identified with the models of basic and applied investigation: basic, for its analysis of the cultural determinant indicators of the cinematographic consumption in communities, which although geographically dispersed preserve their identity elements such as the language; and applied, as our investigation provides a transfer of knowledge to their technological partners in addition to the opening of unexplored niches of transnational consumption through the potential that the digital networks offer nowadays.La investigación «Cine, Diversidad y Redes» pretende aislar los principales estímulos o reticencias en el consumo de productos generados por pequeñas cinematografías, analizando el caso concreto de la circulación a través de las redes digitales interactivas de contenidos cinematográficos producidos en Galicia. Se trata de una investigación multicéntrica en la que participan universidades radicadas en Argentina, Brasil y Uruguay –países con una significativa presencia migratoria gallega–, a través de grupos de recepción principalmente universitarios, por su especial predisposición al consumo mediático intercultural. Nuestro trabajo aborda una determinación estadística del perfil sociodemográfico, axiológico y de hábitos de consumo de los grupos participantes, como proemio a su encuentro con una muestra representativa, integrada por obras cinematográficas producidas en Galicia entre 2003 y 2008, a los efectos de precisar la influencia de determinadas variables temáticas, formales y lingüísticas en la aceptación o recusación de determinados mensajes. La investigación responde, en suma, a los modelos de investigación básica y aplicada: básica, por su análisis de indicadores culturales determinantes del consumo cinematográfico en comunidades que, aunque geográficamente dispersas, preservan elementos identitarios como la lengua; y aplicada, en la medida en que la investigación contempla una transferencia de conocimiento a sus socios tecnológicos, coadyuvante de la apertura de nichos inexplorados de consumo transnacional, a través del potencial que actualmente brindan las redes digitales.

This article seeks to question the emphasis on critical reading in media education curricula, both in terms of the assumptions about children's existing knowledge which it entails and in terms of its implications for classroom practice. The first part of the article draws on recent research on children's understanding of television, and considers the social functions of critical discourses about the medium. Summarising findings from the author's research, it points to the inter-relationships between cognitive, affective and social factors in children's talk. The second part of the article draws on recent classroom research in the field to consider the processes by which children acquire critical discourses about the media, and the limitations of a purely analytical approach. The article concludes by arguing for the need to develop a more complex theoretical basis for media education pedagogy, based on the interaction between critical analysis and other teaching strategies.

The scientific article contains a survey on digital media literacy of Universitas Airlangga students which was conducted with the aim of knowing the understanding of students from all universities in Indonesia regarding digital media, and to find out how high the individual level of competence of students in Indonesia is in digital media literacy, as well as to find out the factors what influences the level of competent individuals regarding digital media literacy. This research was conducted using a descriptive survey method and using descriptive statistical data analysis techniques to analyze the research data. The results of the study revealed that: 1). The understanding of students in Indonesia regarding digital literacy is in the medium category, 2). The competent individual level of Indonesian students in digital media literacy is at the basic level, 3). The factors that influence the level of competent individuals related to digital media literacy are mainly family environmental factors.

Abstract: In an increasingly saturated information and infoxicated world, Media Literacy emerges as a necessity for effective filtering of the vast amount of information we consume. The present research aims to quantitatively analyze the level of media competencies of Colombian(Medellin) and Ecuadorian (Loja and Zamora) teachers by means of the application of an adaptation of the taxonomy from the media competencies model, which consists of 6 dimensions and a total of 12 indicators. The total analyzed sample was comprised of 654 teachers from 81 public and private institutions. A data-gathering instrument was used with the aim of determining their level of media competencies from each of the dimensions. The results showed a low to medium level of media competency knowledge, which illustrated the need for priority interventions based on local, regional and international works, namely those that mobilize scientific, academic and political collaboration to improve the performance of a population that should lead the general training of citizens in media competencies.
