This study aims to reveal rebellion of main character in Lauren DeStefano’s Wither. The discussion is focused on Rhine’s rebellion which is trigerred by dystopian-life happened in the society. In revealing the rebellion reflected in the novel, Mercuse’s theory of rebellion and Millner’s theory of dystopian-life are applied. The research method applied in this study is descriptive qualitative with intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. Based on the analysis, the writer finds out that among the nine dystopian society characteristics, the writer has found five characteristics that are reflected in Wither, namely the society is an illusion of utopia world; the natural world is being a banished and distrusted world; perception under constant surveillance; fear ot the outside world; and information, independent thought, and freedom are restricted. In addition, the analysis of the main character’s rebellion shows that the rebellion happens as the impact of dystopian society faced by the main character. Rhine’s rebellion is done in four ways – having intention to escape from Linden’s house, refusing to be consummated by her husband, having relationship with Gabriel, and escaping. The reasons of Rhine’s rebellion are wanting to be reunited with her brother and wanting to have freedom. After doing the analysis, the writer finds out that science and technology should be developed for human’s better condition. Science and technology must not be expected beyond God’s power. When science and technology is developed without consideration in terms of humanity, it will result in chaosness.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan: (1) mendeskripsikan insting perilaku purposif tokoh dalam konteks keputusan menjadi seorang caleg, (2) mendeskripsikan dampak insting perilaku purposif tokoh terhadap diri tokoh mengambil keputusan novel Namaku Subardjo karya Hapsari Hanggarini. Metode yang digunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Teori yang digunakan penelitian ini teori psikologi sastra insting purposif McDougall. Sumber data secara eksplisit berupa dokumen, yaitu novel Namaku Subardjo karya Hapsari Hanggarini terbitan tahun 2015. Data penelitian berupa kalimat atau dialog, satuan cerita yang mengarah pada insting perilaku purposif yang dilakukan tokoh. Pemerolehan data menggunakan teknik membaca dan mencatat informasi terkait insting kutipan novel. Hasil penelitian dalam novel Namaku Subardj menunjukkan:  (1) bentuk perilaku insting purposif tokoh utama berupa insting menyelamatkan diri, insting penasaran, insting berkontruksi, insting penuntutan, dan insting tertawa dan (2) dampak perilaku dalam pengambilan keputusan, yakni insting perubahan perilaku purposif tokoh dengan lebih meningkatkan kualitas diri melalui literasi untuk menjadi caleg. Kata Kunci: insting, perilaku, psikologi, purposif   AbstractThe research aims to (1) describe the character’s purposive behavior instincts in the context of the decision to become a legislative candidate, (2) describe the impact of the character’s purposive behavior instincts in the novel Namaku Subardjo by Hapsari Hanggarini. The method used descriptive qualitative. The theory used research is McDougall’s purposive instinct pschology theory. The data source is explicity, the novel Namaku Subardjo by Hapsari Hanggarini published in 2015. The data of this research is in the form of sentence or dialogue, a story unit that leads to the character’s. The results of the research can be understood Namaku Subarjo’s Novel, (1) The form of purposive instinct behavior in the main character is the instict to save oneself, The curios instinct, the construct instict, the instict for prosecution and the laugh instinct, and (2) The impact of behavior in decision making is the instinct for purposive behavior. Hedonism is a view of life in philosophy that seeks to avoid pain and make pleasure as the main goal in life. People who embrace hedonism tend to over-pursue pleasure. The hedonism lifestyle is mostly carried out by 18th century people especially the nobles who live in high culture. They are as close to hedonism as they are in the Persuasion novel by Jane Austen. Sir Walter Elliot the main character is a nobleman who did a lot of hedonism. Hedonism which is seen as too glorifying personal pleasure to ignore others. The purpose of this study was to find out the types of hedonism done by Sir Walter Elliot in Persuasion. This research uses descriptive qualitative method because all data are in the form of sentences. The researcher uses a philosophical approach and analyzes data using Weijers' theory as the main theory. The results of this study found that Sir Walter Elliot performed two types of hedonism, namely aesthetic hedonism and selfish hedonism.

Character education is a form of cultivation of noble character in students. The aspect of 'social care' character is one of the most important of the eighteen character education in Indonesia, this is because the sense of sensitivity and help towards others in the environment around students begins to diminish. There are various kinds of media to succeed in internalizing character education, one of which is a novel. The novel Merindu Baginda Nabi by Habiburrahman El-Shirazy can be said to be a complete novel in instilling character in Indonesia. Therefore, researchers will explore how the value of social care character education in the novel Merindu Baginda Nabi. The research method used is qualitative descriptive qualitative research. The novel Merindu Baginda Nabi as a source of data in this study, in the form of dialogue and narrative stories about character education about social care. Based on the results of the analysis, seventeen data were found that were divided into four important parts, namely: giving help to others, caring for others, mutual respect, and sympathy.

This paper aims to describe the female characters in the novel Kabar Bunga by Marsiraji Thahir, the conflicts and its causes, and the impact of the conflicts experienced by women in the novel Kabar Bunga by Marsiraji Thahir. This novel is examined by a psychological approach in literature, a literary approach that emphasizes the psychological aspects of the types and laws of psychology that can be applied to literary works. The data is qualitative since the purpose of this research is to explain or describe the phenomena of the researches deeply. The data were obtained by categorizing all the related dialogues in the story, then psychologically analyzed. Triangulation was used to validate the data.  After finishing all the steps of analyzing data, the interpretations were made based on the data and the theory. The results of the research were, psychologically, the main character in this novel is described as a person who often feels worried, frightened, keeping the reality up, and she is burdened by the problems faced. This portrayal is the representation of Wulan as a woman and woman emotionally and mentally is depicted as a weakness persona without having the ability to solve the problems.

Abstract: The presence of Jenderal Ahmad Yani Semarang International Airport, caused many tourists to come to Semarang, and the impact of one of them was on Anjasmoro Raya corridor whose activities were growing.  This phenomenon can be found with the presence of shops as formal sector activities and the development of pedagang kaki lima activities as a sector informal.  This informal activity uses the shoulder space of the road which should fuction to support the transportation activities in the corridor, but is used as a place of sale by pedagang kaki lima, so there is a strength of property that supports the activities of pedagang kaki lima.  This study aims to find the relationship between the setting of the Anjasmoro Raya corridor and pedagang kaki lima activity through the strength of property in the Anjasmoro Raya corridor.  The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques in the form of place centered mapping.  The result showed that there was a relationship between the setting of the Anjasmoro Raya corridor and the activities of street vendors.Keyword: Settings, Pedagang Kaki Lima Activities, Anjasmoro Raya CorridorAbstrak: Kehadiran Bandar Udara International Jenderal Ahmad Yani Semarang membuat banyaknya wisatawan yang datang ke kota semarang, dan dampak salah satunya pada koridor Anjasmoro Raya yang semakin berkembang aktivitasnya, dimana gejala ini dapat dijumpai dengan hadirnya pertokoan sebagai aktivitas sector formal dan berkembangnya aktivitas pedagang kaki lima sebagai sektor informal.  Aktivitas informal ini menggunakan ruang bahu jalan yang seharusnya berfungsi untuk mendukung aktivitas transportasi yang ada di koridor, namun dimanfaatkan sebagai tempat jualan oleh pedagang kaki lima, sehingga terdapat kekuatan property yang mendukung aktifitas pedagang kaki lima.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari hubungan seting koridor Anjasmoro Raya dnegan pola aktivitas pedagang kaki lima, melalui kekuatan properti yang ada di koridor Anjasmoro Raya.  Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif, dengan teknik analisa data berupa place centered mapping.  Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat hubungan seting koridor Anjasmoro Raya dengan aktivitas pedagang kaki lima.Kata Kunci: Seting, Aktivitas Pedagang Kaki Lima, Koridor Anjasmoro Raya

The objectives of this study are to reveal the causes and negative impacts of overprotective mother’s attitude towards her child in the best-selling novel entitled My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult, and to see how overprotective Sara Fitzgerald as a mother who has an overprotective attitude towards her second child. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with library study to find out the overprotective mother and how the overprotective developed by applying internal and external overprotective theory and mother's theory. The primary data used is the novel itself. Secondary data are books and articles relating to conflict theory. The results showed that there was a major problem that caused by Sara Fitzgerald as an overprotective mother and the impact of her overprotective attitude towards her daughter. There are two causes that Sara becomes an overprotective mother to her second daughter: her illness and her recovery and the impact towards her third daughter  is lacking affection and suffering.

Abstract  This ressearch has title” The Impact of  The Fourth Main Characters’  Life Problem Toward Their Characteristic In The Novel  Auto By Natsuo Kirino”. The objects ressearch is novel Auto by Natsuo Kirino that was published in 1997. This ressearch has aim to get the description of characteristic structure of the four main characters that includes id, ego, and superego, and also about what are the effects of life problem toward their characteristics. The theoritical approach that is used in this ressearch is to answer those both problems and  uses Sigmund Freud’s Psychoanalisist.From the characteristics ressearch result of the four main characters, they are Masako, Yayoi, Yoshie, and Kuniko,  it is proved that their characteristics are more dominated by id impuls than ego impuls or superego. This is because work characteristic of  id is pleasure principle to reduce tension or problem.The impact of life problem toward the characteristic of four main characters is descibed below.  Masako has problem when she is never respected in her workplace. Difficult communication with her husband and her  household that is not harmonious and her relationship with her children is not getting well. Those problems effect she does main action to reduce her tension in her life. She also helps her friend, Yayoi by throwing away Yayoi’s husband corpse that had been mutilated. Yayoi has problem with her husband who never respects her and her household that is not harmonious. Solution that is done by Yayoi because of  household problem is by doing main action by killing her husband. Another character, Yoshie has a problem  where she must nurse her mother in law who always  grumble and gets angry to her when she come late. She must also work in the night to earn money to fulfill her  needs. Those facts cause fury  to Yoshie, so that she wants to kill her mother in law. Yoshie wants to leave out all her burdens and tensions by helps Masako to throw away Kenji’s corpse (Yayoi’s husband). Another character,  Kuniko has problem about she feel that she has no face beauty and perfect body shape, so that she lives in luxurious way and has many debts to the creditors to cover her lack. The author analyzed the pattern of presenting descriptions in the novel "Surat Kecil untukTuhan" by Agnes Davonar. The purpose of this study is to describe the pattern of presentation of static descriptions, patterns of presentation of moving descriptions, patterns of presentation of outline descriptions, and describing the results of studies on the pattern of presentation of descriptions in the novel "Surat Kecil untuk Tuhan" by Agnes Davonar can be used as a teaching  material  Indonesian  for  class  XII  learners  based  on  the  2013 Curriculum. The research method use is descriptive qualitative method. Therefore, the data obtained in this study are not in the form of numbers, but in the form of descriptions or narratives. The results showed that in the novel "Surat Kecil untuk Tuhan" by Agnes Davonar, there were 9 patterns of description presentation including, 5 static patterns, 3 moving patterns, and 1 skeleton pattern. The results also showed that based on the results of the analysis of the suitability of study materials with the demands of the curriculum, the novel “Surat Kecil untuk Tuhan” can the results of the study have been validated by experts and declared worthy of use as teaching materials.

The research was focused on racial discrimination faced by the major characters and their resistances in 12 Years A Slave novel. This study was aimed This study was aimed to investigate the racial disrimination and the resistances in the novel. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative method. The source of data was taken from 12 Years A Slave novel. The data are collected by using documentary techniques. Instrument for collecting the data is using documentary sheet. The results of this research were the racial discrimination and resistances happened in 12 Years A Slave. The racial discrimination in this novel happened towards the Black People and all discriminated people do the resistances to make their life better. As Northup is the main character so he got the most discrimination, then in the second position is Patsey and the last is Eliza Berry. Meanwhile the resistances done the most by Northup until he finally got freedom, and Patsey also did it twice and Eliza Berry did it three times. It can be concluded that the three major character who are slaves got discriminated and they did the resistances to save their life, even its only Northup who got the freedom in the end.

This research is to know the values of religious character in the novel Mahamimpi Anak Negeri by Suyatna Pamungkas to build the character of high school students. The goal of this research is the formation of the religious character of high school students through the novel in the novel Mahamimpi Anak Negeri by Suyatna Pamungkas. This research method is descriptive qualitative. The technique of writing this data using content analysis. The results of this study First, the results of the discourse analysis found that describes the education of religious characters in the novel Mahamimmpi Anak Negeri Suyatna Pamungkas. Both discussions about the religious character of high school students through interviews with teachers.
