Background: Nursing profession is stereotyped worldwide.  In Nepal, the enrollment of males in nursing education was initiated in 1986 AD with allocation of 10% seats, which stopped after enrollment of four batches only. Nepal Nursing council has announced 15% allocation of nursing seats to male students from academic year 2018/19 AD but only a few number of males have been enrolled.  Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the knowledge and attitude towards the nursing profession among male secondary level students.  Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted by employing multi-stage sampling technique in June, 2019. Random list of secondary schools of Kathmandu district was created followed by proportionate stratified random sampling among 80% of male students studying in grades nine and ten from initial ten schools from the randomized list. The sample size was 388. A self-structured questionnaire was administered. Data was analyzed in SPSS version 20 by using frequency, percentage, mean, chi-square test and pearson’s correlation coefficient.  Results: Out of 388 respondents, only 55.4% had adequate knowledge and only 53.4% had a more positive attitude towards the nursing profession. Significant association was found between knowledge towards the nursing profession with two of the socio-demographic variables grade of student and respondent’s family, friends and relatives in the nursing profession. Conclusion: The study showed inadequate knowledge and less positive attitude towards the nursing profession. Educational programs regarding different aspects of nursing profession should be planned timely by professional nursing organizations, nursing colleges and secondary schools of Nepal which would create a positive impact in enrollment of male nursing students in coming academic years.

Research findings in secondary schools have consistently indicated that geometry is one of the most difficult areas of Mathematics at basic level and students’ attitude towards it has been a factor that is known to influence students’ achievement in mathematics. The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of students’ attitude towards geometry and to find out whether gender difference influences such attitude. Some selected secondary schools in Zamfara state were used for the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey design using a questionnaire tagged Geometric Attitude Questionnaire. The population of the study consisted of SS I students in Zamfara state. A sample of 157students was drawn using simple random sampling technique. Descriptive statistics of means and standard deviations were used to answer the research questions while Inferential Statistics of the Mann-Whitney test was used to test the formulated hypothesis. The study revealed that students’ attitude towards geometry was relatively high generally, with male students having much higher positive attitude to geometry than their female counterparts and that difference between them was not statistically significant at α = 0.05 level of significance. It is recommended that teachers should be resourceful in encouraging and helping students in order to build positive attitude by trying to relate geometry to real life situations and also be gender sensitive.

While assessing mathematics performance, attitude towards mathematics and Mathematics learning are frequently cited as factors contributing to success. The present study has been conducted to investigate students’ attitude towards learning mathematics in the higher secondary schools of Assam, India. It is sought to understand the influence of Gender and School Environment (Government and Private) in the study of the subject Mathematics. ATMS (Attitude Towards Mathematics Scale), developed by Dr. S. C. Gakhar, and Dr. Rajni was used to find out the attitude of students towards learning mathematics and their achievement in mathematics both in terms of gender as well as school management pattern. Out of a population of 340 students studying at the higher secondary (10+1) level in the Balijana Block of Goalpara District, a sample of 102 students (56 boys and 46 girls) were selected through Stratified Random sampling technique. One Provincialized, one Government and two Private schools were selected based on purposive sampling technique. The achievement of the students in Mathematics at higher secondary level depends on the gender of the students. The study revealed that achievement level of the male students in Mathematics at higher secondary level is more than that of their female counterparts. The achievement of the students in Mathematics at higher secondary level depends on the school environment. The achievement level of the students in private schools is better than the Government schools. The male students show more positive attitude towards learning Mathematics than the female students. Among the eight components, in few components students of Government schools show more positive attitude than Private schools. Whereas, in some components students of Private schools show more positive attitude than students of Government schools. Therefore, attitudes towards mathematics can be developed through encouraging students and motivating them for learning through constructivism and innovations. Teachers, school environment and home environment should be conducive and shouldn’t hamper students’ mathematical performance throughout their schooling

Introduction: Nepal Nursing Council issued a notice regarding the inclusion of men in nursing in June 2018. Even with this mandate, only a handful of male students claimed the reservation for nursing education. This study aimed to determine the intention of pursuing nursing as a career and its associated factors among male students in the schools of Banepa Municipality, Kavre, Nepal. Method: A quantitative analytical cross-sectional research design was adopted and data was collected via convenience sampling technique. A semi-structured questionnaire was administered among male students of grade 10 of the selected schools. Result: Among 190 respondents, only 11.8% had an intention to pursue the nursing profession as a career. Global opportunities, challenging careers, and reasonable pay were apparent factors that influenced students. However, lack of social support, lack of role model, disrespect, and unpleasant work environment was the major inhibiting factors. Furthermore, the intention to pursue nursing as a career was significantly common among the male students who were acquainted with a nurse and had exposure to nursing care. Conclusion: The majority of the participants had a positive perception of nursing but did not prefer to pursue nursing as a career due to lack of social support, lack of role models, disrespect, and an unpleasant work environment.

Vaccination demand and acceptance depends on several factors that are quite broad and complex. The knowledge and attitude of a mother to childhood immunization play a key role in immunization coverage.  Low immunization coverage in Nigeria is mostly attributed to poor knowledge, compliance, accessibility and inappropriate attitude among other factors. Poor compliance with full immunization is believed to be the most significant reason for low immunization coverage in the country due to socio-cultural obstacles to the acceptance of immunization. Aim: This study aims to assess the factors that determine the attitude of mothers towards immunization. Methodology: A hundred (100) mothers were recruited into this cross-sectional descriptive study using a simple random sampling technique. Data collection was performed by using a structured questionnaire. This study was carried out in Ukpenu community in Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria. This study was carried out in the Ukpenu community in Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria. 100 mothers were recruited into the study using a simple random sampling technique. Result: The results showed that the respondents have a positive attitude towards immunization. This was evident in the immunization report. Their record revealed that most of their children were fully immunized. This is seen in their readiness to fully immunize their children against childhood vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs), their willingness to recommend full immunization of children to their friends, relatives and other women, and their readiness to purchase the vaccines if they are no longer available free of charge to ensure that their children are fully immunized. It was discovered that educational status plays a contributory role in the knowledge and attitude of mothers towards immunization. Conclusion: Maternal health education should be sustained to ensure continuous compliance and a positive attitude of mothers towards immunization.

Background: Epilepsy is one of the world’s oldest known brain disorders among several medical conditions. A recent study has indicated that 70 million people are estimated to suffer from this disease. Despite the increase education and health care, some health professionals continue to linger in darkness about cause and treatment options of the disease.Purpose. The main objective of this study was to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding epilepsy among nurses within the Asutifi North District with the aim of understanding their subjective experiences and knowledge on epilepsy in a socio-cultural context and how their attitude shaped their practice towards people with epilepsy.Methodology. The study employed an exploratory descriptive cross-sectional design with 102 participants using a standard statistical formula. Data was collected using a paper based semi-structured self-administered questionnaire and analysis was by STATA version 12.Results. Findings showed that 67.7% (69/102) of the nurses were aware of the causes of epilepsy whereas 59.8% have low level of knowledge on the disease. Results indicated that 82.4% of the nurses suspect PWE have mental illness, 70.6% of the nurses had positive attitude towards epilepsy. The socio-demographic characteristics of religion (Muslim) (p=0.017), area of speciality (RMN) (p=0.045) as well as close family relationship with epilepsy (p=0.001) were significantly associated with knowledge on epilepsy. Factors that were found to influence attitude towards epilepsy were sex (Female) (p=0.037) and religion (Muslim) (p=0.012). However, specialty area (RMN) (p=0.054) did not statistically impact on the study. Nurses at the Asutifi North District therefore tended to have low knowledge and positive attitude on epilepsy. It is important to improve training and health care delivery for epilepsy.Recommendation. The Ghana Health Service in collaboration with the Ministry of Health should run intermediary workshops, at least every six months, to train nurses in epilepsy diagnoses to reduce the treatment gap. The health directorate should raise awareness and educate the communities on epilepsy to reduce stigma. Enhancing nursing education and training on epilepsy by the Ministry of Health and its agencies is imperative to improving health care delivery for people living with the disease

Abstract Background: Cesarean section is an effective technique for preventing maternal and perinatal mortality when performed properly. Evidence suggested that pregnant women who have had good knowledge about their condition are able to participate in shared decision-making and can alleviate fears related to anesthesia. However, only a few studies conducted in Ethiopia assess the level of knowledge and attitude of pregnant women towards anesthesia for cesarean section. Methods: Hospital based cross-sectional study was conducted from April 18 to June 25, 2021. A systematic random sampling technique was used to select a total of 362 pregnant women attending antenatal care. Pretested and structured questionnaires were used to collect the data using a face-to-face interview. Both bivariate and multivariable binary logistic regression models were used for statistical analysis. The adjusted odds ratio was used as the measure of association. P-value less than 0.05 at 95% CI was considered as statistically significant. Results: A total of 354 pregnant women attending at ANC clinic participated with a response rate of 97.8%. The overall proportion of good knowledge and positive attitude towards anesthesia for cesarean section were 56.5% (95% CI: 51.4%, 61.9%) and 50.8% (95% CI: 45.8%, 56.2%), respectively. Pregnant women who had previous operations (AOR=4.47, 95% CI: 1.77, 11.32) and had any health information about anesthesia (AOR=10.06, 95% CI: 5.41, 18.69) were significantly associated with good knowledge towards anesthesia for cesarean section. While, pregnant women who have had secondary education (AOR=6.71, 95% CI: 1.19, 37.99), college and above education (AOR=13.63, 95% CI: 2.26, 82.21), and had health information about anesthesia (AOR=2.02, 95% CI: 1.09, 3.77) significantly associated with a positive attitude towards anesthesia for CS.Conclusion: This finding means that a significant number of pregnant women still have poor knowledge and attitude towards anesthesia for CS. Previous operation and health information about anesthesia were significantly associated with knowledge while higher education and health information about anesthesia were significantly associated with a positive attitude towards anesthesia for cesarean section. Health professionals need to provide health information during ANC visits and in the operating theater areas for mothers who have indications for CS.
