Blended learning that combines face-to-face and online educational delivery can occur at activity, course, program, and institution level. In this study, course-level blending in Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) course was examined. The students of face-to-face mode were enrolled in Moodle. However, their participation in Moodle was optional (i.e. low level of blending). Data collected from a class test and end-of-semester questionnaire survey suggest that blending does have a positive effect on learning achievement and students do perceive blending positively. Overall, the study shows optimism towards the prospects of blended learning. However, for the successful integration of Moodle, easy access to the Internet and orientation for using Moodle are to be ensured.Journal of NELTA ,  Vol. 22, No. 1-2, 2017 December, page: 54-67

ABSTRACT Purpose: The general objective is to critically analyze the ideologies and constructions of management ideology in the Internet blog called Geração de Valor (Generation of Value), behind the discourse of success. Originality/value: The pop-management phenomenon has been widespread in the Brazilian context. It leads individuals to look for formulas of excel and achieve success as entrepreneurs. One of the disseminators of this ideology has been Geração de Valor. This article innovates when dealing with thematic without prima donna behaviors or fanciful romanticism. Design/methodology/approach: This article aims to analyze texts available on Geração de Valor through critical discourse analysis (CDA). Findings: We conclude that the voice of the businessman and blogger Flávio Augusto da Silva is nothing more than one of several voices, including in administration, that seek to defend the cult of personal victory and disdain for the collectivist practices of social organization. This kind of analysis is still scarce in this field of study, as they require enriched readings of the text in terms of context and intertextuality. Critical analyses contradict hegemonic visions and sharpen the reader's critical sense. Also, they are useful in highlighting the cult following that Administration has been receiving by the media.

The results of this study revealed five kinds of stereotyped language about women which are women’s personality traits, women’s cooking domestics behaviour, women’s physical appearances, women’s teaching occupation and women’s driving motorcycle behaviour which considered as new kind of stereotype about women. It is also revealed that the process of realization of stereotyped language about women is by seeing the context of the features used by the creator of the internet memes. The reasons of using stereotyped language about women as humour can be seen as critics and warning attemptions by the creator of the internet memes.Key words: Stereotyped Language about Women, internet memes, Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis

Adolescents all over the world have communicated with one another through the Internet by means of personal sites called Blogs, in which they say what they think and feel about life, and interact electronically with people from different places. This is a new mode of literacy which is leading adolescents to writing spontaneously about diverse topics. They use multimodal texts in which they integrate different types of semiosis. In this paper, we will examine the language of this new genre according to critical discourse analysis (Fairclough, 1992), genre analysis (Bakhtin, 1992) and systemic functional linguistics (Halliday, 1985).

A Critical Discourse Analysis of Employee Involvement in Both Word and Deed Discourse analysis deals with the use of language as social practice. The focus of analysis is on text, discursive practice as well as social practice. Its purpose is to show how social and cultural change takes place. Critical discourse analysis sees aspects of social practice as discur¬sive, that is, a practice in which written and oral manifestations are produced and interpreted. These texts are both constituted by and constituent for social practice. This dialectical approach ma¬kes discourse analysis particularly use¬ful for apprehending social changes. While this approach can help reach an understanding of the main discourse be¬hind the text itself, there are problems with the theoretical analysis of how dis¬course construes subjectivity and the meaning of body language for the dis¬course. A discourse analytical review of orga-nization literature on employee involve¬ment and face to face communication re¬veals that employees are seen in the ab¬stract, they are objectivized, and are seen as harmony seeking, rational individuals without histories or biographies. To exemplify discourse analysis in face to face communication with employees, a videotaped conversation between a fac¬tory director and one of the production leaders is analyzed and reveals the domi¬¬nant discourse that characterizes the con¬versation and how the factory director places the problem on the production leader. Discourse analysis can provide a critical theoretical insight into employee involvement by for instance revealing the paradox that by making the employees into objects, they are supposed to become independent, responsible subjects. Hen¬ce it can be useful in contributing to un¬derstanding employee involvement.

The aim of this article is twofold: first, to demonstrate how the use of experimental methods challenges the implicit assumption of progressive discourse analysts that ‘inspiring’ messages will have a positive effect on political attitudes and trust regardless of the recipients’ early political dispositions, and second, to examine the power of conciliatory message design to change political attitudes in favor of a peaceful solution to intractable conflicts such as the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. By employing the conceptual frameworks of progressive discourse analysis and experimental critical discourse analysis, we examined the most comprehensive hypothesis formulated thus far in the literature of conflict resolution with regard to the conditions under which conciliatory messages become successful. We found that the exposure of hawkish participants to highly conciliatory messages decreases both their support for compromise-based peace and their trust in the opponent’s leader, which underlines the need for more caution on the side of peace discourse scholars when assuming that conciliatory language has the power to bring about a (positive) political change. We conclude by discussing the implications of our findings for critical/progressive discourse analysts, conflict resolution scholars and professionals involved in conciliatory message design.

BACKGROUND: The Internet has emerged as a major expediter of the commercial sex (CS) industry. While use of web-based CS industry sites is brisk, the full extent of their impact remains unclear particularly how they influence users’ views of the CS industry. OBJECTIVE: This research study sought to uncover the nuances of buyers’ interactions on an online CS website. DESIGN: Six hundred sixty-six online posts from 363 unique members were collected and analyzed using critical discourse analysis. RESULTS: Via the use of language and dialogue, particular ways of thinking about and talking about buying sex are normalized and reinforced. Evident within these discursive patterns are mechanisms by which assumptions are forwarded, perceptions shaped, and authority established. CONCLUSIONS: Information about how CS industry websites establish beliefs, relationships, and practices among its users may increase understanding of how the CS industry seeks to gain acceptance in the American culture and normalize its activities.

AbstractThis paper investigates the discourse of LifeChurch.tv, an American evangelical megachurch – headed by the influential pastor Craig Groeschel – whose sermons are accessed by thousands of followers on the Internet. The study is based on the transcripts of a five-year period of online preaching (177 sermons). The goal was to apply the framework of critical discourse analysis (CDA) to digital sermons, particularly focusing on examining the elements of personalization in this relatively new form of “net” evangelism. Groeschel’s “hyper-personalized” style of preaching, we argue, utilizes strategies intended to lessen any perceived barriers between the speaker and his virtual congregation. The study discusses the implications for the commodification and mediatization of religion in the digital age.

The aim of the qualitative research carried out on the basis of critical discourse analysis is to check the ways of presenting the problems of immigrants from Eastern Europe (mainly Ukrainians and Belarusians) in the opinion-forming Polish press during the pandemic. Attention was paid to the issues of work, stay and its legalization, health and discrimination. 36 articles were analyzed in the period March–October 2020, which appeared in the Internet editions of „Polityka”, „Gazeta Wyborcza”, „Rzeczpospolita”, „Krytyka Polityczna”, as well as the Biznes Interia.pl and eGospodarka.pl portals. The type of problems of immigrants, agency of immigrants, relations between immigrants and the host society were taken into account. The obtained results were compared with the previous images of immigrants in the Polish press discourse before the pandemic in order to answer the question: does the pandemic deepen the stereotypical image of immigrants from Eastern Europe
