This study inspects the job satisfaction level of academic staff at Rajshahi University, Bangladesh. Important factors that have an impact on job satisfaction levels are work itself, pay, promotion opportunities, supervision, and relationship with co-workers. A sample of 120 teachers is selected by convenient sampling from the nine faculties at Rajshahi University. With the support of SPSS, factor analysis, Co-relation, and regression tests are conducted to generate results. Through the statistical analysis, it is found that teachers are more satisfied with work itself, relationship with co-workers, and they are less satisfied with the pay structure, promotion opportunities, and supervision. Thus findings recommend that boosting the work facilities and ensuring the smooth and cooperative relationship with co-workers could be helpful tools in motivating faculty members and subsequently get attached with their work.

Psychological aspects of motivation and job satisfaction are integral parts of the effective and productive operations of any organization. In the context of higher education,it is one of the spheres, where satisfaction of faculty members, as well as appropriate motivational environment, has the paramount value for the effectiveness of a higher education institution and the quality of educational services. This research aims to explore the psychological aspects of motivation and job satisfaction of faculty members of one state university in Kazakhstan. Questionnaires concerning the job satisfaction level and motivation were distributed among 232 faculty members of one state university in Kazakhstan. The research findings show that the vast majority of participants have a relatively high level of job satisfaction, despite the existence of factors that negatively influence on the job satisfaction level, such as inappropriate work schedule, salary issues, and dealings with administration. At the same time, it becomes evident that favorable social and psychological climate, as well as relationships with colleagues can be considered as the most important components of psychological aspects of faculty members’ motivation. This paper investigates the relationship between the union commitment of faculty members and a number of factors, including job satisfaction, general union beliefs, attitude towards the university, work aspects and demographic characteristics. The results show that faculty members are committed to both the university and the Association. Dissatisfaction with the university administration fosters union commitment whereas negative attitudes towards unions in general reduce that commitment. Demographic characteristics and work aspects have little influence on the faculty commitment to the Faculty Association.

The Leader in Medicine (LIM) Program of the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, hosted its 7th Annual LIM Research Symposium on October 30, 2015 and participation grew once again, with a total of six oral and 99 posters presentations! Over 45 of our Faculty members also participated in the symposium. This year’s LIM Symposium theme was “Innovations in Medicine” and the invited guest speaker was our own Dr. Breanne Everett (MD/MBA). She completed her residency in plastic surgery at University of Calgary and holds both a medical degree and an MBA from the University of Calgary. In her inspiring talk, entitled “Marrying Business and Medicine: Toe-ing a Fine Line”, she described how she dealt with a clinical problem (diabetic foot ulcers), came up with an innovation that optimized patient care, started her own company and delivered her product to market to enhance the health of the community. She clearly illustrated how to complete the full circle, from identifying a clinical problem to developing and providing a solution that both enhances clinical care and patient health as well as reduces health care costs and hospital admissions. The research symposium was an outstanding success and the abstracts are included in companion article in CIM.
