The purpose of this article is to determine the main musical performance features of the vocal repertoire of students-actresses (using the example of selected arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs for a female voice accompanied by a piano) and highlight their role in the selection of vocal works in the field of stage arts. Research methodology. General scientific methods are used in this article: cognitive, analytical, comparative; particular musical-theoretical methods: musicalanalytical method, vocalperforming analysis. Results. Some of the most significant musical and artistic features of the arrangement of Ukrainian folk songs, which serve their widespread use in the repertoire of future specialists of the dramatic scene, in particular, are: the variety of their genre and thematic composition, the lightness of the verbal text, the simple form of musical verse, which together create suitable conditions for solving musical, vocaltechnical and artistic-performing tasks of the work. Widely used in the vocal repertoire of students-actresses (on the example of KhSAC) are the Ukrainian composers’ arrangement of folk songs of a narrow range (from a minor sixth to a perfect octave), where performers are not given complex vocal and technical tasks, however, they require future actresses to master such important factors of singing phonation as singing breathing, various types of sound science (legato, staccato), expressive articulation, as well as a vivid acting embodiment of the vocal and artistic image of the work. Novelty. For the first time, the article considers the specificity of the singing repertoire of future actresses (using the example of selected arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs for a female voice accompanied by a piano) in the musicalperforming plane and identifies the main parameters of introducing this musical material into the vocal repertoire of future stage art specialists. The practical significance. The article contains information that is useful for professional representatives of drama arts sphere, vocal pedagogy and students-actors in the aspect of vocal and performing skills development. Сonclusions. The main musical performance characteristics of the vocal repertoire of future actresses (using the example of selected arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs for female voice accompanied by a piano) are defined as follows: a narrow vocal range of the song, which is important for the vocal performance of actresses, whose singing range is generally not complete (most often reaches up to one and a half octaves); consistency of the musical material with a change in the mode and tone altitude (fretonal pitch), which allows to freely select the desired tonality that is most convenient for the performer; expressive artistic and emotional content of the work, which together play a leading role in the selection of the singing repertoire of future specialists in the dramatic sphere.

The presented research is devoted to the study of the rhythmic organization’s peculiarities in the songs of E. Sabitoglu. Emin Sabitoglu is an outstanding Azerbaijani composer, whose work leaves many generations of domestic listeners not indifferent. The work of Emin Sabitoglu, being famous and popular, often attracts the attention of Azerbaijani musicologists. At the same time, the stylistic features of the composer’s songs have never before become the object of special scientific research. The purpose of the research is to study one of the important elements of the musical language in the songs of the Azerbaijani composer E. Sabitoglu, namely rhythm, to determine the features of their rhythmic organization. The research methodology is determined by the purpose of the research, for the achievement of which, the author uses a comprehensive analysis. At the same time, theoretical analytical analysis has acquired a leading role in the research process. The scientific novelty of the research is that for the first time in musicology determining the features of rhythmic organization in the songs of the Azerbaijani composer Emin Sabitoglu is being solved. Conclusions. A detailed analysis of the rhythmic basis of E. Sabitoglu’s songs demonstrated the presence of certain stylistic features in this area. Firstly, it is a rhythmic ostinato, used in a variety of practically all-vocal miniatures of the composer. Secondly, the rhythmic variation, widespread in the songs of the composer, has many ways of implementation in the development of each specific song. Note that the presence of the principle of rhythmic variation in the songs of the composer is associated with the traditions of national vocal folklore since the variation is one of the leading principles of development in Azerbaijani folk songs. Thirdly, the method of sound visualization takes an essential place in E. Sabitoglu’s songs, the realization of which is directly conditioned by the use of expressive possibilities of rhythm. The use of expressive possibilities of rhythm in this area contributes to the creation of a vivid and almost visibly felt artistic image.

Watermelon (Citrulluslanatus) is an economically important fruit crop worldwide. Gummy stem blight (GSB) is one of the most damaging diseases encountered during watermelon cultivation. In the present study, we identified quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with GSB resistance in an F2 population derived from a cross between maternal-susceptible line ‘920533’ (C. lanatus) and the paternal-resistant line ‘PI 189225’ (C. amarus). The resistance of 178 F2 plants was assessed by two different evaluation methods, including leaf lesion (LL) and stem blight (SB). To analyze the QTLs associated with GSB resistance, a linkage map was constructed covering a total genetic distance of 1070.2 cM. QTL analysis detected three QTLs associated with GSB resistance on chromosome 8 and 6. Among them, two QTLs, qLL8.1 and qSB8.1 on chromosome 8 identified as major QTLs, explaining 10.5 and 10.0% of the phenotypic variations localizing at same area and sharing the same top markers for both LL and SB traits, respectively. A minor QTL, qSB6.1, explains 9.7% of phenotypic variations detected on chromosome 6 only for the SB trait. High-throughput markers were developed and validated for the selection of resistant QTLs using watermelon accessions, and commercial cultivars. Four potential candidate genes were predicted associated with GSB resistance based on the physical location of flanking markers on chromosome 8. These findings will be helpful for the development of watermelon cultivars resistant to GSB.

AbstractExperiments were made to study the proportion, chemical composition, and rumen degradability of the morphological components of barley straw (Corgi variety) and to study the selection of these components by sheep. The proportions in the harvested straw dry matter (DM) as leaf blade, leaf sheath, stem and chaff were 128, 314, 500 and 58 g/kg DM, respectively. The different components of straw on analysis proved to have very different concentrations of nitrogen and neutral-detergent cellulase digestibility. The leaf blades had the highest and the stems the lowest values. The degradabilities of DM in the components and in the whole straw were determined by measuring DM loss from samples incubated in nylon bags for various periods in the rumen of sheep. Responses were measured using the mathematical model p = a+b (1–e−ct) where p is DM loss, (a+b) potential degradability, c the rate constant of DM loss and t is the time of incubation. DM losses decreased in the order leaf blades > leaf sheath > whole plant > chaff > stems. Leaf blades also had the highest potential degradability and rate of degradation. In another trial, five sheep were offered unchopped barley straw ad libitum. There were five treatment periods in which sheep were allowed to leave uneaten proportionately 0·2, 0·3, 0·4, 0·5 and 0·7 of the straw on offer for assessing the animal's selection of the morphological components of that straw. The amount of leaf blade in the material consumed increased in largely a linear (P < 0·01) fashion with the amount of excess allowance. The proportion of stem eaten varied conversely. The selection of leaf sheath was less apparent. Little stem was consumed until the proportion of leaf blade in the food available decreased below proportionately 0·4. The practical significance of the study is discussed.

One way of understanding empathy in music performance is as a process by which singers closely identify with the characters they encounter and portray in opera or art song. As singers embody these characters, they literally give them voice. Musical performance thus humanizes characters as well as performers and audiences as deeper, empathetic engagement may also reflect or elicit new pathways of growth, knowledge, and understanding. What is the process a singer goes through in empathizing with a character? How can young singers learn to empathize with the characters they are tasked with portraying, even when they may find the characters or their behavior to fall outside of their own moral convictions? This paper posits that empathy is a necessary part of the role preparation process for singers and introduces the “role journal” as a way for young singers to track embodiment processes and develop healthy habits of empathy and boundaries in their work.

Politics feels the steady influence of the civilization factor first of all and mainly because for various reasons the way of its existence prevents the careful selection of optimal articulation, argumentation and rhetorical approaches; instead of this, the civilization factor works not so much within the limits of specific and historical priorities, as in a much longer retrospective and perspective. Unlike politics, for civilization modernity is a minor episode, which becomes meaningful only in the context of some historical continuity and prospects for the future. At the expense of the closest possible association links with the civilization factor, politics tries to legitimize and raise its institutional status and ensure a respectable image. It tries to prove that it also works on the principles of historical continuity, and her argumentatively vulnerable memoranda are not without prospects for the future.

Problem statement and its relevance. One of the pioneers of Chinese contemporary piano art, whose creative activity certainly contributed to its formation, further rapid rise and recognition of creative achievements on the world art horizon, is a prominent pianist — Liu Shikun, who today has received complete recognition as a brilliant performer, composer and teacher thus marked the beginning of the socalled piano boom in China, and with it — the gradual formation and confident rise of the Chinese piano school. If various aspects of contemporary Chinese performing arts have repeatedly been subjected to musicological discourse in the scientific community, the direct and comprehensive coverage of Liu Shikun’s leading role in the process of forming the foundations of Chinese piano performing arts, as well as careful analysis and representation of his creative achievements and pedagogical fields are still relevant for basic musicological research. The purpose of this article is to highlight and analyze the main vectors of creative activity of the famous Chinese musician Liu Shikun in the context of the development of piano art in China in the second half of the XX — early XXI centuries. The methodology of the work focuses on the principles of historicism and source studies, which provides coverage of Liu Shikun’s musical work in a single context with cultural, historical and artistic phenomena and their interaction. In addition, methods of retrospective, structuralsystem analysis, interpretation of facts, argumentation and generalization are involved. The results obtained during the achievement of the goal of this work focus on the representation and characterization of Liu Shikun’s creative achievements in the field of concert performance, teaching and composition and the artist’s contribution to the development of Chinese piano culture. The topicality of the article lies in the first attempt in Ukrainian musicology to comprehensively cover the main directions of creative activity of the famous Chinese pianist Liu Shikun in the projection of his influence on the formation of the current state of Chinese piano art. The practical significance of the facts and analysis of the main vectors of Liu Shikun’s creative activity carried out in this work is the possibility of using this material in courses on the history and theory of modern piano art, in particular in sections on the Chinese piano school, as well as for further more thorough research of Liu Shikun’s musical creativity, systematization of scientific information on his contribution to the development of musical art of this country. Conclusions. Summarizing the above given material, it should be noted that the fruitful and multifaceted work of this artist directly influenced the development and professionalization of piano performance in China at that time. This influence was due to the comprehensive recognition of the artist’s creative achievements by the world music community, in particular through numerous concert performances in leading countries (especially in partnership with leading orchestras and outstanding musicians); creation of original samples of concert repertoire on the basis and with specificity of the Chinese traditional melody; organization of a dense network of author’s music schools (art centers) and formation of the foundations of the Chinese national piano pedagogy.
