One of the main areas affected by the pandemic is agriculture. The article emphasizes the need to apply science-intensive technologies and expand innovative activities to ensure sustainable development of agriculture in the current pandemic. The importance of new generation technologies in accelerating the innovative development of the agricultural sector is also studied. Positive results have been obtained on issues that need to be solved when organizing and developing an economy based on an innovation system in the agricultural sector in a pandemic. PurposeThis study, an exploratory one, aims to empirically investigate the association of national intellectual capital (NIC) with the national digital transformation readiness of the European Union's (EU’s) member states. Apart from building the conceptual model of NIC, this study explores the role of NIC dimensions in the digital divide between European countries.Design/methodology/approachBased on the literature review and the available EU statistical data and indexes, the theoretical framework and conceptual model for NIC were developed. The model explores the relation of NIC and its dimensions (human, social, structural, relational and renewable/development capital) on the readiness of European countries for digital transformation and the digital divide. Significant differences between EU countries in NIC and digital readiness were tested. Multiple linear regression was used to explore the association of each NIC dimension with digital transformation and digital divide within the EU.FindingsDespite a positive association between all dimensions of NIC and digital transformation readiness, the proposed model of NIC was not confirmed in full. Regression analysis proved social capital and working skills, a dimension of human capital, to be the predictors of digital transformation at a national level, able to detect certain elements of digital divide between EU member states. Structural capital, knowledge and education, as dimensions of human capital, were predictors of the digital divide in terms of the integration of digital media in companies.Research limitations/implicationsThis research has a limited propensity for generalisation due to the lack of common measurement models in the field of NIC exploration.Practical implicationsThis research offers policy makers an indication of the relationships between NIC and digital transformation, pointing out which dimensions of NIC should be strengthened to allow the EU to meet the challenges of digital economy and to overcome the digital divide between EU member states.Social implicationsThe use of digital technologies is key in creating active and informed citizens in the public sphere and productive companies and economic growth in the business sphere.Originality/valueThis study provides an original theoretical framework and conceptual model through which to analyse the relationship between NIC and digital transformation, which has thus far not been explored at the level of the EU. This research makes an original contribution to the empirical exploration of NIC and produces new insights in the fields of digital transformation and intellectual capital.

Purpose: this article includes the review of the Japanese policy on the digital transformation transformation of the agricultural sector, description and analysis of the implementation cases, as well as identification of obstacles to achieve the expected results.Methods: the study uses the methods of structural, comparative and systems analysis and the principle of formal logic. The article is based on the analysis of scientific and analytical materials devoted to the problem of research. The factual basis is the framework documents of the Cabinet of Japan, media, reports of Japanese research institutes.Results: the article provides a brief review and analysis of the Japanese public of digital transformation of the agricultural sector, provides some cases, summarizes the interim results of the measures taken, identifies problematic factors that prevent the achievement of the expected results. The hypothesis is put forward about the key role of the government in the process of developing new standards for the digital transformation.Conclusions and Relevance: Japan agricultural sector is facing a severe labor shortage. The situation is expected to get worse in the next 5 years. The Japanese government expects that digital technologies and autonomous equipment will compensate for the lack of labor on farms, as well as provide a new stage in the development of the traditional agricultural sector. However, the digitalization of agriculture sector is not limited to the introduction of the latest technology, but also involves the development of new safety rules for the use of robotic tractors, unmanned aerial vehicles, improving farmers ICT education, and standardizing new agricultural terms. However, despite the promise of using digital technologies, the high cost of new equipment and the complexity of its use is a significant obstacle to the digitalization of agriculture in Japan. The study of the features of the digital transformation of the Japanese agricultural sector is very important for the effective implementation of industry projects that exist today in Russia.

Abstract The aim of this research is to examine the concept of entrepreneurship in the context of modern economic realities by presenting features and factors that contribute to economic growth. High unemployment, low economic growth and shrinking investment are key features of the long-term economic crisis at both national and European level.New entrepreneurship, combined with the strengthening of the existing one, is a powerful antidote to the fight against unemployment, as it provides the opportunity, mainly to young people, to innovate and create new products and services contributing to the wider economic and social whole, reducing unemployment while creating the right conditions for a remarkable and outward-looking economy. Taking into account the literature research, it is examined how the development of entrepreneurship actually contributes to the encouragement of economic activity, creating a favorable ground for growth in all sectors of the economy and the creation of new jobs.

The application of knowledge (measured in term of entrepreneurship and innovations, research and development, and software and product design) has become one of the spring boards of economic growth. The paper highlights six hindrances to renaissance explosion in knowledge in Africa with special emphasis on inefficiency in indigenous knowledge systems following colonialism. It further highlighted major challenges such as low capacity to invest in advanced human capital, low scientific and analytical capacity, low level of access to education, low digital capacity, low public interest in knowledge systems and low strategic aspiration facing Africa in developing efficient indigenous knowledge systems. The authors, drawing on existing literature and expert consultations, clearly identified and established major challenges being faced by African countries in leveraging on intellectual advances and suggest ways to transform the knowledge and innovation system in moving the continent towards the knowledge economy.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the role of the agricultural sector in regional development in Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra Province. The data in this study were obtained from the Central Statistics Agency of Simalungun Regency and the Central Statistics Agency of North Sumatra Province from 2015-2019. The results showed that based on the value of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB), it can be seen from the economic growth in the region. When viewed from the PDRB of Simalungun Regency in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors, it has the potential to be developed. The GDP contribution of the fisheries sector was 48.67 percent with a growth rate of 7.32. Based on the results of the LQ analysis, the agricultural sector in Simalungun Regency is a basic or superior sector with a contribution of 3.44 followed by Water Supply, Waste Management, Waste and Recycling of 1.12 and Wholesale and Retail Trade, and Car and Motorcycle Repair 1.09. As for the crop and vegetable horticulture agricultural sector commodity that contributed, namely cabbage with a harvest area of 2,406 hectares (21.50%). Of the food crops, namely lowland rice and oil palm, are plantation commodities with the highest production reaching 555,551 tons (97.76%).

This research aimed to clarify and show the economic impact of Zaka fund development through theoretical, mathematical, and graphical analysis on macroeconomics variables which is related to aggregate demand, Researchers used theoretical, mathematical, graphical approaches for explanation economic variables. and used deductive approach through shows the effect of zakat on the aggregate Demand. The researcher concludes that the duty of Zaka induces economic growth and protects the economy from risk fluctuations whether it is recession or inflation. The researcher recommends to work on promoting the revival of Zaka, and the Zakat should be compulsory not voluntary through laws and regulations, ࢫbecause it raises the level of economic activity through its direct effect to stimulate fund investment, raise consumer’s demand and expand the market.
